  • I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful this place is, but most of all, how gracious and kind the hosts are- Richard & Stephanie. Me and a close group of friends enjoyed cooling off in the pool, beautiful strolls around the property, cooking in the park model, lovely nights at the yurt, stargazing, and ofcourse, the amazing breakfast that we still dream about until this day. We are so grateful to have been able to experience all these and cannot wait to come back :)

  • Richard and Stephanie are two of the nicest people you could hope to meet and the yurt is incredible to say the least. The craftsmanship of the structure and the thoughtful way its been furnished is astounding and a privilege to be allowed to stay in (not forgetting the way you're reduced to a little kid when you first step inside, and in the morning you wake up and realise where you are) Our trip was meant as a get away from the pace of the city and we couldn't have asked for more. After breakfast by the pool side I spent my Sunday watching humming birds dart around a nectarine tree and finished a book I'd started too many times. Even in March I was able to take a splash in the pool and enjoy the sun. They say that 'God is in the details' and Stephanie & Richard really have planned and provided everything you could need for a comfortable stay. In short we'll be going back, to unplug and give ourselves the time that we so easily forget we need.

  • It's been roughly 12 hours since I left Richard & Stephanie's magical property and my 6 girlfriends and I cannot stop raving about the magical weekend we experienced in their Mongolian Yurt. While the pictures and property descriptions were 100% accurate, nothing could prepare us for the intangible magic of the yurt. Everything about the yurt, the rest of the property, and Richard & Stephanie's warm hospitality exceeded our expectations. Communication leading up to our arrival was extremely prompt and responsive. Upon our arrival, we were amazed to see the love that Richard & Stephanie have poured into the property: bathrooms had full amenities and were spotless; the linens and bedding were so clean and comfy; the decor of the yurt was wonderfully eclectic and reflected the rich cultural heritage of the yurt; the rest of the grounds were well manicured. In the morning, at our request, Richard & Stephanie arranged for a wonderful yoga teacher, Laura, to teach an outdoor Vinyasa yoga class by the pool. The experience of doing sun salutations outdoors under the warm sun with the sound of babbling water close by combined with Laura's gentle, soothing voice was an unforgettable yoga experience. One of my girlfriends opted for the optional on-site massage (held in a specially appointed outdoor massage yurt overlooking the property) and she could not stop raving about the quality and skill of Elaine, the masseuse whom Richard & Stephanie arranged. Richard & Stephanie's hospitality experience was apparent in their offerings: they've truly thought of every way to make their guests comfortable. Their extensive food and hospitality experience was especially obvious in the lavish breakfasts they prepared for us to enjoy pool-side. They used full place settings, white tablecloths, and white vintage napkins. One day, we had a fruit platter (artfully arranged by Richard into a palm tree scene), eggs benedict, home potatoes, and asparagus, and eggs florentine for our vegetarian girlfriend. The next day, we had creme brûlée french toast, a curry vegetable frittata, and an assorted selection of meats. The food was absolutely restaurant-quality and delicious. While we lounged by the pool all day, Richard & Stephanie would check in with us from time to time to see if we needed anything. Their omnipresence struck the perfect balance between always being available any time we needed something to respecting our privacy. One of our girlfriends accidentally sprained her ankle the first night and Richard & Stephanie graciously supplied us with crutches, a bandage wrap, and an ice pack. Another girlfriend wasn't feeling well and they had ibuprofen available for her. We experienced unexpected rainy weather and unbenownst to us, Richard retrieved our yoga mats and placed them in safekeeping so that they wouldn't be soaked by the rain. Again, we experienced a truly magical weekend in Colfax and are so grateful to Richard, Stephanie, Mosel, and Sula (their 2 wonderfully behaved, friendly dogs) for opening their SPLENDID home to us. This property is truly special beyond words. Experience it for yourself!

  • Stephanie and Richard are true hosts that embody hospitality. From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, they made us feel at home and welcome. When we forgot about the time due to how relaxing the place was, Richard made sure to bring us some food so that we didn't sleep hungry! And then we had the delight of having a gourmet brunch for us, poolside! There's so much to say about the place... from the lights at night, that made the whole garden and area enchanting (think bioluminescent plankton in the trees sort of deal), to the little porch outside the yurt door for cozy morning sunrises, to falling asleep in the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in-- you have to be here! Stephanie and Elaine also did the most wonderful lomi lomi massage... I'm not positive, but I believe she was very very generous with her time. We came on recommendation and that recommendation did not disappoint at all. The Mongolian Yurt is so cozy and you feel like you're out in a different world. But not only that, Richard and Stephanie are the most wonderful people to experience that with.

  • This has been said by others, but Five Stars is truly not enough for this amazing couple and their incredible Yurt! My wife and four of our close friends spent New Year's eve at Richard and Stephanie's Yurt and it was one of the memorable part our California road trip. We were welcomed to champagne and wine, an incredible plate of cheese and meats, baklava, and many more details that were well thought out by two of the nicest and most hospitable hosts we've ever met. We loved spending our time at the pool, the hot tub, playing giant chess, sitting around the fire pit, and preparing food in the Park Model. We were all treated to the most delicious and filling breakfasts each morning (coming from a foodie, this truly was a five star breakfast) The Yurt is definitely one of the highlights of the weekend incredible the pictures really don't do it justice. The two beds were extremely comfortable and the decor is amazing. We were all comfortable the entire trip and felt at home on their property, with amazing views of the stars at night and warm sun during the day. It was also a pleasure chatting about Chinese history in the area with Richard and Stephanie's home made scones and creme were to perfect. If you value unique experiences and need a good retreat, head to Yurt in Colfax!

  • After you have used Air BnB for awhile, you learn to read between the lines of reviews, which are often less than fully illuminating about the experience a place has to offer. No reading between the lines needed for THE Yurt! This spot is part resort, part camping, and all great. It's an expansive, contained, quirky, lovely, unexpected, charming, eclectic, and unusual get away. I was in town for work, and very much regretted that I was not able to stay for a few successive days to unwind. Richard and Stephanie are authentic, amazing hosts with nice dogs, fabu travel stories, and interesting histories. I am still swooning over Stephanie's hand tempered chocolate covered strawberries, Richard's amazing breakfast (complete with fruit art), and my 11 pm break in the hammock on a warm night, looking up through the trees at the sky. If you are going to check it out, be sure to stay for a few days and use it as a base to discover the amazing region: wineries, hiking, boating, skiing, (URL HIDDEN) all nearby.

  • I stayed for two nights as an escape from the city and it was magical. The weather was hot but the pool was spotlessly clean and cool with shade. After a soothing massage by Stephy that included heated river rocks I sipped sun tea provided by my hosts and listened to music on my portable cd player. The yurt sits on a beautifully landscaped hillside on the edge of town and I couldn't see any neighbors but it's not totally quiet. There is some freeway sound, the occassional train, a lot of bird activity etc. It was a welcome change from city noise. It's a great way to get a feel for actually living in a mountain town. There are also three rivers and a large lake within riding or driving distance.(URL HIDDEN)rode my motorcycle from San Francisco up the delta road and Richard let me use a cover to keep it out of the sun. These are rider-friendly hosts. I parked the bike until I left and had plenty of room inside the yurt to spread out my stuff. It still surprises me how much stuff I can pack in one bag. At night I relaxed on the yurt deck and saw nine falling stars with just my eyes the sky was so clear. In the morning I saw a doe and a small and frail fawn grazing on the fallen nectarines as I sipped my fresh ground coffee. The breakfast was delicious, a kind of scrambled egg concoction and the fresh fruits were perfectly ripe: mangoes, plums, and a short and fat kind of bananna. There was just the right mixture of privacy and safety. The bed was very comfortable and so was the daybed poolside and the wicker loveseat on the deck. There's enough pillows to start a pillow war!(URL HIDDEN)used the jacuzzi and the outside shower without any glitches but favored the pool since it was hot and breezy. No mosquito bites but please be clear that what is offered is luxury camping in a resort setting. I almost forgot the hammock that sits right inside a grove of small trees. It was so relaxing I hardly explored the town but it was easy to shop for drinks and food--about a five to ten minute walk. Richard and Stephy were very knowlegable about the area and even offered to let me use their kayak on Rollins lake nearby but I was just too comfortable to want to leave(URL HIDDEN)

  • Richard and Stephanie's Mongolian yurt was an amazing and unforgettable experience! As a single female traveler I felt safe and secure on the property. When Richard and Stephanie found out I was coming up alone they installed an extra lock on the yurt's front door. They were always accessible and never hovered. A nice bottle of wine and hand dipped chocolate covered strawberries awaited on the table when I arrived. The yurt itself was something out of a dream. Stephanie has it beautifully and meticulously decorated with treasures from her trips around the world. Once on the property you have access to the refreshing pool and the quirky park mobile. I was greeted with a wonderful breakfast both days I stayed with Stephanie and Richard. I had a wonderful peaceful and restful time I look forward to returning in the near future

  • The highlight of a vagabonding weekend through the foothills and high country of the Sierra Nevada! A place to fall in love with. In a twist of fortune we stumbled across the fairy tale abode of Karen and Jeremy's when deciding over dinner in Nevada City not to head back home down the hill but to try a last minute AirBnB search for a place to stay on the way to the high mountains. We arrived long after dark to a beautifully dark and silent place, with a few pathway lights twinkling their way through the seemingly enchanted forest. Karen and Jeremy made us feel home immediately. The studio was clean, beds comfy, bathroom and kitchen nicely appointed. We are outdoor people and enjoyed the option to sleep with screened windows and door wide open (we could have left them closed). In the morning we were treated to a wonderfully delicious breakfast. Our hosts made themselves available for engaging conversation and helped us pick a beautiful spot for a high country day hike.

  • What a beautiful, tranquil, comfortable getaway! Karen was an absolute gem of a host. You can feel her wholesome good nature, attention to detail, relaxed environment from start to finish. The cozy space was well equipped with everything one would need. From all your coffee fixings to towels, cooking options, the finest organic soaps etc. The unit was squeaky clean, private & relaxing. We didn't get to utilize the charming sauna but looking forward to that next visit. Karen advised us that bear river is about a mile away down the street from the property. This is a convenient fun activity for families, couples or singles. I can't say enough about Karen! She has a way of making you feel at home yet giving as much privacy as desired. At the same time she was there for our every question or need. 10 stars for the host and tranquil getaway.

  • This place is absolutely beautiful. Such a great property with so many interesting touches. I felt right at home. Karen and her husband are incredibly welcoming. They invited us in for breakfast and showed me even more of their beautiful space. Such welcoming and positive energy - I was loathe to leave!

    Jordana2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The area is amazingly close to a wonderful camp site. That being said, the host's husband also works at a camp site, and the reigonal area is littered with beautiful scenery. Their own home is absolutely beautiful, as is their studio and cabin. It is just brilliant scenery in every direction, and for a city getaway you cannot get any better than this.

  • Karen and Jordan have cultivated a gorgeous and relaxing place to rest and rejuvenate in a beautiful spot in the woods near the bear river! very grateful for their generous hospitality and for sharing their wonderful spirit that is rooted in connections with the earth

  • Pros: beautiful location in a quiet forest close to the Yuba, full amenities and comfortable beds, whimsical and hand-crafted decorations, kind and friendly hosts (who also know how to give you your space!), awesome electronic drum kit, extremely accommodating and response to requests, chill relaxed vibe, interesting conversation, amazing value at the price! Cons: NONE

  • Donna was wonderful in welcoming us and helping to make our stay as perfect as it could be. We had about 20 family members there at the most during our 3 night stay, and the cottage was spacious, inclusive of all amenities, and a literal home away from home. The kids had a blast playing indoor hide-and-seek every night, and got their fill of movie-watching in the theater. The music room was well-loved by everyone, as well as the various games and generous dining area. It was so nice to be able to host brunch where everyone could sit in the same room, plus listen to a family concert from the seating area. We had almost everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare for an event we were hosting off-site for 50-60 people. The ample room in there and the plentiful cooking equipment were more than enough to meet our needs. It made maneuvering about very easy with sometimes up to 8 of us working hard on cake decorating, casseroles, and more. Early morning and evening strolls were refreshing, with a gorgeous view of the sunset each night from the deck or the little swing near the basketball court. The rooms were comfortable, and there were enough extras that we could have had many more join us if needed.

  • This home is an amazing spot to train or regroup! We fully immersed our west coast leadership in a 4-day training in a unique and outside the box environment. What the retreat center allowed us to deliver was a comprehensive, team energizing and rewarding team experience. Donna was communicative and guided us in early on. Once we were on site the care taker Sallie was more than helpful, took good care of us and she went way beyond anyone’s normal expectations. We experienced a challenge having our equipment picked up and Sallie stepped in to help solve it and then she helped me load 3 huge cases of equipment into a truck. This is a special place and my team and I will be back!

    Julie2016-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • The house is big and really good for a big group or family reunion. The host was easy to communicate and fast responding. We were really enjoying our stay at the house and will be back.

    Evgenia2017-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • The moment that we arrived, we were welcomed by Sallie with a nice quick tour of the house. The house had more than enough space for my large family reunion considering we had about 40 people. There are many things to do around the house and everything you need is close by within driving distance. The karoke machine was a big hit with my family. Donna had really great recommendations of things to do around the house. She answers all of my questions and concerns in a quickly manner. Love this place! Would definitely book this place again. Thanks Donna!

    Gao2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for our 35-40 person group. A lot of rooms and a lot to do. We enjoyed our stay very much!

    Imani2017-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • The place is awesome for families with kids or if you need to hold a meditation retreat or even a group / family get together. Its a nice place. Excellent mini theater. Nice Karoke room. Donna & her husband are very responsive and warm hearted people. They were very responsive to our requests and guided us all the way. The care taker or the property manager also was an excellent lady. In all it was a very pleasant experience. No complaints.

    Prakash2016-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Donna's place is the best of both worlds - family home warmth and big place with facilities that a more traditional 'center,' run by a business would provide. It's in a beautiful setting on a large piece of property with enough room for people to go sit and gaze at the views alone or talk quietly with another person or throw a frisbee or ball. There is a hot tub that's big enough for 6 and a sauna. Both appear to be new and working very well. There are lots of pots and pans and utensils. There is a game room, a fire pit, a gazebo. I mean, really.... There's everything!!! It's close by Colfax. I went to Sierra Market every day (< 2 miles) and was pleasantly surprised to find everything I needed for the group of Bay Area folks I was up there with. Donna's description covers all this. I just needed to say it because it is all quite wonderful. I would like to emphasize how homey this place feels. There are family pictures and signs and affirmations of love. Donna was super responsive and helpful whenever I texted or called for the entire week, which was during her holidays. Don't hesitate. You will be very happy here. Thanks Donna.

    Leslie2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second consecutive year that we have had a family reunion at Donna's place. We had a great time there. We played a lot of ping pong and games. The dining area is nice and big and accommodates well for all family meals and activities. Donna is a very gracious person and very attentive to all the needs of the guests and I like that a lot. We would enjoy coming back here for the next annual reunion.

Are you coming from the Bay Area on your way to Lake Tahoe, Reno or the Sierra Nevada Mountains? Leave the evening before and spend the night in Colfax. Next morning you will have only a short distance to go to get to your destination. Colfax is located on Interstate 80, halfway between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Colfax is also close to Grass Valley and Nevada City. Better yet, my house is within easy walking distance from the Amtrak rail road station.
The cozy downstairs bedroom and the spacious bathroom with shower are totally separated from the rest of the house and accessible from the outside with a numbered lock, allowing you to come and go as you please. The queen-size bed has really soft, 100 percent natural cotton sheets and there is a big stack of fluffy towels in the bathroom waiting to spoil you. The deck right outside the bedroom is very private and yours to enjoy during the warmer months of the year. You are welcome to roam in the garden. There are many places to sit and enjoy nature or to contemplate life.
Colfax is a quaint small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are a couple of good restaurants in town, but only a few are open on weekends. My house is on a very quiet cul de sac set in a beautiful garden setting.
  • Ingrid was a wonderful host. She has a lovely home and a cozy place to spend the night. She generously made us a delicious dinner and breakfast, and we had lovely conversations about our life experiences. Ingrid is a warm and welcoming person. We look forward to staying with her again soon.

  • Ingrid was a wonderful and gracious host. She was very accommodating and responsive in terms of communications prior to our arrival. Her home was cozy and comfortable, and she made us a delicious breakfast as well as other homemade snacks. We really enjoyed meeting her and would recommend her home for anyone traveling to the Colfax area.

    Susan2017-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ingrid was absolutely incredible. My boyfriend and I got to spend some time with her and chat about marathons (the reason we had booked a night with her.) She offered to cook for us, hold our food in her fridge, and so fun to speak with. Staying with Ingrid was everything we wanted and more. We can't wait to go back and stay in her cozy little home. Thank you for the memories and stories Ingrid! We will see you soon! xoxo, Kacey and Michael

    Kacey2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Ingrid's place is an amazing stay. It is immaculately clean, and filled with amentities - even fresh flowers and home made apple chips (which my son loved so much I didn't get to taste any). The space is very warm and comfortable and beautifully decorated. It is also very private with its own large bathroom.

    Tao2017-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ingrid's apartment is a quiet, peaceful retreat nestled on a hillside in the tiny town of Colfax. Her hospitality is exceptional. She has prepared the room with everything you might need to be comfortable - the heated mattress pad was luxurious. The space is full of natural light with a view of the private outdoor patio and lots of trees. The bathroom is spacious and beautiful. Perfect for a leisurely morning shower. Ingrid prepared a delicious dinner on my first night - grilled chicken with deliciously seasoned quinoa & vegetables. She makes her own spice mix, and it's amazing. We shared stories, and I wish I could stay longer to hear more stories! She is an incredible woman with many talents and skills. I am inspired by her self-sufficient, adventurous lifestyle. Cheers, Ingrid! See you on my next visit to Colfax.

  • We took a July 4th holiday trip to Tahoe, and Colfax was the first night. Echoing the other reviews, the room and ensuite bathroom were comfortable and nicely outfitted, with a nice view of green forest and house gardens. WiFi, no TV, and a breakfast of German apple pancakes with interesting conversation and local travel recommendations with Ingrid. Highly recommended!

  • Ingrid was (and is!) a lovely and fantastic host. The apartment was the perfect size for a much needed quiet-time getaway for me and my dog, Potato. The neighborhood was quiet with lovely trees all around. I enjoyed sitting on the deck just outside the room drinking coffee and reading or just enjoying the sunshine. Her entire yard is fenced in, so I felt comfortable letting Potato run around all day. I got to enjoy her delightful apple pancakes as well as other delicious meals she prepared in "Ingrid's Kitchen". I also very much enjoyed our conversations. I am definitely hoping to come back to visit her again!

  • Ingrid's apartment far exceeded my expectations. It's private and nestled in the back of the property surrounded by trees. I was there to get away from work and the business of life and found solitude in the hiking trails and river nearby. It was truly rejuvenating. thank you Ingrid! I look forward to future stays.

The guest cottage at Stone's Throw Farm is a perfect place to relax and recharge in the country or to use as a base camp for your all-season adventures in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Well-placed access point to river country, hiking, biking, and South Lake Tahoe resorts. This charming bungalow offers a vaulted ceiling, privacy, and a full kitchen: great for short or longer term stays. Guests are invited to learn more about the surrounding organic farm, and even participate if they want!
Set on a working organic vegetable farm, this private cottage is a wonderful retreat from the city, just 2.5 hours from San Francisco and 45 min from Sacramento. It's perfect for 2 people, and can hold one more adult or child with the sofa bed. Historic downtown Colfax (served daily by Amtrak's California Zephyr train) is just minutes away by car or foot, and the cultural riches of both Grass Valley and Nevada City are just 30 minutes down the road. Rivers, mountains, hiking trails, and ski resorts are all located nearby and we're happy to make recommendations!
Colfax is a charming railroad/gold rush town just off of highway 80. It has a full sized grocery store and a Starbuck's, but also boasts top notch eating spots, antique stores, and a new independent music/art venue. Try Café Luna for delicious burgers and Mexican cuisine. Wood-fired pizza is definitely worth the stop at Pizzaiolo. The Colfax Theater (URL HIDDEN) just reopened and plans a full roster of music, dance, and performance. Hiking and swimming at the American river is just a short drive down into the canyon, and the majestic Yuba river is only 45 min from here. We can help direct you to our favorite hiking trails and other cool sites in the area.
  • This is a beautiful place off the beaten path but close enough to Grass Valley and Colfax that you can get supplies. I would recommend it highly for anyone looking for a little retreat-- it's super quiet and relaxing.

  • To be thoroughly recommended. Quite and very rural.

  • We really enjoyed our night at the cottage. It definitely was peaceful and relaxing. It is very nice inside. We also really enjoyed sitting outside on the porch with all the huge trees in view. We took a nice walk into the cute town of Colfax, too. We would definitely recommend staying here!

  • Steven, Tim, and the entire farm family made us feel super welcome. The cottage was clean and well stocked. The price was good and felt like a good value to us. And it was a very unique AirBnb experience for us and our 1 year old son. He loved visiting the chickens each morning! Thanks for the memorable stay.

    Matthew2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a cozy, quiet place to stay! It's hidden away down a small road behind a manual gate. We were greeted upon arrival by Tim who made sure we knew the details of the place and offered suggestions for places for dinner and drinks. The scenery definitely adds to the experience as the farm's grounds are beautiful, and the cottage offers its own charm. There are plenty of windows for those who love natural light (and plenty of shades for those who don't). The open layout was well presented. The lack of city lights and lack of electronics makes for a great night of rest. Being able to request a veggie box to take home is a nice touch and adds to the charm. Overall, our stay and the place were all very pleasant, and we'd love to return for another getaway.

    Megan2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place! The cottage is just very comfortable, clean, cozy, and charming. The location feels quiet and remote even though it is short drive from the Interstate. The recommendations for the area were fantastic. What a great stay! I'll be back!

  • What a fantastic place! And so beautifully de otated. Our family enjoyed the wonderful retreat here during our nieces graduation. The place is stocked with every amenity you might need. Our family loved playing the board games late into the night. There are tvs but with all the fun we were having we didnt use them except for the easy listening music channels. The hosts provided a lovely fruit basket on artival. The kitchen had everything we needed. The washer and dryer were very handy after our hikes at the bear river. Check in and out were super easy. You will not regret choosing this place. Look no morr!

  • This cottage was comfortable, roomy and very clean! It contained everything a family might need for a weekend away. Our stay was during chilly November and the multiple options for keeping the cottage warm worked very well. This is definitely a place I recommend and will keep bookmarked for later! Thanks, again!

  • Jamie was a very accommodating host, who strived to make our stay as comfortable as possible. She knew that we were desperate to have a place to stay in the area, and allowed us into her home even though they were still in the process of renovating. Her home was tidy, neat, and full of potential! It was overall, a great experience for an affordable price, and I would definitely stay there again! If you are looking for a quaint, comfortable home in the middle of the scenic woods, this is it.

  • Jamie & Jerry were lovely hosts! Highway 80 was closed, and it was an excellent option to stay at their place in Colfax. They responded so quickly. Their house is nestled in the woods and is very cozy, warm and clean. Thanks so much!

  • I had a great time living at Jamie and jerry's cabin for three months over the summer. I couldn't have asked for a better place to live at. Their cabin in the woods is very cute, clean and comfortable. Both Jamie and Jerry are very friendly people and made me feel very welcome. They were also very helpful and open to feedback and were very quick in responding to any concerns I had. Their house is a great spot for vacationing or relaxing. I would definitely recommend others to stay here! Thanks for a great experience Jamie and Jerry!

  • The house has been great! Very clean and nicely decorated. It feels like a horse in the city but outside is full of nature and wildlife which is very pretty and relaxing. Jamie's garden is very nice and she definitely put alot of work into it. Overall a great stay and she's very understanding and willing to accommodate my needs and is a person of integrity. Will recommend!

  • What a lovely, cozy place to stay, especially on a rainy weekend! The wood burning stove was a lovely treat and the bedroom was beautiful and welcoming. A wonderful place, thank you for letting me enjoy it.

    Theresa2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a nice slice of heaven for us. We pulled up to a cabin in the woods, beautifully placed amongst tons of trees, a river close by, perfect amount of quiet for us city dwellers, and the smiling, helpful faces of Jamie and Jerry. The home was cozy and well thought out for a "retreat in the wood" type of experience. Jamie and Jerry gave us great tips on how to maximize our stay. The bedroom was bright and comfortable. Our favorite part of the stay was the large deck outside the house-- we had tea and cookies on the deck daily and felt so grateful to hear the bird songs, rustling of the leaves, and feel the beautiful sunshine! This home was comfortable, clean and just rustic enough for a fully woodsy experience. We saw a fox and a skunk and heard many other animals when we walked outside at night--we enjoyed the laughter and adrenaline of respectfully coming face to face with the wildlife. We did feel safe and content at all times. This was a charming, cozy and inviting experience and would recommend this place to stay to anyone looking for a retreat in the woods.

  • The host was very accommodating. The room was nice and very clean, as well as the bath. The house was lovely, and nestled in a very lush area, lots of trees and wildlife.Their little dog, Buzz, was very sweet and friendly. Milk Ranch Road is very remote, so be prepared for that, especially finding your way at night.

  • When we arrived at the Hidden Gem we had been having a pretty rough evening. We were tired, hungry and We'd gotten a little lost but one phone call to Amy sorted us right out. Driving up to the gate Amy greeted us with a hearty hello and smile. After a quick but thorough tour we were settled right into the tidy trailer. My little family of four Was very comfy for dinner and a good nights Sleep. It is important to keep in mind the more rustic nature of this place, and if that's your style than the Hidden Gem is for you. Just make sure You have a flashlight. The cell service was spotty and the wifi weak, but those things are not the attraction here. Unfortunately we didn't have the time to enjoy the lap pool, or spend much time in the beautiful garden but my daughter got to pick delicious blackberries in the morning with Amy and she gave a bag of them to us for the road. We would have enjoyed a longer stay. All in all a comfortable unique stay with a gracious host.

  • My husband and I had a wonderful time at Amy's! The location was very peaceful and quiet. In the morning, we were greeted by the birds while having breakfast with Amy, outside the RV. We had a wonderful time chatting and sharing travel stories. The RV was very clean and tidy. Everything was ready for us to spend the night. Amy had coffee and snacks ready for us. Amy was always very welcoming and commutative. Her recommendations either for places to eat or scenic routes to explore were fantastic!

  • It was a very good stay in the RV, quiet, warm, comfortable. It has everything we need, snacks and beers were prepared in the refrigerator. • Kathryn's place is a great place to stay if you are visiting Nevada City and Grass Valley. Twenty minutes by car to either destination, you will soon be in the middle of the action. Her three acres is quiet and beautiful. The apartment is one bedroom with kitchen and bath, and has a separate entrance. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking with pots and pans, dishes and utensils. Our conversations with Kathryn were always pleasant. She was more than willing to share ideas about what to do in the area. We would definitely return here. While staying here we saw little tiny frogs, tiger lilies, bigger frogs and hawks.

  • Kathryn's in-law unit was great! It is on the side of the detached garage opposite the main house. This was our first Airbnb and we were so happy with our choice. The fridge and cupboards were stocked with thoughtful food choices that we totally were not expecting! Hot cocoa that our son loved, coffee (we brought our own since we didn't know, but awesome!), half and half, even eggs and toast and a few apples! The unit was nicely appointed and clean, bathroom has obviously been remodeled recently and looked very nice and we enjoyed nice warm showers with great water pressure. Our 5 year old son used the blow up mattress which was a hit. We didn't have time to watch any TV but Kathryn had some cool DVD's. We did have time to play a couple board games that she had on the bookshelf, which our son thought was very cool. Overall we had a great stay and will be back again in the future!

The front door had a keyless entry lock on it which made getting into the house really. I would love to stay at this home again in the future.

  • My stay was amazing. The house was awesome, the front, back, and side yards were incredibly spacious, and the neighborhood was great. Overall a truly first class experience. Would definitely come back again. Would definitely recommend.

  • Beautiful home in the mountains with plenty of room to celebrate my father's 80th birthday and Thanksgiving. Our hosts were easy to communicate with and left us their home spotless and all decorated for the holidays. Even with a houseful of people, there was always a quiet place to go with three living areas and lots of outside chairs to enjoy the view. The gourmet kitchen was well stocked and huge so no one got in each other's way preparing Thanksgiving. My family was very impressed that I found such a perfect place for our family reunion.

    Robin2016-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Daryl was great! He was accessible if I needed anything via msg and responded promptly. This was the perfect house for us. A group of stayed here while competing in a local Triathlon. We felt very comfortable and had plenty of space to ourselves even with group of people. The property was gorgeous and had we more time, we would have spent time outside gazing at the stars. The house was nice a quiet, a little ways away from town but not to far that we couldn't run into town to grab more supplies. I would definitely stay here again!

  • This was the best overall AirBnb experience we've had. Meg & Lucas were friendly, responsive, clear communicators. The cottage (not to mention the overall property) is gorgeous, comfortable, and well-appointed. Everything about the stay was easy and pleasant. Only minor issue - internet was kinda slow, but you're not going out there to just spend time on the computer/netflix anyway, and we were able to use our mobile hotspots easily enough. All in all, we can't wait to go back!

    Saran2017-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • Meg and Lucas's cottage was a beautiful retreat on our trip to Gold Country. The decor of the cottage was just lovely, and so very much thought clearly went into making our stay both comfortable and convenient. The area felt pleasantly rural, while still being convenient to surrounding towns and sites. Staying here was a wonderful, peaceful getaway that I would love to do again.

    Rebecca2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay in this spacious, clean, adorable cottage!

    Katy2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 2 nights at Meg and Lucas’ cottage on a warm and sunny weekend in the fall. We booked this trip for our family last minute. The photos of the house and property were appealing and the region has a lot to offer. But reality really exceeded our expectations! The quiet rural setting, the very welcoming, comfortable, and clean rooms, a convenient kitchen that had everything we needed to fix meals at home, lots of light, many thoughtful touches for guests, everything made this weekend a great experience. Also many tips were listed in a binder that were helpful and spot-on for our days out exploring the area. It’s very close to Nevada City, the Yuba River, Scotts Flat Lake, etc. We’d definitely love to be back for a week-long stay and see more of the region.

Our place is about a 20 minute drive to Grass Valley/Nevada City or Auburn, within an hour you can be skiing or visit Sacramento, less than 2 hours you can be in Reno, Tahoe north shore, or San Francisco. We are 10 minutes from Hiway 80 and 10 minutes from Hiway 49. You'll love our place because of the quiet, rural setting. You can watch the wildlife stroll through, or just relax in the quiet atmosphere.
This apartment is above our two car garage. It has one bedroom with a comfortable queen bed. There is a roll away that would be suitable for a child, but not an average adult. There is NO kitchen in the unit, but there is a small refrigerator, microwave, and keurig. The large bathroom has a shower only, no tub. There is a very cozy propane stove for heat or for ambiance, and an air conditioner. The unit is very open and bright. It has very nice views of the pond and the hills around us.
The foothills of the mountains are a lovely area. There are many historical places to visit in the towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City. They also have many small, locally run restaurants, shops, and entertainment. Many activities occur during the year at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, including the Fair in August and the Draft Horse Classic in September. The location of Sutters Mill, where gold was discovered is about an hours drive away. Sacramento is about an hours drive to wonderful restaurants, and of course the capitol of California. If you like snow skiing, it is about an hour away. Reno and Tahoe can be reached within a couple of hours. There are several wineries within a short driving time from us. We are very centrally located for easy day trips to many places.
  • It's a working farm on a pond, and it's a nice apartment. Besides some issues with water temperature in the shower, no complaints :) - it was specious and like described. Host was trying to be super helpful and we liked the animals . It's about 20 min to anything so tea, snacks and drinks in the room were helpful

  • This place is beautiful and very clean. Lee is very nice and the property is very serene and realxing.

    Jessica2017-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Lee were super good communicators and the check in/check out process was very simple. The suite is as described: very spacious and clean! The bed was very comfortable and little kitchenette area of the suite was useful. Lee's homemade cookies added a nice touch for our stay. We enjoyed our stay at their quiet and relaxing property very much. :)

  • Jim and Lee are fabulous hosts. The space is very lovely and it is apparent that they both have taken a lot of pride in making sure that guests are welcomed, comfortable, and at ease. My two children, seven and five, loved seeing baby chickens, sheep and ducks. Jim and Lee welcomed us into their home and provided amazing farm fresh meals in the morning. All of the furnishings are beautiful. We loved sitting in the deck overlooking the pond, taking in the beautiful surroundings. The space is very fresh and inviting, and feels like a beach house in the country. It is very quiet, serene and a wonderful place to relax. I slept wonderfully in their queen size bed. The location is perfect for easy access to Grass Valley and Auburn. It is also a very quick drive to I 80. We absolutely loved our time there and were very thankful for such gracious hosts. I would recommend this Airbnb to anyone! We will definitely be back!

  • Place is very nice wish we could have enjoyed more but went up for work

    Gilbert 2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to stay! It's not hard to get to at all, but it's off the main road enough that it feels perfectly secluded. The room overlooks the lovely pond, around which sheep and chickens meander in the grass. The hosts are just lovely, very accommodating and helpful. My only regret was that my trip coincided with a big rain storm so I couldn't walk the property much, but that's a just a reason to go back sometime! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a cozy spot to unwind in Grass Valley/Nevada County!

    Steve2017-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • There is awesome place for relaxing in a nature!! Jim and Lee also cool and very nice person!! Love that place!

    Daehee2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lee and Jim are great folk with a very nice studio above their garage in a secluded, very peaceful area. As quiet and relaxing as it is, there are stores, restaurants and necessities available within a short drive. Their farm animals are a nice touch that adds to the charm. Mornings were a treat with roosters serenading anyone within miles. I loved it!

  • I'm so in love with these people. Mia and Tom have their fingers on the pulse of what makes life joyful. I admire their ability to live and I'm grateful to have absorbed some of their remarkable energy.

  • Mia met us with a bottle of wine that she had decanted for us despite the fact we were 2 hours late from city traffic! She made us feel incredibly relaxed on her beautiful property!

  • Mia was a great host! Very responsive and open to adjustment when mine and my husbands schedule went a little crazy. She was very excited to see us and show us around. Overall very welcoming and accommodating. Would definitely look into staying again. It was quite the perfect mini vacation.

  • The pictures don't do it justice. This place is amazing! Private studio on first floor with private entrance. Spacious, clean, well equipped, comfy bed, indoor & outdoor shower, beautiful view of the river valley. Everything one wants for a cozy, quiet, relaxing getaway. Riverfront property with the Bear river running along side. Kayaks, hammock, horse shoes to name a few of the activities. Easy to find along I-80. Mia and her husband were the perfect hosts. They love life and are passionate about many things with many wonderful stories. We really enjoyed the evening conversation and drinks.

    Spencer2016-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • It was a wonderful stay at Mia's place. The property was a perfectly located one amidst nature with the river at the backyard. Mia greeted us with a bottle of wine and also helped us with our bbq preparation. She also picked vegetables from her garden for our salad. Her hospitality was one of the best we ve had in many of our previous airbnb experiences, and so was her property. Would definitely suggest this property to anyone looking for a quiet getaway for the weekend.

  • Mia and her husband were so amazing to us during our stay in their amazing river front room!!! They were so sweet and welcoming right when we got there. They met us with refreshments in hand and went over the room to make sure we were comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with anything you could need...Mia even took the time to grind us fresh coffee! The view from the room was so very beautiful and the grounds were out of a dream! Mia's garden was so fun to roam through and she welcomes you actually picking and using any of the veggies you would like. They even set up a little sitting area right on the beach of the river where we spent a lot of our time just relaxing. Money well spent and such a nice treat...we hope to come back soon!!!

    Christina2016-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Mia welcomed us so warmly. She has a wonderful personal touch and made us feel at home. The studio apartment and natural setting, the well set-up spa and riverside all made for special get-away.

    Marc2016-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was our favorite Airbnb to date! We loved the location to the river and being able to lounge by the beach area and just listen to river flowing by. Mia has thought of everything one could need to thoroughly enjoy this outdoor paradise. The studio itself was clean and comfortable, and had everything we could ask for to enjoy our stay. The bottle of wine on arrival was icing on the cake. We definitely can't wait to come back and spend more time enjoying the river!

  • Barrie and Tod have an incredible house with floor to ceiling views of majestic trees and the lake just a few steps away. Tod was a great remote host who checked in with me throughout the weekend to make sure everything was going smoothly! My dog had the best time running in their thoughtfully provided dog run and we had a lovely time hiking the trails together. We saw deer in abundance the whole weekend and an owl serenaded us at night. We were there for stormy weather - rain and snow, and nothing could have been more relaxing. High points: they had a great dvd movie selection, the softest sheets and one of the more comfortable beds I've ever slept on! The kitchen is well appointed for real cooking - it was the most glamourous off the grid experience I have ever had! If you're bringing friends along they have two amazing leather couches that provide additional sleeping space - I can't wait to return for summer weather!

    Jabu2012-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tod and Barrie have created a truly unique spot in the woods in Grass Valley. This house is secluded and a great place for a quiet getaway. The property is set among a beautiful stand of very tall trees with a nice view of the water from the deck. We had a great time here in December, doing local hikes and a day trip for skiing in Tahoe. Highly recommended. Tod and Barrie were very responsive to inquiries and there is a very helpful guide in the house that answers any questions you might have.

    Will2015-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful views from every angle of the deck, very secluded, private trail down to the lake, what's not to love?

  • This place is amazing! Just out in the wild enough but close enough to town to allow for going out or grabbing groceries without fuss. The location is perfect, easy to get to and very safe. The house itself is just the right size. Clean, well layed out and simple. Comfy bed, great entertainment and TV system. Great kitchen. Amazing deck that you can grill or just lounge on. Great view of the lake. One of the best airbnb experiences I have had yet and exactly what I was looking for at the time. You will not be disappointed!

  • This place was awesome! The only regret, not staying longer.

    Windy2015-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at the house is like visiting the birds in the trees. An incredibly scenic, indoor/outdoor space that opens up to the lake. Chicago Park and Grass Valley is easily accessible via car. Debbie was very easy to communicate with, and their guidebook to the house and the area is extensive. We had a wonderful stay!

  • What an amazing stay. Everything was idyllic - from great directions, easy check in, awesome location and eco-friendly serenity - we had an amazing stay. The hike down to the lake was a bit slippery and tough in hot weather, next time I'll remember to bring water sandals and it will be perfect. Also, great spot to bring your dogs. Thanks for the great experience we had!

Tranquil ranch setting just 15 minutes to Grass Valley or Auburn, 20 minutes to Nevada City about an hour to Sacramento, Forest Hills or Folsom. Come enjoy your own private cabin and be sure to bring your friendly dogs to play with our ranch dogs. Outdoor activities abound with trails, hiking, biking, 5 minutes to Bear river access. There's lots to enjoy or just relax on your own patio. Lake Tahoe is only an hour away for a great day trip.
THE SPACE - Cozy and comfortable, about 400 sq ft, new furnishings, perfect for a two or three good friends. If you have a second couple and don't want to squeeze two people into a twin bed we also have a travel trailer we'll rent out for sleeping only; it also has a queen bed. You will notice how quiet it is here and how many stars you can see at night. BEDROOM - Has a queen size real mattress. I'm giving you fair warning that many of our guests sleep in late due to the quiet setting and comfortable bed. KITCHEN - Mini kitchen with 2 burner hot plate, microwave, coffee maker, small fridge, sink, dishes and some cooking essentials. There are also paper plates because you're on vacation and who wants to do dishes, right? COUCH/SLEEPER - A Serta convertible couch that folds down into a twin bed. The couch has spring coils and batting and we've added a foam egg crate topper for added comfort. I've slept on this and it's comfy. It's the size of a twin bed and while you can fit two adults, they'll need to like to cuddle. It's best suited for one adult or a couple of kids. CLIMATE CONTROL - Separate AC units in the main room and bed room. Electric fireplace in the main room, separate wall heaters for the bed room and bath room. WI-FI - yes we have it but it can be spotty at times, remember we live in the country. There isn't a TV in the guest house, we figure you're here to relax but if you want to binge watch Game of Thrones, please bring a tablet or laptop. PARKING - for your vehicle right in front of the guest house
We live in a HOA on private roads. To get to our home you will travel on a couple of private roads that say you can only pass with permission. Consider permission granted.
  • The Flying Pig Ranch is a wonderful place to unplug. Brian and Nita are friendly hosts as well as Zelda and Gunther the four-legged furry ones . The cabin is clean and simple with cute decor.  Lots of space around the cabin to hang out. And if you're a hiker there are hills galore! I loved my experience!

    Shaun2017-10-12T00:00:00Z

Retreat to a beautiful, secluded Gold Country getaway with views of the High Sierra Mountains and the American River. Relax in the sun by our large swimming pond! The perfect place for small corporate or group retreats, or your next family vacation!
OUR PROPERTY is uniquely located on a ridge with expansive views of the American river and the majestic sierra mountains. The house is peacefully secluded and, though you would never know it, is completely off grid. It is powered by solar panels, with a backup generator. We are located 10 minutes from I-80 on a 3 mile long dirt road. Right in between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe THE HOUSE has two private bedrooms, one with a queen bed, one with a full bed. The large upstairs loft includes one queen and one full bed along with a fold out couch bed. The house can comfortably sleep ten on beds with the possibility of 2-4 more on couches and roll away beds. There are three full bathrooms, two downstairs and one upstairs. THE GOURMET KITCHEN is fully equipped with everything you will need including a large 6 burner gas range with griddle and oven, large refrigerator, microwave, and outdoor gas and weber BBQs. THE DINING ROOM seats 6-10 people with deck access to accommodate even more. IN THE SUMMER time, dive into our large swimming pond with water trampoline, and take a walk through our large garden with varieties of fruits and vegetables for your culinary enjoyment. There are also public access lakes and rivers located nearby. IN THE WINTER, gather around the central wood stove with a cup of your favorite tea, and take in the views of beautiful snow capped mountains. The dry sauna is also a plus on a cold winter day. We are approximately 45 minutes from the nearest ski resort. -Be aware that although we rarely get much snow, it is always a possibility and four wheel drive or chains would be required.
Our home sits in the middle of 130 scenic acres of secluded and very private property. There are spectacular views of the high sierras and the magnificent American river. The giant oaks, pines and firs provide shade for the large azalea, camellia and rhododendron groves but plenty of sun for the many summer flowers, full orchard and year round vegetable garden. There are foot paths and seating for quiet times of reflection and a redwood boardwalk that leads to a pavilion and quarter acre swimming pond. The pavilion area seats many and could be used for an outdoor meeting area or just for fun! There are no power or phone lines because the lodge is completely powered by solar! This is no rustic cabin, built with the design of a Frank Lloyd Wright home this modern 3300 square foot home has all the comforts, they just happen to be in the middle of the woods.
  • Amazing property! This house has absolutely everything you want and need. Jim is such a nice guy, he took the time to tell us the story of the property (it's very sweet) and you can tell he cares a lot about it. Highly recommended!

    Laurel and Sky2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place is magical! If you want seclusion and a peaceful place to relax, that's only a short drive from Sacramento, then look no further. The property is breathtaking. Photos can't do it justice. The home is well appointed and offers a ton of amenities. Jim is a fantastic host who made us feel right at home. The ladies who came to our yoga retreat couldn't stop raving about the place. Plenty of room for everyone, and plenty of places for quiet reflection or intimate conversation. The only drawback (and this really isn't any fault of Jim's) was mosquitoes. They were out in hordes, which made being outside for extended periods of time a bit unbearable, even with citronella candles and bug spray. I'm not sure there's an easy solution to this issue, but if there was a way to minimize mosquitoes, then the property would be perfect. All in all, we had a lovely time and will likely rent the property again for a future retreat (in the fall when bugs aren't as much of a problem).

    Renee2015-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was the ideal host, very welcoming and flexible with my requests. I can't say enough about how much we loved the experience of this magical retreat. It had everything we could have possibly needed or wanted. The kitchen was perfect for the feast we prepared, spacious with a huge range. We ate outdoors with a spectacular view of the river valley and sunset. The pond was the perfect temperature and Jim provided a giant stack of towels, plenty of seating, pond floats and a rope swing for the daring. A truly relaxing and fun experience. I think every single guest mentioned coming back next summer for a reunion. Thank you Jim for providing the perfect place for my 40th birthday celebration. Unforgettable.

    Tiffany2015-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the property for 2 nights with a group of 10 and it was amazing. Jim was there when we arrived to show everything we need to know about the house and swimming pool. He came back the next day to show us the rope jump into the swimming pool and we had lot of fun/fear doing it. We are thinking about coming back next year, it was awesome! Thanks Jim.

    Antoine2015-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jim's house is one of the most enchanting properties I have ever set foot on. A group of 11 of us traveled there on the 4th of July, and it was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of our busy San Francisco lives. From the moment your car hits the gravel road that leads to the property you feel like you are leaving reality and entering a magical space. He has taken meticulous care to create a paradise. Our trip was perfect. The house sits on 130 acres and runs completely on solar, which was a really neat experience. The views from the house are wonderful - the pictures do not do them justice. The pond is massive, much bigger than we were expecting. The house has been decorated in a very eclectic style, and although there were 11 of us there was more than enough room for us to fit comfortably. I believe 10 of us slept on beds and one on the couch. We grilled, swam, played pool, BBQd, played board games on the deck, picked plums in the orchard, and even went down to the river on the last day of our stay (it's within driving distance and there are cliffs you can jump off of). Jim was an incredibly warm and gracious host. He went out of his way to accommodate all of our needs and took extra care to make sure our trip was perfect. He took his time telling us about the history of the house, which we really appreciated. He also made himself very available in the week leading up to the trip -- I never had any trouble contacting him with questions or concerns. And once we were actually at the house he completely respected our privacy. We really felt the house was our own for a few days. I cannot say enough about the time we spent at this house! I felt depressed when I made it back to my cramped apartment in San Francisco and was already wishing I was back in the woods. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get away for some time -- be it a corporate retreat or a family reunion or a bunch of friends like us! Hats off to you, Jim, for a beautiful house and an amazing stay. We will certainly be back!

  • firstly, the photos really don't do this place justice, the only problem you are likely to have is where to sit and have your morning coffee...... out front overlooking the amazing mountain views, out back on the deck looking out over the amazing river views or out by the pond (which is huge, much bigger than it looks in the photos!) watching the dragonflies dance. we only spent a few nights, it wasn't long enough and we didnt want to leave, but even after just a few days we were super relaxed. thank you again and for sure we will be back as soon as possible.

  • We've been to Jim's house a few years ago and so we were really excited to come back for a weekend trip with friends. The house is fantastic and the lake is without a doubt a nice thing to have. We'll definitely come back! Jim is very friendly and easy to reach out to. We couldn't hope for a better host.

    Stéphane2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Jim's place was a Fantastic Experience! We were 10 people, staying for 2 nights for the New Year's Eve. Jim is a great host. He did everything that is possible to make our stay comfortable and memorable. First, let me start with the surroundings. Photos does not express the whole beauty of it. The forest around, the view of the American River (north fork) in the valley below, the pond in front of the house, the fireplace outside... everything was very, very marvelous. Second, the house itself is very comfortable and clean. You can see that Jim and his family really live in it. The interior design is quite unique and well thought. Every one of us got a bed place to sleep, and there were several couches free to sleep for few more people. Jim gave us a full access to their full stack kitchen with all the appliances and dishes, which was very handy for us to cook the holiday dinner for 10 people. Dining was big enough to seat all of us. Last, but not least, is the solar experience. Jim kindly offered a tour over the house and walked us through the whole solar-powering process. From the solar panels below the pond, to the batteries, to the controls in the house. We used all the power we needed and never had to use the generator, except once for sauna only. The heat in the house came from the three wood stoves (in the living room, bedroom and in the kitchen). Jim made sure we have enough wood supplies and helped to make run the fire while we were out. House was very warm in the evenings, which felt really good after the skiing day at Tahoe lake. Jim was very kind to present us the couple of bottles of wine accompanied with Brie Cheese and bread, which we served for the New Year's dinner. Oh, and also make sure to meet Bow and Yuki, two playful labradors! They will follow you if you plan to bike around the property. There are 3 bikes that Jim prepared for the guests. He made sure the air pressure is fine and bikes are ready to go. Jim, thanks a lot for such unforgettable stay. We will definitely come back in summer to swim in the pond and hike in the neighborhoods.

Welcome to the Cottage on the Farm! Enjoy a private getaway, but still be close to everything! 45 minutes from Boreal Ski Resort, 90 minutes from Tahoe or the Napa Valley, and only 2 1/2 hours from San Francisco, whatever you like to do, the Cottage is a perfect home base. Whether you like skiing, hiking, fishing, kayaking, wine tasting or antique shopping, or just relaxing, you have come to the right area.
For years our friends have enjoyed visiting in the cottage, and they have encouraged us to share it with you! The cottage has been newly refurbished--with everything! Brand new deluxe queen size bed with cozy bedding, table and chairs that look out the french doors on the property. Futon that can sleep two. There's also a small desk. There is no TV, but you can stream movies or videos on your device. Kitchen area has fridge, microwave, large toaster oven, crock-pot, electric skillet, rice cooker, blender, spices, utensils and more. We supply coffee, tea, creamer, sugar and small snacks for your convenience. If you need a special ingredient, just ask. We have a pretty well-stocked kitchen in the main house. There is also an outside cooking area, with a BBQ and 2 burner propane stove. Propane heat will keep you toasty. Our property is a mini farm, so there are some things to be aware of. There is an unfenced pond on the property, so we don't recommend bringing small children. Infants are ok, but toddlers are sometimes hard to keep track of! There is a washer and dryer on the mud porch of the main house that you are welcome to use if necessary. We also have an iron, ironing board and probably anything else you might need. We are here to make your stay enjoyable!
This is a rural area, but is close to so many attractions. Into micro brews or wine? Auburn has some great breweries and a great wine trail. Hiking or biking? We've got that! Did you say water? We are close to the Bear River, the American River, Rollins Lake and more! Are you a skier? Less than an hour up the hill to some great resorts. History buff? You've come to the right place. Check our website for lots of details. (URL HIDDEN)
  • The stay at the cottage was just what this momma needed! Three mom gal pals and I needed a one night get away not too far from Sacramento and Suzanne and eds place was PERFECT. The cottage was clean, cute and cozy. We received a warm welcome and anything we needed throughout our stay ed and sue were happy to oblige. Even shared butter and sour cream out of their personal fridge. We enjoyed laying out in the pool, sitting on the dock listening to frogs and smores by the fire (which was already set up for us, just had to light it). The bed in the cottage is sooooo comfy! It was just the reset one needs! I will deff be back and will be spreading the joy of this cute little place. Thank you Sue and Ed!

  • The hostesses, Suz and her husband Ed, warmly greeted us upon our arrival with their gentle black lab Buddy. The cottage is cozy, yet roomy with a sitting area and close to a full kitchen. Everything we needed was handy and new! Dishes, towels, coffee, tea, condiments and a wonderful downy queen size bed (and the wifi was easy and quick). The cottage is totally private. The only structure in site is a rustic barn with twinkle lights hung in a PEACE sign. The pond and surrounding trees on the property are full of wild life. We came to Colfax looking for new birds and happily found more than 30 species right outside the cottage. The cottage on the farm is perfectly located for day trips to the Lake Tahoe area, antiquing in the Auburn area or just hanging out under the oak tree watching life on the pond outside the cottage.....We will definitely be going back! Thank You Suz and Ed, our stay was wonderful.

  • My husband and I like hiking, so we were looking for a place near some parks with scenic views, and we were very happy to find Cozy Cottage on the Farm place. We stayed here for three nights and we really enjoyed it. During our stay we visited several parks with easy/moderate trails, such as Hidden Falls Park and Auburn State Recreation Area. The most interesting was Foresthill Divide Loop Trail - 11.5 miles moderate trail with picturesque views. House is very cozy, secluded, clean and very comfortable. Thanks to Suzanne and Ed we felt like at home. They are great hosts, very friendly and welcoming. They were easy to get in touch with and answered all questions we had. Suzanne sent us a link to their website which is packed with loads of details on restaurants, wineries, sport activities, historical landmarks and so on. We haven't had a chance to visit this place before, so the website was very helpful! I would definitely recommend this place!

    Galyna2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing stay in Colfax, Suzanne is such a caring host and made my stay extremely comfortable. The heating works perfectly, kept us cozy while it was freezing outside. It's an easy drive to a couple small ski resorts and a lot of hiking trails. Would definitely stay here again, was one of the best vacations I've had.

    Eloise2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and comfortable! Just a few things to do on heating the place properly.

    Tami2017-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne, your place was very rustic and authentically perfect in every way. The twinkle lights around the property are a nice touch and we most enjoyed sitting around the campfire and making s'mores. It was like we had our own private campground.

    Craig2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is one of the best Airbnb's I've stayed at! There was wonderful communication and the most adorable decor. Everything we could have possibly needed was in the house, easy to find and we took a great hike just a few miles away suggested in the cottage guidebook. We were sad to only spend one night here.

    Elli2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place was amazing, the cottage itself is adorable and cozy!! The pond was also a wonderful place to spend some quiet time at, day or night since the hosts were very thoughtful in strategically placing lights around the property, the dock included! Suzanne and Ed provided much in the kitchenette of the cottage and even a complimentary wine bottle after our long drive! They gave us a tour and checked in twice to make sure we had everything we needed (and they really leave the whole property open to your enjoyment for whatever need). The location is close to Tahoe, Donner lake/museum, Nevada City (do not miss seeing this town! Try to catch the farmers market also!), And Auburn is a great place to stop for supplies and walk around. Overall an amazing experience and place, I definitely recommend this place!

Spa, year-round creek with swimming hole and rope swing, local hiking trails and hammocks in the back yard. Ping Pong, rope swing, games, movies, Near Bear, American and S. Yuba rivers
Open floor plan with great room. Fully stocked kitchen with plenty of cabinets to store your things. Two large decks and a SPA. Hammocks in the yard. Stream right in the back yard with rope swing and swimming hole. Tether ball and ping pong and lots of other games, movies and a library.
Creek with rope swing and swimming hole right in the back yard. Hammocks in the back yard. This is a country neighborhood. I own 10 acres but most of my property is behind the house and across the creek where there are hiking trails that you may access.
  • Well equipped home. Full kitchen. We had family meals and played games in back yard. The creek was nice to put our feet in. We had 9 people and all were comfortable. Diane was a helpful great host!

    Della2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic Cabin that I would definitely love to visit again in the future. We had so much fun swimming in the creek, relaxing in the hot tub, and enjoying dinner and games in a beautiful relaxed cabin. The communication and accommodation by the host was wonderful as well.

    David2017-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect space for a quiet peaceful weekend. Diane has her hosting game down pat!

    Brendan2017-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • We spent most of our time sitting by the creek. The sound of the water rolling over the rocks was calming. The weather was perfect and the water is so clear in the creek that you can see the river rocks at the bottom. Beautiful butterflies and blue dragonflies were flitting about. Tiny birds were chirping and flying from tree to tree. The sunshine dappled the water through the trees. It was delightful.

    Marta2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Overall a really nice place to stay if you want to visit the Yuba River and Nevada City! Love the creek in the back, the hammocks, and the hot tub. The kitchen is well-stocked too. The master bathroom is missing a door, which is a little awkward for folks in the master bedroom suite.

Introducing the Cedar House! Experienced Airbnb Superhosts are proud to offer this light, bright 1940s charmer in the Cedar Ridge community of Grass Valley. Less than five minutes' drive from downtown, two minutes from Empire Mine, 10 minutes to Nevada City. Quiet street, tall trees, close to walking trails and a block from the General Store and Post Office. Brand new floors throughout, fresh paint, new appliances and fixtures.
This newly remodeled space is ready for you to move in and make it yours for your stay! We are committed to providing our guests a premium, comfortable experience. To be upfront, please note that the sofa-bed is small, with dimensions of a European "small-double." It would suit two children, but two adults might find it cramped. The floorplan is "open," with all rooms flowing into one another. While the bedroom is separate and around a corner, the only interior door is the one to the bathroom.
The street is a special one, in a neighborhood of peaceful, friendly folks and families. It's the kind of street on which kids put up basketball hoops, their games only rarely interrupted by the occasional car.Mature trees stand like sentinels at property corners and organically throughout yards both sweeping and small. There is even a Christmas tree farm a few houses down! The delights of downtown Grass Valley are a scant four-minute drive away. Better yet, leave your car keys at home and enjoy the walkability of a micro-town. A general store with local fare (including hot pasties) is located a block away, the neighborhood Post Office Is another block, and a trail leading to Empire Mine meanders through nearby wilderness. Local children often play in the parking lot and field behind the Grace Bible Church.
  • Cozy cottage that was a perfect crash pad for spending time along the beautiful Yuba River. MaryJane was a perfect host and super easy to communicate with. We would love to come back again in the future.

  • This is a lovely home that is very clean and thoughtfully decorated. We used it as a base for our stay in Grass Valley while we attended the Bluegrass Festival. It is on a quiet street away from main part of town, but only 10 minutes from downtown Grass Valley. The master bed is very comfortable. The bathroom small but clean. Mary Jane does mention in the description that fold out mattress in living space is not ideal for adult. I would concur. Our 10 year old fit on it and slept fine, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone larger. Mary Jane was not on site but was quick to respond via messages when we had questions. I would definitely stay here again on our next stay in Grass Valley.

  • Clean and so peaceful tucked away from the mellow street my pups were not bothered at all. Enjoyed our stay

    Laura2017-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • MaryJane's place is located in a quiet, wooded neighborhood about a 10 minute drive from downtown Grass Valley and a 15 minute drive from Nevada City, with easy access to both. The house is on the small side but doesn't feel cramped or crowded in any way. Gets good light. I was only there two nights but could have easily stayed longer. I didn't meet MaryJane in person but the self check-in is easy and she messaged me a couple times to see if I needed anything. Recommend!

  • This Airbnb in Cedar Ridge is a quaint little place, nestled in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood filled with tall pine trees, that gives it an "out of the city" feel! AND it's listed at a great price for the space. The pictures do a great job of showcasing the feeling of the cabin however it is bigger than we expected. A few special things we loved about this place were that it was sooooo clean (which is a high on my scale of what's important), the heater worked great, it has a land line that has free long distance since the cell service there is not great, there is also a small table space for eating meals and good sitting room for visiting or watching television. AND it has a washer and dryer which was so awesome!! This airbnb host was also extremely helpful with instructions about things and replied very promptly when we needed to contact her with questions!

    Rachel2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely recommend staying here, the house was clean and inviting! MaryJane was also very accommodating.

  • We had a wonderful time staying with Georgeann she is so lovely and we felt very welcome in her home. We wished we had more time so we could have stayed longer. Would highly recommend staying here. She gave us lots of great recommendations for the rest of our trip. We loved her hound - beast! She even took the time out for us to meet her horses. Just make sure you follow her directions and not the gps as it will take you to a fire road.

    Elyta2015-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely stay. Georgeann is a gracious host, the room was clean and comfortable, and the setting very peaceful. Her dog Bessie is a sweetheart and if was fun meeting her horses. We'll certainly return next time we visit the area.

    Michael2015-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Georgeann was a thoughtful host who generously shared her home with me and my dog. The room we stayed in was pleasant and airy, with a great view onto a horse pasture and trees, and her animals were lovely. Her dog Bessie got on well with my pup, and her horses wandering the property made for a beautiful and serene setting for walks. Georgeann knew the area well and was always available with great suggestions for places to go, as well as having a lot of enthusiasm for chatting and sharing stories from her interesting and adventurous life!

  • Georgeann is a very welcoming and gracious host. We only spent one night at Lodestar on our way to the Sierra Foothills and we wish we could've stayed longer, this is definitely a place where you want to relax, enjoy the grounds and surrounding area. Georgeann gave us excellent recommendations about places to visit and restaurants. We also enjoyed talking to her in the morning while sipping on pour over coffee. We highly recommend to stay at Lodestar Gold!

    Cathya2015-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Georgeann is a wonderful well traveled host, along with sweet Bessy the bloodhound. She made us feel very welcome from the moment I contacted her about staying for 2 nights in Grass Valley. Her home is spacious, well presented and so clean and oh so peaceful views. Very private, could not see the neighbors! We felt right at home. The perfect place to be for us, in the rolling countryside, yet close enough for trips to Grass Valley central and Nevada City. She has 2 rooms available that suited our party of 3 very well; myself and my husband, along with our friend and her service dog. Georgeann gave us very clear directions to get there and was attentive, respectful and flexible to our basic needs. An awesome place for your horses to stay too! I would stay again. Thank you Georgeann :-)

    Amanda2015-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was more than perfect. Georgeann received us with a fresh bouquet of flowers in the night table. She was so warm and friendly. We really make a new friend. Fresh coffe in the morning was another touch. Directions to a great restaurant. She even print us a (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map for the return (we have 3 stops in our way back). The bedroom and bathroom were really big and beautiful decorated with western antiques. We plan to go again. Grass Valley is such a great place for a weekend. I recommend Georgeann and her house without any hesitation.

    Ana2015-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Georgeann welcomes her guests in the most down to earth, loving, considerate way possible. Her character and mindfulness are such a rejuvenating experience that you absolutely must meet her and the beautiful animals she provides for. The serene setting of her lovely ranch and the inviting warmth of her home grabs you and makes you feel at home. Georgeann introduces and encourages interaction with her beautiful horses and it's such a pleasure to do so. They are wonderful because of her natural approach to horsemanship and her expertise in the field is second to none. She provides such a comfortable room and a lovely private double bath and always a delicious cup of coffee every morning. What more could one ask for out of an Airbnb host? If you arrive at Georgeann's Lodestar ranch with the intention of being left alone I'm sure she'll give you that, but I don't recommend missing out on talking with Georgeann and her horses. Great Stay!

  • A wonderful serene space, perfect for us... Super comfy beds... Janice was helpful and accomodating. We only stayed one night, but it would be a sweet place to stay awhile :)

    Joshua2015-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at the Sunshine House was a sublime experience. Janice and Jim were warm and kind. They welcomed a group of 8 guys into their home, something that I doubt many hosts would be happy to do. The house was beautiful; it was lovely space to relax and spend the afternoon in a private location, and it slept all of us easily. The grounds, moreover, were absolutely serene. Even in the heat of summer, the shade of the trees and the cool water of the lagoon made the whole place seem edenic. We could not have asked for a better experience.

    Nathan2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Janice and Jim's space! There were many things to do and it was easy to settle in. They were very communicative during the entire trip. Would recommend for groups!

  • We adored this place so much we really didn't want to leave! It's so rare to find such a clean, bright, well-equipped place that is so gorgeously decorated. Jim's fine craftsmanship makes the place extra special. Janice was a perfect hostess. I had booked for myself and husband (plus two friends), and at the last minute, we had two more come and she was totally accommodating and flexible. I had a sore back from the ride up and Janice came over and worked on me. Thai massage-- WOW! She is truly incredible. The weekend was better than any resort experience--my own space, my good friends, my favorite food in the fridge and a private in-house massage-- can't really ask for anything more!

Though our home is nestled in the forest, it is easily accessible via I-80; a mere 2.8 miles off that main thoroughfare. The accommodations have a private entrance for guests to come & go as they please. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. We are also a great option when I-80 is closed - use the instant-booking option and we will provide additional instructions.
Please note: Local law requires we advise guests that $3.60 of nightly fee charged is a Transient Occupancy Tax that will be paid to Placer County on the guest's behalf. This is not an additional fee - it is already included in the nightly rate. Our accommodations feature lots of privacy, remarkable views, and in the warm months, a large deck for morning coffee & complimentary pastries. We have nearly 6 acres with a beautiful park-like area - perfect for a picnic lunch.
  • This beautiful room is in a fantastic location for those who love the feeling of being in the woods, but also want to be close to things to do. The bed is extremely comfortable and the coffee bar they have in the room is fantastic! Gary and Allie were exceptional hosts that have clearly put time and effort into making your stay as comforting as possible. P.S. You have to try their homemade hot cocoa!

  • My husband and I were visiting his parents who live in the area. We did not want to stay in a hotel again, as we had in years past. We were fortunate to find Michele and Leonard's home. It is a beautiful home with spectacular views, and in a very peaceful quiet neighborhood. Michele and Leonard were wonderful hosts, leaving us fresh bread and lemonade for our arrival. They were very attentive and easy to communicate with us. We very much enjoyed our brief stay, and hope to stay there again in the future. Susan and Aaron - Seattle

  • Carol's home was lovely and we had a great time visiting Grass Valley while staying at her place. We had to attend an event in downtown and it was very close. About 12 mins away. The living space was very clean/spotless and contained everything that we needed. Since we were on the bottom floor of the hostess' house, she was easily accessible and helped us settle in when we checked in. We entered through the private entrance, but Carol was able to greet us through the indoor entrance. She answered all our questions and gave a mini tour of all the amenities. She even left us organic snacks and white wine! The house is in a quiet neighborhood and is surrounded by tall pine trees. It was very peaceful and you could see the stars very clearly at night. Overall, the location was beautiful - we even saw deer in the front yard.
