Acres of garden including the safe south-facing enclosed area, and limitless parking. Traditional farmhouse kitchen with Aga, 3 large reception rooms with wood burners. Beautiful walks, 15 mins from Jurassic coast. Loads to do in the area, footpaths and forest. Baby, child, and seniors friendly. Good dogs are also welcome!

Located in the heart of Hardy Country and 15-20 minutes from the sea, it's the perfect location for a fabulous family celebration or holiday. England's first natural World Heritage Site; The Jurassic Coast, with its huge range of interesting beaches, is only 20 minutes away. On chilly nights light the wood-burners in both the large sitting rooms, and snuggle down into our comfy, cosy sofas. Or play the piano, and recorder, and have a sing-song! The Premier drum kit is also available to experienced players on request.
The Farmhouse is set in open countryside in its own grounds, far from the minor road, with three cottages some 300 yards away. Middle Cottage has three bedrooms with a lounge on the ground floor with a breakfast bar. Shower room on the ground floor with another wc upstairs. Basic accommodation generally used for school groups for field trips. No school groups will be at New Barn during your stay. No Kitchen. Set in the middle of 20 acres of our wildflower meadows and woodland, on top of a hill overlooking stunning dorset landscape, yet only 5 mins to Dorchester.
Extremely quite and mellow, with lots of footpaths for country walks, yet the busy seaside town of Weymouth is only 30 mins away or for more serious shopping Bournemouth is around an hour away and Southampton just beyond that.

  • Great value for money. Basic but as described. Hot shower. Comfortable beds. Friendly welcome from the host. Was too cold needed more electric radiators. Needed to have a clean and lick of paint. Nice rural location 20 min from coast

  • We had a lovely time. The country site is beautiful. The distance to the sea sight is only 20 minutes. Matt is very nice and helpful.

  • Very basic accommodation as described. Matt was a very friendly and obliging host and the kids loved feeding the animals on site.

  • Matthew and the staff at the New Barn centre were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The setting is an idyllic, rural area and was conveniently placed for us to attend a family get together on the other side of Dorchester. The cottage was very basic as described, though here fell a bit below my expectations. Further, finding the place was difficult as we used the post code on the Sat Nav which sent us to an almost impossible road to traverse. Overall however, the cottage did the job and provided a very nice setting to enjoy.

Simple but stylish self-contained annexe attached to Grade II listed country house built 1840. Requisitioned by Canadians in World War II for D-Day landings. A peaceful retreat in the village of Osmington, Dorset. Very near the Southwest coastal footpath and the famous Jurassic coastline. Large garden available to enjoy. Minimum stay 2 nights.
The whole space is self contained and has its own entrance. This is through the white gate at the top in photograph 6 showing side view of Artist's Retreat. Car parking available for 2/4 cars in front of the owner's house. The road leading up and out of the Annexe is a hard track - see photos. The main bedroom has a double bed looking out over garden. To enter the main bedroom you have to go through the space which has the 2 single beds. Bathroom is in a separate private space next to both bedrooms, and has a shower, loo and washbasin. Please note this property is NOT suitable for toddlers. (ie between the ages of one and five).
Quiet village location where the painter Sir John Constable honeymooned and painted. Close to many beautiful locations to interest the Thomas Hardy enthusiast including the cottage where he was born. It is located deep in the woods which are covered with bluebells around Easter. Many of the places mentioned below such as Maiden Castle and Weymouth Bay were used in the Julie Christie version of Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy. Stunning walks along Jurassic coast are easily accessible. You can head off on foot from Artist's Retreat and spend the day walking to and from Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove ( see photos). Swimming is also possible from various locations along the route. Osmington Mills is the nearest access to sea - 15 min walk from house or 3 mins by car. It also offers the Smugglers Inn where lunches and suppers are served. For others restaurants research Weymouth and Portland. The Oasis Cafe, 10mins drive away towards Weymouth and right on the beach does breakfast, brunch, lunch and suppers (weekends only). Wind and kite surfers use this beach to launch from. There is a good fish and chip shop (takeaway) called Stacey's, 5 mins drive away just down the main road at the bottom of the hill with the white horse etched out on the hillside. The Crab Shack Cafe close to Portland offers a more expensive fresh seafood meal (advisable to book). Weymouth Harbour which is very pretty and often hosts interesting old sailing boats offers other restaurants varying in price, including a Prezzos and fish and chips. It was also used in the 2017 film version of Dunkirk. Dorchester (20 mins drive) is another popular place to eat and has a Carluccios, Pizza Express, Cote and Wagamamas in the Old Brewery. For a 'vintage' and very friendly experience try Re-Loved on the main shopping street. Further afield is Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River cafe near Axminster (advisable to book) but make a day out and visit Lyme Regis or Mapperton House (where the Cary Mulligan/Far from the Madding crowd was filmed) on the way. Beaminster near Bridport has the lovely Brassica restaurant which has excellent food at good prices (advisable to book). The South West Coast Path can be started from Osmington Mills if wished or Ringstead. One swiftly mounts to the higher and more dramatic cliffs at Whitenothe and then on to Bat's Head, Durdle Door and Lulworth. As a cliff walk it is without equal, an absolute roller coaster that gets even better to the east of Lulworth Cove which is owned by the MOD. (Before heading east of Lulworth make sure that the Lulworth Gunnery Range is open to the public. It is safe to walk when the red flags are not flying - ie. most weekends). The horseshoe hollow of Worbarrow Bay is every bit as lovely as Lulworth, after which the Purbeck coast throws up one surprise after another. First, the gaunt crags of Gad Cliff; then Kimmeridge and its marine reserve, followed by the Norman chapel on St Aldhelm’s Head and the tide-washed terraces of Dancing Ledge. And finally, beyond Swanage, the procession of sculpted cliffs and towering chalk stacks known as Old Harry Rocks, marking the end of the Jurassic Coast. Ringstead Bay is 10 mins drive or 30 mins walk away with a little basic cafe and shop. (charges for parking). This also has a launch/beach for small sailing craft, kayaks, windsurfers and kite surfers. You can swim from Ringstead and the sea sometimes offers waves for surfers. For more surfing look to Kimmeridge. Most of the coast nearby offers beautiful swimming in its clean waters and the host can recommend advice on safety and areas which are more isolated. Weymouth Sands beach offers the Blue Flag clean and very safe lifeguarded bay where King George III bathed and along the front is Lawrence of Arabia's favourite bar. He would drive from his house, Clouds Hill at Moreton (NT property), and park his 998cc Brough Superior "Rolls Royce of motorcycles" outside the Royal Hotel. Weymouth has a very pretty Georgian frontage where one can walk along the promenade and appreciate a classic 'Punch and Judy' experience on a small scale. There are less crowded areas such as the Greenhill area near the Sealife Centre where children and adults can swim and play in the sand (just a little distance up from Weymouth Sands). It also has lifeguards and in the summer two swimming rafts. For teenage boys/girls there is a skatepark near the Sea Life Centre( charges). In Dorchester the skatepark if free. Sailing (including boat hire and lessons) is available at the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy which staged the 2012 Sailing Olympics. It is located along the road to Portland. Portland harbour is a favourite for windsurfers. Portland is an interesting area. Its charm is not instantly appreciated but in May and June the walk along the cliffs is lovely with its wild flowers, peregrine falcons and coastal views. In high winds at Portland Bill Lighthouse (open to the public) as the sea crashes against its famous stone cliffs one has an opportunity to behold the power of the sea and be given a guaranteed thrill. You can swim at Church Ope cove and a genuine pirates gravestone with its carved hourglass can be found on the walk down. The water in the cove has a unique cloudy turquoise blue colour due to the white stoned sea floor. The Chesil Beach which joins the mainland at Weymouth to the Isle of Portand is one of the geological wonders of the world. The enormous bank of pebble beach is worth the climb and again is exhilarating in high winds. It is majestic in its size and sweep and quite something to experience. Drive to the Portland Heights Hotel to see it from above and melt into the distance towards West bay and Lyme Regis. The Fleet which is a desolate lagoon runs along the coast behind the Chesil beach has another unique atmosphere. It leads to places such as Abbotsbury with its 14th century Chapel and Tithe Barn (largest in England), Swannery and Sub-Tropical gardens which are all places worth seeing, especially at Easter when the camellias and rhododendrons are out. Seeing the baby swans and eggs in the Spring is very exciting and fun for all ages. For fossil hunters and lovers of The French Lieutenant's Woman Lyme Regis makes for a lovely day out with its famous stone cobb and walk along its romantic undercliff. Chideock and Charmouth are the places to find fossils. Maiden Castle is an Iron Age Hill fort just outside Dorchester. See it for its size as it is the largest in Europe. Children of all ages enjoy climbing its enormous dips and hollows. Many people find Bovington Tank Museum interesting, exciting and useful on a wet day. It is not far away and just above Lulworth Cove. Finally, Craigs Dairy is a walk up the drive and across the main road from the Artist's Retreat where one can buy a takeaway cup of fresh coffee, fresh meat, milk, eggs and other food necessities. It also offers a tearoom, Farm Shop and their own dairy made ice-cream. For other shops there is a small Co-op and Spa in Preston down towards Weymouth (5 mins). An Asda near the harbour, a big Co-op near Littlemoor, a Morrisons in Weymouth on the Dorchester road and a Waitrose in Dorchester.

Quiet location, found in central Dorchester in a tree lined Avenue. Close enough to central Dorchester but also close enough to beautiful walks and cycle routes.

  • Mike and Claire's place is very comfortable and well appointed with everything needed for a stay in Dorchester. The rooms were spacious and warm, the beds comfortable, and Mike and Claire were very welcoming and helpful with advice, as well as providing a generous range of breakfast options. The nearby Brewery Quarter offered a range of food choices, and Dorchester is located close to the towns and beaches of the Jurrasic coast with lots to see and do. I would thoroughly recommend a stay at Mike and Claire's place.

  • We had a great short stay at Simon's place. Simon was very prompt with communication which made arranging the booking and finding the place very easy. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable and we felt really welcome in his place. There was a good selection of breakfast available to help ourselves to which was a nice touch. David (Simon's housemate) was really helpful when we arrived and gave us some good local suggestions. All in all, a pleasant experience. Thanks Simon!

Airy first floor double room in relaxed household. Coffee and tea making facilities available in room. Our home with lovely walled garden is over 250 years old and backs onto a park. Easy walking to town centre (5 mins) and to trains and buses ( 15 mins). Please note there is no parking at the house, but some free street parking and municipal carparks nearby. The sofabed is a narrow double - better for two children than two adults! Shared bathroom and use of sauna included.
We've worked hard to make this rambling old house into a welcoming family home, with a huge farmhouse style kitchen at its heart and filled with curios from our travels. You can cosy up in front of a log burner in the winter, or enjoy a sauna during your stay, on request. We are vegetarians and keen walkers, happy to recommend local eateries, great Dorset countryside and coastal walks or beaches.
Fordington has a real village feel - old houses, church, corner shop and fish and chip shop around a village green with pretty trees- yet we can walk into town in 5 minutes! Dorchester is a lively county town within easy reach of stunning Dorset countryside and beautiful beaches.

A downstairs double bedroom with large ensuite, in our lovely 18century artistic house in central Dorchester. Ideal for weekend breaks or a holiday base to explore the area. Weymouth, the Jurassic coast, Thomas Hardy's house and cottage and beautiful Dorset countryside are all within very easy access. There are 3 small steps to the room.
I am an artist/musician, working from home, so I am often around during the daytime and happy to advise about the local area. We have lived here for 18 years in this very unusual house, which was part of an agricultural complex, most of which has been turned into other interesting houses around the Fordington area of Dorchester. The room is on the ground floor and I hope very accessible. Wheel chair users may find it rather tight, but there are only 3 shallow steps up into the room and everywhere else is flat. As a diabetic, I am aware of dietary concerns. We offer a light continental breakfast with Cereal, croissants/toast, yoghurt, fruit and boiled eggs. If I am home then I can offer porridge, with milk or especially for diabetics and/or with Soya milk and it's delicious! We have a lovely medium sized dog, Worthington who is a Jack Russel/Spaniel cross and very friendly and easy going. Our house is full of architectural features and we have a lovely sunny porch and a garden gallery/leisure space. You come into our flag-stoned back hall, through the kitchen and into the bedroom. There is a large comfortable double bed, a chest of drawers and hanging space. The window looks onto the garden at the back. The bathroom has a shower and very large bath and lots of space.
Thomas Hardy, the famous Victorian author, lived just up the road at Max Gate and was born a short walk or drive away. Dorchester (or Casterbridge as he called it) is a very interesting old market town, with history right back to Neolithic and Roman times. Maiden Castle is the largest iron-age fortress in the country and is very well preserved. If it is raining then there are children's museums in the town centre. There is a lot going on in the arts in the summer with outdoor theatre, festivals, etc. Weymouth is a wonderful traditional seaside resort with a large sandy beach. But there are many smaller beaches as well as the magnificent Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic Coast and fossils to find at Charmouth.

The front door and the house's simple exterior look out onto The Green and the 12th century church of St. George. It is a perfect place to unwind and relax after a busy day exploring the beautiful Dorset countryside. If you are not too tired, a short walk in the evening, will take you to many of the bars and restaurants in the town, where you can enjoy a meal and a drink.
The house is situated ten minutes walk away from the historic centre of the county town & the new development of Brewery Square, hosting a variety pubs & restaurants. Dorchester is home to Thomas Hardey & an ideal location to explore the surrounding countryside & lovely Purbecks. Visit the Jurassic Coast which is only 9 miles away. There are National Trust Houses and spectacular gardens to wander around and golf courses if you fancy a game.
People are very friendly, a good community spirit. The house actually adjoins the corner shop and it overlooks the Green. St George's Church is opposite, the house is an ideal place to stay if you are a guest at one of the many weddings.

The Little House is a small, brick built 18th century cottage situated in the heart of the county town of Dorchester in a peaceful setting close to the river. The cottage has recently been renovated to a high standard and is tastefully furnished with a mixture of vintage and contemporary furniture. It has a small walled garden which provides a tranquil area to relax in. The cottage is accessed by a cobbled pedestrian pathway off the main High Street where there is on road, ticketed parking.
The Little house offers beautiful , light boutique accommodation with stunning glass balustrades, feature fittings and a bespoke painted kitchen. All the furniture and fittings are coordinated and provide a fresh , contemporary feel to the interior . Please see website (Website hidden by Airbnb) for more detail.
The house is set just off the main High street in an idyllic, cobbled lane that leads to the river. From here you can walk along the river walks crossing the ancient water meadows to reach open country side.
  • Genossen unseren Aufenthalt im Little House.

  • Really lovely house, very homely and comfy. The location was brilliant with Parking outside for specific hours and the car park not far away. The photos make the house look bigger but it really is a little house! Ideal for a lovely weekend away as a couple! Lovely place and would recommend it to anyone!

Recommande fortement!

  • A beautiful little cottage tucked away off the main high street. The cottage itself was light and modern but definitely little. But this was perfect for a weekend retreat for 2. We enjoyed the cottage garden. It is a tranquil outside space... Lovely for a breakfast if the weather is sunny and warm.. Luckily it was for us. It is situated off the main high street... Parking wasn't a issue at all. Dorchester was perfectly suited for us to take a trips to the coast each day. Great location and beautiful cottage. Would definitely recommend.

Quaint and cosy Grade II Listed 18th century cottage built of rubble stone from the medieval town prison, and close to the historic attractions, museums and shops of delightful Dorchester.
Our home is located on one of Dorchester's oldest (and reputedly most haunted) streets, at one time known as Old Gaol Lane. From 1305 until the mid 18th century the town gallows were sited at the south end, with the gaol on the corner joining High East Street. From the gaol, the condemned were carted up the narrow lane to Gallows Hill, being allowed a final refreshment at the (long disappeared) Bell Inn before their execution. It is said that on cold dark nights the sound of horses dragging prisoners to their grisly demise can still be heard.
Set deep in the heart of 'Hardy's Wessex' and surrounded by captivating, unspoiled countryside, ancient and enchanting Dorchester has been the county town of Dorset since at least the early 14th century. It nestles in the Frome valley, between the rolling Dorset Downs and the archaeologically rich South Dorset Ridgeway, with the breathtaking Jurassic Coast and Weymouth's golden sands just a few miles away to the south. The town has a rich and fascinating history, with the first tribes settling in the surrounding area from around 4,000 B.C. In A.D. 43, the Roman Second Legion under Vespasian conquered the Celtic Durotriges tribe at Maiden Castle hill fort and established a garrison a couple of miles to the north west, on the south bank of the river Frome. By about A.D. 70 this garrison had given rise to the new town of Durnovaria, which over the course of the Roman occupation was enclosed by stone walls (a fragment survives at Top o' Town) and supplied with running water by an aqueduct (traces of which remain visible). Additionally, an ancient Neolithic henge was adapted for an ampitheatre (Maumbury Rings - a short walk from our door). Following the Romans' departure, the town fell into decay but was revived under the Saxons as Dornwercestre, and during the Middle Ages grew into an important regional commercial and political centre (King John was a frequent if unwelcome visitor to the castle in the early 13th century). The town was a Puritan stronghold at the outbreak of the English Civil Wars in 1642 and Parliamentarians remodelled Maumbury Rings into an artillery fort. In 1685, in what is now the Oak Tea Rooms, the notorious 'Hanging Judge' Jeffreys presided over the 'Bloody Assizes' that marked the end of the Duke of Monmouth's ill-fated rebellion. Shire Hall, on High West Street, is famous as the location of the Tolpuddle Martyrs' trial in 1834. After visiting in the early 18th century, Daniel Defoe remarked, 'a man that coveted a retreat in this world might as agreeably spend his time, and as well, in Dorchester, as in any town I know in England'. Dorchester remains today a traditional but bustling market town. Poundbury, a unique 'urban village' extension built on architectural principles advocated by the Prince of Wales, is due for completion by 2025. While Brewery Square, the ambitious redevelopment of the Eldridge Pope brewery site, is proceeding in phases. The town is twinned with Bayeux in France, Lübbecke in Germany and Holbæk in Denmark. As well as boasting five museums, numerous listed buildings, and one of the handsomest high streets in England, Dorchester has links with many renowned writers, including dialect poet William Barnes and the Powys brothers - Llewelyn, Theodore Francis & John Cowper. It has also the distinction of having been the home and inspiration for novelist and poet Thomas Hardy, whose celebrated 'The Mayor of Casterbridge' is based on a fictionalised Dorchester (the building on which Hardy modelled Michael Henchard's house is located on South Street).

  • Vikki's place is very nice. The bedroom is cosy and has a nice view on the garden, with a nice light. Vikki was very welcoming. The organization was very easy. The breakfast was really good :) .

  • Staying with Vikki and Chris for 1 night was perhaps the best AirBnB experience we have had to date. When we mentioned this, Vikki told us that she likes to treat her guests how she would like to be treated - and we were so glad she does. She and Chris were warm and welcoming from the start. The house is beautiful yet homely; the guest room lovely, light and airy. In the attractive room you can enjoy the balcony - very welcome in the Summer heat - comfortable rugs, a soft bed and excellent WiFi. In the morning Vikki laid out a lovely selection of fruit and cereal, and we had a much needed tea and coffee. As a bonus, the house is situated centrally in Dorchester, very close to the train station. We would not hesitate to stay here again the next time we visit Dorchester - would highly recommend.

  • Vikki and Chris are such lovely hosts! The house is charming and spacious with a lot of character. The bedroom was clean, as was the bathroom, which was very close. We slept like logs! And there’s a small balcony out onto the garden. In the morning, there was breakfast on the table and we had a lovely chat in their cosy and bright conservatory. We had a wonderful weekend, really recommend it and we will definitely be coming again! Thank you so much!

Upwey is a characterful village between Dorchester and Weymouth. It is central to all the attractions that Dorset has to offer. Weymouth and beaches are 10 minutes drive. Quieter beaches are all around too and we can give you advice on those. There are many walks in the local area. From the cottage it is a 15 minute walk up the hill behind to then get great views over the coast and access to the Dorset coastal path. More gentle walks are available around the village, along the river, maybe calling into the Wishing Well Cafe for tea and cake. We are in a great location for cycling. There are cycle pathways into Weymouth and Dorchester. For those that like it muddier then cycling up on the Ridgeway is great. I am always happy to give cycling advice as I've done quite a bit locally. Bikes can be taken into the garden and kept near the cottage. Please feel free to use the lower two lawns in the property.

My place is close to restaurants and dining, public transport, family-friendly activities, and nightlife. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness and the comfy bed. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers.
Ground floor flat, with own parking, in prime location for exploring Dorset and Poundbury. A large and light double bedroom, with large mirror, rocking chair and clothes rail. There is also a fold up desk, so if you wish to work or study you can use this. Large kitchen with all appliances, cooker, grill, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, juicer and all other kitchen gadgets (no microwave). Cosy living room, with lots of books to make yourself at home with (no TV-I like to get out an explore personally). Bathroom with toilet, bath, electric shower and wash basin. There is space in the apartment to place your own camp bed (please bring your own and extra bedding, and let me know in advance, as there is an extra charge for additional people). There is no private outside space, so if you bring dogs, you will have to take them out for tinkles etc.
I live on Prince Charles estate in Dorchester, Poundbury. It is a very quiet, peaceful and lovely community, i.e everyone says good morning and its lush! The Queen Mother Square is right round the corner with the markets, Waitrose, Garden Centre, Duchess of Cornwall pub if you fancy a bite to eat, and there are many other cafes, galleries and boutiques scattered around, which makes for a nice explore.

My partner (Anna) and I live in a 3 bedroom detached house just 5 minutes walk from Upwey train station and 10 minutes drive to the beach. We have a light, quiet and spacious house. We enjoy cooking vegetarian food and swimming in the sea. We also have 1 friendly cat. The bedroom available to guests has been newly redecorated. It is very spacious with plenty of drawer and wardrobe space to use.
We live in a detached house with private back garden. There is a log fire so cosy in the Winter. The bedroom available has a double bed. The kitchen is a good size and guests can also have drawer space in the fridge freezer should they require it. Guests can also use the washing machine which is located in the kitchen.
We live in a residential neighbourhood. There is a local shop just a 2 minute walk up the road. There are two lovely local pubs a short walk away (10-15 minutes walk), and the local supermarkets are about a 5 minute drive away. The countryside is on our doorstep and the jurrasic coast and sea are just a short ten minute drive. We're also within easy reach of Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Chesil Beach, Portland, West Bay (for any Broadchurch fans) and the Cern giant.

  • Such a warm and happy couple. Feels like a real home, beautifully renovated by Ross and Anna

    Sylvia2018-06-15T00:00:00Z

  • Jacqui and her husband made us feel completely at home in 'The Condo'. This was our first family break away together (with our 4 month old daughter) it was everything we needed and more. The condo is extremely cosy, stylish and spacious - the pictures don't do it enough justice. The outside space was perfect for BBQ's in the evening and ofcourse the pool which we took full advantage of over the weekend. The hamper was a lovely welcome gesture - the biscuits were delicous and lasted all of about ten minutes! Oops! We regretted we hadn't booked on for a longer stay. The condo is also close to all the action but once you are back again you feel totally at peace and far away from any madness. A perfect little escape and I couldn't reccomend it anymore. Thanks so much, we will be back. Lauren, Nick and Elsie :)

Lovely cottage with large garden on the edge of Dorchester. Easy access to Jurassic coast beaches and Thomas Hardy places of interest. Outside eating area with large fire pit. The house has 3 double bedrooms and a study with a sofa bed. It has a living room with a log burner, a conservatory and a very large kitchen diner. There is a family bathroom with a shower and bathtub, an en-suite shower room to bedroom 1 and a downstairs toilet with sink.
Very private garden, parking for up to 6 cars. Views of Maiden Castle Hill Fort, surrounded by fields/trees on 3 sides and easy walking distance to Dorchester town centre and local shops. The house is 7 miles from Weymouth beach and not far from all Jurassic coast beaches such as Durdle Door, Lyme Regis and Lulworth Cove. Easy access to Thomas Hardy's cottage and lovely woodland and country walks. Cycle paths all the way to Portland from the house.
Dorchester is a lovely old town in Dorset close to beautiful beaches and areas of outstanding beauty. Dorset is a county of rolling fields, breathtaking coastal scenery, quaint old English villages and country pubs.
  • This was great place for a family holiday. The house and garden were lovely, with lots of space for 7 of us, and fantastic extra touches including a great welcome pack and loads of toys for the kids. Easy access to sights around Dorset and a top tip from our hosts that sent us paddling in a local river with a cream tea afterwards. We'd happily come back here another time.

  • We really enjoyed our short stay at the studio. Sue and Phil were very welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts, and were willing to suggest interesting places to visit in the area. The studio is very cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed. It is set in a beautiful country location, yet is still close to Dorchester, and it makes a great base to explore Dorset and the Jurassic coast.

Escape to Birdsong Cottage, you'll be tucked away in the friendly village of Broadmayne. It is cosy and comfortable; you can snuggle on the sofa in front of the log fire or use it as a base to explore the beautiful surrounding areas of West Dorset.
Birdsong Cottage is a home away from home. A quirky 1800's end of terrace with a secret garden to hide away in. A cosy living room with a log burning fire and exposed brick wall being the main features. Space to dine in candlelight at the compact dining table. A well equipped kitchen is at the back of the property with all amenities to prepare and enjoy food and wine! Up the wooden stairs and you'll find a beautifully light room with a king sized bed to crash on after a long day exploring the local area. Next to the bedroom there is a shower room. Out the front there is a fenced garden (currently in renovation) for relaxing in the sunshine or for your furry friend (well behaved dog).
Once you've experienced the friendly atmosphere of South view terrace you won't want to leave. Broadmayne itself has a playing field, park, post office and a well stocked village shop. The cottage is 50m from the Black Dog pub, excellent for a pint of the cold local beer and a fantastic portion of chips. You can walk out the front door, across the road and be looking down on views of Weymouth, Portland and surrounding countryside within 30 minutes. 4 miles west is the town of Dorchester, with fine dining, shopping and entertainment including museums associated with the Jurassic coast for those not so sunny days. You could get lost in a book sitting in a cafe enjoying the coffee culture, one of my favourites being Finca, a relaxed, rustic cafe with 5* independent coffee. 4 miles South and you're at my favourite spot, Ringstead Bay. This is a stony beach with a natural reef making it the perfect safe swim spot. Paddle boards and kayaks are often seen being taken for an outing from this quaint bay. A cafe for refreshments and last minute toilet stop/suncream is just near the car park. From here you can walk miles along the purbecks to Durdle door and Lulworth Cove. For a more seaside feel and the hustle and bustle of a busier town, Weymouth is a 15 minute drive. Sandy beaches, hundreds of restaurants and cafes catering for all. You can crash out all day on a deckchair in the sun or explore the towns nooks and crannies. Not far from Weymouth is the famous Chesil beach, not to mention Portland. Climbing heaven, with people travelling far and wide to try the coastal routes. More to see include The Tank Museum, Monkey World, Abbotsbury Swannery, Thomas Hardyes House, Athelhampton house and much much more.
  • Birdsong Cottage is a great place to stay, there's a fabulous fireplace for colder days, a garden for when there's sun. I went in search of somewhere away from it all do some writing, and it worked well, I went into Dorchester quite a bit, which is only a few miles away (look for free street parking, much easier than car parks, which mostly seemed to be short stay). Anna was an excellent host, and very quick to reply to messages, it was a pleasure to stay, I'd be keen to book again.

    Josh2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was just right for the two of us and our two dogs. It has everything you could need, we particularly liked the stable door. It's well located to visit the beautiful Dorset coast, we loved Ringstead bay and Lulworth Cove though it was extremely busy! We also visited Hardy's cottage which was lovely for a woodland walk and step back in time. Having the shop nearby was handy for those last minute inevitable forgotten things. Many thanks Anna for being a great host.

    Jason & Sarah2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic little cottage within walking distance to two great pubs. Local small shop also walking distance. Anna’s cottage is small and cosy and full of character with an amazing fire place to relax in front of. The bed was very comfortable and slept extremely well. Would definitely visit again.

    Nikki2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was so quaint and in such a beautiful village. Anna was so accommodating and responded to messages very quickly when we wanted to check anything with her. We loved the location as we chose this area to access Lulworth and monkey world. The bed was comfy, I especially loved the kettle! Such a quaint and cosy cottage! Would recommend! X

    Amy2017-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is nice and cosy and well located to access different beautiful beaches. Anna has been very easy to communicate with and provided all necessary information. It is also a good choice if you like to cook as the kitchen is well equipped. The only critique I have is that the cleaning and checkin of the house after the previous guests could have been done more properly. Would still choose the cottage though, as it is a good choice in terms of cost-benefit.

    Theresa2017-06-13T00:00:00Z
Merci Anna!

    Katie2018-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy cottage and comfy bed. I was a bit put out initially that the path to neighbouring cottages is right past the lounge window but soon discovered they are very discreet and don't peer in as I would have done! Parking can be tricky in the road but I parked outside the Post Office in the main road without problems.
