  • We had wonderful stay at Muckleford Cottage. It was our first experience of booking a property through airbnb and it couldn't have been better. The cottage was well-appointed and thoughtfully laid out with everything we needed to just relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Both of our hosts were attentive and gave great advice on the local area, so we had a great holiday! Thanks so much (and we're looking forward to coming back next year).

  • Muckleford forest cottage is situated in a great location, near the quilt shops of Maldon & Castlemaine. Adam made us most welcome & the cottage itself was cosy & comfortable - loved the pot bellied stove. Very peaceful and a great place to unwind! Highly recommend.

  • An awesome place to stay! The family were very chill and helpful; the place was clean, secure and warm thanks to the pot belly; the backyard was amazing, Lulu the dog and the baby goats were super friendly, the bread/cereal/yoghurt were awesome.. couldn't have asked for more.

  • The cottage at Fayen’s place is delightfully cozy and ideal for a peaceful and quiet getaway. The garden and surrounding bush land is alive with birdsong by day and the dam is a symphony of frog-song into the evening. Walks are interesting with a grid work of tracks through iron bark forest blazed by gold rush fevered diggers of the later 19th century, their abandoned trial digs pocking the landscape. Neighbouring Castlemaine and Maldon provide good meal options. Local wineries abound as do craft beers and acoustic music in the pubs. We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights and would gladly recommend Fayen’s place for a laid back break.

  • We had a very relaxing time staying at Adam and Fayen's beautiful bush retreat. Thanks again for the delicious fresh hamper you provided us with and great local recommendations for eating and drinking. We will be back!

  • This place is really beautiful!! Such a great hideaway to discover, we'll definitely be re-visiting one day. We were welcomed to a warm cosy fire on friday night and a delightful selection of goodies in the fridge :) The cottage is very cute and the landscape is so picturesque. Thankyou for such a wonderful weekend!

  • Fayen and Adam's cottage at Muckleford is the perfect country escape. We spent most of our time in front of the fire but it provides a great base from which to explore surrounding areas, Bress winery was a highlight as were the Wesley Hill markets on Saturday, both recommended by Adam. The cottage itself has everything you need and more (nice breakfast provisions, toiletries etc) and is incredibly cosy, although set close to the main house it is very secluded and has wonderful views of the dam and forest. Adam and Fayen were incredibly welcoming and offered assistance for everything, from fire lighting to directions. Fantastic hosts and a beautiful property, highly recommended.

  • The house is cozy - warmed by a pot belly stove. Kitchen and book shelf are well stocked. Lots to do in the area and on the property. Adam and Fayen are great hosts. This is a great retreat: highly recommended.

Our cosy one bedroom bungalow with separate, private bathroom/laundry is located right in middle of the CBD (600m) and beautiful botanical gardens (500m). Set opposite the railway line, we are only 500m from the station. Walking distance from supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and pubs.
The room is a small, cosy space. We can organise a port-o-cot or mattress on the floor for 1 child at no extra cost if organised with us prior to stay. Basic motel style facilities are in the room (fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave). There is a BBQ (with side gas burner) available for cooking, and equipment and extra cooking/eating utensils can be arranged on request. NOTE: The bathroom is private and attached however there is no internal door (see photos). Early check in/out can be arranged depending on other bookings.
We love our location and our close proximity to everything Castlemaine offers. We have wonderful neighbours and community with endless opportunities and activities.
  • A small yet cosy and warm room with everything you would expect. Walking distance to the main streets of Castlemaine.

  • Ellen's place is beautiful, simple and very comfortable & cosy. I only stayed 1 night but was enough to say that Ellen is also a very kind, attentive and responsive host. The amenities were as listed, even better, and everything is there for you to feel very comfortable and like at home. I'd definitely recommend Ellen's place and it could be among my favorite AirBnb stays, if not the best.

    Sebastian2017-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • I loved the whole place and would recommend it as a completely relaxing getaway for anyone!

    Annie2015-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Ellen was a great host. She made me feel so comfortable in her home that it felt like a home away from home.

    francis2016-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect host and perfect house! Ellen was very welcoming and warm. She was very attentive and caring, I cant say enough good things about my stay with Ellen. Thanks Ellen for hosting me and made my trip memorable.

  • Staying with Ellen was a really warm and comforting experience. Her home is neat, clean and cozy. I stayed for a week while working in Castlemaine and everyday I was so happy to know that I would be heading back to a warm fire and an incredibly nourishing and tasty dinner. The house is in a fantastic organic garden with chooks and fruit trees, situated right next to bushland which was very convenient for walks and runs. Ellen is a clear communicator and takes care to make her guests comfortable. We had some great talks and she is always ready and willing to give tips and advice about the local area and town. I can't recommend staying with Ellen highly enough.

    Klara2015-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ellen welcomes you into her home and makes it an enjoyable experience.

    Carl2017-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • i enjoyed my stay with Ellen. Ellen provided dinner. A 2 course meal for $15.00. The meal was lovely. My accomodation was very nice. Clean bedroom. Clean linen and towel. The home is just beautiful. It faces out onto bush land. Ellen was a great host who made me feel very much at home.

    Cassandra2017-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • Murrnong is only a few minutes out of town but feels further - it's very peaceful, a little ways up a dirt road. There are several houses on the one ten acre block and Ellen's has a beautiful kitchen, lovely little bedrooms and a very welcoming feel. I was in Castlemaine for a wedding and Ellen left the hall light on for me because she knew I was going to come in late. She lent me a bicycle, which was excellent because it meant I was able to get around, despite the lack of a car. I only wish I had a bit more time to explore the block - it sounds like there were chooks and veggie gardens and an orchard (Ellen was stewing up some home grown pears the morning I left). A good place to spend a few days just chilling out, I reckon.

  • Thanks for a warm welcome, good conversation and a very easy stay. Your house is really clean and has a great feel to it. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch with a cold beer after the drive up and loved Castlemaine. Cheer, Alex and Naomi.

  • Fabulously clean, great facilities, pretty garden, awesome soaking tub, comfy mattress and great conversations with Suzanne. Great stay. Highly recommended.

  • It was everything the site stated. Communication with Suzanne was great and prompt loveley place to stay.

  • Suzanne is a gentle delightful soul. I only wish my trip wasn't so busy to hang out in the B&B space a little more.

    Brian2016-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne was very relaxed and welcoming and made us feel at home. Prior contact was easy. The room was beautiful with telly and movies etc. We could even fit our porta cot in the room, and when we were late back to check out (locked our keys in car!) Suzanne - with our blessing- packed up the cot for us! Bless. As she had other guests arriving soon that day. She was away for most of our stay, so we had place to ourselves which was cosy. Toast, eggs and bacon provided. A cosy little back deck to enjoy a ciggie on. Overall we had a lovely time ad Suzanne was a lovely host with lovely house and room.

  • What a beautiful, relaxing and peaceful weekend. We are in love with the love shack! Robyn is a fabulous, kind host. Thank you so much xx

    duana2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • After arriving at midnight we finally found the place and the key. It was a lovely stay, such a well designed shack. Lots of nice furnishings and very well stocked kitchen. Especially nice teapot and plates. It was a very comfortable stay, will come again, but for longer next time.

    Jacqui2017-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Robyn's shack is absolutely magical and provides a wonderful getaway in the Australian outback just shy of Castlemaine. The shack is quaint and provides all the vitals - firewoord, amenities and plenty of quilts for winter. A note would be to ensure you put a log on the fireplace before bed as it gets cold - very cold. The fog in the morning is just magical though! Great spot to unwind and drop out of the digital world!

    Andy2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful stay, nice and quiet, lovely scenery. Perfect for a couple.

    Madi2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Robyn your place was just brilliant we enjoyed the peace and quiet and absolutely loved the shack design and the beautiful breeze that comes thru when the windows are opened. If you looking for a totally relaxing stay no this is it. Great value to boot!

  • Robyn, was a pleasure to deal with from the moment of booking. The 'Love Shack' exceeded my expectations of location, size and aesthetic. • Peter is a really chill guy his House is both quirky and comfortable, within walking distance of the main strip but very well secluded with a cool garden. Would recommend for an overnight or couple night stay

    Jack2017-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Although only a brief stay, I found Peter and his Garden of D'lights to be very engaging and charming. Despite his busy film-making and home renovating schedule, Peter was active in encouraging exploration of the local area, based on expressed interests and personal proclivities, as well as being inclusive in the sharing of his home and story.

    Paul2017-11-13T00:00:00Z

  • Peter is the most interesting and thoughtful host we have ever had! So welcoming and full of enthusiasm for Castlemaine and everything else ... the 1850s garden, the house, China, the local film industry, local real estate, solar power ... next time, I think we'll stay at the Garden of Delights just to visit YOU!

    Randall2017-11-05T00:00:00Z

Set in historical Castlemaine, this rustic guest studio is situated in a backyard with olives, fruit trees, herbs and a foraging vegetable garden. Residents include Bella the house cat and six friendly chooks who will be delighted to share their eggs with guests. The bedroom sits behind the main house, offering privacy and peacefulness. Guests have their own bathroom and kitchenette which is separated from the bedroom by a garden path. There is also an outdoor entertaining area.
The original home - a miners cottage - was built in 1856. Over the years, bits have been added so there is a mix of old and new on the property. The property has an environmentally sustainable approach to living so there is solar energy, rainwater tanks, an edible garden and of course, chooks. Castlemaine is a town of charm and this home is typical of the local culture. You will enjoy the vibe!!!!
Staying with us is about having the Castlemaine experience. We Castlemaine folk are a mix of all sorts. Families who brag about their connections to the gold-rush, Tree-changers, artists, musicians, environmentalists, alternatives all living side by side. It makes for an eclectic group. Further afield within an hour drive are some great little villages all with there own personalities, great foodie towns, farmers markets and unique points of interest. Places worth visiting include historical Maldon, sustainability Newstead, trendy Trentham and of course Daylesford is over-run with tourists sampling fabulous attractions. We keep a copy of local historical books and tourist information for our guests.
  • The room was excellent for a quiet and private getaway. The room is separate from kitchen and bathroom, but a scenic garden between the two. Wendy is a great host and makes sure everything is ready for a single person or couple looking for a quiet retreat. A stone's throw from the main straight, less than a 5 minute walk.

    Jayden2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Good central location to walk or drive to the shops, cafes or tour the area. Peaceful setting, very comfortable bed. Comprehensive information book and Wendy was very helpful with suggestions and knowledge of the area. Property as described.

    Janet2017-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Everything you need, close to town, great host. Chookies are delightful! Would definitely stay again, thank you.

    Nikki2017-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our weeks stay went by so quickly. The garden and surrounds are so lovely. Castlemaine is a lovely town to visit with so much history.

    Lynn2017-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • As a new host, Wendy was open to suggestions and provided wonderful knowledge of local amenities. Her recommendation for dinner at the local Italian Pizzaria just a short walk away was a treat. If you get the chance, definitely go there. We also scoured The Mill on Wendy's recommendation and were delighted with our retro and vintage finds. Wendy provided us with a lovely breakfast including boiled eggs from her chickens. We enjoyed the peace garden and feeding the chickens. Just lovely.

    Kelly2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Wendy's home. She was very welcoming and made check in easy, even though we arrived later than expected. The house is a short walk from town and only about a 5 minute cycle from the train station. The bathroom and kitchen area is separated from the bedroom (only by about 10m) which isn't described in the listing. We didn't mind too much and we still felt we had plenty of privacy as the kitchen and bathroom are separated from the main house, but it is something we would've liked to have known in advance.

A cute little holiday cottage. Next door to The Bridge Hotel. Opposite (more or less) the botanical gardens, 5mins walk to "The Mill" the home of Castlemaine's Vintage Bazaar, The Taproom, Das Kaffehaus, Boom Town Wine and much more!
This house is a simple cheerful affair, cosy and comfortable. With everything you need and nothing you don't need. It has smiling gnomes, potted plants and a floral cane lounge suit just like a stay a Nan and Pops holiday house. It has a fully fenced courtyard and a bungalow The bungalow has two single beds and as it is separate from the main cottage it may not be suitable for young children. You are more than welcome to have your children in the main house but you will need to provide your own bedding for them. (One of the single beds is a little (a very little) on the short side. Not really an issue for children or adults not too fussy but may be an issue for some and worth mentioning.) This cottage is perfect for a night out on the town, with the gardens and The Mill with its hub of activities just down the road for some day time meanderings. *******Please note that there is a pub next door with frequent live music events. The sound does carry through to the house. Most guests find it more than acceptable and it is only on the late side over fri/sat nights. During the week it is usually pretty quiet and mild with early nights depending on numbers. It is a country pub after all in a small town. You may as well pop over, have a meal and join the fun. It's the coolest pub in town!
The cottage is located in what has now become the Arts precinct of Castlemaine. It's a great side of town to be in and the cbd is only a few minutes drive away or a 20 min walk.
  • Cute little cottage perfect for a couple. Next door to the Bridge hotel which has regular live music and a cool beer garden. Just a hop and a skip from the Brewery and Bazaar at The Mills.

  • Whispering Oaks is in a very quiet location surrounded by beautiful gardens and only a few minutes drive from Castlemaine town center. The cottage was very comfortable and cozy on the wintery nights we stayed, we would definitely stay again! Cheers.

  • We loved the cottage. So clean, neat, warm and cosy. It's small, but for a relaxed getaway I could not recommend this place more.

  • We had a lovely stay at Whispering Oaks- Christine is a very responsive host, the place is sweet and very clean. Very generous breakfast hamper.

    Jess2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Christine was really helpful in setting up the booking and communicating. The cottage was absolutely delightful and quite charming. Everything we needed was there, and was clean and fresh. Lovely to walk out into the garden in the morning, and had a nice chat with Christine. Hope to come back another time.

    Chris2016-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful cottage and surrounds, had a really relaxing time and enjoyed thoroughly, would highly recommend.

    Jennifer2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Christine is a gorgeous person. She has a beautiful soul and it is evidently reflected in the details and thought she has put into the cottage. Everything was so perfect. From the decorations to the homemade cakes and breakfast to warm towels on the racks. We arrived on a cold afternoon but the cottage was already warm and cozy. She left the heater on for us. The garden was meticulously tendered to. Lots of greens and flowers blooming. We had a fantastic time sitting outside enjoying the beauty and hearing birds chirping. It is a heavenly nest on earth in Castlemaine. We will definitely be back again and again. The cottage is so close to the town n very easy to find. We had a fantabulous time!

An historic free-standing building on our 12 acre property "Claremont" (c.1857), the Garden Cottage has been fully renovated to offer a unique place to stay in beautiful, peaceful and historic surroundings. The accommodation is totally private, with a queen bed, en suite bathroom and basic food preparation facilities (fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle). It has a split system for heating and cooling. The Garden Cottage is approx. 3.4 km to the heart of Castlemaine township, and is only a short walk to the lovely Botanical Gardens.
With an old world atmosphere, quiet and private, the cottage is about 15 metres from the Claremont homestead itself in acres of lawn, garden and bush.
On the edge of Castlemaine town, next to the botanic gardens, set in history, surrounded by bush, what more could you ask for?
  • We loved every aspect of our stay at the Historic Garden Cottage near Castlemaine. We arrived early afternoon as discussed and were welcomed by Helen. The Cottage is charming, with a very effective pot belly heater and lovely fittings. We appreciated the quiet natural setting and I was able to have a beautiful walk in the surrounding bushy area in the morning. Everything worked easily and we were most comfortable.

  • What a lovely place to stay! The cottage is private, cosy and had everything we needed. We loved waking up to the birds calling in the morning. The property is close to the edge of the Castlemaine botanical gardens, but it feels like you're in the middle of the bush. It was very relaxing, and Ian and Helen were very welcoming... even when we misplaced our key at 11pm!!! Would recommend the Historic Garden Cottage to anyone wishing to get away to the country.

    Emma2015-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Charming single room cottage on the grounds of a lovely old house near the Botanical Gardens. Very nice hosts

    Anne2017-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Helen contacted us before putting the booking through to be sure we understood there wasn't a full kitchen, which suited us since we were visiting family. A great area of Castlemaine to stay in. The cottage was clean and felt safe, comfortable and warm, even in early spring. There are stone floors, so don't forget cosy socks in colder months!

    Julia2016-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely quiet setting outside town a bit. Cottage is dark - in keeping with the era in which it was built - with average fit-out. Hosts rather aloof but that was no problem. We were perfectly comfortable.

    Mary Jo2015-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Helen and Ian made us most welcome. The cottage was delightful - wonderful atmosphere and very cosy. Thoroughly enjoyed the surrounding garden and countryside. We loved staying here. Thank you Helen and Ian.

Nestled under a large, ancient peppercorn tree, this gorgeous self contained studio will house you just fine for a couple of nights or longer. Newly renovated and with meticulous attention to detail, you will want for nothing.
  • Under the Peppercorn Tree exceeded our expectations. It was very well designed and catered to all our needs. E was very kind and provided far more than the essentials. Can't rave enough about the beauty and design standard of the room. Under the Peppercorn Tree the perfect fit for a relaxing New Years getaway. Highly recommend.

  • We had a lovely stay at Under a Peppercorn Tree. Everything we needed was taken care of including breakfast supplies. There is a lovely walk along the creek to Castlemaine (about 40 min). And we ate a lot of good food in Castlemaine and Kyneton too. I'd recommend staying at this quiet, stylish retreat.

    Camille2015-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great weekend Under a Peppercorn Tree, perfect space to relax. We liked being able to cook and lounge around. It was a great setting close to a bike path to ride into town to get to the market and also taking a Sunday morning run. We loved the thoughtful way the space was made so welcoming, with fresh flowers and items ready for a cuppa and breaky.

    Tamara2015-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I had a wonderful, restful time on Lemon Street. E was very helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. The evenings were quite cold but the heater kept us warm inside. We spent a lovely few days here and would recommend it to friends.

  • This listing exceeded all our expectations. It is beautifully located on a quiet road literally under a peppercorn tree. The interior fit out is very thoughtful and comfortable. They even left us some fresh tomatoes and bread for our breakfast. An unexpected touch which didn't go unnoticed. Thank you for your hospitality E. We will be back hopefully sometime soon.

We have just set up this two bedroom cottage as a weekender. It is circa 1910 but has been freshly painted with an updated bathroom and a great heater. It is located close to the botanical gardens, the bridge hotel, Castlemaine brewery (taproom) and the mill market. It's 1.4 km to the train station which is about a 15 minute walk. There are two small houses on the block but they are completely separate. I love Castlemaine and coming to stay here so hope you will too. Note, there is no wi fi.
There are two bedrooms the main bedroom has a queen size bed and the second bedroom has a foldout futon couch which is probably most comfortable for one person. As we are just setting up there is still work to do on the garden. Pets ok by negotiation.
Walking distance to the botanical garden and the mill precinct including the Castlemaine brewery. 15 minute walk to the train station.
  • Deborah's place is very neat and clean with all the basic necessities. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

    stephanie2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Cute and basic two bedroomer in a peaceful residential/suburban setting. (The quiet is deafening apart from the whir of the gas heater.) Virtually no traffic. Beds were comfortable with plenty of bedding and more if required. The kitchen and bathroom were well stocked with necessities for breakfast and cooking facilities for self cooking. ..although you may need to bring your own bar soap, sugar and instant coffee if you like these particular items(URL HIDDEN) Nearest place to eat out ... Bridge Hotel a 5 minute walk away. If you come to Castlemaine by train, Deb's house is about a fifteen minute stroll from the station. *Just watch out for evidence of previous canine' presence on the footpath. The living area, bedrooms and kitchen are all comfortably serviced by a gas heater .... but in winter, at least, the bathroom and laundry definitely not so ! There is a gas oven and a microwave ... and a clothes washing machine and dryer. The front yard is small and leads up to a veranda around the house which is separated into two residences. The backyard is large and fairly empty except for a utility shed and has few attractiions for those who may have an interest in relaxing out back. So what you get is basically a warm, comfortable and quiet two bedder with most sleeping and eating necessities taken care of. By the time the next visitors come in winter I hope there will be more draft stoppers for the doors. All that being said we enjoyed our short stay and do recommend this place.

    william2017-07-08T00:00:00Z

Enjoy the spectacular sunsets and magnificent sunrises at "butterworth" which is situated high on a hill. With the convenience of being in town and the ambience of a semi-bush setting. It is newly constructed of recycled materials and has a 7 star energy rating. Help yourself to veggies from the garden and eggs from the nearby chookshed. (Chicken house) You will awake to birdsong each morning and appreciate the quiet at night sitting on your very private veranda equipped with BBQ and outdoor furniture. Cool off in summer months by enjoying a swim in our 15m salt water lap pool. We have bunk style accommodation for 2 children ( one bed is 1.5 metres, the other is 1.8 metres long ) as well as a queen sized bed for a couple. Eat in one of the many restaurants and cafes. • Our stay at Butterworth Cottage was amazing! Set in stunning natural surrounds, the cottage is brand new and fitted out with everything you need for a weekend or longer get-away, board games included. Special mention also has to be made about the bathroom - it's heavenly! The freestanding bath and large shower really made my stay feel very luxurious. Castlemaine town centre is only a short stroll away - lots of nice shops, cafes & restaurants to check-out. Shirley is a great host, very warm and friendly with great tips about all Castlemaine has to offer. I would not hesitate to recommend Shirley and this property for a relaxing peaceful escape. Ps. Family friendly and killer wood fire for those cold evenings! Thanks Shirley!

  • Fred and Shirley were both very friendly and welcoming and their property is lovely and set in a beautiful bushy area. The interior was very tasteful- lovely sheets and towels. The kitchen had all you need and was nice to eat eggs from the chooks and look out at the veggie garden. The only issue was the second bedroom was very small and only really suitable for small children.

    Brig2014-10-02T00:00:00Z

A cute and charming country get away. Hear the frogs at night in the creek, and enjoy weekend shopping at the nearby Wesley Hill farmers' market. Visit Castlemaine's great cafes, parks and bushland. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness, history, the beautifully renovated kitchen. I am a writer, and so there's heaps of great books to read while you are here. My place is a short drive into town or 20 min walk.
  • Yes a cute cottage , yes close to town and cafe . Very unclean , bathroom , beds , linen , fridge ,all filthy . Mould on Matresses, stains on Sheets and towels . No aircon and unable to open windows ,painted shut. No screens for bugs even if you could .

  • A charming little cottage, plenty of room for a small family or couple and very clean and very well equipped (minus a TV/DVD player which would have been great with kids). Overall a really pleasant stay here and I'd recommend.

  • This quaint cottage with modern kitchen and bathroom was very comfortable for 3 people or two couples, with a cosy lounge and a good size kitchen/dining room. The break from tv was compensated by a great library, but wifi unfortunately not working while we were there. The cottage was close to town and a quick drive out into the magnificent countryside. This area would be beautiful in any season. We loved all the original cottages in Castlemaine and the streetscapes and shopping opportunities in nearby Kyneton and Daylesford.

  • A cottage - I mean it is a real cottage, with history, style, floor boards and charm. But with a warm heater. A facinating library, coffee plunger, and you can hear the steam train in the distance.

  • Well despite the wet, cold weather we had a fantastic time at Mark's place. We drank the bubbles as soon as we arrived - thanks Mark, a lovely touch. We used several of Mark's suggestions for local eateries over the 2 days and enjoyed them all. The fresh eggs were divine - not like we get in the big city. The best part were all the comfy beds and lounges that we could snuggle up in. We spent quite a lot of time round the fire. Not a great weekend for sight seeing so we mainly hunkered down read and chatted. It was perfect. I'd highly recommend Mark & Jane's place - when the clouds occasionally cleared the views across Castlemaine were gorgeous. Thanks for a couple of great days away from the big smoke.

  • I could write an essay on how wonderful this house is and what a pleasure it was to stay in Mark & Jane's home. Effortless communication between us and the house was toasty warm to welcome us all. Complimentary fresh eggs, home made chocolate brownies, there were even chocolates on our beds to nibble. A spotless house, with great lighting and captivating decor. The value for money this home gave us, makes us give this AIRbnb a 10 out 10 for everything.

  • Ellen is a great host and the house is in a beautiful spot. I had a great stay, thoroughly recommended for a stay in Castlemaine.

    Kristina2016-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Ellen was the best host you could have! I felt welcome from the moment I arrived. Ellen prepared a beautiful vegetarian dinner ($15 extra) which was delicious. I was in Castlemaine for a friends funeral and Ellen was very accommodating, making me cups of tea and she joined me in lazing on the lounges talking about life. I couldn't have asked for a better host. The house is beautiful, clean and the room is big and comfortable. The setting of Castlemaine is really peaceful and I wouldn't have minded having a couple more days there to enjoy being a tourist. Highly recommend Ellen's home.

  • She is most friendly and made the stay perfect. It a nice and most comfortable place. Plus you get a chance to see Kangaroo just outside the window ....

  • Great place to stay at! Ellen is lovely.

  • I had a wonderful night's stay at Murrnong Manna. Ellen is a lovely intelligent woman and I enjoyed our conversations. Dinner and breakfast were delicious- both made by Ellen, with many ingredients from their garden. Clean, spacious house, large shower, comfortable bed, and plenty of warm blankets. Kalimna Park is next door with some good hiking trails. I would happily stay here again.

    Julie2015-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Murrnong Manna is set on a beautiful property and Ellen is a wonderful and generous host. The room is a lot larger than it looked in the photograph, heaps of space and your own semi ensuite as well! Thanks for the lovely breakfast and coffee Ellen, we would love to comeback one day to explore Castlemaine.

  • Our family, including our dog, needed a get-away, with peaceful surroundings, a rustic feel, bush sounds, and friendly hosts. We found it at The Mud House. A fantastic short stay to bring in the new year, and explore the historic towns of Castlemaine & Maldon. We'll be back

  • Thank you three so much for the fabulous weekend away, it was lovely to meet you all. The mud house was the perfect place to celebrate our 5th anniversary with our two children. We had the most wonderful weekend! Definitely will be back soon. Xx

  • A gorgeous space, beautiful setting, perfect for a bush getaway. The hosts had the fire going ahead of our arrival as well as fresh croissants to bake the following morning. Will definitely return. Thankyou

  • Loved the Mudhouse, right next to the owner's house for a sense of security but total privacy is yours. Beautiful view of trees, land, country and starry skies. Minutes from Castlemaine and a short trip to Maldon. Remember the fly spray and insect repellent in summer, and be friendly with your travel companions.. there are no internal doors separating rooms. I had a solo getaway so was perfect for me :)

Renovated art deco house nestled in a quiet tucked-away area of Castlemaine. It is a gentle 1.3 km walk to the centre of Castlemaine on the creek side walking track, or along the street.
2 double bedrooms (the main with an en suite bathroom, the second with a single trundle bed if needed). The standard booking rate for 2 people assumes use of one bedroom and one bathroom (though you still have the whole house to yourselves.) If 2 people book requiring a bedroom each, you will need to book as for 3 people. Main bathroom with shower over bath, basin, and toilet; en suite with shower, basin, and toilet. Lounge with wood heater. Separate study with gas log fire. Fully equipped kitchen, with dishwasher, and tea, coffee, and a range of spices, etc., provided. Family room with split system air conditioner / heater. A little back balcony overlooking the garden. Laundry. The front of the house is original art deco with decorative plaster ceilings; the rear (with kitchen / laundry / en suite) is fully renovated. There are 2 bicycles available for use, by prior arrangement. We have a portacot for use with babies.
  • Simon was very accommodating. He was able to provide a portacot for our 8-month old to use, and he also loaned me a pushbike to ride to the Train Station (I was commuting to Melbourne during our stay). Always very prompt in replying and popped by on our final morning to say hello. The house was warm and cosy, with plenty of books, games and a few DVD's there if needed. It was quite family-friendly.

    Dylan2016-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Simon and Alison were lovely to chat with but also left us to do our own thing. Kitchen was fully equipped, had everything you could need. Warm and generous hosts, property close enough to the centre of town without being on or near a main road, highly recommended.

    Kieran2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Simon and Alison provided everything we needed for a perfect stay. The beautifully restored cottage was everything we imagined .... Cosy wood fire, comfy beds and loads of information about the area.

    Denice2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • The house was not as central as I had thought but apart from that everything was excellent, thanks

  • We had a fantastic stay at Simon and Alison's beautiful deco house. The house has been renovated to a very high standard. It is extremely comfortable and has every modern convenience. We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Simon and Alison are fantastic hosts and we enjoyed catching up on travel tales.

    Jeanette2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Simon is a very friendly, helpful and responsive host. "Finsbury" is a cosy, atmospheric Art Deco space to stay in with the modern conveniences at your fingertips. We loved stoking the fire, and chose to stay in on our one night stay rather than go out because of the homely space. My friends and I highly recommend staying at Finsbury for a relaxing stay in Castlemaine in a very tastefully revonated house.

    Nikki2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful Art Deco house, quiet green location on the edge of town. Relaxed and well appointed this place won't disappoint, warm and kind hosts were an unexpected bonus. Loved the house and look forward to going back.

Situated on the highest hill in town, be&be boasts magnificent three-hundred-and-sixty-degree-views over town and country. The Elizabethan style house and studio are heritage listed and sit in an acre of garden, providing the perfect setting for a remarkable country experience, only a short walk to town. Treat yourself and book a stay, the encounter will linger long after you return home.
The self-contained, studio-style building at be&be is part of a heritage-listed property. Inside furnishings combine mid-century elegance with seventies funk, to bring freshness and character to the historically laden, hundred-and-fifty-year-old dwelling. Outside european trees, bonsaied by the harsh conditions on the hill, sit amongst a crop of hundred year old gums. Rock beds and structural succulents combine with these elements to make the garden a unique and wonderful place to visit.
  • Nicola's place was beautiful - exactly as I expected from the photos, but still better in real life. We visited as a couple and found the spacious open plan upstairs and downstairs perfect for spending time together. The view of all of the greenery out of every window was wonderful. be&be is close to the main house, but the only other inhabitant we came across was a gentle and friendly old dog who ambled over for a pat when we took a walk one evening.

    Ruth2016-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Be&be was an incredible space, the perfect weekend getaway. We were blown away but the stunning interior and can confidently say it was our favourite Air BnB stay to date. Nicola was a wonderful and accommodating host, making sure we had everything we needed for a lovely stay. It was hard to leave. Back again soon I'm sure :)

  • My husband and I have just arrived back home from a 2 night escape to Castlemaine, where we stayed at Nicola's studio accomodation. From the moment we arrived there and stepped inside, we felt a strong sense of peace and calm. It was a cold winters day and Nicola had turned on the heating and lamps, creating a cosy, welcoming touch. This studio is amazing! We had so much space. Space that was furnished magnificently with warm, tasteful and attractive furnishings. We totally loved the retro style, the soft lamp lighting, pot plants, floor cushions, array of fabulous seating options and the big comfortable bed and pillows. The building itself is beautiful and we admired the arched windows on one end. Such a perfect spot to sit and read when the sun poked out and streamed through the glass. The yummy breakfast items were thoughtfully provided too. There is so much to love about this accomodation and we will definitely be back!

    Jo2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • If you're reading this review trying to decide whether or not to stay here, then stop reading and start booking because this place is an absolute dream. The studio itself is a beautiful mezzanine loft with open plan layout, full of nooks and plush finishing to sit read, eat cheese, drink wine and enjoy a relaxing weekend in Castlemaine. It's far enough away that it feels super private, and yet is close enough that a 15 minute stroll gets you a great coffee at the Castlemaine theatre. In fact, why are you still reading? Book this place immediately! You will not regret the time spent in it's complete luxury.

    Andrew2017-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely quiet get away @ Nicola's be&be. The cottage looks exactly like the photos, very comfortable with quirky styling and had all the necessary items to make us comfortable. We felt totally private and the bedroom had lovely treetop views to wake up to. The bedroom upstairs is fantastic and with the extra sitting area is a very beautiful space to relax. Nicola was very accomodating with all our special requests and questions regarding the local restaurants and cafes, and even provided a special offering for my partner's birthday which we were celebrating during our stay. The only thing would make it better is a fireplace to cosy upto. I'd love to come back for another stay during summer next time.

    Judith2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Of all the places we've stayed at so far in Victoria, Nicola's place is, BY FAR, the most unique, comfortable and harmonious of them all. Beautiful set and decorated, very well furnished and equipped, with a deliciously comfy bed and quality linens, great kitchen, great bathroom, it's a place you don't want to leave, and if you have to, definitely a place to come back to. Thanks for the hospitality and all the little attentions, Nicola, like the bread, jam, and fruit basket. Our stay was memorable.

    Michel2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Every once in a while, you walk into a place and your jaw drops. And if you're really lucky, you feel at home in about ten seconds. I've only just left Nicola's place and already want to go back. Every inch of the place is well thought-out. The vibe is super chilled. The location is perfect. The details are on point. And Nicola is the perfect host – she even booked a spot for us at The Good Table. My partner and I stayed there for four nights as a working retreat, away from the city. I can't wait to do it again. I can't rave about this place enough.

    Crystal2016-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Nicola's place is very unique. It is private, comfortable and beautifully designed with extremely thoughtful details. Nicola is a very warm and friendly lady. She created a cosy space that made me feel so comfortable and at home at once. The neighbourhood in Castlemaine is super friendly and warm :) There were many interesting and beautiful places to explore. I didn't want to leave! This is definitely one of my favorite stays in Australian :p Thank you for everything Nicola!

My place is close to public transport, the town's centre, and here is bushland for walking just a few streets away. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers. Spring has been amazing in Castlemaine as it has been all around in this part of the world.
My place is a family home. Shared living spaces, private bedroom and bathroom,
I live in a reasonably quiet neighbourhood close to the centre of town.
  • Helen welcomed us into her house on a wooly evening with a pot of hot tea and a whirlwind of recommendations and information about Castlemaine. The walk into town was easy, only hindered by the ridiculous weather that accompanied our stay. We were offered home grown tea, and eggs from Helen's chickens, as well as put up in a comfortable, warm room, with our own bathroom and sheet of poetry adorning the back of the loo door. We were able to do what we wanted, while also being able to rely on Helen for any advice. Thank you!

  • Helen's place was nice, clean and tidy. The host was very helpful, friendly, kind and generous. It was a great pleasure to spend time in her Home.

  • Helen was a wonderful host; very friendly, making me feel very much at home. All comforts required for a relaxing stay were well provided. I felt very at ease in Helen's house which has a quiet setting with a private bathroom adjacent to the guest bedroom and a lovely garden with fresh produce including fresh eggs. I particularly appreciated Helen's knowledge of the local area and sharing activities while having independent use of sitting rooms and the kitchen. Also, from her place it's a short walk to the town centre and the train that runs between Bendigo and Melbourne.

  • I don't want to give too much away in the review. It's pure magic out at the cottage. Highly recommend and Anne is such an amazing host. Perfect for something quite and nourishing, yet no too far away from Castlemaine and other towns in the region. We'll be back again!

  • Our stay at granny Thomas cottage was absolutely lovely. The place was warm upon our arrival as Anne had lit up the fireplace before. Anne and Zon were also kind to give us a tour of their own house after we settled in. The kitchen was also stocked with fresh sourdough, organic eggs, cereal, milk etc. that is more than enough for a simple breakfast. On top of that, my puppy had the most wonderful time exploring the bushland. Thanks Anne and family for having us. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay without a doubt.

    Claire2016-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Anne was very welcoming when we arrived, the fires were blazing and there was a lot of generosity and care in how the house is set up for visitors. This is an attractive house in a beautiful environment, comfortable and well cared for. We have no hesitation in recommending it if you want a relaxing holiday in nature.

  • Our stay at Granny Thomas Cottage was absolutely lovely. Anne made us feel very welcome and on a chilly winter evening, had the fire going for us on arrival. The cottage is quite seperate to the main house, surrounded by bushland and is cosy, comfortable and filled with character. Beds were comfy and the kitchen well equipped. I would highly recommend staying in this lovely, secluded property.

  • Anne was the perfect hostess with relaxed, clear and accomodating communications in advance of our arrival. My travelling companions received a warm welcome and immediately fell in love with Granny Thomas Cottage. When I arrived, I did too! The cottage is as advertised and its features are well represented on the Airbnb website. The setting is mid-Victorian bushland and pleasant aspects are to be enjoyed at all the many windows. Every convenience worked perfectly and the lounge and dining spaces invited long lounging and dining. The sleeping quarters upstairs are beautifully presented and the beds and linen are superb. None of us wanted to leave our beds in the morning! This is a wonderful cottage and we unreservedly recommend it for the ideal inland bush retreat. We are much indebted to Anne and partner for creating the conditions for such a delightful BnB experience. With gratitude and delight, Mark, Viv & Tom.

  • This was my third stay in Granny Thomas Cottage, as relaxing and enjoyable as ever. Saw kangaroos, admired the bird life and the change in season.

Great kitchen and dining table perfect for sitting around for a communal meal. It was the depths of winter and the place was well heated, we didn't realise it was only 6 degrees outside! The location is also a nice proximity to walk into town and there is a walking track great for a stroll. I'd definitely book again! Thanks.

A perfect romantic getaway spot, or a cosy trip away for a small family, the converted stable has sleeping options for up to four people in the upstairs bedroom. (One double bed, one double fold out couch, and a fold-out iron single bed). Comforts include an open fire (as well as a gas heater!), air conditioner (cooling and heating), fully equipped kitchen, a record player and collection of vinyl, comfy couches, books, a collection of magazines, board games, and WIFI & Netflix. Located a few mins drive from central Castlemaine, a slow-moving country town with an emphasis on local produce and gastronomy, wine, heritage and history, arts and crafts. BEDS: The space is ideally suited to a couple or small family. There is one double bed, one double fold out sofa, one single trundle bed and a portacot available. - A Brief History - The Diggers’ Store store was established in Campbells Creek in 1857. Today it remains a well-known heritage icon in Castlemaine and the surrounding area. A gentleman named William Wood was granted the land in order to set up a gold-mining supplies store to fulfill the needs of the growing town. (Hence the name The Diggers Store!) Gold had been discovered in the area in 1851 and within two years more than five thousand miners were living in a shanty-town that stretched along the Creek. The stable, once housing Mr. Wood’s horses and hay, was carefully and respectfully converted in to a two-story dwelling in the early 1990s in order to set it up as a bed and breakfast. Alex and Tina re-opened The Diggers Store B&B in late 2013. Alex grew up on the property where his parents once ran an antiques store, a devonshire tea house, and ran the B&B. Alex and Tina have also set up an all-analogue recording studio on the property, Sound Recordings, they run a pop-up art space and coffee shop in the original diggers store, and they recently opened up their property for private functions and creative projects.
  • Tina & Alex's B&B is a little jewel in the goldfields. It radiates the love and thought put into it with freshly baked bread on the table and a generally welcoming atmosphere. We felt right at home when we arrived and enjoyed every minute we spent. Obviously, this wouldn't have been without great host such as Tina & Alex. They welcomed us late in the evening after some issues with our itinerary and showed us around nonetheless. We had some lovely chats over the course of the weekend and really enjoyed staying with them. They are great hosts and very interesting people. We'd be coming back any time and probably will :)

  • A cosy, unique and gorgeous converted barn. Ideal spot for a couple with board games, great records, yummy organic breaky and vintage decor. Loved it!

  • Thanks Tina & Alex, Although it was the coldest day/night on record for a long time, (yes it snowed) our little house was all nice and warm thanks to our hosts. A great breakfast ready for us to cook at our leisure and a great comfy bed for a great nights rest. Thanks again :)

  • Really enjoyed staying here. The fireplace and heater were great. Short walk home from the pub.

  • We loved our stay at Tina and Alexs' beautiful bnb. Thanks for the lovely range of breaky supplies. We really enjoyed exploring the local area and highly recommend the Railway Hotel for a fantastic meal and service. We will definitely return here for another stay in this wonderful rustic barn converstion. Sandra & Jeff Cornell

  • The Diggers Store B&B provides an authentic rural experience, with beautifully presented spaces adorned with charming furnishings and rustic details. There's loads of cosy blankets, reading material, a fabulous record collection and divine attic bedroom flooded with afternoon sun, and a wonderfully delicious collection of ingredients ready for breakfast in the sweet little kitchen. Tina and Alex are nearby if needed, but we were essentially left to ourselves to enjoy a private and much-needed break from city life.

  • We loved our time at the Diggers Store. Tina and Alex were incredibly welcoming and the accommodation itself was perfect for our little family. The breakfast included with our stay was delicious - fresh eggs, sourdough bread, the most amazing muesli, organic milk and yoghurt. Although Castlemaine is full of beautiful places to have breakfast, we couldn't possibly have left this feast behind. The care for detail at The Diggers Store is what I loved; simple decorations that make you feel at home, soft comfortable beds and linen, blankets to throw over your knee, an open fire place, games, old records and best of all - no TV! We took our push bikes, and highly recommend if you're staying here to do the same. Makes the trip into town easy, and a joy to not get in the car. A small family or couple will be so at home here. Enjoy!

This is a one-off, very special place. Dating back to 1864 and constructed of beautiful local stone, it's not at all modernised. There are two double bedrooms, both with slat-style beds, and a foldout couch in the living room. Also a single bed/daybed in main bedroom & portacot available. The house is often used by writers and other creative types. We have lots of books to read, records to play, and there's a hammock you can sling under the back verandah. The garden area is not landscaped; it's a mix of open grass, native trees, a slightly neglected vegie garden and a number of pretty fruit trees. Come here to relax, sleep, sit in front of the fire; if you must go out, it's a ten minute drive to Castlemaine and twenty minutes to Daylesford, both of which have great markets, shops, restaurants and cultural events. It's priced to reflect its unrenovated condition and the need for you to be fairly self-sufficient; this is a house where you can unwind and be at peace.
  • This is a classic place to stay. It is right in the middle of the gold fields and Historic trails. The pub has plenty of books and antiques to keep every one interested and the building itself has lots of character. An authentic base to experience the old days.

  • Excellent place. Fireplace was lovely. Fully self sufficient

  • The old pub is a pretty special place, with its history, unrenovated condition and Jenny's furniture, knick knacks, books and other curios scattered around the house. The fire is amazing and was going for almost our entire 4-day stay, as was the record player. Our kids didn't miss the TV and loved watching the blue fairy-wrens in the garden, or playing games by the fire. The surrounding area is beautiful and we went on plenty of walks, as well as drives to Castlemaine, Daylesford and Maldon, which are all close. As a tip the Guildford General Store does amazingly cheap lunches, while the pub across the road is as friendly as they come. Would definitely recommend this place although it's certainly not for everyone!

  • Beautiful old property in a secluded location. Four of us had a wonderful few nights away.

  • Had a lovely break at your pub. It has a charm of its own - felt like stepping back in time. Jenny's very detailed instructions made arriving in the dark a breeze. The house had everything needed for a quiet getaway, and the dog loved the huge yard. I could receive phone calls if I left the phone against the front window and the radio was a pleasant break from TV. I was pleasantly surprised by how efficient the wood heater was. Thanks for the chance to stay in your piece of history,

  • This historical house was certainly an adventure. We loved the fire place and record player, and sitting out under the verander watching the birds with a cuppa. Jenny is a lovely, accommodating host.

  • The place gives you a very vintage feel, which enhanced ambience of the place even more. There was a drizzle most of the time we were there but the fireplace makes the house very cozy. It is a great place to get some peace of mind, go for long walks or even star gaze. The place is filled with great literature books from Shakespeare to Edgar Allan Poe for someone who is interested in Literature. There are games stocked up so we had a great time staying up playing games we usually never get to play back in Melbourne. Jenny- great host, had everything ready and well-organized. Great Trip! :)

  • The Old Pub was exactly what we needed for a weekend out of the city. Our three young kids had a ball and we enjoyed reminiscing with the record player! Jenny was a wonderful host. She responded to our request promptly, gave us plenty of information about the property and surrounds, and rang us to make sure we had everything we needed. The Old Pub is fantastic and is exactly what we expected from the photos. The neighbourhood was quiet and perfect for a weekend get-away. There is also plenty to see and do in the area (from Castlemaine/Daylesford to mineral springs and lookouts). Thank you Jenny for having us stay!

Great 50's weatherboard in Castlemaine with a brand new bathroom (hello double shower!), kitchen with huge stainless steel cooker and room for the whole family. Smart TV, NBN wifi, two big bedrooms and an office with sunroom with extra double bed and fold out sofa bed in the family room. The Castlemaine-Maldon steam train runs past the (work in progress) back yard which is like being on platform 9 and 3/4's when the Hogwarts Express goes past.
The yard is still needing some work, basic and neat.
Handy to the Campbells Creek Walking Trail in both directions which is replete with wallabies, amazing birds and reportedly platypus in the gorgeous Campbells Creek.
