Lugares para alojarse en Cooks Beach
Have breakfast on one of the sun filled decks. Take a short drive to Cathedral Cove/Hot Water Beach, walk to Shakespeare's Cliff/Lonely Bay or our beach, kayak up the Purangi Estuary, go fishing, play golf, visit the wineries, or just relax and watch the native bird life in the trees. The possibilities are endless. We have BBQ's and beach gear, bikes and kayaks, fruit and veggies, lots of smiles, laughs and stories, we are happy to share it all with you.
Our newly remodelled cottage has no neighbours, only birds chattering and the sound of the waves breaking on the shore. The stairs between our house and the cottage open up to a large deck and garden, looking out onto the flax and native tree filled Reserve. Fan tails fluttering around you with their “messages", Tui's playing tag, green eyed Wax Eyes, blue King Fishers and many more birds make their home here. Not to mention our ones, Chiquito, George, Tortilla and Yellow when she is here, found in their window trapezes or outside on the washing line or deck. The world famous Buster will bark at you for sure, he is a mini Jack Russell and is tiny, that is why he barks! to make sure you see him! Following him will be Rusty, the big dog that smiles. He rarely barks but could be known to hang out where he is being petted the most. We have a beautiful macrocarpa table with benches and lots of chairs, a perfect place to sunbathe (please use the sun block we supply, our sun is very strong!), enjoy a drink in the evening and socialise, BBQ for dinner, or just relax. Terry loves his gardening and it shows! There are garden beds all over the property where we grow a variety of veggies, flowers, herbs and fruit. Help yourself, we are happy to share what we grow with you. We do not use or purchase genetically modified plants or seeds. We have a washing machine, if you give me your laundry I am happy to do it for you, small fee applies to cover the costs. We provide ground salt and pepper, dried spices and olive oil for cooking: tea, plunger and instant coffee, raw sugar, muesli, milk, local eggs, butter, bread, seasonal fruit. Have breakfast on your private, sunny front deck while looking upon the rock garden, filled with exotic plants, fruit trees, grape and passion fruit vines, and many more treasures. Books have been collected and friends have left some behind and taken others, help yourself and leave one if you have finished it. We have international adapters, and electric blanket on the bed, extra blankets in the house, candles and torches, beach towels and gear, fresh flowers that Terry designs complete the room. There is a heater if your really cold. If you are unable to find something you need, just ask, chances are we will have it. You will be treated like family Your private bathroom has towels, a hair dryer, cotton buds and facial wipes, some razors, shower caps, first aid kit, lotions, shampoo/conditioner, body wash and soap and more. There is sun protectant, mozzie spray just outside the door. The new shower has body wash, soap, shampoo and conditioner. We have WIFI to chat with family and friends, catch up on emails or just browse the net planning your adventures. We have 2 kayaks with life jackets, beach accessories galore, snorkels, masks, fins, skim and boogie boards, beach chairs, shovels and buckets, skateboards and bikes, and more. Beach towels are in the blue chest of drawers outside your room. Spades for Hot Water Beach, beach mats, sun lotion and insect spray (some beaches have "no see ems- little biting creatures that you can't see), a clothesline to hang wet clothes and towels, snorkels and fins, extra hats and even some jandals.
A short stroll up the street is Cooks Beach, where the sea is always calm, bright blue and ideal for swimming and skim boarding. The sun rises over the headland where the Purangi Estuary empties, or fills, into the sea. A magical place to start your day, peaceful and quiet. Cooks has some of NZ's oldest history - Capt James Cook sailed on the HMS Endeavour into Mercury Bay in 1769, anchoring just off The Purangi, the same area Kupe, the mythical Polynesian explorer had chosen when he first landed in New Zealand calling it Aotearoa. Kayak up the Purangi Estuary, its beautiful or at the other end of the beach is a little cave to paddle into then just around the corner is Lonely Bay, a locals favourite. Lonely Bay is the place to collect shell fairy rings, string them up to hang outside your home to remember The Coromandel. In November, December and into January, Lonely Bay is lined with blooming red Pohutukawa trees, NZ native Christmas tree, it's a sight to behold! Above Lonely Bay is Shakespheres Cliff and lookout, a great place to view Mercury Bay. Flaxmill Bay is the next beach, warmest water in the area for swimming. Across the street from Flaxmill is Eggsentric, have a cup of coffee and cake and grab some organic groceries, or a fun night out for dinner, sadly they are closed in the winter. The next beach is Front Beach, beautiful homes are along the shoreline and when the tide is out, Mussel Rock is where we go and pick our kai fresh from the sea. Lastly is Ferry Landing, the oldest stone wharf in Australasia, built in 1837. Ferry Landing is where you take a passenger only ride over to Whitianga, you will find banks, restaurants, shops, cinema…The ferry runs continuous in the Summer until late at night and is $6 return. We can easily look up the times if it is not summer, when they restrict their hours. A 10 minute drive the other way takes you to Cathedral Cove in Hahei or Hot Water Beach, both must to do's. There is a park and ride for Cathedral Cove that runs in the summer only, it is located just as you are driving into Hahei. Park there and take the bus up to the beginning of the track. The car park up at the cove gets very full and you could wait for hours. From the car park the walk into the cove is around 45 minutes- lots of stairs at the end, so the walk out is about an hour- depending on how fit you are! The other option is to take the track that goes from the beach. Take the road going into Hahei to the end, as you are facing the sea, the beach track is to your left, just before the big Pohutukawa tree, you will see the stairs. This way will put on an extra 1/2 hour or so. Make sure you have sunscreen on, a hat and lots of water if it's super hot. There is nothing to purchase down there, you need to take it with you. Off the Cove track are two other bays, perfect for snorkeling- String Ray Bay and Gemstone Bay- check them out for sure. There is a water taxi that operates from the beach, if they are running there will be a huge flag on the beach that you can see when you drive down there. There is also the kayak tours, they land at the cove for you to have a look around. Hahei Explorer operates from the Pa end of the beach. Cathedral Cove Dive shop runs diving classes. There are also lots of other boat tours that operate from Ferry Landing- Whitianga side mostly. On the opposite end of Hahei beach is Te Pare Historic Reserve, made up of two Ngati Hei pa sites. A 15 minute walk up to the site, through an ancient pohutukawa grove, leads to the headland with views stretching for miles up and down the coast. Hot Water Beach is just past Hahei. Dig your own spa pool during low tide. The hot springs are only accessible at low tide and only one area on the beach where the hot water is, that is by the rocks. From the road into Hot Water Beach, turn into the first car park you see-just as you are going up the hill. That is the surfers car park, park in there, it is not paid parking like the car park at the end of the road. Walk to the beach and the hot water area is to your right. Please note the water can be extremely hot, so you need to be careful where you stand. Best time to go is on a rainy day or sunrise and sunset, if possible there are a lot less people. SURFING: Hot Water Beach a classic surf spot with a right hand point break and various beach breaks that pick up the best of the Pacific Swell. SAFETY: Hot Water Beach has very strong currents, dangerous rips and holes which can make it unsafe. Please swim between the flags and make sure children, friends and family are supervised at all times. Leaving the area back to Auckland, just before you get to Tairua, or if you are coming this way and have gone through Tairua, are two stunning Kauri trees standing side by side. These two Kauri trees, or the Twin Kauri's, are easily accessible and well worth the photo opportunity, you can see them from the road. There is a small walk from the trees that takes you to a smaller grove of kauri's and other natives. Closer to Coromandel Town, but very well worth is New Chum Beach voted as one of the world's top 10 beaches. This protected beach has no buildings, no roads, no infrastructure or camping. Its a bit of a walk, 30-40 mins. From the north end of Whangapoua beach, cross the stream and walk along the rocky shoreline and over the headland through a spectacular nikau forest and huge Pohutukawas.

I have a large guest room in my beautiful, spacious, eclectic, California style home. You'll share the bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, lounge, dinning areas. This stay is suitable for single woman travelling on their own or mature couples.
My spacious guest room is a perfect place to relax in my antique arm chair, with a cup of coffee or tea. Egyptian cotton sheets on the queen sized bed, fluffy duvet and extra blankets make you feel like your sleeping on a cloud. I have cable (sky) tv and wifi for your entertainment needs or a separate office with a large desk and printer if the need arises. Upon returning from the beach or the Purangi Estuary, which is an easy stroll away, rinse off in the heated outside shower and dry off in the sunshine on one of the decks that surrounds the house. I have a washing machine you are welcome to use and a BBQ on the deck for your fresh fish from the organic market at Flax Mill Bay, just a few minutes up the road. There are 1.5 bathrooms, the shower is newly custom built, walk in style, there is even a chair for your connivence. I provide a light breakfast of cereal, milk, yogurt, fruit, toast, tea and coffee. If your not BBQing on the sunny deck, feel free to utilize my fully equipped kitchen.
Our village of approximately 350 permanent residents has a small dairy, a takeaway, a liquor store, a Tapa's restaurant, a real estate office and a hardware store, this area is called "Town Centre", yes there is even a sign! Our beach is white sand and 3 KM long, perfect for walks- sunrise is amazing! Lonely Bay, a 5 minute drive or easy 15 minute walk along the beach or prepared track, is a secluded and unspoilt beach a bit off the beaten path, it is only accessible by walking in through a short track or by sea, the bay is completely surrounded by high cliffs with native bush fringed by magnificent old pohutukawa trees (known as NZ's Christmas trees flowering a deep red in the summer) . A bit further up the same track is Shakespeare's Cliff, providing an amazing view of Mercury Bay and a plaque commemorating Captain Cook observing the transit of Mercury in 1769 from that vantage point. Flax Mill Bay is the next beach, where the water is always the warmest for a swim and the surrounding rock formations are beautiful. Treat yourself to a cup of coffee in the garden across the street at Eggsentric, and pick up fresh meat and fish, nibbles, cheeses and freshly baked bread. We are only a 10 minute drive from Hahei/Cathedral Cove/The Hahei Marine Reserve/Gemstone or Stingray Bay. Hot Water Beach is 5 more minutes along the road, where you dig your own spa pool in the sand during low tide.

  • Jill's home is very comfortable, and her travel planning is on-point: as her for ideas and she'll give you enough to fill an entire weekend! All of her recommendations were fantastic and this trip to the Coromandel was (per usual) a dream. Jill is a spitfire and has a lot of knowledge about the region, New Zealand and many other topics.

  • Amazing place. Really clean. Great amenities! Very good value for money. Thanks Tracey :)

    Chris2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Tracey is a beautiful and kind host. The cabin is gorgeous and comfortable. Excellent location

    Bethany2018-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is an excellent place to stay, beautifully and appropriately decorated, and just a hop skip and jump from the beach. Tracey and Wayne are really relaxed hosts and were available for any questions. If we had stayed longer I'm sure we would have had lots to chat about. Thoroughly recommend the studio and would love to return for another stay.

    Ruth2018-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Tracey's studio. It was a beautiful and very stylish little cabin with everything we needed. We especially enjoyed sitting out on the deck. Tracey and her family made us feel so welcome - thanks guys! There's also a great restaurant called Go Vino a stone's throw away which is a gem and should not be missed!

    Rosie2016-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Located within walking distance to local shops and Cooks beach, and 5 min drive to the Ferry over to Whitiangi. The studio was lovely and clean and very tastefully decorated. We had our own little kitchen and an adjoining shower room. We had no problems checking in and left to our own devices which we appreciated as we arrived later and left early. Tracey was quick to respond to messages and very friendly. Would highly recommend!

    Sharon2018-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far the nicest AirB&B I’ve ever stayed at. Tracey has thought of everything a guest could wish for. The space is comfortable, stylishly decorated and private. Tracey has very kindly provided goodies perfect for a tasty breakfast, which was a real treat. Fresh bread, eggs, bacon, jams, tea, coffee and milk plus a tiny perfectly-outfitted kitchen to make it all in. And another unexpected treat, there was a wee bottle of white wine and a beer in the fridge which was the perfect accompaniment to the tasty fish and chips from the Frying Scotsman around the corner! The bed was comfy and cosy, the bathroom was clean and tidy (and also supplied with thoughtful touches). A short stroll to Cooks Beach, an easy drive to Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach and close to Ferry Landing, this accommodation is ideally located for your stay on the Coromandel Peninsula. Tracey was available if you needed anything, but I needed nothing because she’d already thought of it all. Don’t think twice, stay here. You’ll love it... and wish you could move in!!!!

    Susan2018-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • The place is nice and sparkling clean. The WiFi was good too. The only downside is that there was a whole zoo of insects from tiny to quite large. It may be helpful to install mosquito nets on windows.

    Zinaida2018-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous homely stylish unit... Was gorgeous.. The personal touches are the best .. lovely decor and having the bikes to ride was great .. we wish we had longer.. hank you Tracey and family xx

Beauitful Bay View Haven Apartment is a standalone space with wonderful bay views. Upstairs bedroom and downstairs bed-settee if required. Sit back and enjoy the relaxing ocean and rural views or take a short 5 minute walk to a safe, sandy beach.
Bay View Haven Apartment has just enjoyed a comprehensive redecoration. Come and enjoy the new carpet, window dressings, upgraded kitchen area and new paint work. Sit back and take in the relaxing sea and rural views from the upstairs deck.
The Bay View Haven Apartment is situated at the northern end of Mercury Bay, Whitianga, just far enough up the hill to get a lovely sea view, yet only a 5 minute walk to the water's edge. As one of the few parts of Whitianga with sea views it is popular as a holiday home area which means that many homes in the vicinity are often unoccupied for much of the year. Friendly locals own other homes in the neighbourhood. It is a short drive to the wonderful cafes, restaurants, bars, picture theatre and, of course, the amazing Lost Spring hot pool complex.

  • Muriel y Evan son excelentes anfitriones, muy cálidos y amables. El departamento cuenta con una ubicación privilegiada y es más amplio de lo que aparenta en las fotos. El balcon-terraza es excelente para relajarse y disfrutar de la vista.

    Andrea2016-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Muriel and Evan were most welcoming and helpful in sharing their lovely home and knowledge of the area, flora and fauna. The views were fantastic and the studio most comfortable and well equipped. Would love to go back for a longer period.

    Anne2015-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Muriel and Evan are so lovely people and their place is just a delight to stay and feel great. I have visited the second time and will certainly go there on my next visit to New Zealand. Thank you for having me, guiding and letting me do all the craft works :-) I always feel grateful and happy at the Bush Studio !!

    Tina2016-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Muriel in Kuaotunu was simply amazing. The studio apartment is absolutely stunning and we felt privileged to stay in such a beautify environment. We had a wonderful time, met very generous, great people and made wonderful new friends. Thank you for such a great time. Alexander

  • Muriel, Evan and boy (their friendly dog) were all incredibly welcoming. The accommodation was great; best bed and shower of our trip! Location was lovely and peaceful, convenient for Whitianga and also for heading further North. We took a kayak trip to Cathedral Cove and hit some of the local beaches too. A great spot to relax in a beautiful part of the north island.

    Sarah2016-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of the best stays that we have experienced. Both Muriel and Evan where extremely warm and welcoming from our arrival and throughout our stay. Evan was extremely fantastic and full of knowledge and experiences. We even got to feed Boris the local eel which was a complete surprise. But very fun too. A nicer couple and accommodating you will not find. The property was suitably located for our Coromandel adventure, and extremely well sized and fitted. The physical location is wonderful, and extremely peaceful. Right at natures doorstep. You do need a vehicle to reach the property, and it can be tricky finding the turn so make sure you use a GPS or other suitable navigation.

    Alex2015-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived at Murriel and Evan's house and received a warmly and friendly welcoming. They are really special people and live in a beautiful woody house which themselves built it. We spent 2 wonderful days there just enjoying the peaceful environment of the house and the neighbor forest. More than recommended.

    Ricardo2016-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place to stay along with the people who own it. The studio has everything you would need and more. Very peaceful. Great restaurant in village called Luke's Kitchen. Muriel and Evan are great and as for the dog 'Boy' if I'd had room in my suitcase he would be coming back to the UK. Highly recommended to all. Great directions. We will definitely be becoming back.

  • We had a quiet night despite the storm on the cost ! It was cool to visit Maria's farm and to say hello to her alpacas ;-) We would come back in summer to appreciate the coast and the beaches...

    Cyril2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • I was unfortunately in and out pretty quickly but would have loved to explore the farmland and enjoy the landscape. The house was very clean and private, very comfortable.

Décor may vary to pics as I’m always trying to modernise the property. The s/c spacious unit’s at the rear of a fenced property with the main/front house owner occupied. Friendly animals inc 2 border collies, 2 cats, 1 bunny & song birds. A large deck separates the 2 dwellings with seating, tables etc & by arrangement use of a 6 seater spa. Safe parking for car &/or boat. 2mins walk to the beach. 15min walk to shops an markets, cafes & restaurants. Listen to the ocean waves from here & relax.
The property is only a few minutes walk to the large Buffalo Beach an it’s reserve, an a 2minute Drive or approximately 15 minutes walk to the main town an all its shops an cafes. Also the wharf an marina for those fishing or boating enthusiasts. It’s only a few streets away from the end of the main state highway into Whitianga so easy to find, without a bigger towns traffic sounds. The majority of tourist/holidaymakers adventures leave from either town or the wharf which are both walking distance...so you’ve got the option of experiencing Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach an many more exciting things to do during your stay.
  • Es increíble la casa, muy limpia, espaciosa, con cocina equipada. Y Sian es maravillosa. Un beso Sian!

We provide a well appointed, small room, TV, free Wifi, private bathroom, fridge, kettle and toaster. Communal lounge and kitchen also available in the house. Only 5 Min. walk to Hot Water Beach and 15 Min. drive to Hahei (Cathedral Cove). We provide spades for the hot pools at the beach. Unfortunately we do not provide breakfast.
A small, cozy and newly built home. Walk to the beach and dig your own hot pool or just sit on the deck and enjoy the sea views. Perfect place to unwind and relax. Ideal for couples or solo travellers.
The house is located at the southern end of Hot Water Beach on the hill side looking out to the ocean. A very peaceful place and within walking distance to the beach.

  • Tossie is a very friendly and nice host. House is very clean and nice. Very good view. Will definitely come back again. Very appreciated.

    Natalie2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Vivianne and Tossie are very nice hosts not to mention their great communication and comprehension with our request to an early check in. The house is brand new, beautiful and very close to the beach. Tossie made delicious coffee freshly ground and gave us great tips to where to go/eat! We didn't want to leave anymore and for these reasons we highly recommend their place!

    Elcio2017-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Très belle chambre avec salle de bain, dans super maison avec grande terrasse en bois et vue splendide sur Hot Water Beach. Viviane est très sympa, on reviendra...

    Gerald2017-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Vivianne and Tossies place is a great and modern home with the best view we've had! Really friendly hosts, the home is very clean and the location is golden! Worth every cent. Recommended!

    Andreas2017-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • I was not expecting the room to be this nice. We felt right at home, and Tossie gave us some nice recommendations on what to do in the area. The hot water beach was really convenient to get to. We just walked out the back and down the path with some shovels and towels (provided by Viv & Tossie). The bedroom and attached bathroom were very cozy and clean. One of the nicest Airbnb's I've stayed in. Super friendly folks! Sweet as!

    Paul2018-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful house and the most wonderful hosts. We only stayed for a night and left wishing we didn’t have to!! Great views and just so peaceful and quiet.

This is a cosy clean apartment with amazing views. The complex has 5 units in total and is extremely quiet. 5 mins to the beach, artisan brewery and pizzeria, restaurant and fantastic cafe in downtown Hahei. Close by are Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach and the ferry to Whitianga, as well as Mercury Bay Winery. Water taxis are available for you to explore the other beaches, or hire a kayak. This is a place where you can just soak up the beautiful views and relax.

Modern, cosy home with lots of sun. Close to the main town centre, including the marina, beaches, cafés, supermarkets and shops. The house has a fully fenced yard for privacy while sitting out and enjoying the beautiful coromandel weather. The friendly, helpful and caring host Alaine (a single female in her 20s) works for the local DOC office, so is very knowledgable on local places to visit and things to do. She also has a loving black lab Riley who lives inside. We look forward to meeting you!
Cozy 2 bedroom home on the outskirts of town. About 40 minutes walk into the town centre, or a 2 minute drive. Home to one human and a super loving pup named Riley who looks forward to meeting everyone!

Gracias Alaine!

  • Really enjoyed my stay and felt part of the family. Very important when travelling alone. Alaine was very helpful with suggestions for places to see and how to find the way to remote, peaceful and beautiful countryside. She also helped me understand my new Smart phone! Riley is lovely and took me to his favourite place, the local park, and is very well behaved. So a good time was had by all and I would definitely recommend Alaine and Riley's place as a home from home.

    Julie2017-12-19T00:00:00Z

Located in beautiful Cooks Beach, this beach themed studio unit is minutes to the beach and local amenities within the village. Approx 15 min drive to popular Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach.
This studio is located beneath our home and is fully self contained with your own access. We supply continental breakfast (cereal, fruit, toast and jam) and also provide tea and coffee. The kitchen has a microwave and hotplates for cooking.
  • Tina is very welcoming and helpful. She gave us little pointers on where to go and what to see. The studio is a nice private space which was perfect for my husband, myself and our two infants. It is very clear, aerie and you can see Tina went the extra mile with all the small touches. Warm welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay. If you are in the area, staying with Tina is a must.

I would absolutely recommend Tina's place to anyone looking for the perfect Coromandel getaway!

  • Stayed in Tina’s studio for 2 nights. The studio is very close to the cooks beach and hot water beach. You can catch the ferry or drive for 30mins to Whitianga town center. Very peaceful and quiet location to relax. The studio was very clean and tidy. Bread, cereal and milk was provided to us at no extra cost. Thanks

  • This was a perfect place for our family :-) the beach is extremely close and was great to swim in. The hosts gave us a lot of great tips and information of things to do there and even loaned us buckets and shovels for hot water beach. There also was a great area in the back with hammocks and a table and chair to have a nice wind down for the day. And the laundry access was very much appreciated since this was the end of our stay in New Zealand. I highly recommend this place and the hosts :-)

    Ben2018-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Was a lovely stay. We struggled a little with the size of the kitchen and fridge for four people but still enjoyed the stay. Lovely big outdoor dining areas and BBQ provided. :-)

Drift Inn Studio is a great spot central to town and accommodates up to two guests. Continental style breakfast available in the studio. Portable cot available on request. Brian and I do live in the house and have Maxx the cat who just loves extra cuddles!
Drift Inn Studio is located within easy distance by car or walking to town and the beach. Open plan layout and outdoor area with a rural view. BBQ also outside for those summer meals. Please note there is no oven but we do have a Microwave and hot plate with pots and pans to cook up a meal in the studio.
We have a flat walk to the beach, town and "The Lost Springs". Easy drive to other attractions and local beaches on the Coromandel. The local area is laid back beach style living!
  • Nicole and Brian's place was perfect for our stay on the Coromandel Peninsula. It was a great location not too far from Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove etc. It is also a quick walk to the beach and town. We actually got engaged on the beach just minutes from their house during our stay :) Nicole and Brian were very warm and welcoming and we would highly recommend staying with them!

    Aly2017-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay with Nicole and Brian at their Drift Inn. From the moment I arrived I felt very welcome. They were friendly and easy to talk to. The room was exactly as the photos showed, very clean and tidy. As many have mentioned the shower is fantastic and the bed is very comfortable. I enjoyed the outdoor area they have created as a place to relax and enjoy a meal.

    Stacey2016-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a warm welcome Brian gave us! He explained everything we needed to know and gave us good tips on the local beaches. The space is clean, private and fully self contained with its own private bathroom and toilet which was very convenient. There are a lot of little touches to the space that make you feel at home. There were even extra towels to take to the beach. I strongly recommend this accommodation, it's the best I have stayed in!

Our place is close to the beach but away from the crowds so if you want peace and quiet with great views, this is the place for you. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with teenage kids), and pets (dogs only). It is an easy 15 min walk to the shops and 20 mins to the beach. Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach and Whitianga are all within easy reach. (Note: cleaning fee is for linen hire. If you wish to bring your own bedding and towels, this fee will be refunded on arrival).
Feel like you are in the country but also within easy reach of the beach - best of both worlds. Accommodation has its own bathroom and a kitchen area. There is no cooker but you have the choice of a microwave, gas camping stove or electric frypan to cook with. There is also a BBQ outside. Kitchen has a full size fridge so plenty of room to keep your food fresh.
Here are some of our favourite places: Mercury Bay vineyard - great for tastings and relaxing with a view. Purangi Winery - rustic and quirky - liqueur tasting a must. Cathedral Cove - great walk rewarded with an iconic NZ landmark. Whilst in the neighbourhood, you should also visit the Macadamia Orchard and sample the produce. Hot Water Beach - dig your own spa pool and experience the natural thermal springs - don't forget to check the tide times though!

  • Carol and Stan were incredible hosts - kind, caring, and an absolute pleasure to meet. They went above and beyond for our stay. The property was above expectations: small but cozy, perfectly formed and furnished, and full of those extra special touches which made our time there an absolute pleasure. The location is unique and beyond beautiful. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to others!

    Jennifer2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Carol and Stan’s place. As the other reviews have mentioned, the view is amazing and I loved sleeping to the sound of the waves. The cottage is spotless and Carol provided all sorts of breakfast foods, which we so appreciated. We originally booked here because it looked doable by bus from Auckland, but we ended up renting a car. The cottage is quite close to the Hot Water Beach and we walked to the ferry over to Whitianga. I’d love to return here.

  • The Ferry Landing is such a lovely little apartment and the location is amazing! The views out to the beach were spectacular. Brilliant location to see Cathedral cove and hot water beach. • This unit has a stunning view. Can't be beat! It's a bit tired and could use a bit of a refresh, but it was well equipped with the things we needed.

    Daniela2017-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a beach place, not anything to brag about as far as the accommodations, but the view is amazing. New towels would make the stay more comfortable. And it was difficult to find Wi-Fi in the little town, otherwise it is a fine place to stay. Nothing fancy, but good enough for just a place to sleep.

    Marissa2017-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Traumhafte Aussicht auf das Meer, ansonsten für meinen Geschmack etwas schmuddelig, viele Stechfliegen in der Wohnung.

Located in beautiful Cooks Beach this recently renovated private room is a 2 minute walk to the beach and local amenities. Approx 15mins drive to popular Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach.
This modern private room is a comfortable stay. We supply a continental breakfast (cereal, toast,Jam) for your first night. Tea and coffee is available for the duration of your stay. You have your own private shower, toilet & vanity. There is also WIFI- due to the location this can be patchy at times.

    Carmen2018-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a night at Lisa's adorable cabin. The place is clean and cozy. We woke up to the sounds of waves crashing the shore since the beach is just behind the house. It's the perfect place to stay if you plan to go to the hot water beach which is only 10min drive away. Just a tip to arrive a few hours before 7pm if you plan to explore the area. Apparently the only way to go to the town centre to where everything's happening is by a boat. We arrived quite late in the eveving and was unable to find any food nearby. After some searches we managed to find an open cafe called Egg or something. We got a few packets of locally made fresh spicy Hot Water Beach mussels and some tortilla. That turned out to be one of the best simple dinner we ever had. Whatever you do, FIND THAT MUSSELS if you're seafood fans lol! However, the very best thing about being at Lisa's are her kids Ruby and Coco. Words can't describe how adorable they are! They welcome us with shy hellos but ended up wanting to join us in the cabin! =D Lisa's place is highly recommended and don't forget to borrow the kids' shovel for your hot water beach digging ;)

  • Nice place to stay. Had everything we needed. Close to Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove. Owner gave good recommendations on where to eat. Room also had mini-fridge, toaster, silverware and plates if you wanted to bring food.

    Lindsay2018-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, quiet, clean & cozy room— centrally located for a day of hiking/exploring at Hahei beach, catching the nearby ferry, Shakespeare’s Cliff, and within walking distance to the small downtown where they have a small grocery, hardware store, and Go Vino.

    Laura2017-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • The bungalow is nice and tidy, they are charming hosts. Recommend this place to others.

    Stephanie2017-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night in this nice little house very close to the beach. We can recommend this house.

Our original Kiwi bach overlooks one of the Coromandel Peninsula's most beautiful beaches - Otama. It's like stepping back into another time but with all modern conveniences. Eclectically styled, we're very proud to say we were featured in the December 2016 edition of NZ House & Garden magazine.
Nestled beside our newly built home The Bach offers a unique view of the northern end of the beach and Great Mercury Island. This small but charming one room double accommodation offers a kitchenette, bbq, rods and kayaks for experienced users– everything for a perfect stay at the beach including sand chairs and beach towels. There's an outdoor sink and bench for you to do dishes or clean and fillet your catch and a guest BBQ for you to cook it on. If you're an early morning bird then there's no more perfect place to Salute to the Sun than on your own private deck with the yoga mat provided, listening to the sound of the waves. There's free wifi and a decent iPod/iPhone sound system as well as lots of games and jigsaw puzzles if the weather should turn nasty. A rustic outdoor solar shower if you want to get in touch with nature or your own modern bathroom which is a few steps away in the main house. Located two minutes walk from the beach, you'll wake up to birdsong and the crashing of waves. On a fine day enjoy breakfast outside with the start up provisions provided, all homemade and locally sourced, they include free range eggs, granola, fruit, natural yoghurt, seasonal preserves and a fresh loaf of bread. There's also a range of teas' to enjoy when ever you want as well as fresh coffee. The fridge is stocked with ice and soda water and there's always a small, sweet indulgence to enjoy. Visit us in the winter and you'll find a pot of soup and a loaf of fresh bread waiting for you. We live in the new house across the way so help is always on hand or just to share a glass of wine at sunset. Otama is one of New Zealand's most private and beautiful beaches – 2kms of pristine white sand and safe swimming. Out of season you can often have the beach to yourself and if you're very lucky you might catch sight of a pod of dolphins or orca! But if you're looking for more then we're only a 10-minute drive from Kuaotunu Village with the world famous (in the Coromandel!) Luke's Pizza Kitchen (live music at the weekends, plus a café, small gallery and general store. Although a small beach village, Kuaotunu has lots of amenities on hand, a hairdresser, beauty salon, nail bar and masseuse, we're happy to make forward bookings on your behalf. It also has one of the only two, privately owned Observatories in New Zealand which gives astronomy enthusiasts a chance to view our spectacular southern hemisphere night sky free from light pollution. Bookings are essential. Located halfway between Coromandel Town and Whitianga, Otama is an easy drive to most Coromandel destinations: Historical Coromandel township with the quirky Driving Creek Railway. Hot Water Beach - we'll even lend you a spade to dig your own hot sea water spa pool or if you can't be bothered to dig there's the beautiful Lost Spring hot pools in Whitianga. An hour's driving takes you to Cathedral Cove and Hahei or in 30 minutes there's New Chums Beach - voted one of Lonely Planet's top 10 beaches! The Mussel Barge fishing trips which leave from Coromandel harbour are an excellent fun day out for everyone. Even if you're a land lubber or have never fished before, seasickness is kept to a minimum as the barge stays inside the harbour and you're nearly always guaranteed of catching something. If golf is more your thing then there's two world class golf courses within an easy thirty minute drive of the beach. We're a 3-hour drive from Auckland and the Auckland-Coromandel Town ferry service runs daily in the high season and has to be one of the world's most scenic island cruises. Likewise travelling by car along the Pacific Highway when the pohutukawa trees are in blossom can take your breath away. Check in 2.00pm and check out at 10am.
  • This was the perfect place to stay - we have stayed at many places and this has been the best of all of them. The bach was beautifully located and there was everything you needed. Jude and Joce were perfect hosts and we can only give them our best recommendations. (Specific details about the place have been provided by other guests)

    Ann Sofia Skou2016-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Jude and Joce were kind enough to collect us from Kuaotunu Beach and welcomed us with warm smiles, and a freshly baked loaf of bread from their own kitchen. As soon as we set eyes on the bach, we regretted not having booked a longer stay. It really does have everything; a flashlight to light the way on evening beach walks, all the cooking utensils you could ask for, a column heater and warm blankets should the night grow cold, an extensive collection of board games, and a great little library. We dined with our hosts for dinner one evening, and Jude prepared a wonderful meal. There was even homemade lemon tart for dessert! Otama Beach was still the highlight of the trip. The beach is visible from the bach, and only a short walk separates you from its beautiful golden sands. It is also relatively secluded - the afternoon we spent we saw virtually no one. The perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon reading. The township is charming—the pies at Luke's Kitchen being a particular highlight—and the locals were friendly. We hope to return to the bach again soon!

    Tapiwa2015-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • We are in love with Otama Beach and with our spiritual mentors, Joce and Jude. We have never been so sad to leave a place-the beautiful sound of the surf, the beach, the birds, the hike into the sheep pastures and the fabulous hospitality from everyone and everything around us made us feel that this is where we truly belonged. We are already booked to return.

    Lee2015-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely hosts in an absolutely gorgeous little corner of New Zealand! The bach itself is delightful - comfy, well equipped and boasting an impressive collection of Prince Charles memorabilia.. Thanks Jude and Joce - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

    Susannah2015-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • We were always made to feel welcome in fact so welcome we felt like they were our friends , very at home down to earth and this is why we chose to spend our holiday time in our special country New Zealand . The 'Bach' was exactly how it was on the internet and this is why we chose it initially loaded with 'Kiwiana memorablilia ' of which we could relate to . All our needs were catered for they both went the extra mile with special touches of home-made jams , yogurt & muesli and to greet us on our arrival was a freashly made loaf of hot bread...such a nice touch .We will surely be coming back to beautiful Otama !

    Patrick2016-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at Jude and Joce's place! It is exactly as it looks in the pictures, if anything better! We had very mixed weather and it was wonderful to hideout from the storm where we could play games and enjoy a glass of wine or 2. Then when the sun came out it's literally a 2 minute walk to the beautiful beach! We hope to visit again, thank you!

    Stephanie2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • I felt right at home at Jude's lovely bach. It's even cuter and cozier in person.. Jude and Joce were fabulous hosts. The views from the bach are breathtaking, and Otama beach truly is just 5 minutes away. Absolutely recommend staying here if you love the beach and awesome hosts. Jude and Joce are more than happy to help give directions, do your laundry, and give heaps of recommendations for where to eat/take day trips :)

    Alice2015-11-03T00:00:00Z

Lovely safe neighbourhood where most people are in holiday mode, kick off your shoes, head to the beach, out on the water or on a hike. Take the time to slow down - you deserve it! The Mercury Bay Winery is a 5min walk from our house. There are other wineries, breweries in the area as well. We have several fantastic restaurants and take-aways (best to call directly to check in advance if they are open as we are a small town and places shut early or close on particular days). Local playground is close-by. Our place is located in the "old" subdivision and has an urban outlook, it's deceptively close to the beach, just a short 5min walk to Cooks Beach. Cooks Beach is a white sand, calm beach - making it great for families, kayaking + swimming! Cooks Beach is where Captain Cook landed and traded with local Maori to plot the transit of Mercury, it is the area where Kupe first landed in Hahei and is rich in NZ history and sites to visit.
  • Miriam and Fletcher are absolutely wonderful hosts with a cute place and extremely thoughtful touches (think freshly baked bread, makeup remover and in-room snacks). Excellent communication, too! They even put together a wonderful guidebook to the area with TONS of recommendations. I wasn't able to stay as long as I'd like but will seriously consider a return stay here. They have very sweet cats to cuddle with, too. Highly recommend staying here!

    Meghan2018-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had the privilege to be the first Airbnb guests of Miriam! Miriam is a fantastic host. She gave us lots of tips for our trip, what we really appreciated. Breakfast was yummy, each evening she made fresh bread, amazing. The room is really nice and clean, as also the rest of the house is. The cats were very cute! I would definitely recommend this place!!

  • Miriam's place is a must do in the Peninsula. Miriam is an amazing host, she's very kind, will give lots of local tips. It was also very interesting to learn more from her about New Zeland's history. The place is very clean, stylish, spacious, and has all the amenities. It's very well located, with Cooks Beach at 3 min walk and the vineyard nearby. Definitely my best AirBnB experience so far!

  • Great place to call home while exploring the magical Coromandel. Miriam is a super helpful, welcoming, and friendly host. The cabin is clean and comfortable and the home itself is adorable, spacious, and welcoming. Don’t miss exploring Cathedral Cove - we did the walk late in the afternoon and it was exquisite. Miriam offers great ideas for day trips and a lovely bread and yogurt to eat breakfast for stays of two or more days. So glad we got to stay here!

  • Very cosy cabin in a nice garden! Only 10min to the beach which was great. At night you can even hear the waves. Just in the morning there's a bit of traffic behind the house, but it was around 8am so not a big problem. Big plus is the breakfast bar with fresh GF bread - thanks very much for everything, we enjoyed it a lot!

This beautiful ocean view property is a couple of minutes walk to Kuaotunu Beach and Luke's Kitchen, a well known local restaurant. The house is nestled on 4.5 acres of stunning gardens and native bush. The house consists of a 4 bedroom dwelling on the ground floor with an additional 2 bedrooms and an extra bathroom/toilet upstairs. "Kahukura" has ample parking for boats. The boat ramp is 1 kilometre away.
The entrance is from the main deck into the sunroom/lounge. The large lounge has an open fireplace (wood provided). The dining room adjoins the lounge. The kitchen has an eye level oven and all the cooking equipment you will need including microwave and dishwasher. The laundry has a washing machine and dryer. There is a separate toilet & bathroom with tiled floor and shower on the ground floor. Both shower and toilet have hand rails fitted. There is a second lounge & TV area on the ground floor which has a large 50 inch TV with DVD player attached. There is another smart TV in the main living room with movies on Netflix etc plus sound system. Both lounges have excellent sea views. For smaller numbers of guests it is quite possible to block off one half of the house & live in the other if so required. There is an outdoor living area directly outside the kitchen with both gas & wood-fired barbecues. Kahukura has ample parking area for boats, and a fish filleting area. The ground floor has 4 bedrooms. Upstairs has 2 further bedrooms, 1 large & 1 small, both with queen size beds, plus bathroom and toilet. A balcony leading from the larger upstairs bedroom has excellent views of the ocean. The upstairs bathroom consists of a shower, toilet and vanity unit. There is also a small kitchenette upstairs suitable for tea and coffee making.
Some would say the Coromandel has the best beaches in New Zealand. "Kahukura" is a 3 or 4 minute walk to north facing Kuaotunu Beach. On the way is the neighbourhood dairy (which also sells beer and wine), and Luke's Kitchen (a licensed pizzeria) and associated cafe and gallery. The nearby Kuaotunu Boat Ramp offers access to some excellent fishing throughout the year.
  • This place is outstanding! Tim is a great responsiveness host. The location is ace, just under 2 minute walk to the beach, the cafe, the dairy and Luke’s Kitchen. Most of all the view is top knotch. We loved all the little areas to chill out in at the house too. Great stay all round!

  • We had a wonderful time at Tim's place! Great living space area and outside deck to enjoy each other's company. Amazing location with most of Coromandel's iconic beaches a short drive away!

  • What a great place to stay!! We had a large group and it was perfect! Great location to the shops and amazing views down over the water. All you need with plenty of rooms to socialise in and great outdoor areas.

    Olivia2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of the best AirBnBs we have ever stayed in (and we've stayed in a lot, all over the world)! That's not to say it didn't have minor niggles, but what it did have, it had in spades: The view - from the main bedroom balcony, the deck and the front garden you look out over the bush down to the sea. At sunset it is even more stunning! The garden - a lush sub-tropical paradise awaits you! From the beautifully flat lawn out the front to the banana grove around the back, there are surprises around every corner. A winding path takes you up and around the back of the house, through native trees and shrubs, past succulents and bromeliads, down into a herb garden and out to the fruit trees. The Persimmon tree - from your bed in the main (upstairs) bedroom) or down at the hexagonal table on the deck you can sit and watch as native birds descend in numbers to gorge on the fruit. One morning we woke to find a very fat Silver Eye tottering around on the balcony floor, unable to keep upright it was so full. It almost keeled over, blinking very slowly, as if drunk! It was fine though as 10 minutes later it managed to fly away. The log fire - a huge fireplace was laid ready for us when we arrived, with logs stacked up alongside - very welcome as it was winter and the temp dropped to 0 overnight! The beach - only 3mins walk down the road to one of the most beautiful beaches on the Coromandel. Go down to watch the sunset or take a dip at your leisure! The space - if 6 double bedrooms, 2 lounges, a TV area, a dining area, a kitchen and a laundry is not enough for you, I don't know what is! As there were only 2 of us rattling around, we closed up one side of the house and only used the rooms we needed. The interior - from bespoke and antique pieces of furniture to art, craft and pieces of family history on the walls, it was incredibly homely and comfortable. A couple of points to note: if there are more than 6 of you, you'd be wise to ask for/bring long a few more oven & serving dishes as there were only a few available; if you are coming in winter and using more than 2 bedrooms ask for more heaters (there were only 3 in the house altogether). While the house isn't modern and luxurious, that was not what we were looking for. It has so much charm and comfort and it ticked all of our boxes. We just loved it. We'll be back for sure the next time we're in NZ (in fact we're already planning to invite our friends and their family)! Thanks Tim & Vivien for your sharing your family house with us.

  • Spacious and well-equipped cabin. We didn't get to see Maria but she responded quickly to all messages and we liked to stay there!

    Tabea2018-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • The awesome place to stay, highly recommend!

    Ivy2018-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place was great in terms of space & rooms. Kitchen was good & bedrooms ideal size. The place is fenced giving privacy & you get your own garden. The only thing for us was how cold it was inside (no heaters) & unfortunately the Wi-fi did not work. Whether that’s because we were furthest away from the house. (Cabin 2) Other than that good stop & imagine its great in summer

    Daniel2018-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • My team members at our work enjoyed their stay and would definitely recommend and stay again!

    Andrea2018-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • 房间很整洁,距离沙滩也很近,天气好的话,夜里可以看到美丽的星星哦。建议大家成群结队的住上好几天。 The rooms are tidy, and house is close to the beach, when it is a nice day, you could see stars in the sky. Please come with your friends to stay for days, to enjoy the life close to nature.

    Josh2018-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very spacious cabin ( for 2 people as we were, but it obviously caters for more). Although it is fairly near a main road, which can be a little noisy, Maria has worked hard to create privacy around the cabin and there is a nice outdoor space to sit in and a large barbecue to use if you want to. The cabin is clean and well equipped and the bed we slept in was extremely comfortable! I would recommend this cabin as good value for money but don't expect to be able to walk to the beach from here - but there are some beautiful beaches a short drive away.

    Sarah2017-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed there one night while in the region. Didn't really have time to go around but the house is really nice and well equipped. I recommend.

    James2018-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Boat sheds are a great place/value for any amount! Heaps of beds, but it was just for myself this trip which made it even better for value! Felt like a home away from home! Cooks beach is a great place, and great spot close to the other Coromandel good spots! Would love to go back! Didn’t get the chance to meet Noeline but she had great communication throughout my stay and her husband popped to say hello!

    Arlena2018-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Boat Shed is such a cool place to stay!! It’s very smartly laid out with lots of cool design details, and extremely comfortable. Everything was thought of, lots of nice touches everywhere, and Noeline was a very nice host! Highly recommend.

  • Noeline's place is great, it's bigger than how it appears in the photos so we were presently surprised. The rooms were comfortable and tidy. An easy walk to the beach. Noeline was easy going and made it a pleasure to stay.

  • Nice place, closad importants places.

  • The cabin is small but big enough for one person. There is a small closet with cutlery, plates, pans etc. The cabin was close by the showers and kitchen. The kitchen is big and clean. Next to the cabin is the bird park and farm and it is wonderfull! I really recommand this cabin!

    Jeroen2017-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • It's basically a camp site, but we were suprised with the cleanness of the cabin and facilities. The location is quite, sourrounded by animal park, we hade a nice walk around (seeing alpacas, emus, and other animals). It would be nice to have wi-fi connection in the place. If you are looking for a quite, relaxing place to take a breath out of the everyday's life, this is a good place for you.

    Ludo2018-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • This a fabulous place for a quite relaxing stay among nature. Our host were very friendly and shared great tips on local spots to visit. Thank you everything we truly enjoyed our stay!

    Lashmi2018-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • I loved staying here. The cabins are part of a small campground right next to bird park. The facilities are clean. The cabins are right next to the large kitchen and bathrooms. Good strong hot showers. You have free access to the bird park and farm. The horses, donkeys, goats, bunnies would run over to greet me and let me pet them when I walked by their pens. Even the emus too. Several of the birds will say hello to you. One even sings Happy Birthday. The lorikeets will climb on you hand and walk up to sit on you shoulder. I would talk to the birds and pet the animals every day. The park is about a 10 minute drive to Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove, and Whitianga town. And the stars are amazing at night.

    Warren2017-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • A secluded quiet place to stay, great value for money and all you need. It's not luxury but a lovely place to get away after a big day.

Nestled between Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach is this great little apartment, furnished with an eye for design and with exceptional panoramic views of beautiful Hahei Beach and its many island outcrops. It’s private, clean, comfy, newly painted and decorated and super stylish. Just a few minutes walk down to the beach – and local cafés, restaurants, wineries and craft breweries are all just minutes away by car. This is a great place for a holiday and the landscape will not disappoint.
This is a great place for a romantic beach getaway and has its own private sunny balcony and unlimited free Wi-Fi. Extras include a spade for digging your private hot pool at Hot Water Beach, a beach umbrella and umbrella. There are Ecostore (Safer for you and the world) plant-based products throughout, including Body Wash, Hand Wash, Shampoo and Conditioner. The house is cleaned with natural products too! The kitchen has two hobs, a fridge and microwave. There is a good selection of cutlery, utensils, a coffee plunger, serving bowls and nice pots and pans. There are two heaters in the apartment and plenty of blankets to keep you warm in winter.
In this popular area of the Coromandel you will find a number of coastal walks including Cathedral Cove and also the Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve. Plant, fish and other animal communities thrive in the marine reserve, and the clear sheltered waters are perfect for snorkelling, diving and boating. There is a wealth of historical and cultural heritage on the Coromandel with some historic sites dating back over 800 years, including some of the earliest settlement sites in New Zealand. Many sites are wāhi tapu (sacred) so access is restricted or denied. Visitors must respect this, but other sites such as Opito Pā, Whitianga Rock and Te Pare Pā are accessible in this area. Hot Water Beach is located a few kilometres south of Hahei. For 2 hours either side of low tide you can dig into the sand, tap into the hot springs and create your own thermal pool. (Take care if swimming in the sea here as there can be dangerous currents.) For more information about the area check out www.thecoromandel.com
  • The nest is a lovely retreat - with a stunning view, stylish interior and thoughtful touches - I loved the use of eco store products throughout . Me, my partner and my 13 year old son spent two nights there and just loved it . It had everything we needed and more - my son found the couch comfortable to crash on. It was so quiet and peaceful with a super comfy bed. Our weather was a bit rainy but we just played Uno and chilled . We would highly recommend the Nest.

  • Amazing view. Interior was very well decorated and furnished! I don’t usually leave reviews but this place warranted it. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

    Jordan2018-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Absoloutely loved our stay with Duncan at The Nest. The apartment is gorgeous and the view, stunning. We arrived late afternoon and from the verandah, as the sun was going down was one of the best views of the ocean. Could not have picked a more perfect spot to have a few drinks and watch the sunset. Bathroom had lots of hot water and a heater in the bedroom. I don’t know about you but a good shower and heating is a must for me! Fully equipped kitchen and lots of good books around. The apartment is also beautifully styled, with eco friendly amenities. The town itself is adorable with some great restaurants, cafe’s and corner store just a kilometre away. 6 km from hot water beach and you can access cathedral beach from here too. A very scenic drive approx an hr along the coast to Coromandel Town. Communication was excellent before and during our stay. Would reccomend to anyone thinking of staying here, you will not be disappointed.

  • This lovely couple hosts you with a warm and generous assistance! The room has its private entrance and that means a lot, since you have your own keys to come and go anytime you wish! The location is really pretty because it's along the main Withianga beach ( Buffalo's ) and it's easy to reach it following Coromandel town's directions from the town center or from 25A highway. The neighborhood is very quite and reliable, so no worries about anything. Just along the house you can park your own car! The room is quite big, and with its bathroom ( fully furnished ). The two little dogs are part of the family and they will love you as soon as you come in! Laundry and dryer at your disposal too. Surely we enjoyed our stay!

A short stroll up the street is Cooks Beach, where the sea is always calm, bright blue and ideal for swimming and skim boarding. The sun rises over the headland where the Purangi Estuary empties and fills into the sea. It is a magical place to start your day, peaceful and quiet. Cooks Beach has some of NZ's oldest history - Capt James Cook sailed on the HMS Endeavour into Mercury Bay in 1769, anchoring just off The Purangi, the same area Kupe, the mythical Polynesian explorer had chosen when he first landed in New Zealand calling it Aotearoa. Kayak up the Purangi Estuary or at the other end of the beach is a little cave to paddle into then just around the corner is Lonely Bay, a locals favourite. Lonely Bay is the place to collect shell fairy rings, string them up to hang outside your home to remember The Coromandel. Between November and January, Lonely Bay is lined with blooming red Pohutukawa trees, NZ native Christmas tree, it's a sight to behold! Above Lonely Bay is Shakespheres Cliff and lookout, a great place to view Mercury Bay. Flaxmill Bay is the next beach, warmest water in the area for swimming. Across the street from Flaxmill is Eggsentric, have a cup of coffee and cake and grab some organic groceries, or a fun night out for dinner - sadly they are closed in the winter. The next beach is Front Beach, beautiful homes are along the shoreline and when the tide is out, Mussel Rock is where we go and pick our kai fresh from the sea. Lastly is Ferry Landing, the oldest stone wharf in Australasia, built in 1837. Ferry Landing is where you take a passenger only ride over to Whitianga, you will find banks, restaurants, shops, cinema…The ferry runs continuous in the Summer until late at night and is $7 return. We can easily look up the times if it is not summer, when they restrict their hours. A 10 minute drive the other way takes you to Cathedral Cove in Hahei or Hot Water Beach, both must do's. There is a park and ride for Cathedral Cove that runs in the summer only, it is located just as you are driving into Hahei. Park there and take the bus up to the beginning of the track (available summer months only). Note check the tides, if it is high tide you will not be able to get there.

  • Kim and Terry were by far the best airbnb experience we have had. Their place had a unique touch to it and was both cosy and comfortable. It came with everything in the descriptions and pictures plus more. Close to many attractions and beautiful views, it truly is a hidden paradise. Before we even arrived, they supplied us with a tonne of tips and advice as well as great places to go with the addition of gear and equipment for outdoor adventures. We definitely recommend them to all people heading out to that area and plan to head back again soon!

    Carissa2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a hidden paradise! Kim and Terry are wonderful hosts! Our room was equipped with everything that was needed to make our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. Kim was always readily available to give us advice and tips on where to go and when to go. I would definitely stay here again the next time we are in the Coromandel area!

The Good Earth is a place to experience well-being and nature's abundance. The guest house is on 3 acres just minutes from the hot pools at Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove in nearby Hahei, and the extraordinary beauty of the Coromandel. The air is very clean and clear here like the sea and shore. The night sky is filled with stars and often the Milky Way is magnificent to observe. The morning is a glorious symphony of birdsong. If you want to experience life's fullness, this is the place.
The Guest House is on three beautiful acres of native trees, flowers and organic vegetable gardens. The view is out to the hills and sand dunes of the beach and the feeling is of wonderful space and beauty. The guest house is private and comfortable. There is a bedroom with a queen bed and bathroom, a lounge area with one or two additional single beds depending on the booking and a fully equipped but modest kitchen. We are 3 minutes from Hot Water Beach and 8 minutes to Hahei and Cathedral Cove.
Hot Water Beach is a very small town with a café, an art gallery and a deli. The hot pools are available at low tide and guests dig their own private pool.
  • Tuvimos una estadía corta pero muy buena. La ubicación es muy buena y cómoda para moverse en auto. El predio es muy grande y tranquilo, estilo campestre. Dix es super amable y nos ayudó en lo que necesitamos.

  • Beautiful farm setting, wake up to the sounds of birds. Minutes from hot beach and the town of Hahei. Dix’s place is lovely and confortable! We even got to watch him and his girlfriend play music at the hot beach cafe, so it was almost like being a local! I highly recommend it!

  • It was a great experience living at Dix's place. It's a perfect place if you are looking for a quite and scenic experience, close to the nature. We spent the night star gazing with our glasses of wine -- it was surreal. Highly recommended!

  • Dix is such a lovely man! I cannot say enough about how warm, kind, and thoughtful he is. The Good Earth Retreat is located within minutes of Hot Water Beach and other attractions in the area including Hahei beach. His little studio is great and has two beds, one queen and the other is a nice single bed that you could use as a day bed. Dix also gave me and my boyfriend a lot of advice on where to go and places to dine, including Hot Waves, which is great for breakfast, The Pour for drinks and pub food, and The Church which is a romantic cozy eatery in town. I hope I'm lucky enough to go back to NZ and for sure would book Dix's studio. I've already recommended it to several people I know. You cannot go wrong with Dix's retreat.

Cooks Cottage is a 1 bedroom self contained cabin, with open plan kitchen, dining and lounge. The cottage sits at the rear of our house and has its own entry. Beautiful Cooks Beach is a short 70 metre stroll away. This is an ideal cottage for couples.
  • Perfect little cabin right on the beach. I can’t fault the hosts - Erin and Mike were very hospitable and they offered lots of advice on what to see and do in the area. The cabin was clean and well furnished. Breakfast materials/ tea and coffee were provided. I would highly recommend a stay here!

  • Had a wonderful time the spatious little cottage out the back of their house had everything you could want. A full size fridge and freezer prestocked with milk. Tea, coffee it had a comfortable lounge with sky tv. The bed was large and comfortable The hosts were very friendly and accommodating, they were wonderful to talk to, and gave us wonderful information about the area and where to eat (including a nice area called Shakespeare cliffs to see the sunrise). The beach down the road was lovely and quiet.
