  • Just home after a blissful night in the cabin - complete peace and quiet and a welcome break after Christmas and New Year! Everything we needed to cook dinner was provided and a fire outside kept us warm late into the night. Couldn't have asked for more from Alex - very friendly, flexible re timings and lit the stove prior to arrival. Will definitely be back!

  • A great place to be I can only recommend !!!! Alexander was kind and introduced us to everything . The cabin was absolutely beautiful :)))

    Franziska2015-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Well it was an interesting place to stay that's for sure ! The cabin was as quirky as we thought it might be when we booked. Lovely location as well. We had fun with the cooking equipment and there was certainly enough provided for our stay. Obviously with there not being a toilet block on site you might not want to stay longer than 1-2 nights, depending on how long you can go without a wash !! But for an overnight it was perfect and good fun.

  • Lovely weekend in cosy log cabin! Thank you! We'll be back!

    Caroline2016-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time! Alexander greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the cabin, fire was lit when we arrived and the cabin was warm and amazing. He even helped us move out car as it was stuck in the mud! Would definitely visit again.

  • Lovely cabin in a nice secluded location. Particularly great with the log fire roaring.

    Hannah2017-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome weekend, idyllic surroundings and very secluded. It was our first time glamping and we loved every minute of it, as did the dogs! The cabin was well thought out and very cosy. We will definitely be back in the summer for a bbq!

    Anni2017-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Pat and Les are friendly and generous hosts. We felt we were staying in luxury in their home and Brampton is a lovely little village

    Natasha2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Pat and Les are probably the best hosts you will find in the UK. They are kind, nice, friendly, helpful, organized and flexible. Their house is clean and new and is very comfortable. There is a nice little English town a short walk away where you can have a pint and fish and chips and then change money across the street at the back of the post office. Highly recommend.

  • I had booked this last minute and was not staying one night but it turned out to be an extremely wonderful experience! Pat and Les were extremely accommodating since I had plans to see the sights and barely had time to check in, they made it very easy and quick. I felt extremely comfortable even though my stay was short!

  • Had a wonderful stay in quiet location while being easy walk into town for evening meal. Room and facilities of generous size. Would not hesitate to use again.

  • Heathers granny flat was a beautiful little place. Very clean. Very quiet and bigger then expected. We had a great night sleep. The self check in and notes she and husband kenny left us were not only helpful but meant we didn't need to intrude on them.

    Beck2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at the granny flat was wonderful. The room is peaceful and very private, I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to explore Hadrian's Wall and the border region. I only had a day spare to explore the surrounding area, but there is much more to see and do than I expected.

  • Gardens beautiful, location first class, accommodation outstanding and excellent value for the money.

    Angela2017-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • In a nice area. Gardens and foliage lovely. Property modern. Shower room and annexe was immaculate. Bed was very large! Had everything we needed. Could not fault it. Would definitely recommend.

  • Heather bietet ein traumhaftes Quartier mit einem großen Bett. Die Lage ist sehr ruhig und alles was man braucht ist zu Fuß zu erreichen.

    Gunnar2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to stay, far better than a hotel room. Highly recommended. Upscale accommodation, separate entry from the main house, friendly helpful hosts, comfortable bed and bedroom, superior shower, and walking distance to small downtown. We stayed only one night on a visit to Hadrian's Wall but wished we had spent three nights there instead. Hosts and rooms such as this are what make staying in an airbnb hosted room so much nicer that a traditional room in a motel.

The cottage was very well equipped, spotlessly clean and well located for the quiet town centre, county walls and was in easy reach of Hadrian’s Wall. Our hosts were extremely helpful and considerate and we were made to feel very welcome.

  • Diccon was fantastically helpful as we, with our bikes, and soaked, got lost between Walton & the farm. He came to find us and offered to take us & bikes in his pick-up. The real fire was divine & warmed us through. We loved the rural charm & cosyness!

  • Stayed in the bunkhouse for 1 night, 4 adults and 5 kids. Very warm welcome from Diccon on arrival. The bunkhouse was very comfortable and well equipped, with everything that we needed. Open fire was lovely and free Wifi kept the kids quiet! We all had a great time, would highly recommend. Kids enjoyed playing with the family dogs, especially the very cute puppy! Thanks for having us!

    Angie2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • My son - Ruaridh - was cycling between Yorkshire and Edinburgh and needed somewhere to break the journey. Diccon was brilliant in accommodating Ruaridh's needs (despite it being hogmanay!) and the accommodation was perfect for Ruaridh. We now plan to make this trip ourselves (but in the summer!) and will certainly stay here :-)

  • If you're considering staying here, book now!! We were walking Hadrian's Wall Path and Sandysike was the best place we stayed at all week!! We stayed in the bunkhouse and after a long and soggy day walking we were greeted with the friendliest welcome, an open fire, a home-cooked meal, beer and a cosy bed! Just what we needed. The farm is right on the path, so no extra miles required to get there! The family that run the farm are just amazing and we will definitely be back to stay and explore the local area when we haven't got 84 miles to walk :-)

It is very new and is perfect for those looking to walk, eat out and use as a base to travel to nearby attractions and places. The accommodation comes complete for self catering and is as cosy as a place away from home could be.

    Andy2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for two nights with two friends. The place is absolutely fantastic! New, quality workmanship, quality furniture and fittings and in a very quiet beautiful position. Emma and her husband took us as a late booking after we had a problem with other accommodation that we had booked. They accepted us right away even though it was 8pm at night and even did a clean of the accommodation themselves after quests had checked out late that afternoon. We sat in the living area of the cottage while Emma and her husband finished cleaning. Nothing was too much for them and they made us feel very welcome. We were actually happy we had had issues with the accommodation we had originally booked as this place The Old Laundry at Four Gables was marvellous. Heated flooring downstairs, beautiful kitchen, in fact the whole place was just beautiful. A real credit to Emma and Justin! A tv in both rooms and one in the living room. I would have liked to have stayed longer but had already booked accommodation at our next destination. I would and will definitely book here again sometime in the near future. I highly recommend The Old Laundry at Four Gables and if I could, I would score them 11 out of 10.

Close to Brampton but set in the beautiful village of Lanercost with its Priory and border region and turbulent history.
  • Wish we could have stayed more than one night! The room was large and done to an exceptional standard as the was the dinner and general service. The lovely the additional ‘snug’ to watch movies in and play some games. Deborah and her daughter were extremely welcoming and gave excellent local tips for our day exploring Hadrian’s wall before we even arrived. Great, private location only minutes drive from sights. Thanks so much!

This beautiful barn conversion sits on top of Hadrian's Wall and is a great base for exploring the Lake district and Hadrian's Wall country. Nestled on a working farm surrounded by trees & fields. It even comes with its very own hot tub!
The barn is situated on the edge of the village of Walton just a few miles from Brampton. It has a self contained large garden and its own hot tub! It is on the opposite side of the farm yard to our house, so you are private and secluded but we are close enough if you need us! Within the barn you will find a well equipped kitchen with dishwasher & washing machine. The spacious living room has a TV and stereo and double doors which lead you through to the sun room, where you can relax and unwind with beautiful views of the North Pennines. On the second floor you will find the bathroom and bedrooms. The master bedroom can be provided with 2 single beds or a whopping super king! Just let us know your requirements & we will have it ready for you! The second bedroom is a single room. We can provide a travel cot and high chair upon request. Please be aware that no bedding is provided with the travel cot. You will have your own private parking within the Barn's grounds. There is ample space for bicycles too! In the surroundings you might be lucky enough to spot a squirrel or two hoping through the trees in the wood at the bottom of the garden. Or find a cheeky pheasant strolling across the lawn. Walton is just a 5 minute stroll along the Hadrian's Wall path where you will find a great little playground & tea room. Brampton is approx 3 miles away, there you will find local amenities, including tourist information & an abundance of quirky little shops.
  • What can i add that's not already been said, this place really is as good as people say it is,we stayed for a long weekend and are looking forward to going back very soon.

  • A great stay in this wonderful property. We came to walk and walk we did! The barn is in a perfect location for exploring Hadrian's wall and our hosts were extremely helpful and thoughtful; gave us lots of information about the area, and the house came supplied with a collection of helpful maps and tourist information leaflets. The location is picturesque and the property modern, clean, fully equipped and very homely. Great extras including TV and stereo (for unwinding at the end of the day), lovely kitchen, and of course: the hot tub, which provides a relaxing vantage point over the fields. I would recommend this place to absolutely anybody, and thank our hosts again for a wonderful stay.

  • We had an absolutely wonderful stay in Sandysike. The accommodation itself was clean, cosy and well equipped with the added excitement of the luxurious hot tub in which we could relax under the stars. Sharon and Diccon were incredibly welcoming and gave us invaluable information about things to do in the surrounding area with recommendations for eating out and where to find local shops should we need anything. Overall an incredibly satisfying stay and we would love to go back! Thank you, Phoebe and Andy xxx

  • Lovely farm setting and Sharon/Diccan were fabulous hosts. So relaxing and peaceful! Great for exploring Hadrian’s Wall and Lake District. We highly recommend.

  • The accommodation was fantastic, the photos really don't do it justice, it was better than I anticipated. Myself and my 9yr old daughter and 13 yr old son had booked originally for 3 nights then added on an extra night at the end (thank you sharon). We travelled into Carlisle, Keswick and Gretna and all were easily accessible. We also found the waterfall which was a 10minute walk away. We were made to feel really welcome, even though it was peak lambing season, and even got a guided tour of the lambing shed and almost saw one being born! The hot tub was the cherry on top and we went in it every day regardless of the weather, which the kids thought was ace! We have had a brilliant break and I would definitely recommend sandysike barn, I would love to stay there again.

  • Very cozy and secluded retreat with nice hiking trails to explore nearby. The place was spotless and we couldn't think of anything to complain. On top of that an extremely friendly and helpful host. Can only recommend!

  • We stayed at Sandysike barn for a short weekend with my husband and two young kids. We had a planned to have a nice relaxing time in the countryside and this was exactly what we had wanted! The barn is lovely and clean and comes with everything you would need for a short getaway. The nature trails are close by if you need a pleasant walk and if you venture 10-15 mins out, Hadrians wall is close by. There is a nice play area in the town of Walton which is a short 5 minute walk away for those of you taking young kids. The hot tub was perfect- well placed, secluded, private and overlooks the beautiful landscape beyond. Would definitely recommend this place to all!

The house is so well equipped - everything you need in the kitchen, great bathroom, comfortable beds and garden to sit out in. We loved staying here and would highly recommend it to anyone.

    Kim2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage with everything you need. Excellent communication from Andrew. A great base for exploring Cumbria and for enjoying a cosy night in. Almost a pity it wasn't nippy, the fire looked inviting

    Susan2017-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • meadow view is a fantastic cottage which as previously rated is spotless !!! We stayed with two children and this place had everything we required. Andrew greeted us with a quick helpful tour and offered advice such as local places to eat / visit including a park and a local pub a two minute walk away. Anyone with children - use this park it's clean / tidy and new. Couldn't get our kids off it. The location is close to m6 so handy for Gretna / Dumfries areas for a day out. Cottage is very unique with a great ground floor shower - only negatives (honestly) - having to leave. If you're considering another cottage over this - don't ! Book this one -you won't regret it. Thanks Andrew - thanks again and hopefully use you again soon. Steve/Debs & family

  • This stunning cottage is in a beautiful rural location with everything you need for time away from the hustle and bustle of life. A gorgeous home with beautiful antique furnishings. The bed was extremely comfortable and it has an awesome waterfall shower. The owner met us on check in and even left some milk so we could have a cuppa after a long 6 hour journey. We will definitely be back. Thank you Andrew for letting us stay in your lovely home.

  • Andrew's Place is a lovely house in a beautiful village. Andrew is a fantastic host and makes sure you have everything you need for a comfortable stay. We wanted to have a historical holiday - walking around ruins and along Hadrian's Wall - Meadow View is ideally placed for this and we were never more than a 40 minute drive away from a great day out. There are also some really good places to eat nearby. Thank you Andrew, for an amazing place to stay!

    Rachel2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew was easy to communicate with and responded quickly to all messages. He was flexible on arrival time, and was there to meet us and show us round the cottage. The cottage was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and comprehensively equipped. It is beautifully decorated and furnished, in a quiet village location, but close to Brampton, Carlisle and the M6. Highly recommended. We would stay there again. p.s. the ground-floor shower room is fantastic!

  • Recommend this property and Host. 1...Prompt contact from Host Andrew, start to finish. e.g when he was at work Andrew left a 2nd contact number. We arrived 2 hours early but he was there to meet & greet us. Detailed info on viewing. & Local info. Milk in fridge. 2...the cottage is very clean, roomy but cozy. Two good size bedrooms. Comfortable bed. Storage. Armchair by window overlooking quiet village & countryside. Upstairs bathroom with overhead shower which can be slow getting hot water. Downstairs state of the art shower room. Good central heating throughout plus open-fire in lounge. Lovely in the cold evenings. Kitchen is well equipped, more than expected, slightly small but we got 5 adults around the extended table. Parking outside. TV, wifi good signal. 3....excellent location. Quite. Beautiful views. Friendly locals in pub. Serves good food, check times. 5 mins drive to Warwick Bridge & Brampton. Bigger villages with cafes & some shops. We enjoyed our visit and looking forward to returning. Many thanks Ann & Andy

This cosy cottage provides accommodation with a ground floor bedroom and bathroom making it an ideal choice for an extended family holiday with grandparents or those who have difficulty with stairs. The lawned garden extends down to the river where picnics can be enjoyed on sunny days or snuggle up in front of the cosy wood burning stove in the winter. Historic Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall are within a short drive.
The market town of Brampton, 1.5 miles to the east, has a number of shops, bars and restaurants and Carlisle, the historic border city, has entertainment for the whole family from cinema to bowling alley along with shopping centre, night clubs and restaurants. With a garden overlooking the river and walking from the door through Gelt Wood, this former inn in the hamlet of Low Gelt, has been converted to provide a home away from home for a group of friends or a family, looking for a base from which to enjoy an away from it all holiday. The cottage has a ground floor bedroom and en-suite shower room, ideal for families with elderly relatives or people who struggle with stairs. The cosy wood burning stove compliments the modern furnishings, making the cottage warm and snugly on chilly evenings, whilst warm sunny evenings can be spent relaxing or dining al fresco or picnicing by the river.
Brampton is conveniently located within a few minutes drive of the motorway and just off the A69 for those travelling from the east. Ideally based for those with an interest in history, Hadrian's Wall and its various forts along the route and Lanercost Priory (now with a modern tea room) are within a short drive
  • A lovely, cosy cottage in a very handy location - our group had travellers arriving by train in Carlisle with a quick taxi transfer and by car from London. The cottage is very well appointed with everything you could need for a family trip - well equipped kitchen, games, music, wood for the fire - even a towel and a blanket for the dog! We didn't want to leave...

A cosy modern Shepherds Hut in the Cumbrian countryside, with double bed, underbed storage, hairdryer, kitchen with small oven (+ 2 hotplates) kettle, fridge, and a bathroom with loo, basin and shower. Fully serviced with mains water and electricity. Heated by a " fat bellied wood burning stove" and electric heater for those cooler nights! Small TV with DVD. Food baskets available on request - tea, coffee and milk is provided as a standard. Outside is a seating area with BBQ and patio.
Our Shepherd's Hut is sited in a secluded sheltered place overlooking the river Irthing, so it is very private and quiet, with only the sound of the river and the birds. However you are only 1/2 a mile from Hadrian's Wall which was built by the Romans to keep out the Northern Tribes, and has many interesting places to visit locally.
This is a very quiet area but near to Brampton/ Carlisle/Gretna Green/Lakes/and the Borders not far off the M6 so very accessable. The scenery around here is beautiful ,ideal for walking all year round and unbelievably we get very little snow.
  • Cosy, peaceful & serene location. Welcoming hosts. Perfect base to explore Hadrian's Wall from.

  • Another excellent stay at the hut and still in awe of the place. So cosy and comfortable. Fiona is such a welcoming host, always on hand to help and offer tips of where to go and what to see. Highly recommended place to stay and brilliant if you have a dog as there is plenty of outside space to run and play.

    Louise2017-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from a wonderful stay in Fiona's Shepherds Hut. The Hut is so lovely and cosy with a very comfortable bed, soft clean bedding and fluffy towels. Fiona has thought of everything and, even though we'd taken a ready meal, we could have cooked a meal from scratch as the tiny kitchen is so well equipped. The location is amazing, in rolling Cumbrian countryside with the feeling of being "away from it all" yet only a mile from the A69. We can't wait to go back and would recommend everyone to visit, you won't regret it!

  • Me and my boyfriend came here for the weekend, after struggling to find somewhere to stay Fiona's place popped up and I can honestly say I'm so happy it did, we couldn't have imagined a nicer place to stay, it had a beautiful view around the very cosy hut! It really was beautiful and it made our stay even nicer. Fiona and her husband are lovely people, greeting us on arrival and making us feel at home. I would definitely recommend Fiona's place. X

  • A lovely little cabin on the edge of some woods overlooking a stream. I recommend it for a relaxing short break. Great hosts.

    Liam2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We booked a very last minute stay in the shepherd’s hut. It is tucked away nicely and is private enough. The hut was very cosy - especially with the wood burner and heater. Although the local area is quiet, Fiona and her husband recommended us some places to eat. We look forward to booking a longer stay in the future where we can do some walking - the area is beautiful.

Newly refurbished luxury bedroom with ensuite bathroom, in our home in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside. It is a Bastle House (fortified farmhouse where animals were kept downstairs to keep the family upstairs warm and safe) which we can trace back to at least 1672. Our walls are 4 feet thick so in the summer it is cool but in the winter it is really cosy! The next door double bedroom is also available if you are a party but they must share the ensuite.
We are well located for walkers doing the Hadrian's Wall route (600 meters downhill from us) guests at weddings at Lanercost Priory or just visitors to this beautiful area of Carlisle ,the Borders and the North Lakes -- lots of history and impressive scenery to enjoy.
This is a very peaceful place with beautiful scenery. You can really "get away from it all" and yet never be far away from "life" if you want it ! In Brampton and its surrounding area you have several Pubs, antique centres and in Carlisle is great shopping, cinema , castle and cathedral,10 pin bowling and lots of history to investigate. Walking in the area is very popular and we have an ordinance survey map to plot local walks. Hadrians Wall and all the history of the Roman occupation is well represented with museums, excavations and sites of camps are within 1 mile. Well worth a visit even if you are not a historian! The North lakes are 1 hour away and the majestic coastline of Dumfries and Galloway are always a super day out.

  • Fantastic house. Perfect for a large group. My friends and I do something similar every year where we hire out a house or cottage for a long weekend away together. This house has been one of the best places we have stayed. It is very spacious and clean. Everything still has that fresh, new feeling. The dining and sitting areas also cater to the number of beds. We've often found in the past that places with bedrooms for ten have not had enough seats around the dining table or in the living room which wasn't a problem here. The only thing missing was a mirror in the littlest bedroom! A great find and the host was a lovely lady. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

The Plough is a characterful three bedroom house situated in the small Cumbrian Hamlet of Banks. It is situated half a mile down the road from where the noted English Artist Winifred Nicholson lived, just a few miles from the pretty market town of Brampton, and a stones throw from Hadrian's Wall. The impressive Roman Fort of Housesteads is about 4 miles away and Vindolanda is about 13 miles from the house, Well worth a visit if you are interested Roman History.
Chris and Katie's cottage is a stylish space. Built in the early 19th century, the house has been in the family for a number of years. The interior decoration reflects the couples design flare, a mix retro and contemporary furniture together with original artworks, making a beautiful home with all the comforts of modern life . Originally The Plough was a Public House, then a Post Office, until its’ extensive renovation in 2001 by Katie's father. This saw the addition of a light, airy extension to the kitchen, extra bath and shower rooms, and a garage. Among other delights, there is a beautiful large comfy living room with lovely views of surrounding countryside and beyond, also there is a lovely large open plan kitchen dining area, again with beautiful views. The furnishings and fixtures have been chosen to reflect past and present, with creative touches in the décor, such as the bespoke curtains and cushions made by Katie. There is central heating throughout, and the sitting room also has a cosy clear view wood burner. Around the property is an are of enclosed garden space, much visited by local wild birds, and providing splendid views of the countryside.
The house is on the Hadrian’s Wall path coast to coast route. There are many beautiful rural walks around the area, including a stunning river walk in Coombe Craigs wood. Nearby Brampton is a pretty small market town, offering a good choice of shops and pubs, a Post Office, Tourist Information Centre, and two banks. There is a very good farmers market selling local produce on the last Saturday in the month. A nice place to have a meal out is the Samson Inn in Gilsland and also the Golden Fleece at Ruleholme. Lanercost Priory and tea rooms are just down the hill, combining the partly ruined Priory, founded in 1166 by Henry the Second, and the recently built restaurant and gift shop. Talking Tarn, near the charming village of Talkin, is well worth a visit, being an area of natural beauty, with walks around the glacial tarn, wildlife, and café. Housesteads and Vidolanda Roman Forts are 14 miles away.
  • We had a lovely and very enjoyable stay in Katie and Chris's house in Banks, Cumbria. We managed some delightful walks in and around the area with some splendid views of the surrounding countryside, and this is also the perfect location to see and discover more about Hadrian's wall and the history of the Roman Empire. We particularly enjoyed the forts at Housesteads and the fort and museum at Vindolanda. Everyone loved the house, eldest daughter's comment was.."If you ever buy a house in the country, can you get one like this?" So there you go...! It was spacious and comfortable and easily accommodated us and and our 3 children aged 14, 13 and 10. Everyone felt like they had their own space; and we enjoyed playing games in the lounge in front of the wood burning stove in the evenings. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a base to visit this part of the world. Kerry and family.

  • What a gorgeous place to stay- clean, lovely location, welcoming (the homemade bread, jugs of flowers and wine on arrival were a lovely touch). The area is great for walking, but there are also lots of things to see and do with the kids. Would love to return.

  • This is such a beautifully cared for home from home and an amazing place to stay. The photos are amazing but still don’t do the place justice! Much bigger in real life too! Everything you need has been thought of and provided. Highly recommended and will definitely stay again.

  • We loved our stay in Katie and Chris’s cottage. The cottage had ample room for us and our three children and the kitchen was great. It was really lovely to come back from our walks and have somewhere warm where we could wash and dry our clothes and make dinner. The cottage is beautifully decorated and was lovely and clean and is within walking distance of a fantastic section of Hadrian’s Wall. Thank you Katie and Chris we highly recommend The Plough.

  • We stayed at this lovely cottage with another couple as we walked the western half of Hadrian's Wall Path. We had a wonderful time and the cottage fitted the bill perfectly. Katie and Chris have fitted out the cottage beautifully, and equipped the cottage with everything we needed, and more. There are beautiful views in all directions, including stunning sunsets to the west. Katie responds to all communication speedily and was always helpful. Highly recommended.

  • We wanted to find a special house to rent in this beautiful area. We had a great stay in this well provided for accommodation. But what we loved were the details, carefully chosen homewares, lovely prints and decorations throughout this spacious house! After a long walk from the doorstep, the wood burning stove was a treat! A charming house, stunning area, we'll be back, many thanks!

    Kate2017-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best Airbnb's we've stayed in. Gorgeous, stylish and homely. The perfect rural retreat with great walks from the doorstep. We didn't want to leave! It didn't feel like holiday accommodation. It felt like our home. Would definitely recommend and we'll definitely stay again :)

    Lou2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home in a fantastic countryside location (the view of the magnificent sunset on our second night was breathtaking). Brilliant communication with Katie and very kind gifts of wine and homemade bread made us feel even more welcome. Gorgeous character and decor, just wish we could've stayed longer!

  • Simply lovely cottage. A perfect place to rest my weary head after a long drive en route to Scotland. And so lovely to arrive and find that Sue had lit the fire in the woodburner making the cottage so welcoming and cosy! Would love to stay again.

  • Great stay, a lot bigger than I expected. We stayed here to break up our journey to Edinburgh and it was perfect as it was right off the motorway. The only thing to note is do not follow the post code on the listing, it takes you the wrong way

  • Lovely quiet place. Perfect location to get to carlisle city centre. Only thing is only discovered there was no oven when we arrived, luckily there is a combo microwave.

Stonebridge Lees is an Edwardian farm house with the addition of a modern conversion of the old cow byre. The old cow byre houses our lovely modern kitchen, the heart of this family home, as well as our office, utility room and guest accommodation. In your guest accommodation you will find a comfortable king sized bed, a smart tv and an ensuite wet room with lavatory, basin and shower. In addition there is a cot-bed suitable for a child up to 3 years old, a single pop-up bed is also available.
The guest area is full of light and air, with high ceilings and modern furniture and fittings. The environment outside is typically peaceful with lovely views and plenty of wildlife at Stonebridge Lees. However the City of Carlisle is close by (about 15 minutes by car.) Also there are several pubs in nearby villages that also serve good food.
Our location is very rural and quiet. We are close to the local village of Faugh (a 15 minute stroll) where you will find the String of Horses Pub serving great food. Three other pubs are also within a few miles of us. There is good walking to be had in the locality.
  • Paul and Rachel are wonderful hosts, and have extremely comfortable spacious modern guest accommodation adjacent to the family kitchen in their modernised character long house, with kitchen and guest accommodation at one end, and family living at the other. Their house is secure and undisturbed, rural yet within east reach of the M6 / Carlisle, and with spectacular local views. Accommodation would also suit those wishing for privacy, or for an extended semi-independent stay, because the guest room is enormous, has comfy chairs, a desk and internet, and a modern and well-appointed bathroom. Their two dogs are sociable and polite. This was a delightful experience. Thank you both, and best wishes.

    Mark2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Paul is a very good host. Met us on time and guided us to a good place to eat for dinner.. And nice places to walk.

    Philip2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed the quiet, peace and tranquility of Paul's bnb. Set in the middle of rolling farmland meadows at the end of a very narrow lane, you can be assured of no traffic noise. The bedroom was very spacious and comfortable with our own modern ensuite and big TV. Breakfast was provided every morning in the kitchen/dining room. Paul was a very friendly and chatty host. We wish him all the best with his bnb venture.

    Frank2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my boyfriend spent one night at Paul's place and it was an amazing experience. The room was beautiful, clean and we got to met 2 wonderful people and 2 cute dogs. The area is quite and perfect if you want to feel closer to nature. They greeted us with coffee, breakfast and a lovely chat in the morning. If given the opportunity we would go back anytime!

    Cristina2017-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • The room with en suite facilities is truly excellent. At the bottom of the track, the location is so peaceful, but there is a really decent 17th Century Pub a short walk away. Paul and his family are really welcoming. The breakfast menu was even adjusted to accommodate my need for Porridge!!!! A really good find and worth every penny!

    Dave2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Just had a lovely stay with Paul and Rachel and family. If you would like very welcoming hosts, a superb location in the countryside with access to a selection of pubs, and high level of cleanliness and comfort, this is for you!

  • Paul and his family were perfect hosts. The communication in the lead up was great. We were welcomed into their beautiful home warmly, and felt completely at ease in their company. The room is beautiful and perfect for our needs. The included breakfast in the morning was an nice little bonus! Would definitely recommend and hope to return soon!

This is the ideal stopping off point for journeys north and south, but it is also a fabulous location for guests to spend some time discovering a really beautiful part of the UK. Just seven miles from Carlisle and four from Hadrian’s Wall, it is well positioned for exploring the Lake District and the Northumberland National Parks. The area offers something for all interests, with castles, Roman forts, museums and lots more.
  • We stayed at Heads Nook Hall because we wanted to visit the main sites of Hadrian's Wall and some Border Castles. It was a perfect location. Malcolm was a gracious host and gave excellent advice about the local area. We followed his advice about a trip to Vindolanda and went to two restaurants in the evening which were ideal. The whole venue has B&B rooms as well as the self-catering options so would be as good for a large party as a small group. Spacious grounds and rural location.

  • The cottage is absolutely amazing! There is nothing you will want for. If you’re looking to recharge your batteries and explore the English countryside, this is the place for you! 5+ star rating! Set in the most beautiful and serene surroundings, Headsnook is a tiny village with the loveliest people. Everyone is helpful and thoughtful. The Pheasant Inn in nearby Cumwhitten is outstanding for dinner! We visited often and it is walking distance. Fantastic hosts and incredibly friendly staff! Best holiday ever!

Hadrian's View is a converted barn on the Hadrian's Wall national trail path offering high quality self-contained accommodation for up to 6 guests. The house has two bathrooms ,wifi, garden with BBQ and outdoor furniture plus a real log fire inside.
    WIFI available
  • The view from the house is stunning. The accommodation is clean, well-equipped and comfortable . The little extra touches, from the chilled bottle of wine and scones, to the cosy open fire, made our stay one of the most enjoyable any of us have had. The location is great for exploring Hadrian's Wall and is near to Lanercost Priory and Brampton, where the church has the most beautiful stained glass windows. We will be recommending this house to all our friends because we know they'll enjoy it as much as we have.

  • A superb place. Wonderful views and very comfortable and warm. A wonderful host and a fantastic place to explore the country from.

  • Catherine's cottage is amazing! It is spacious, comfortable, well equipped, and has stunning views. Our kids loved playing in the field and seeing the new lambs in the field next door. Beds were comfortable. Nice to have a DVD player and some dvds available to watch. There are toys and games in the closet and a nice selection of books to read (both adult and kids). She provides plenty of brochures of what is available in the area. It is 1 hour drive from Newcastle Airport, 10 minutes from Brampton (groceries), 5 minutes from Lanercost (Priory, Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner, Gift Shop, small museum about Hadrian's wall). 20 minutes from Carlisle (more shopping options and activities). Catherine is a great host. If we make it back to Northern England, we will certainly stay here again!

  • Just finished a 4 night stay in this property and what a place it is!! The pictures really don't do the place justice! Elizabeth was there to welcome me when I arrived and had even prepared some fresh scones and left a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge. The house itself is lovely and has everything you need including a log fire which is amazing. If I end up back in the area anytime soon then this will be the first place that I try and book. Honestly couldn't recommend this place enough

  • Just returned from a 4 night stay at Hadrians View cottage, the photographs do not do the property justice. It's is picture perfect! Elizabeth is a fantastic host, was there to greet us on arrival and made us feel so welcome. Little touches made it even more homely, the baked scones left for us, milk to make a hot drink before unpacking the car and a bottle of wine chilled in the fridge. The cottage is very well equipped and nothing is left out. The views and surroundings are beautiful, even in this bleak weather. My family have loved relaxing and making the most of such a lovely home. Thank you to Elizabeth and her family. We loved it so much we have booked another stay before we left. See you in October Hadrians View. Love The Wilsons x

  • Wonderful, secluded cottage in the heart of the countryside. Close to Brampton village which has a Co-op and two Spar shops, pub, butchers, train station etc. Only a 30 mins drive to Gretna or Carlisle. The property itself is immaculate! We were greeted by Elizabeth who lives next door and shown how to operate the heating. She has also made us some lovely scones and left a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge. We are hoping to return and for a slightly longer amount of time so we can fully appreciate the cottage and the surrounding area!

  • A lovely cabin in a peaceful spot. The cabin was basic as the listing says, but lovely and warm - thanks to the heater - and cosy. A kettle, toaster and fridge are all added bonuses and a washing up bowl and liquid were most welcome. A couple of chairs were unexpected but a definite plus. The camp beds are really comfy, too. The setting is lovely and no light pollution means the skies are perfectly clear at night - great for photos! Ruth and her mum were friendly and helpful and around when needed, but left us to our break uninterrupted. The horses and deer in the field were a real treat and my dog had a whale of a time playing with Louis, one of the host's dogs, each morning. This is camping but without the tent and we had a really lovely few days, using the cabin as a base while we explored the nearby fells. I'll definitely be back.

    Jen2016-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth was very helpful. We were provided with all the info we needed to get there and get set up. The cabin is beautiful and in a lovely setting. The deer, horses and pheasants in the field were great to watch from the front door. Very spacious, comfy camp beds, good amenities in the cabin (porta potti, kettle, fridge, heater) and running water just across the yard. In the 2 nights we stayed, we had all 4 seasons of weather and the cabin comfortably coped with the lot. We took our telescope and got some stargazing done on the first night and woke up to sideways rain in the morning. The cabin is in a great location; in a single day we visited Talkin Tarn, Penrith and Carlisle. Would highly recommend for a couple nights.

    Samuel2015-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is in a stunning and secluded area and in the short time we were there we saw deer, rabbits and frogs! Although it is secluded it is still near enough for creature comforts like the shop for groceries and is easy to find. The cabin is comfortable with two beds which can be pulled together if needed, it even has a few essentials such as washing up bowl and portable camping stove and a fridge. Ruth was really quick with communication prior to our visit, thank you!

    Sarah2015-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolute gem off the beaten track. Ruth and her family couldn't have been more helpful and the location is stunning. We had all our own camping gear which was helpful but the cabin had some comforts like a kettle and toaster. Some fantastic pubs in walking distance. We love loved the Duke of Cumberland especially, even along the road it's a lovely walk back at night - head torches a must! Highlight for my son was being greeted by a pony at the front door every morning!

    Kingsley2017-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Si vous avez l’âme d'un trappeur, la cabane de Ruth est à conseiller. Le confort est rudimentaire mais le cadre est charmant. Nous avons passé un moment calme et agréable.

  • Me and my partner stayed in the cabin for two nights and it was such a lovely getaway! It was just what we needed! I would recommend this beautiful cabin to anyone that wants a peaceful relaxing time away. We didn't get to meet Ruth unfortunately but, her directions were spot on! Thank you very much Ruth for letting us stay! Also the cat was very cute!

    Georgia2016-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy little cabin perfectly situated in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside. Although we didn't get a chance to meet Ruth she accommodated us very well.

    Tom2017-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome time in the log cabin. I was pleased there was a light and Ruth's mum was very helpful. There's a lovely pub just down the road and looking out the door to see 3 deer was amazing. I will definitely return.
