Cromford is a must for those with an interest in industrial history and exploring the beautiful Peak District. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and surrounded by wooded hills and cliffs, the village of Cromford is famous for its connections with Sir Richard Arkwright and the cotton trade, and often referred to as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. North Street is the earliest planned industrial housing in the world and the finest of its type, built in 1771 by Richard Arkwright to house the workers from his pioneering cotton mill. Surrounded by countryside, it is at the heart of a designated World Heritage Site. Cromford offers a selection of quality bistros, pubs, shops and cafés, as well as Arkwright’s Cromford Mill and canal. You can also enjoy a visit to nearby: Matlock where antique hunters can enjoy a range of interesting shops (3 miles) Matlock Bath where the cable cars of the Heights of Abraham will offer you a whole new perspective over the area, known to the Victorians as Little Switzerland (1 mile) Chatsworth House & Country Estate (10 miles) Bakewell, a charming market town and home of the Bakewell pudding! (10 miles)

** Covid-19 update. I’ve put labelled hand wash with antiviral essential oils by the sink. Please wash hands on entry. (Too strong for face). On cleaning and changeovers, I am using disinfectant on all surfaces and handles and biological wash for any bedding and towels. (However in these times, I would personally advise using your own towels and also washing your faces when coming back from being in public.) Local pubs with roaring fires. All dog friendly. Live band on in village pub Fridays at 9. Often a Saturday too. Nice drives to Chatsworth . Belper, Haddon Hall. Ashbourne. Bakewell. Walk to the amazing Matlock Bath or stay in the beautiful UNESCO stone village. This space alone is for 1- 2 or 3 only. Small set up single bed is ideal for a child. It is snug in there with 3. @@ Price reduction for 7 day bookings. Leave your car. Lots of pubs. Restaurants. Cafes. Shops. Galleries. Antique shops. Walks. Right close to the snug. Pleasant walk also into Matlock Bath. Lots of walks and events. Pubs have roaring fires in winter, dogs welcome most places. You can enjoy a day out visiting Derbyshire's jewel, Chatsworth House or Haddon Hall (Tudor Manor House) The high peak trail is on your door step. Walk to Matlock bath (15mins) for the Heights of Abraham. Stay on Cromford for the Historic Mills and Canal experience, with a pumping station. A stunning little village. You won’t be disappointed. (Maps and info and waking books all in the snug). Deborah. Please see video: https://youtu.be/SSTVk0RTikM December - bbc put a programme on about Cromford. It’s on iplayer. The pubs ponds and power programme. A very arty, historic, unique little space. Own entrance and full private use of your lounge/bed settee, kitchen/diner and shower/wet room/bathroom. All on ground floor. Easy access. Central heating with 3 radiators regularly coming on in Autumn/winter. Cool in summer. Entrance to street is in the heart of the village. Cottage (built 1740) is central village on the main road (it does get a bit omit of traffic in the day). Set in the heart of a beautiful quaint stone built UNESCO village, full of shops, pubs, restaurants. No hill to climb as I’m right in the centre. No need to use your car if you want to explore the surroundings. Welcome to store bikes around the back. For yourself is the Lounge with bed settee, Alexa tv with Netflix (use guest account), Amazon prime and iPlayer, full working kitchen with sink, new induction hob and oven with bistro table and chairs and a marble wet room/ shower with toilet and sink. All stylish. Bed settee, brand new from Ikea and is clean and comfy. Bedding is put away underneath. Quick to get out. It’s huge. I’m not one for ironing but it’s all laundered immediately after each stay. There is a padded blanket to put under the sheet should you want it softer. I live in the other side of the cottage myself but there will be little noise as the cottage has thick stone walls and I sleep on the 3rd floor. I have 2 little dogs who may on occasion bark if someone comes to the door, but I keep that to a minimum, and have sound proofed the adjoining locked door. You can pull up in the pavement outside to drop of luggage. Free parking is across the road also and throughout the village. The drive is for owners use only. I’ve had really good feedback with the snug but please note it is on the main road (but double glazing is good and your right in the hub of it all), the roads tend to quiet down in the evening and it’s quieter than Matlock Bath. Autumn/ winter much quieter. Bakewell. Buxton. Ashbourne - all have busy roads. A few customers think the Peak District will be quiet in all areas but main villages do have traffic. Jenny Aitken is a fantastic local artist if your wanting to learn to paint. She is based near to Belper. Please google her for details. Winter—Update on log burner. There has been a few people not using it correctly which can be dangerous. I can show you how. I do not supply logs or coal as I put the heating on to keep the snug warm (3 radiators). If you want to use it for ambience reasons then please bring own sticks/paper which are clean. (The shop sells some across the road). It will not take very large logs. You won’t need much heat as the snug is warm. Please keep its door closed and do not overload. Keep the 2 valves mostly closed so that it does not burn too quickly. I can show anyone who needs help. @@@@ do not leave the snug with fire blazing. It must have died down with air vents closed. Wilkos in Matlock sell the slow burning logs which are nice for an effect. Please say if bringing a dog. Plus type of dog. Please could you bring your own blanket for dog to sit on. I can supply a bed and blanket at an extra price if needed. The Snug is totally self contained and central with shops, restaurants and pubs across the road. You don’t need a car.

Our house is situated on the edge of Wirksworth in Millers Green, its 15 – 20 minute stroll into the centre of town either over the fields along a well-defined footpath or along the road and walking distance to Haarlem Mill. It is in a private cul-de- sac of just four houses so does not suffer from any traffic noise.
The guest bedroom which has one double bed is an excellent size with wonderful views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside. There is a wardrobe and drawers available for you to use, there is also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The separate modern bathroom is for your private use, it has an electric shower, washbasin, toilet and bath. Our conservatory is lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down over the hills in the summer. Our garden is very colourful during the summer months and is constantly evolving, and provides another lovely place to sit and relax - bring your own wine and use our outdoor furniture for a ‘chill out’ evening. We will provide a simple breakfast suitable for vegetarians of juice, cereals, toast, fruit and yogurt along with preserves (homemade where possible), please let us know any other dietary requirements. You can also use our kitchen for the preparation and cooking of evening meals (by arrangement so were not falling over ourselves). If you wanted to eat in from the local take outs or have a simple supper or lunch of cheese, bread and wine etc. (there is a bakery & Co-Op in the center of Wirksworth which offer delightful treats) then we’ll make crockery, cutlery, glasses and space available for your use.
Wirksworth is a fairly unique and historic town full of odd nooks and crannies and the ancient and fascinating church of St Mary nestles in its small cathedral-like precinct in the centre. It has many independent shops and coffee / tea establishments. There are a number of fine pubs, some serving meals. There is also a splendid French style bistro (La Minstrel) which opens daily - advanced bookings are recommended for weekends. A little further afield many of the surrounding villages also offer additional fine dining. Wirksworth has a fuel filling station and a large Co-Op. Wirksworth also has its own heritage railway (The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway) who operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars and occasionally steam locomotives. The town has well-dressings during Whitson week, and every September there is the unusual ceremony of 'Clypping', in which the church is encircled by the congregation holding hands around it. Wirksworth has the well-known Arts Festival, which happens over a September weekend. The Festival includes all forms of Art, with the Market Square the centre for music, dance and street acts while many of the houses around the village play host to many different forms of artistic expression. Tours and tour maps can be bought in the local shops during the festival. Being on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the White Peak there are many fine walks available to suit all abilities and a number can be done from our front door. Carsington Reservoir circular track is within a 30 minute walk of our home as is the traffic free High Peak trail which is suitable for walking and cycling (cycle hire is available locally). Famous Dovedale with its ‘stepping stones’ is only a short drive away. For the more energetic the gritstone edges and wild moors of the Dark Peak are only a 50 minute drive away. The historic town of Bakewell, the stately homes of Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Kedleston Hall are all within 30 minutes by car. Matlock and Matlock Bath with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham a short 10 minute drive. The National Stone Centre, Derbyshire Eco Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre also have their homes in Wirksworth. We are also with easy reach of a number of local wedding venues including Haarlem Mill (10 min walking distance), Shottle Hall and Alison House among others.

34 Water Lane is a delightful cosy cottage in the historic village of Cromford - home of Richard Arkwright's first mill - Arkwright Mill. The cottage can accommodate up to four people. A lounge, dining kitchen and cloakroom are on the ground floor. The double bedroom on the first floor offers a kingsized bed, whilst the second floor bedroom has a double bed. A newly fitted shower room is also on the second floor. Built into the hillside, two terraces are located at the rear of the cottage.
The property is an old mill workers cottage and retains many original features. These include grit stone fireplaces in the lounge and both bedrooms, exposed beans and the original steep and narrow internal stairs - a bit of a challenge for some! Outside, the garden is built into the hillside and two small terraces are offered - accessed by original, rather steep, stone steps.
The cottage is located approximately five minutes walk from the centre of the village of Cromford. There is a public house (The Boat House) just a few minutes walk away which serves very good home made food. There is also a very good restaurant/tappas bar as well as a centrally located hotel - The Greyhound - which serves very good food. In addition, Cromford has a Fish and Chip Shop. Historical visitors attractions are within walking distance of the cottage including Cromford Mill, and Cromford Canal which offers barge trips as well as pretty walks. Other walks are also available directly from the cottage. Matlock Bath and Matlock are within walking distance (approx 20 minute walk) and attractions a little further afield (approx 30 minutes drive) include Chatsworth House and Bakewell.

A lovely, traditional little terraced cottage located high above Matlock Bath, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Pretty, comfortable and sympathetically furnished throughout, this Matlock Bath cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy the delights of this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Despite being only a few minutes from the centre of Matlock Bath, the cottage is on a tranquil terrace high above the bustle. It's warm in winter and cool in the summer. Despite being new to Airbnb, we have been letting this property to great reviews for over four years.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet, but Matlock Bath is full of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are lots of things to do including taking the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham or walking along the river and canal or up in the hills.

17 The Lanes, a sympathetically refurbished ex miners cottage, provides character with modern convenience. It has a cosy lounge with log burner, well fitted kitchen and a peaceful, secure garden for relaxing with a glass of wine or local beer. Dog friendly (£25 extra) with fabulous walking and cycling from the door step. Situated in Bolehill, a short walk from Wirksworth centre, it's superbly situated for exploring the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District. 4 Miles from Matlock,
Wirksworth is a small market town on the edge of the Peak District. Nestled in the Bolehill area high above the town, 17 The lanes is perfectly located for exploring the quirks of Wirksworth and delights of the surrounding Peak District and Derbyshire Dales. There is fabulous walking and cycling from the doorstep. This is a perfect location for enjoying all sorts of outdoor activities or just to use as a base to explore the area. Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell, Haddon Hall and Chatsworth are all within very easy reach and Carsington Water is only a mile away. The high peak trail is on our doorstep along with glorious walking and cycling. There is also secure storage for bikes or other sports equipment in a brick store directly opposite the cottage. Wirksworth punches well above its small size in terms of its thriving community and many activities. The town’s welcome sign proclaims it the ‘gem of the peak’ and its not wrong. The cottage itself offers a comfortable size lounge with log burner (logs provided), free WiFi, Freeview TV with built in DVD player, Netflix and a selection of DVD’s, games and books. Maps and walking books are also provided. Dogs are very welcome but we do ask that they are not allowed on the furniture or beds. We charge £25 extra for dogs. Parking is available at the cottage for one vehicle. Please note that the cottage is built into a hillside so that the garden is accessed from the first floor across a small footbridge. There are drops to retain two sides of the garden from the cottage but these are well fenced with fencing approximately 3'6" high. It is not suitable for wheel chair access.
The words quirky, different and special are often used to describe Wirksworth. A fascinating small town on the Southern edge of the Peak District where the geology and landscape have shaped its character and its people for generations. On a Royal visit, Prince Charles once referred to the town as ‘Quirksworth’. Having had an industrious past and mixed fortunes relating to the industry available, Wirksworth is now known for its independent shops and cafes, annual arts festival, bustling music scene and dozens of artists and creatives who live and work in the town. The town is nestled at the head of the Ecclesbourne Valley surrounded by beautiful countryside with delightful walks and stunning views. The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (Derbyshires longest heritage railway) is a stone's throw away.

A cosy, quirky 17th/19th century cottage with simple charm. Small, stone, single storey one bed dwelling that used to be the village shop. Log burner in the spacious lounge. A kitchen with everything you need and it's own secret garden with views of Riber castle which can be seen whilst sitting in the rustic garden room. Ideally located for exploring the Peak District National park and the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. Matlock 2.5 miles away with pubs, supermarket, restaurants, shops etc.
The cottage will be at your complete disposal, from the photos you can see there is a spacious lounge, a compact but fully working kitchen with all the utensils you require, if the weather is bad you could build a log fire and bake a cake! A spacious double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with a large walk in shower. Included in the price is bedding, linen and towels, tea, coffee and sugar. There is a log burner but you need to bring your own logs. First fire made up. Parking is on the road outside the cottage or just down the hill in the village square. Number 3 used to be the old village shop built in the 19th Century but some parts date back to the 17th Century! The outside space includes a small garden with a rustic garden room where you can enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying the distant view of Riber Castle or just lock up your bikes. From the garden a gate opens onto to the public footpath that takes you down to Wensley Dale, a very beautiful area with rare breed sheep wandering around and wild flowers everywhere. From here you could walk into Snitterton or climb Oaker Hill the views are stunning!
Thank you for looking at Needham Cottage, Wensley. A pretty stone village which was once a thriving lead miners community. The garden can be reached via the ginnel, ie turn left from the back door, keep walking until you see the gate with Number Three on it, that is us. Here you can enjoy the view and see Riber Castle in the distance. Togetherwith the unusual upcycled garden room, table and chairs. A public footpath passes the garden gate and this leads you down into Wensley Dale, not the Wensleydale where the cheese comes from but our own dale of outstanding natural beauty. The Area The Derbyshire Dales is a place of wooded valleys, with an occasional steam train chugging through, passing sparkling rivers with their ancient stone bridges and rolling green hills sprinkled with picturesque villages with their unique shops, cosy pubs and cobbled yards. Don't miss the Barley Mow at Bonsal or Wirksworth. There is plenty to do and see from arts and crafts festivals, pop festivals, antiques shops and fairs, markets, historic houses like Chatsworth and medieval Haddon Hall. In addition to this there is the world heritage site in the Derwent Valley for historians of all things industrial including Richard Arkwright's Cromford and Masson Cotton Mills, at Cromford. The summer events list is endless with Well Dressings from May to September, The International Hen Racing Championships are hillarious, beer festivals, the spa town of Matlock Bath with its theme park, The Heights of Abraham, the arcades and pubs with live music are about 4 miles away and not forgetting Matlock itself, only 2.5 miles downhill a pleasant market town with the river Derwent running through it, a lovely park with boating lake, several pubs, wine bars, music venue, market day is Wednesday, there is a large Sainsburys, (supermarket) Wilkos, Iceland and unique shops. etc. Parking for the cottage is either outside on the Main Road or in the village square just a short walk away. Thank you again for looking at Needham Cottage.

One bedroom holiday let, located on the ground floor of a period townhouse, very spacious Victorian property. Additional sleeping for 2 is provided with a small bed settee to the living room, think camper van size. Pets welcome but normal care for sofas and beds requested. The holiday let has its own entrance and is completely self contained, but is part of the main house. The apartment is self check in, and self catered. Parking is on the front of the house but is up the curb to pull on.
The apartment has one bedroom, bathroom off living room, a living room (with bed settee) and a kitchen with dining area. The kitchen has a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, range cooker, Dolce Gusto coffee maker, toaster and kettle. There is a table for four in the living room. The sofa in bedroom opens to make a child's single bed if you want a child in with you, the sofa in the living room opens to make a small double. If you let me know your needs I’ll make up to your request. Central heating is on a timer, but there is an open fire place in the living room as well as an oil filled radiator. There is no convenience store in the village, the nearest is Matlock (15/20 walk or couple of minutes in the car), so best to bring essentials if arriving late. Please not this is self catered, I might leave some things as back up for late arrivals only. Parking on the front pulled onto up the curb, best with the flow of traffic, space for a large van, so easily accommodates a normal car, just needs a bit of care, parking is a bit of a premium in the village.
Quaint Derbyshire village, famous for its attractions, lively pubs in the summer weekends, and fish and chips; great walking and beautiful scenery all around. Climbing, canoeing and mountain biking all from the house if you're more adventurous.
  • Perfectamente situado.

Muchas gracias Mike.

Open living/kitchen/diner with vaulted ceiling and luxury wood burning stove. Flooded with light from skylight, double height window and quirky stable door. Comfortable double bedroom. Secluded and peaceful location near charming limestone Derbyshire dales village of Kirk Ireton in farm complex. Long reaching views from garden down picturesque valley. Relaxing haven with trees rustling outside; resident owls, swallows and bats. Close to Carsington Water and easy access to Peaks.
Covered porch entrance (with nesting swallows) down two steps into entrance hall with same floor access to living room, bedroom and bathroom. Open plan living room. This is a bright airy room with brand new HETAS registered wood burning stove (starter fuel pack provided during colder weather), bed settee (bed linen provided on request) kitchen units, double fan oven, 4 ring hob, microwave and fridge. Oak dining table and 3 chairs (high chair available on request) near stable door (second entrance to holiday let without steps from parking area). TV and DVD player. WiFi available but unreliable! The rural network is poor at times. Limited mobile network too I’m afraid. Spacious and comfortable double bedroom. Bed linen and towels provided. Child’s cot available on request. Bathroom with electric shower over bath, toilet and washbasin. Outside: a rustic bench on the doorstep to soak up the morning sun with a morning coffee. Ample private parking in farmyard in front of barns. Mature trees including silver birch providing natural shade. Small table and chairs positioned for a drink with a view. The green cushions are for outdoor use so please feel free to take these outside during your stay. Swallows, owls and more regular garden birds spotted and heard daily. There are a pair of buzzards who cross the drive and nest in the neighbouring woodland. We also have bats living in our conservatory roof so these can be seen easily at dusk swooping around. Ducks and a heron visit main farm house pond on occasion too.
We moved to derbyshire 4 years ago and couldn’t believe our luck when we found Alton Nether Farm. A real slice of paradise. Away from bustling crowds and surrounded by beautiful countryside. If you like walking, cycling, sailing, rock climbing, bird watching or simply relaxing this is the place for you! Kirk Ireton is a charming limestone village nestling in the hills above Wirksworth and a lovely walk down to Carsington Water. The idyllic rural village has an extremely well stocked community shop and a traditional gabled inn the Barley Mow. Wirksworth itself is a gem of a town with a traditional market, a surprising selection of good quality restaurants and even an independent cinema; somewhere you can forget the rigours of modern life. Carsington Water offers bike hire, kayaking, sailing and nature reserves to mention a few of the many leisure facilities available. Also nearby is the historic Cromford with Arkwright’s Mills, the Tissington Trail, Alport Heights and of course the beautiful peaks just a short drive away. Our favourite places to eat out are The Cock Inn in Muggington, just 10 minutes drive or a little slice of France at Le Mistral in Wirksworth. Everything you need for a wonderful holiday whether for a short romantic break or a full week.

Situated on the A6, with Chatsworth and Haddon Hall just a short drive away, my house is a great base for exploring the Peak District. Hop on a bus from outside my front door and you can easily be in Buxton, Bakewell (5 miles) or Matlock (3 miles).
A quiet twin room at the back of the house with views over the rooftops to Stanton Moor. There is a private bathroom which is downstairs, not en-suite.
Step away from the main road and this is a quiet residential area. There are two pubs nearby and steam trains from Peak Rail chug along the track just 100 yards away. From my house you can be in any of the Peak District's main attractions in less than an hour by car and if you want to find somewhere off the beaten track - I can tell you where to look.

Spring Cottage is tucked away in a beautiful, rural part of the Derbyshire Dales. The views are special and guests are welcome to sit in and walk around the garden. There are fabulous circular walks, from our door, varying from 30 mins - all day. We (Ali and John) work in agriculture, have a small menagerie and have many countryside interests. We will be pleased to chat with guests or to give privacy. We can collect guests from nearby stations and assist in other ways by prior arrangement.
The old part of Spring Cottage dates from the 18th Century. In addition to the bedroom and adjacent shower room (in the old bit), guests can use our large sitting room (new bit) as their breakfast room and somewhere to sit and relax. There is a book exchange, games and a log burner which we are happy to light on cooler evenings. There is also a mini fridge, which will be stocked with milk, bread, water (from our own spring supply) and other DIY breakfast foods, as arranged prior to your stay. As well as hot drink and toast making facilities in this room, there is a hospitality tray in the bedroom. For warmer weather there is a sitting out area and our guests will always be welcome in the garden and to walk around our small area of woodland; especially if you bring your gardening gloves! There is parking right outside the cottage. If staying with us in Spring there will be a few lambs to see in addition to our poultry, cat and two dogs.
The view from our garden across the Derwent Valley to Crich Stand, the Sherwood Foresters memorial, is fabulous. All of the cottage windows look out onto the garden, fields and woodlands. It is a lovely location within the Derbyshire Dales. Just 5 minutes in the car (or a 30-40 mins walk over the fields) gets you to The Family Tree, a great place to have a cooked breakfast, lunch or tea and cake. The character-filled small market town of Wirksworth is within 10 minutes drive. Belper (High Street of the Year 2020), Matlock, Matlock Bath, Ashbourne and Bakewell are also within easy reach for eating out, nice shopping, antiques and local history museums. Crich Tramway Museum and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Sites are close by and Derbyshire offers a wealth of fabulous landscapes and beautiful gardens.

Set in the conservation area, this 18th century stable, looks out on a lovely cobbled courtyard, and has a private garden. This small, quirky property is located down the side of the main house. Wirksworth has a good range of pubs, restaurants and shops. The town is just a minute walk down a steep hill. Cyclists can store their bikes in the shed. Dogs are not allowed, sorry. There is no bath - but there is a shower. Free parking is available in the town.
Downstairs has a useful kitchen corner with microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge. There is a small dining table, and a sitting area with TV, DVD, CD and radio facilities, with a few CDs and DVDs - but you might like to bring your favourite CDs and DVDs. Upstairs has a small but cosy double bed and a shower room with toilet and wash basin. The exposed sandstone walls give the bedroom a special charm, and the room is approached up a narrow but lovely oak staircase. There is an outside lockable shed for storing your bikes.
Greenhill is a well known and much loved part of Wirksworth, but quite a climb! The Star DIsc, at the top of the hill, is a wonderful installation, showing the main stars. Also there are some good walks that start at the top of the hill.
