Writers, artists, musicians, naturalists, social and environmental activists, families, students, travelers, outdoor enthusiasts, and people needing a respite from the buzz of life will enjoy the peace and wonder of our solar homestead and forest. For winter reservations, please read about accessing our home during winter conditions in the "Guest access" section
We have four listings for our home. If by chance you choose a listing and receive a message that conveys it's unavailable, please try other listings. Other spaces: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/287850 https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/277661 https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/287861 About Solar Living in the Emerson Brook Forest: Once the last of our three children moved away, we decided to share our spacious solar powered homestead with others. Oriented for southern exposure, our "off grid" battery-based solar electric homestead had its beginnings in 1981. In addition to being AirBnB hosts, we are proprietors of Green Energy Options Solar Store in Keene, a local resource for energy conservation education, independent power systems and energy efficient appliances and heating. Our home, located 12 miles from the vibrant city of Keene, is a bit of a showcase for our business and philosophy. We have three rooms with queen-sized beds, and one room with a twin sized bed for guests to choose from upon arrival at the house. All of the rooms have special qualities and we continuously get compliments on all of the beds. If by chance the first room listing is filled for a particular calendar day, please look into our other room listings view their availability. On occasion, when needed and possible, we offer our second floor master bedroom with an adjacent living room. This space does not have it’s own bathroom but provides a sense of privacy and accommodates up to four people. Our home has a wheelchair accessible ramp to the main floor bedrooms and bath as well as a separate entrance to our ground level living space, which includes an accessible shower. While our home may not be certified accessible, we welcome inquiries from those who might value our attempt to be inclusive. In addition to our comfy bedrooms, we have a sunroom, an ground-level den with a woodstove, hammock and couch; 2 shared bathrooms (one with a shower the other a bathtub), a living room with piano and couch, as well as south and north facing porches. Two bathrooms offer on-demand heated water for shower or bath. Our open-concept kitchen faces birdfeeders, a fruit orchard and perennial gardens. With some advanced notice and additional fee, we are happy to provide wholesome breakfast and dinner meals made from organic or locally grown ingredients. We also offer the possibility of a wood-fired hot tub during the colder months. Andre, our chocolate lab is just about the sweetest dog we’ve ever met. Being an only child, he received lots of training early on to make him the kind of dog that was more pleasure than work. If he has any flaws, it’s that he’s overly thrilled (for about one minute) to see every new face. We have two cats, Maude and Daenerys who are completely domesticated but exclusively outdoor cats. They help us keep our space mouse free. They eat and sleep in the confines of our back porch where they are safe from their natural predators. Help us keep our promise to cat allergic guests by not intentionally or unintentionally inviting them in. For the well-being of, and out of respect for our resident animals and sometimes poultry, we are unable to host our guest's companion animals.

  • We stayed at Valerie's and Pablo's beautiful solar house and it was a great experience. Their house is spacious and it had everything we needed. From the house we could have nice views of the colourful trees. It was such a lovely place to stay. We highly recommend it.

  • Valerie and Pablo were wonderful hosts! The room was warm and cozy, perfect for our weekend getaway. They let us use their snowshoes, and we took a walk out behind the house, and it was gorgeous. The home cooked meals made for us were amazing as well, all natural and organic ingredients. They taught us to play Mexican train dominoes (I think that's what it's called) and they sang a song and played piano for my wife's birthday. Absolutely amazing hosts, strongly recommended for a retreat out in the woods!

  • Valerie and Pablo are fantastic. Their home is cozy and amazing. And the waffles are fantastic. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay and can't wait to come back. This was our first airbnb experience and it exceeded our expectations.

  • Valerie's place is simply amazing! We arrived a bit later that what we anticipated but she was very kind and accommodating. We wish we could have stayed more at her place :)

  • We had an amazing weekend in Gilsum! The house and surrounding property are beautiful and made for a perfect setting for a relaxing forest getaway. Valerie and Pablo were both extremely friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We really enjoyed talking with them over meals and games in the house, and they also gave us great recommendations for hiking and exploring in the area. Pablo's homemade breakfasts were delicious and included fresh vegetables picked from their garden. On top of all of that, spending time with Andre the adorable lab was a huge highlight! Overall it was a lovely experience and we hope to return in the future!

    Jessie2015-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Valerie and Pablo were welcoming hosts from the beginning to end of our time with them. We arrived late and Valerie met us on the road, ushering us into their space and warmly welcoming us to sit down and enjoy quality conversation with our hosts and the other guests who were also staying at their home. We enjoyed a long night's rest and a phenomenal breakfast thereafter and got to learn a bit more about the home and it's history that morning. There is a lush and beautiful garden surrounding the intentionally constructed home equipped with solar lighting and handmade ceramics and other pieces of art. It's clear that Valerie and Pablo have been intentional about building community and making connections, their home reverberates with an ambience of both of these values. We enjoyed every bit of our stay and will be in touch in the future!

  • Valerie and Pablo are great hosts! They made us feel home, their place is beautiful and welcoming! Valerie was very helpful assisting us when we needed making our stay very smooth. Andre and Willa (their beautiful and loving dogs) guided us in a walk through the wood so we didn't get lost. We had great experience! We will definitely be back!

  • Valerie is amazing! Not only did she build most of the house, she is a great cook, conversationalist, and deeply caring individual. Wish I had been able to stay for breakfast given the delicious dinner I enjoyed the night before. I inadvertently left my computer bag there and only discovered it after driving 4 hours. What could have been an overwhelming problem was taken care of by Valerie and the package arrived at my destination the next day. Thank you sooooo much, Valerie.

Large private balcony with sunset exposure and view of Mt. Monadnock. Bright decor with antiques, comfortable mattress and 100% cotton high thread count sheets. Exceptional vistas from all common areas as well. Convenient location for hikers, skiers, wedding guests and cultural events in Keene, Peterborough, Jaffrey, Harrisville, Hancock and more-- with an exclusive rural feel.
Dublin, with its classic pristine lake and Mt. Monadnock, is one of the historic towns in the Monadnock region known for the arts and outdoor recreation. Our small farm sits perfectly between Dublin Lake and the mountain and Peterborough--a quaint hub with performing theatre, contra dancing, an arts center and fine eateries. This is a rural setting excellent for hiking, long walks along scenic country roads, or exploring mature forest. Plenty of cross-country skiing in the backyard or at local trails. Close to wedding venues like Cobb Hill Estates in Harrisville or those in Jaffrey, Peterborough and Keene.
  • A wonderful place, with beautiful views and a lovely setting. Make sure you get good clear directions, as it is off the beaten path!

  • April's place is a work of art! It was a sheer pleasure to stay at her home. We wanted just a place to crash for the night but meeting April and Rhine and getting a peek into their works of art became a special part of our trip. The bedroom was very cozy, with a lovely view of the mountain. I would highly recommend her place if u are looking to connect...with nature, yourself or a couple of interesting people :)

    swati2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • I've stayed with April several times throughout the summer and it's always fantastic! The room is wonderful and the house is beautiful - overlooking the mountain. April is so much fun to chat with!

    Jeremy2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • April was a gracious host. The view is amazing in a quiet area of Southern New Hampshire. The bed was very comfortable. Thank you

  • Windmill Hill offers a comfortable and charming family home for travelers, with tremendous views from every room; a peaceful retreat with plenty of space. Facilities and creature comforts are all there and April and Rhine are the perfect hosts. The local village of Peterborough, April's suggestion for food, is also authentic and friendly.

    Christopher2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • We knew we were in for a treat as we went up the hills toward April's house! The views became more and more beautiful, and we were enjoying each curve in the road, getting a slightly different look at the mountains and hills. April's house is spectacular, a sprawling vintage 1930s lodge built for a family from New York. It is quaint with beautiful furnishings. Our room was on the second floor with its own balcony! My husband and I took a walk soon after we arrived, then sat on the balcony to watch the sun set. We loved it! The bed is so comfortable, and we had everything we needed. April and her husband are warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed talking to both of them. The location is private and quiet, quite a privilege to stay in this slice of rural New Hampshire! Thank you April for the wonderful overnight!!!!

  • April was a fantastic host and her house is absolutely lovely! The room is gorgeous and the view of Mt. Monadnock from the balcony is stunning – the picture doesn’t do it justice. Sunday morning I intended on stepping onto the balcony only very briefly, but found myself basking in the sun and staring at the mountain for a half hour or so, it was so peaceful. The mattress was great and I had a wonderful night’s rest. I was only in April’s home for a short time, but I very much enjoyed my stay and had a great time chatting with April. I will certainly be back during future trips up north.

    Jeremy2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • April's house is exactly as described...but with an even more beautiful backyard and neighborhood to explore. We were in town for a wedding and had a blast squeezing in a few hikes (all very close to April's house!)

  • It was a pleasure to stay with Hans and Marcy! Hans was quick to return my emails, and he was warm and welcoming when we arrived. The suite is clean and beautifully decorated with artwork made by this talented couple! The location is outstanding, just a short walk to the lake! Hans offered us the use of his canoe, so nice and generous! Hans and Marcy are very interesting to talk to, and they have done so much to help other people. Every summer, they have a two week art camp for twenty five children! Be sure to walk on their grounds to see some of the projects made by campers! We were given a tour of the art studio, and it is impressive to see all the beautiful artwork! Marcy makes stuffed animals out of recycled materials, employing people from the area to work with her. Take your checkbook, they are irresistible. We rode our bicycles from their house, and there are several great routes to take. We appreciated that we could store our bicycles on the porch when it rained. Thank you Marcy and Hans for a wonderful vacation!

  • We had a very nice stay. Property was exactly as advertised. Our hosts were very nice. Our room was clean, plenty of space and warm oasis in the middle of a very cold night.

  • The pictures do not do this cozy little apartment justice. I was enthralled with the artful and welcoming atmosphere of the space, which is a true reflection of Hans and Marcy. From the first moment I arrived I was at ease with the sincere and sustaining welcome which was offered. I had my privacy and equal measure of company in a way which was effortless and balanced. The surrounding area is a pleasure to walk, with lakes and trees galore and Mount Monadnock gracing it all.

A lovely farmhouse available year round. A great stay, with the space quiet and privacy of a house to yourselves in a beautiful rural setting. Enjoy this convenient location in the Monadnock region for a vacation or a work retreat. Nightly prices are based on number of people staying, affordable for one or two and available for up to six Guests. Airbnb now collects NH meals and rentals tax directly. (My NH license # 059642)
Our house was built in 1830. It has been updated with modern amenities while maintaining the antique charm. The floors are a little uneven, the stairs a little steep, and the bathrooms small. Balanced with these reminders of 17th century living are large bedrooms and a warm and welcoming home in a beautiful setting. We have a large open concept kitchen with seating in the kitchen and dining area, a comfortable living room and a laundry room. On the first floor is a large corner bedroom with lovely southwestern light. This bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed. In one corner is a gas fireplace, in the other is a tiny bathroom complete with shower, sink and toilet. On the second floor is a large sunny southeast-facing corner bedroom with a queen size futon bed that has memory foam and fiber bed pads for comfort. A cozy den bedroom is at the back of the house, furnished with a double bed. Two more small bedrooms on the second floor are furnished with twin folding beds. The second floor bathroom is small but complete with a shower with bathtub, corner sink and toilet.
Our neighborhood is quiet and rural and right near all the wonders of the Monadnock region. There is a T-Bird gas station right down the road to the right at Bond's Corner, a CVS and Shaws down the road to the left in Peterborough. Del Rossi's Restaurant is in Dublin, and Nature's Green Grocer Market and Restaurant are right down the hill in West Peterborough.
  • If I could give six stars, I would. The host goes above and beyond to make the stay comfortable. The house is beautiful, peaceful, clean and well situated. It is ideal for a country getaway.

    Julia2016-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Highest ratings for Louise! Her farmhouse was perfect. Rustic in places, high end in others. Close to necessities (like a grocery store), but still out in the country where my children could happily play outside. She had fresh bread and cider waiting for us upon our arrival. The kids were thrilled to not have to share a bed OR bedroom on our trip to New Hampshire. We were in town for a family wedding and it was nice to have a home to come back to and relax. I would definitely stay again and will highly recommend to other friends/family who would visit my Aunt/Uncle in New Hampshire.

    Kristin2016-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a privilege to stay at the Old Brooks Farm! I love historic homes, and this farmhouse is both charming and comfortable! I love the nooks and crannies found in an old house, the built in cupboards, wide pine floors, and tasteful updates. This house has character! The house is also spotlessly clean, and the furnishings are comfortable. Louise is so nice to work with, returning my emails promptly and leaving clear directions to follow. We enjoyed the location, as we were close to some of our favorite bicycle rides, especially route 137 to Hancock. It was a short drive to Peterborough which we also appreciated. We liked being off the beaten path, looking at the woods through the windows, while at the same time being close to town. The house is huge! Just when I thought I had seen the entire house, it seemed like I found another room! This would be a great accommodation for a family reunion! In addition, there was a first floor bedroom and bathroom which was essential for our elderly friend who came with us for the weekend. Thank you Louise for a wonderful weekend!!!

    Nancy2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • This house is just amazing. The outside is perfectly rustic and serene on a huge, private piece of land. The inside has a beautiful modern kitchen. Cozy livingroom with a very comfortable sofa. Plenty of bedrooms to pick from; we choose downstairs, with a large bed that was so comfortable and the softest sheets and blankets I've ever slept on. Louise left convenient details like cotton balls and qtips, and the orange juice and bagels were so appreciated after a long drive from home. Also loved that her home is stocked with environmentally conscious products for cleaning. After hiking Mt.Manadnock, this cozy respite was the perfect spot to relax and unwind. We loved it so much, we even booked an extra day.

    Ginger2016-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • Louise was terrific and the house was lovely. So great for my sister and new brother-in-law to visit for a few days after she got married.

    Carol2016-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Honestly if I could give six stars out of 5, I would. This place is amazing: extremely well stocked, warm, clean, and in a beautiful quiet location. Plus it's only 5 minutes to Peterborough where you will find everything you might want including shops, restaurants, and a movie theatre.

    Julia2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication, simple instructions on everything.

    Barbara2016-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this lovely farm house for 2 months this summer. It's in a great location ... feels remote, but within very short driving distance of both Dublin and Peterborough. Louise is an amazing hostess and helped us with a number of questions before we arrived and then during our stay. The house is a large sprawling farm house, very comfortable and with all amenities for a short or long visit. We didn't need to bring anything other than our clothes and personal items. Although we were there during the heat of the summer, the temperature inside was very comfortable with several window A/C units and fans. We would highly recommend renting this farm house ... well worth the cost and we hope to visit again next summer!

  • This is my third time staying at Cold Comfort Farm and it was wonderful as always. The weather was terrible on the night of my arrival but I messaged to say I'd be late and there was no issue with that at all. My room was warm and cozy and there were extra blankets already on the bed. The view of the mountain in the fall is really something special, even more peaceful than in the summer.

    Erika2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We were warmly greeted by Jo, Brie's mother. The setting is absolutely gorgeous, with the beautiful mountain view. We were especially pleased with the lounge chairs and hot tub outside, as well as the nice shower and the hospitality. It's a great spot, and was convenient for us, near Dublin School where we were visiting.

    Richard and Beverly2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Upon arrival we were greeted nicely by Jo (Brie's mother). She made us feel welcomed and gave us suggestions on where we could get some dinner, as it was already quite late for a town that sleeps early. The views from the location were beautiful. As I stated before we arrived late in the evening and left early the next morning, but during our short stay we enjoyed our stay. I would recommend the location to anyone.

    Miranda2016-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Brie's mom Jo was very accommodating. When we arrived, the family was preparing the barn for a wedding the following weekend. Jo was happy to talk about the history in the historic place. She told us about the local town and the best ways to go about. She let us see her horses. The room was perfect for a night with chocolates, coffee, and breakfast in the frig in the hall. I would recommend this to a friend!

    Kimberly2016-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • What a DREAM come true for me...to stay in an historic location overlooking Mt. Monadnock! I am familiar with the area as I own an 1833 home in another town, but I have rented it out and was in the area overseeing some renovations. This was my 1st Airbnb experience and I am HOOKED! I was greeted by Brie's Mom, Jo and welcomed into her lovley barn home to chat with her and her husband, Don! We walked the grounds the next morning and I also got to give the horses, Teddy and Leo, a special treat! My bedroom overlooked the beautiful view of Mt. Monadnock and while I did not require food and personal care products, Jo had everything stocked for her guests...even having the coffee pot ready to brew 1st thing in the morning (which I DID use!!!) I felt I had know Jo and Don my whole life and I look forward to returning and staying with them in their special slice of HEAVEN!

    Patricia2016-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night after hiking Mt. Monadnock and it was the perfect stay. The view was beautiful at all times of day and being able to watch the horses in their fields was a bonus. Jo was very nice and nothing but accommodating even with me changing my arrival time about a dozen times! She was very helpful with suggestions on what to do and where to eat for our mini vacation. Lauren was kind enough to come out and show us how to feed the horses a snack the next morning too! The room was cozy and clean and the homemade banana bread was delicious!

There are many fabulous hikes of various lengths in the Monadnock region, including one of the most-hiked mountains in the world, Mt. Monadnock, which is only 25 minutes away. We are only five minutes from the historic mill village of Harrisville, which was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977. The village is frequently photographed as an iconic example of picturesque New England. The Harrisville General Store is a wonderful place to grab lunch or morning coffee. Knitters and textile lovers will enjoy visiting Harrisville Designs. The towns of Peterborough and Keene are only 20 minutes away and provide ample shopping and dining options. We love to make our guests feel welcome and at home and are happy to share our knowledge of the wonderful places to visit in the area. If you prefer a more private stay with less interaction with your hosts, please let us know and we will accommodate your needs.
  • My wife and I along with another couple came for the July NASCAR races in Loudon (only an hour-long scenic drive away) and stayed several extra days to visit the New England area. Was definitely skeptical at first of the "farm experience" and the rural setting but soon realized we had made the right decision; the pigs and sheep were neat to see, and the 360 view from the top of the hill was as good as it gets. The house has been recently remodeled and quite comfortable even without whole house AC. Sarah and Craig live on the property and were excellent hosts and very interested in making sure we had a good stay. The entire area is rich in history with several small historic towns to explore (plenty of great restaurants and shopping) only 15-20 minutes away and historic village of Harrisville only 5 minutes away (take the Mill Tour and visit the General Store). In addition to the races, we also took a few other day trips: one into Boston via the commuter train (take the purple line out of Fitchburg and avoid the Boston traffic) and one to Rye, NH for a Whale Watching tour. It was a memorable vacation and one we will do again. If you are looking for a safe and relaxing place to stay while visiting the NE area, this is it.

  • Sarah and Craig's home on their farm is absolutely terrific! Coming from a total clean freak, I can't say enough how impressed I was with the lovely and super clean home. There is a no shoe rule which I totally love because it just goes to show you how much pride they take in their home being perfect for their guests. The beds were VERY comfortable and had all crisp white linens. Sarah and Craig were so sweet to leave homemade scones, jam, coffee and even fresh 1/2 & 1/2 from a local farm. One of my favorite activities was just walking around the farm and watching the pigs and all of their adorable piglets. Up the hill a little ways you will find a lot of cute sheep! This is a great spot if you love animals and like to see how a kind farm is run. I was staying in the area because my cousin was getting married right down the road. Come to find out Sarah was the caterer of the wedding. The food was AMAZING so if you ever need catering services she is definitely your go to gal! I hope to have a reason to go back there someday and highly recommend staying at Mayfair Farm.

  • Stay here, you will not regret it! I can't say enough about Sarah and family's beautiful farm. Six of us came to stay for a friend's wedding and found the accommodations clean, comfortable, peaceful, and beautiful. Sarah went above and beyond to make us feel at home, and even left us some breakfast treats at the house! The Airbnb itself is nestled between sheep, pigs, a raspberry patch and a river that can be traversed to go to the general store in Harrisville. It was the perfect country getaway and I hope to return!

  • Sarah and Craig were lovely hosts. They welcomed us and told us a lot about what we could do in the area. Their home was clean and neat and well-stocked. We and our children had a wonderful time on the farm and recommend this home to others who are staying in Harrisville.

  • Awesome little house - perfect for us - while attending a wedding at Cobb hill estates. Great location and plenty of space. Big bedrooms and nice living room to hang out in. Two nice bathrooms as well, and a deck. Perfect!

    Brian2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our weekend stay! The house was immaculate, very bright with lots of windows, cozy, and comfortable. Sarah met us upon our arrival and was very friendly and helpful, offering suggestions of things to do in the area. The bedrooms were quite large and the beds extremely comfortable. The gas fireplace was very nice in the evenings. A lovely place!

  • Sarah's place is perfect for a peaceful, beautiful stay in New England. Great family, great hosts!

    Stephanie2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's home is very modern and impeccably clean. The beds were super comfy and the kitchen was well-equipped. She even left us coffee, a delicious quiche and homemade bacon for breakfast when we arrived. Sarah her self is incredible. I was blown away by how warm and kind she was. I'd highly recommend staying at this beautiful home!

  • When I checked in, I met Linda's husband and he was so friendly and welcoming and showed me the rest of the place. I was in the part of the building that had been renovated into a bedroom, a kitchenette, and a living section just as shown in the photos. A bright and charming little place that was perfect for me. The location was also great because I needed to go to Dublin and Keene every day. If you love local organic foods, there was a natural grocery store/cafe just opposite to it and there was a bonus for my stay. I would highly recommended this place if you are travelling alone or with a partner.

    Maria2016-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful, sunny apartment in a great location! There are lots of huge windows, and bright sunny yellow walls, a cheerful place! It is spotless, and i appreciate they encourage people to wear slippers inside. Linda is so nice to work with, returning my emails promptly. She was very flexible, and she allowed us to check in early which was wonderful! The location is great, only a mile or two from the center of Peterborough, and there is an organic market down the street with a great cafe! Linda left some great looking soup for us in the refrigerator, but we unfortunately were out most of the time and didn't have it, our loss. We hope to stay again sometime, as we loved the apartment. Thank you, Linda, for a wonderful weekend!

    Nancy2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Het huis was schoon en ruim en voorzien van alles wat je nodig hebt. Ee was een badkamer, alleen voor mij. De omgeving was rustig. Ik voelde me er erg vrij en comfortabel.

  • Secluded and peaceful and quiet. Great place to work. Wonderful large windows, seated shower, great value!

  • We enjoyed our stay at the sunny suite very much! All of the natural light was wonderful and the suite had everything that we could have needed. The suite was very clean and as described in the listing.

  • Blueberry muffins on the table! A lovely, air conditioned space over the course of a few hot days. Nice location. Linda welcomed me in and I couldn't have been happier.

    Zachary2016-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Linda and Greg greeted us and told us about the apartment and stressed to us to let them know if we needed anything. The apartment was very quiet for sleeping and utensils for those who want to cook or just make coffee or tea in the morning were available. We cooked in the apartment two nights with plenty of plates, silverware, and large refrigerator for storage. Bathroom was spotless with plenty of hot water to shower. There is no television but a strong WiFi connection is available. All in all a great place to stay.

    Tom2016-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • The space is light and bright and the host is responsive and incredibly helpful. It was a perfect place for me to be able to visit because it was very close to Peterborough town proper and around the corner from my family. It was also Handicapped Accessible which was an incredible bonus for my brother who is in a wheelchair and was able to come over to meet me there. Thank you Linda!

Guests are free to use the kitchen and living room if they wish, but if privacy is of great importance, the room is right off the front entrance hallway, so you can come right in and head to your room without going through the house. The house, set back and up from the road, is colorful, eclectic and full of music and art. The yard is big with soaring pines, maples, birch and oak trees all around. The extensive woods behind and next to the house connects with the MacDowell Damn property, a truly beautiful place to walk, swim, picnic and kayak. You can catch the sun rising over Crotchet Mountain from my living room and deck. The yard is frequently visited by deer, turkeys, porcupines, and every sort of local wild life. I am happy to help out with any special requests if I am able. I want you to feel at home. There are cereals, granola, fruit, coffee and tea that you can help yourself to.
The house is 1/3 mile up a country road from Union Street, a residential road with sidewalks, that connects Peterborough and West Peterborough and routes 101 and 202. There is a lovely river park right at the bottom of the street. If you want a country walk, head up the hill past farms (horses, cows and sheep) and sweeping mountain views. It is an easy half mile walk down around the corner to Nature’s Green Grocer, a wonderful organic market and cafe on the beautiful Nubanuset River, SOUL yoga studio and Piggy’s, a fabulous consignment shop full of treasures large and small. Just up the hill is the gorgeous MacDowell Damn. Around the bend in another direction is the MacDowell Colony and the town playground, park and pool are just a mile away (easy to walk to on sidewalks) Downtown, where you will find wonderful shops, museums, galleries, a movie theater, and restaurants, is just 2 miles. Peterborough is an amazing town. It is post-card, quintessential New England, with beautiful historic buildings. It is full of hip shops and fabulous restaurants, antique stores, consignment shops, the Sharon Arts Gallery, the New England Art Exchange, the Peterborough Players theater and Harlow’s Pub, a popular spot for great eats, live music and more. The area is a favorite for hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, shopping and dining. Mt. Monadnock, the second most hiked mountain in the world, is about 10 minutes away, with many trails that take you to the top.

  • Judith is a wonderful host. Communication with Judith is easy and she is flexible. Both these traits were helpful when bad weather impacted our estimated arrival time. She obviously wanted to make our stay a good one: the room was clean, comfortable, and private. This was our first Air BNB experience and Judith made it a great one. This will be our 'go to' place whenever we stay in Peterborough.

    Lauren2016-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Judith was a great host! She was so warm and welcoming. I will definitely stay with her again. Her home is so beautiful. Homemade scones, several varieties of cereal, and fruit were a wonderful way to start the days. Not to mention coffee and teas that were always available. Great places to eat in town. When I was not out day hiking I was relaxing reading a book. The space is perfectly quiet!

  • Judith has a great home and was a very welcoming host.

    Sally2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Judith is communicative, kind and helpful. Meeting her enriched our weekend. She oriented us good spots in town and generously set up netflix in the basement so that we could cuddle up with a film. The teas and hotpot were a wonderful extra touch.

    Julie2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Judy is a delightful host, eager to make sure her guests are super comfortable and have whatever they need. She opened her lovely home - including her great kitchen and very pretty den and living room to us and that just added so much value to an already excellent room. She made homemade gluten free scones which were super tasty and her warm and friendly attitude made our trip just wonderful. The basement bedroom was spacious and had the most comfortable beds- with a private bathroom and very good shower. The private room also has a table for eating, a micro wave and hot pot for hot chocolate and tea. The area was a great find - as there are fantastic restaurants within 15 of Judith's home, including a great green grocer that has an excellent selection of health food and really nice prepared foods. Oh -there is a frog in the room which is also very convenient. A great value with a lovely host!!!

    Therese2016-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Judy was very welcoming and her place has a very nice vibe. surrounded by greenery and a beautiful yard its very private and quiet. we would come back when back in the area.

A warm and comfortable room for 1-2 people located on ground floor in a small cape. We are located on a quiet street with private walking trail from my property, through the park into downtown. Enjoy a fresh breakfast made with organic eggs (weekends) from our chickens when available and baked goods. *Please - no third party bookings.
The Raspberry accommodates two people nicely with a double bed and a shared bathroom only a few feet away. We value good sleep here, therefore the room offers an ambient sound machine for creating white noise while sleeping, and also a selection of essential oil room sprays to create an aromatic atmosphere conducive to sleep or relaxation. There is a hot water kettle in the room for making tea and a mini refrigerator for storing perishables. The bookshelf has books and magazines for your reading pleasure. Our house is not large or expansive, but its compartmentalized layout creates privacy. The neighborhood is quiet and adjacent to the local park, making our home private and surrounded by nature, while still being only a short walk to downtown. The design is colorful, whimsical, and eclectic, while being quaint and comfortable. You'll get the morning sun coming through your bedroom window, but we have room darkening shades that can be pulled down. Our guests will have access to wifi and a large collection of movies that can be played on your travel laptop or our living room system. There is use of the living room, dining room, kitchen (light use), a shared bathroom, and outside breezeway, a lovely location for a semi-outdoor breakfast. Bed is Beddinge Lovas sofa bed by Ikea, microfiber sheets, and Laura Ashley goosedown comforter for the cold months. A primaloft comforter can be provided, should there be goosedown allergies. On weekend mornings (Saturday and Sundays) I will cook a generous gourmet breakfast with fresh, local and organic ingredients when available. Often this includes freshly baked homemade muffins, huevos rancheros or omelettes, and special diets will be happily accommodated. During the weekdays, I will leave a much simpler breakfast on the dining room table by 8:30 am before I head out to work, usually homemade granola, fruit and yogurt. I'm also happy to recommend places to visit and restaurant recommendations in the local area.
If you're going to stay in the Monadnock region, your best choice is Peterborough, recognized as one of the ten 'coolest' towns in NH by Budget Travel Magazine, as well as one of the most idyllic and picturesque by USA Today, Travel America and NH Home Magazine. It is a quintessential New England town with antique stores, the Sharon Arts Gallery for artisan crafts, the New England Art Exchange, theater, music events, good restaurants including the famous Harlow's Pub, a riverfront park, shopping, biking trail, nearby mountains for hiking, rivers and lakes for enjoyment, and beautiful historic buildings. It's a small town with a lot to offer. From our place, you can walk into town in only five minutes, leaving you in the center of activity. Ava Marie chocolates and ice cream is one block away. A focal point activity in the area is hiking Mount Monadnock, the 2nd most hiked mountain in the world. Trailhead is only 6 miles away. Also North Pack and Pack Monadnock are easily accessible for a less vigorous day hike than Monadnock. Walking/running and cycling are available on the Rail Trail, connecting Peterborough to Hancock. Cross country skiing is a township away in New Ipswich at Windblown ski area. Crotched Mountain ski area is a 15 minute drive away.
  • This is a very good place for a person or couple to stay in the Peterborough area. Vanessa is a very welcoming host, and makes one feel very much at home. You cannot buy as good a breakfast as she makes for you.

A Unique Modern Retreat in the Woods of New Hampshire
Our rural, spacious New Hampshire home actually consists of three connected geometric structures. Guests may choose from a variety of accomodations: <> The magical geodesic Dome: a colorful, spherical space for special activities (like yoga and massage) and/or guests. Converts to three-season 2- person sleeping quarters with a high-quality queen-sized air mattress. Heat includes electric, propane, and/or woodstove. <> The main Octagon: a beautiful three-story tower, surrounded by decks large and small, a rustic porch, (with picnic table and hammock), a sunroom (for YEAR-ROUND sun-bathing and indoor gardening. As a major eco-feature, this solar gain cuts our household consumption of non-renewable heating fuels considerably.). The full-size kitchen is modern, open-concept. Upstairs: office and private suite for up to four guests. <> The Cube. Super-modern office with a glass-wall south view of the garden and woods; converts to double bedroom, (one low trundle bed), with attached full bath and laundry. Our house provides plenty of personal privacy and entrances, but also features a versatile Great Room, centered on the magnicent "Defiant" woodstove/fireplace. The couch is on wheels, to easily roll close to the fireplace, or out of the way for partying. The Great Room is also the home of our beautiful hanging house alter. (see photos). Our personal favorite space is the three-season south-facing screened porch, with a small private deck outside. Other attractions include: <> outdoor HOT TUB or cool pool <> PING-PONG in the rec room, BADMINTON and BEAN BAG TOSS in season. <> HOME THEATER. House WiFi/Internet throughout <> Vegetarian Breakfast Choices by Padma (Organic when possible, and local CSA farm-share in season) <> Nature Walks. Campfire. We are eager to share this special retreat space with you. Everyone who walks in says the same thing: "Oh, wow!" Lonny is a Holistic Health Counselor and yoga instructor, so ask about extra health and healing services.
Our nearest neighbor is a horse. We "live in the woods", but it's less than a mile to the center of town, historic colonial Hancock, NH. The sidewalks have never been paved. The church bell was cast by Paul Revere, and rings on the hour. That's about as much "noise" as you'll hear around here, apart from the insects and forest critters and our neighbor's chickens, depending on the season. There's a lake, (swimming or skating), post office, cafe, library, historic inn, town square with gazebo, colonial era cemetary, and other small-town New-England "attractions." Just up the road is a large apple orchard and a view of the famous Mt. MonadnockSee (URL HIDDEN) All our neighbors are wonderful. :-) Also checkout the nearby beautiful Harris Center for Conservation Education.
  • Lonny is a wonderful host. His accommodations matched the listing. Hot tub was great. Homemade bread and breakfast!

  • Lonny's place is amazing and very comfortable. He was such a great host. Thank you Lonny for the best getaway :)

  • The Octogon is a unique house set in beautiful garden in the middle of the woods. Lonny and Padma, our host, were wonderful and welcoming. Lonny is quick to respond and went out of his way to set up a baby gate for us and surprise us with the jacuzzi that had just been set up for the season and which we enjoyed under the stars one evening. The house offers many unique places to relax and enjoy the setting. We had dinner in the sunroom, still warm from the day and enjoyed breakfast on the porch looking at the fall colors just beyond the yard. Breakfast was made to order and delicious! I really enjoyed eating out on the porch on a warm October morning and sitting on the hanging chair sipping a cup of tea. We spent time in the yoga room stretching after a day of hiking and Lonny took us to meet Nelson down the street, a friendly horse the kids loved to meet. I even left a few inches taller after Lonny helped me with some back aches I had been dealing with. Lonny and Padma are wonderful hosts and offer a beautiful and relaxing home for their guest to enjoy. Thank you!

    Cecile2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Octagon is a restful and beautiful space on a lovely country road. Lonny provided a welcoming home, with special touches (hot tub) that made us feel that we were on a peaceful retreat. Lonny offered privacy, good conversation, and the perfect balance of both. We highly recommend this location.

    Robin2017-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Lonny's Octagon Home. Lonny was a very gracious host - prompt with his replies and helpful when needed. We loved the wood stove with the fire on the cold December day, the serene and peaceful space and positive energy of the place, enjoyed our conversations with Lonny and had a wonderful breakfast made by Padma and Lonny. Playing ping pong downstairs was a lot of fun on a snowy day. We liked that the place was pet friendly as we could bring our puppy which also meant a big deal to us. Lonny also gave me some good advise as he is a back specialist which I will try out. We would highly recommend Lonny's home for getting away from the everyday rut and rejuvenating the body, mind and spirit.

    Mona2017-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lonny was a great host! His beautiful octogon home was very clean and neat. He was there to answer all of our questions. He went above and beyond the morning, and had food ready for us to make breakfast. He made these amazing roasted almonds that we loved!

    Kelly 2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Octagon is tucked away in quiet and quaint Hancock, NH. Just down the street is a little shop, cafe, and local goat cheese shop. As soon as we stepped into the space we felt tremendous positive energy. Lonny had some aromatherapy with relaxing music and of course a beautiful wood burning stove central to the house. Lonny was generous to help us up to our room and gave us a quick tour of the place. The next day we woke early to a nice breakfast served by Padma and Lonny. We spent a wonderful day outside walking around with our two dogs in the woods and downtown. Later, Lonny provided some exceptional service to the three of us on the massage table (small fee, very fair!). Lonny has a great presence about him and has a lot to offer! The last morning there, Lonny led us in a yoga session. We left feeling relaxed and happy! I'd recommend this place to anyone, especially those with a sense of adventure or someone who is in search of a place to unwind and relax. We hope to return again and again!

    Phillip2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lonny was an amazing host. I went for NYE with my 3 dogs and my 3 children. My kids had a great time exploring the house, sitting by the fire drinking cocoa, playing games, watching programs on the flat and most of all loved the outdoor hot tub. Place was really clean and welcoming. The next morning Lonny and his daughter cooked up a wonderful custom breakfast that we all scoffed down. It was a great bead and breakfast experience I would recommend to any of my friends. We will definitely return this coming summer.

Everything was clean, the kitchen was fully supplied with dishes, glasses, pots, pans, etc. We had a perfect stay!!

  • This house is nothing short of spectacular. The roar of the fireplace was nice, and the windows gave us a magnificent view of the mountains around us. The kitchen was perfect for cooking, and the hot tub gave us some wonderful evenings to relax. Overall, this was the best place I could have ever spent my weekend.

  • Our trip to Cobb Hill Estate was fantastic. The house is very large and has and old-style New England feel to it. I spent the weekend at the home with 9 people and everyone slept comfortably with room to spare. The best parts of Cobb Hill are the view and the hiking that can be done on the grounds. Keene, NH is a short 20-30 minute drive so picking up groceries or checking out the small bars or shops is doable as well. Overall we had a great time.

    Andrew2016-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had an amazing time at the Cobb Hill Estate! It was more than enough space and had breath taking views. We arrived at night and were blown away by what we saw in the morning! We were there for a graduation, but were able to make so many memories that would have been impossible in a hotel! It allowed my family to be together under one roof and cook together and just enjoy some much needed family time. Check-in was seamless which really worked in our favor due to traffic being backed up, we were able to accommodate everyone seeing that we were coming from different locations. Tom was able to take on our request with a really short notice which was greatly appreciated seeing that there weren't many choices in that area. Any questions that we had were quickly answered by the property manager, who even made helpful suggestions making our stay even more comfortable. I would totally recommend this Location to anyone interested! Thanks again from the Miller family!

  • We had a fantastic stay at Cobb Hill Estate. The property was breathtaking, and the house was well-suited for a large group. It's a wonderful place to cook, chat, read, walk in the woods, soak in the hot tub and take in the view. The arrival packet and Tom's communication in advance made all the details very clear. I would absolutely recommend this property in any season.

  • The listing was very accurate, and it was more beautiful than we even expected!

    Christa2016-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house is absolutely gorgeous! The views were incredible. Sitting in the hot tub overlooking the mountains was spectacular. The house is so spacious with not only big bedrooms but so many different places for people to hang out. We had a group that included adults, teenagers and 12 year olds. There was space for us all to be together if we wanted or in our own space. The ping pong room was a huge hit with everyone and you are able to shut the doors to cut down on sound, but they're glass doors, so you can still see in. The kitchen was so well stocked with absolutely everything you can imagine, it even has 2 fridges, which is super when your're feeding hungry teenagers! We can not say enough about the house- it's amazing! And Akhil, the property manager, is wonderful. We were there for a soccer tournament and needed a later check out and he was more than accommodating. He was very helpful! We hope to be back soon!

  • Huge space. Wonderful light. Stocked with everything you need. Great rustic Interior design. Lots of nooks and crannies to sit and visit. Goodlocation for general area visiting. Driveway may require a 4 Wheel Dr. in snow. Electric cooktop is a bit futzy. Forced air heat can be loud but not a problem We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend it highly.

  • Sharon & Katherine were terrific hosts for a relaxing long weekend in Harrisville! We got to enjoy every kind of weather, walk and jog around Child's Bog, hike over to the Kulish Ledges, explore the neighboring towns, and just soak up the lovely lodge on (aptly named) Blueberry Mountain. And our three dogs got to run around off leash with Ruler, Cricket, and Magic :-)

    Nick2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this cabin for my band to set up and record in. Everything was great and as described. The location was beautiful and quiet with an awesome view. Sharon the on site care taker was super helpful and responsive. If you're on the fence about renting this, do it, you will not be disappointed.

  • We both thoroughly enjoyed this warm, comfortable and quiet setting well off the main road. The views were wonderful, with the sun streaming in the many windows. We ventured through Keene NH and Brattelboro VT, both easily accessible with a short drive. Our Hostess was gracious and thoughtful throughout our stay. We would like to thank her for having us in her home and we certainly consider this a definite spot to return to. Many Thanks, Larry

    Larry2016-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This house was a great space for our family to enjoy the fall weather (with even some snow thrown in!). The several beds were perfect for a bigger group if you have one. The fireplace was definitely used as it got chilly -- and the atmosphere felt homey and comfortable. There are a few 'rustic' aspects that should be expected--especially the bugs that sneak in when it gets cold out and the dust that accumulates in the older house. Also, it was not a scary ghost, but two of us in the group saw/felt a ghost in the house--just curious more than anything! Old houses have lots of energy in them!

  • If you are looking for a quiet mountain getaway with views of the mountains - including Monadnock- and a bit remote, this is a wonderful place. The cottage was great! Katie's grandfather lives next door. Grandpa was extremely nice and very accommodating. It was as described, and we would definitely go back again. I should say we hope to go back again. I have a couple of suggestions for ways to improve the experience. First, there is no internet as described on the Airbnb website and should be removed from the description until it is available. Walking over to Grandpa's to use his internet is not the equivalent of internet access. Note: Cell phone reception is spotty. Verizon worked but not AT&T. Personally, we thought it was great to be disconnected for awhile. Second, we had difficulties contacting Katie the week of our trip. We had no idea if the house would be open or where the key was when we were driving up there. The issue would have been resolved if she had responded to our many attempts to confirm by phone, email, or text that we would have access upon arrival, even if it had been an email the day we received the confirmation email from Airbnb; thankfully, Grandpa had prepared the house for our arrival. Although we didn't meet Katie, she was extremely nice and apologetic about the situation. Despite the communication snafu, I highly recommend staying here, and I hope to stay again.

  • We were visiting the area for a graduation in Keene, and opted to stay out of town. For the price of a hotel room in town, we got a whole private farmhouse with an amazing view. I enjoyed morning runs down the country roads, and walks down the hill. I saw lots of wildlife and truly enjoyed the peacefulness. There are so many little towns around to explore as well, including Harrisville with it's general store and mill on the water. Everything we needed to enjoy our stay was there at the farmhouse. Overall I am very pleased with the stay.

    Andrew2017-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time over Memorial Day weekend at Katherine's Blueberry Mountain Lodge. The house was much bigger than we expected. We had 8 people stay and there was plenty of room. There were 4 couples, and there were also 4 sitting areas in the house. So cool! If you like antiques, this is definitely the place to stay. Our favorite part of the stay was the seclusion. The property is huge, and very private. Our dogs had an amazing time as well. We will be going back some day soon, maybe Blueberry season :)

Our two-bedroom, spacious condo is ideal for a quiet getaway or weekend stay. The space has beautiful art, comfortable furniture, and a clear view of Pack Monadnock Mountain. Less than 5 minutes from downtown Peterborough, we're near great hiking trails, swimming and kayaking spots, and skiing slopes. Parking is adjacent to the condo unit, and there is a small kayak and bicycle available upon request. This is a non-smoking unit, freshly updated and ready for you!
  • The host canceled this reservation 8 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

  • All around the best experience ever! The condo was exactly as pictured. The view was spectacular, the pictures did not do it justice! The condo was extremely beautiful, comfortable, clean and quiet-- perfect for a weekend getaway! Elizabeth was such an amazing host who was extremely accommodating for us by letting us check in early or checkout later if necessary. She was also kind enough to let us use all her cookware so we could cook our meals right in the kitchen! Best part-- she left us a bottle of wine on the table since it my boyfriend and mine's anniversary. Incredible! Thank you so much Elizabeth for such a great stay. Kamila

  • This condo is set off the main road in a peaceful complex surrounded by nature, yet it is only a few miles from downtown. It was the perfect place for my family of four to stay. The living room is spacious, the kitchen is fully equipped and the sweet outdoor balcony offers a cozy place to sit and relax. The parking is easy and convenient. Instructions were very simple and clear. Thank you for a great stay! We will be back!

  • I would recommend this place if you are in the area. Very clean, quiet for a condo development. I did not meet the hosts, but they left the place warm and ready to go. It was below zero outside. Not far from town, great view. Great price.

  • Michael and Elizabeth were really great and answered immediately anytime I had questions. As for the condo, it was beautiful and had an amazing view specially after the snow. Looking forward to staying here again!

  • The condo was great! Very clean and uncluttered. Wish we had planned for a longer stay. Very up to date and clean. Loved the sea glass decorations and fresh flowers when we arrived. Was in a Condo complex but very quiet and in the summer, the porch would be great for relaxing.

There was ample space for hanging out and the bed was quite comfortable. Brie even baked us a delicious loaf of bread which we enjoyed as we ate breakfast.

  • Brianna was amazing with communication, very flexible, and she and her mother Jo were both quite accommodating! Staying at Cold Comfort Farm was lovely. Peaceful, serene, and even had a bonus of two sweet horses that I was lucky enough to pet and feed. The homemade bread and farm fresh eggs were a nice touch... and the bathroom was the highlight of the property (I have a thing for large funky bathrooms)! Saul and I had a great stay, and we'd definitely recommend for the area. Peterborough is a charming little town with some great things to do outdoors quite close by!

    Maya-Jade2015-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Jo's place. The location and view was amazing. The place was clean and fully equipped. The farm was picture perfect. We had a wonderful bike ride into town and loved exploring the art shops in Peterborough. I highly recommend staying with Jo and would be happy to return.

    Lynda and Rick 2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • I have stayed with Jo twice. The 1st time I had what I thought was a medical emergency and was taken away by ambulance. Jo treated me like family and went out of her way to make sure I was in good hands, brought all my belongings to the hospital and Was very gracious about my leaving my car and keeping an eye on it. She is very warm and caring and a talented artist to boot! Jo really anticipates guests' needs and wants. I have stayed in both the room and the suite with kitchen. It's very clean, spacious, fast wifi, homemade baked goods, fresh fruit and other goodies, walls of books to read, a great view of mount monadnock, quiet and private, and the list goes on and on! Jo's place is the model every Airbnb should aspire to.

  • My mom and I had such a wonderful stay at Jo's house! The property was absolutely beautiful, was so nice to sit outside and admire the view of the mountains. Loved the location being so close to downtown Peterborough, had so much fun walking around the town. Jo baked fresh banana bread and homemade bread, was such a delicious treat! She also left fresh fruit and eggs which was very nice. Will definitely be back sooner than later!

  • With this being our first Airbnb experience, it was a pleasure to work with Katherine to set everything up (i.e., check-in/check-out process, etc.). We enjoyed our stay in Katherine's home and would return the next time we are in the area.

    Sonia2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This home is a gem! It is spacious, comfortable and quite beautiful. My daughters - recent graduates from art school - loved the framed pictures and botanical theme throughout the house and dubbed it the prettiest Airbnb. If you like old homes, this is a find. Wide plank floors, interesting nooks, etc. Even with the old charm, we had all of the modern conveniences. Two full baths, a lovely kitchen, both well-equipped and chock full of spices and other staples that one doesn't want to purchase on vacation. And to top it off, Katherine left us a delicious coffee cake! Katherine made sure we knew how to get to her home and was available for other information but we didn't need it. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

    Deborah2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • It was a charming little home in a BEAUTIFUL location--a short walk to a lake and the hamlet of Hancock with a little cafe, general store, and restaurant/inn. All the amenities were there including a bit of coffee for us and sundry odds and ends (toiletries, food, etc.) We felt very welcome by the note left by the owner, telling us to make ourselves at home and help ourselves to whatever we found. Very nice!

Nestled at the base of the mountain, our pet friendly log cabin provides a cabin style retreat with modern amenities at an affordable rate. Sit by the fireplace, rock on the porch, star gaze by the firepit. Hiking and swimming within a few minutes walk. This is a country setting, a 3 acre lot, next to a pony farm. 10 min to Peterborough, 20 min to Keene. Well trained pets are welcome, just be sure to pick up anything they choose to leave behind.
This is a circa 1970 log home with original features. Far from perfect but we aim for comfort and affordability. To accomplish this, we don't charge a cleaning fee. Instead we ask our guests to contribute by leaving the cabin as you found it and following checkout guide on the refrigerator. We'll be sure to clean baths, kitchen, floors but can't guarantee you won't see dust or cobwebs.
  • This is a great spot if you're attending a wedding at the Shattuck Inn. The bedrooms are pretty good size for an older cabin. There is no cable or satellite but good internet for watching Netflix or other services. There is very little cell service in the area.

  • Birchbrook Cabin was the perfect spot us on a fall girlfriend hiking weekend at Mount Monadnock. Great hiking in several locations, minutes from the house. Suzanne's home is very cozy, cheery, warm and comfortable. Everybody loved their bed. We were five women and had plenty of room to relax, lots of nooks in which to read, and a welcoming living room with a great fireplace. We really loved the fall decorations in the house, which mirrored the blazing foliage outside the windows. Star gazing in the backyard, by the fire pit was amazing. We wish we could have stayed a month!

  • We enjoyed our stay at Suzanne's cabin - plenty of room for my wife and I, our daughter, and my mother-in-law and father-in-law. Can't beat the access to good hiking in SW New Hampshire. The yard is lovely - we didn't use the campfire pit, but I imagine it would be great in the spring and fall.

The showerhead and wand were one of the best I've ever taken a shower with (and that includes my own home!) The town is great. • We had a very pleasant stay. There wasn't a pet-friendly room available for the whole duration of our trip, but Eric was as accommodating as he could be, and made sure our bags got moved for us when we switched rooms. (Fortunately, we have family in town who were able to keep our cat for the nights we were in a regular room.) I was delighted to find such a reasonably priced place in such a convenient location. Would definitely stay there again.

  • Beth is a warm, welcoming person and her comfortable, charming home was exactly what we needed on our first trip to New Hampshire. The home is located so close to beautiful downtown Peterborough that it is easy to walk to everything. Beth is very helpful with information on the area and, being that she lives right next door, is available should you need anything during your stay – she actually saved us from a dead battery when she noticed the lights on our rental vehicle were left on in a parking lot across the street and texted us to let us know! We were VERY happy with our stay and highly recommend her and her place!

  • We absolutely loved our stay at Beth's place. It was so festive on Christmas eve and easy to find as they had beautiful Christmas lights on the front porch. Perfect location just steps away from downtown Peterborough. The unit is quite spacious and comes with a well supplied large kitchen, lovely dining table and area, great living room area and very comfortable bedroom. She was so very thoughtful and helpful about getting in and also about the impending snowstorm on Christmas Day, which only added to the charm. Lots of little details in the kitchen and bath that so enhanced our stay as well!

  • This stay exceeded my expectations. I loved staying in a home built many years ago and kept up so well. It was a true New England experience and so very comfortable. I normally don’t sleep all that well but both nights in that bed I slept like a rock. The amenities were fabulous, even the coffee was delicious. The cleanliness was immaculate. The comfy slippers were a nice touch.I have no suggestions for improvement.

  • I stayed at Beth's lovely apt for two nights and it was just perfect--immaculate, wonderfully appointed, in a great location. She has wonderful thoughtful touches, such as slippers, hot chocolate, snacks, and wonderful lighting and truly a comfortable place to be. I could walk to everything I needed and I was so appreciative of this comfortable, sparkling clean home.

  • Beth gets an A+++ for communication. She helped us out so well as our plans changed and were up in the air for a bit. House was adorable and clean, tasteful decorated. The back yard is magical. There was coffee and tea waiting, along with Gorgeous fresh cut flowers. Homey and a perfect place to rest while visitng the area. Walking distance to the beautiful old church and spooky cemetery that we love to explore, and to town with its great stores and pubs. We will for sure be using your home again when we next get to NH. Thank you, Beth!! Ps- it is an old quaint home with low ceilings, so a very tall person will have to duck thu doorways!

  • Gracious host very attentive when needed and very flexible Thank you Beth!!

  • Beths 1 bedroom apartment is very spacious and beautiful. It is clean, warm, inviting, attractive, comfortable, and it felt like home. We loved how she cared about the little touches of home. Like, the slippers by the entrance, the teas and hot chocolate, the jar of snacks, the bathroom products and a little welcome gift. Beth went out of her way to make us feel welcome and comfortable especially when we arrived late because of car trouble. We could not explore Peterborough because of time constraints, but we look forward to staying at Beth's again for a weekend getaway.

  • Wonderful home. We really enjoyed our stay. The place is spacious and private. Walking trails are literally out the back door. Plus it's close to downtown. The street is busy, but noise was not a problem. Check out the chocolate shop a block away where they make their own chocolate.

Peaceful setting, rustic, small, cozy, solar apartment by the woods and fields. Private entrance, bathroom, and kitchen. A hot air furnace and space heaters. Walking distance to swimming, x country skiing, hiking and many country attractions. Beautiful walks and bike rides. The apartment is simple with a comfortable bed. The cooking is simple too. An electric stove, dishes, pots, utensils, sink and of course a waffle iron. Games in the closet. Have fun, but please no loud parties. 10 pm quiet.
Bedroom has a queen size bed. Available year-round by the night, the week or the month. Wonderful place for someone transferring to this area or house hunting. 300 square feet. If you have an extra guest there is an adjoining large room with a queen sized bed , book under Blue Heron for Four. Well behaved pets may stay with prior approval. Dogs may not be left alone in the apartment. There is an additional $20 cleaning fee to return the space to its pet free status. This apartment is the lower part of my residence. We get up around 7am and go to bed at 10pm (quiet time). We try to be quiet but we do live there. We like to host like minded quiet people.
My favorite places are all close by. In Nelson there are many maintained trails, including waterfalls and views. I have maps for you to use. The library is a friendly place with an on going book sale and interesting programs. Swimming and cross country skiing are a 10 minute walk. Harrisville ( a five mile drive) a historic mill town, with many buildings on the National Register, has a self guided tour map, a top rated general store with excellent lunch and breakfast options and the Harrisville Yarns Store specializing in knitting and weaving favorites. Within 20 minutes, Keene and Peterborough are resplendent with restaurants, movie theatres, farmer's markets and much more. Mount Monadnock and the Monadnock Sunapee Trail are close by. Many smaller mountain hikes are within 20 minutes too. I never tire of all the exciting events in the area. The Nelson Webpage, has a calendar and links to area events and activities. Plan your time at blue heron to be quiet and peaceful.
  • Rustic, but perfect. Quiet, scenic, eco-friendly. The meteor shower last night was fantastic and an unexpected delight. We had the first freeze while there and were toasty warm between the solar heat and the wood stove. Highly recommend!

  • We loved the location and Kris, the host, was great. The suite is in a great location if you like solitude. There are glacial lakes nearby great for swimming/fishing. There is a very nice library in the center of town and many low key activities such as classical concerts/contra dancing. We love Nelson, and the Blue Heron suite is a great place to stay. Kris prepares great breakfasts on request

    Robert 2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the homely nature of Blue Heron and the warm welcome we received from Kristine. The location is fabulous for a peaceful and relaxing few days away. Proximity to walks and scenic countryside is fantastic and our hikes up Pack Monadnock and Mount Monadnock truly memorable. We enjoyed sharing breakfast with Kristine, a lovely touch. The General Store in Harrisville also terrific for goods, breakfast and coffee. Loved our trip, thank you Kristine. R&G

  • A lovely respite in the midst of beautiful gardens. Kristine got back to me quick and was a fabulous host - yummy food in the frig on arrival and then apple crisp straight out of the oven! The space was welcoming, clean, comfortable and the view sublime.

    Jenner2015-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Words cannot amount to how our hostess, her home and the town of Nelson made us feel. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the comfort and generous nature Kristine shared with us in our much-too-brief of a stay. She truly went above and beyond to accomodate ours needs. If we had the insight of the breath-taking beauty of the area, Kris's incredible farm-to-table meals and the amount of fun the community had to offer...we rest assure you we would've stayed through the season.

    Hanakekua2015-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Blue Heron! The apartment itself is simple, authentic, and quite lovely - the bed is comfy and there is a great little collection of books to read to help you unwind. We really loved the surrounding area as well. Following a quick 10-minute drive we grabbed a tasty lunch in Keane and then a snack at the nearby Mayfair Farm. There is also a lot to do within walking distance of the Blue Heron. Swimming in the nearby pond with our dog was like a daydream come true. Kristine was kind enough to take us on a nature walk just as the sun was beginning to set which was fun and relaxing. The next morning she sent us on our way with some newly-picked raspberries and fresh kale from the garden. If that isn't nice I don't know what is!

This cozy building in the heart of the Monadnock Region is the perfect getaway for groups of all sizes. While the building, floors and fixtures are rustic, the beds and linens are new and fresh. Stocked with books, DVDs, puzzles and games for a rainy day, and balls, frisbees and walking sticks for a sunny one. Conveniently located at the junction of 101 and 202 in Peterborough, an easy walk to restaurants, shops, and historic downtown. Kitchenette has mini fridge, microwave and portable grill.
Our space is full of local history and has been everything from a home, a hair salon, and most recently the launch site of our three family businesses. The house has been used for all sorts of festivities, including a book launch party and pre-wedding fun. This is a Cape Cod style home that was built in 1950, cozy and clean, think cabin rather than castle. It's convenient to town, which also means there could be traffic on the road outside.
We are located near the intersection of routes 101 and 202 (Dublin and Grove) walking distance from Historic Downtown Peterborough, which includes shops, restaurants, parks, and a movie theater. We're driving distance from countless lakes, mountains, hiking trails, and other classic New Hampshire attractions. Only a mile up the road you will find a grocery store, drug store, bowling alley, and weekly farmers market that takes place during the summer months. We are easily accessible, and a perfect center point for your Monadnock Region stay.
  • The Village is a precious place to visit. The location is not far to downtown but there are groceries, restaurant,... close to the house. The house size is perfect for two couples.

  • My family of five, which includes 3 teenagers, stayed here for a couple of nights while on a ski trip to nearby Crotched Mountain. We were glad to find this affordable, conveniently located apartment, just about 20 minutes from the slopes. It's nothing fancy, but comfortable and met all of our needs. Grocery stores and a good selection of restaurants are within minutes which makes for a better after ski experience. The town of Peterborough is quaint and historic. The owners were great hosts, answering questions in a timely manner.

    Diane2017-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely stay! This is a sweet apartment perfectly located around a few NH "cities" providing history and a beautiful place to explore. The apartment was clean and just as the images showed. Linda responded quickly and did everything she could to make our stay most convenient. And then, she really out did herself by leaving us a give basket in celebration of our wedding night. We were so surprised by this, she really made us feel special!

    Sarah2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Good place to stay. Walking distance to downtown. Off of main road but not to noisy. Lots of toys games and books for entertainment.

  • Great location. Just a few minutes walking distance to downtown.

    Patricia2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Friends and I had a wedding in the area and found Linda's Airbnb. It was great, Linda was very friendly and left us hand picked blueberries. We had a nice time.

    Maureen2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • We were grateful to have a clean, well-equipped place to stay. We particularly appreciated all the toys for the kids! While ideally we would have preferred not to be on a busy intersection, which seemed to us particularly hazardous for young children, we appreciated the convenience of being located so close to town. The best thing was the bowl of fresh local blueberries Linda left in the fridge for us. Linda is a kind and excellent host!

Welcome to my humble(800sq ft) abode in downtown Jaffrey, NH nestled within a few minutes from all of the local wedding venues. Your private room and bathroom is within walking distance to downtown restaurants and dining, family-friendly activities, nightlife, and public transportation. Make yourself at home while enjoying local access to the great outdoors for a weekend! This fun-size, newly updated space is great for couples, solo adventurers, & business travelers. Skiers often stay here too!
The space is perfect if you're coming to town for a spectacular wedding, leaf peeping, the Jaffrey fireworks, or even a weekend getaway to hike the many trails around the area. We have air conditioning seasonally, heat, a fire pit out back, and we are within 5 minutes of a grocery store and 25 minutes from Keene. The guest room offers a quieter spot on a futon with a memory foam topper, 2 drawer nightstand and a table for workspace. A private bathroom is right off your room, perfect for your own space. The kitchen is my favorite with a sliding barn door which houses the microwave. The house is small. I'm upstairs in the loft with my own bathroom, the livingroom and kitchen is shared.
The local bars, close to easy quick food, kimballs, shops, and daily activities such as glass blowing, museums and arts, even passanger plane tours. I also love the options of lakes to drop my kayaks into, so close to the house! Shattuck golf course is within 3 miles of the house if you're up for the challenge. Keene is 25 minutes away, Manchester is an hour away and downtown Peterborough is a quick 10 minute drive. Many local wedding venues are under 5-10 minutes from the house making it a convenient place to stay(and cheaper). We can't forget mount monadnock! Also a 10 minute drive!!! The rail trail is within walking distance as well for some great exercise or even bird watching.
  • Wonderful stay very cozy home

  • Kelly is a very helpful and generous host -likewise her Dad who took me shopping for provisions and told me about a free antique and vintage cars display. Kelly's suggestion of climbing Mt Monadnock via the Dublin route resulted in a fabulous experience. Lovely exuberant dogs. Totally enjoyable stay. Recommended

The Hancock Inn has been welcoming travelers, non-stop, since 1789 - merchants and drovers, trappers and wanderers, artists and statesmen, the famous and the yet-to-be famous and, always, family and friends. The Hancock Inn is the oldest inn in New Hampshire and it remains true to its beginnings, with one of the longest records in a centuries-old traditions of service and comfort.
As the town's center of hospitality, the inn is a great choice for exploring the region and meeting locals as well as other travelers.
The setting is quintessential New England – a town green with a bandstand - a Meetinghouse with a white-steeple in which hangs a bell cast by Paul Revere to ring in the hour - a general store and café across the street providing local conveniences, cuisine & color - a pond at one end and an apple orchard at the other - all surrounded by rolling hills laced with clear ponds and streams and the majestic Mount Monadnock . The inn serves as a convenient base for a wide range of excursions: hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, picking apples, visiting farmers markets, a center for nature conservancy or history and culture, skating, cross-country or downhill skiing.

  • This home was perfect for our large group of friends attending a wedding in the area. There were numerous bedrooms to accommodate 18 of us. The house was very clean and well kept with all the amenities we could need. The beds were all very comfortable! Shane was a wonderful host and even brought us fresh eggs on Sunday morning. He was available via text all weekend if we had questions or concerns. Everyone agreed the house was lovely. Highly recommend!

  • There were 14 of us for two nights, a graduate school group retreat. Seems to be used a lot for weddings, which makes sense. Pros: secluded location, spacious, everything works. Cons: none, really. Pros: - Surroundings: beautiful wooded property just down the hill from the main manor itself, very private (though watch out if weather's bad - it's a curvy, sloped dirt road) - Space/layout: lots of separate rooms with a range of bed sizes, dining room, living room, small study space, etc. Great for individuals/small groups to do their own thing but also meet up as needed. - Everything worked, from heat to stove to... Cons: None, really. - Nearby Harrisville essentially has one general store and not much else. Definitely much more of a rural escape experience than anything urbane, but why otherwise would you go to rural SW NW?

    Marco2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Shane and his mother couldn't have been more warm and friendly hosts. The spot high on the hill just outside Harrisville was spectacular. The space was clean and inviting, with well equipped kitchen. Thanks for a great stay!

The Chalet is made up of 3 apartments. The AirBnB space is the entire upstairs. The Chalet offers a break from all the busyness and noise. A private, very spacious yet cozy room in the hills and trees of Nelson, NH. Nearby Center Pond is a great place to paddle without a lot of effort. The pond is only 33 acres but people come from far and wide to fish and take in the quiet (no motors). Nelson is a quiet, sweet little town with lots of dirt roads to walk and a friendly, welcoming community.
Nelson, NH is a quintessential New England hamlet. There is a very New England church and a center common (If a game of frisbee or volleyball is happening, they will probably be happy to have you join). There is a gorgeous, friendly library, and, not to be missed, the longest running contra dance in New England, held every Monday night at the town hall. Nelson is near to a number of NH gems: Mt. Monadnock, Center Pond, Granite and Silver Lake, the Harrisville Store, also Keene and Peterborough for arts and dining.
  • Owen's place was exactly as described! It was very easy to check into and the perfect place to stay while attending a wedding in nelson. Would certainly stay again!

    Johanna2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Chalet is amazing, we loved it!!! The location in the woods is so peaceful. The wrap around deck lets you enjoy the woods all around. The open space of the Chalet is gorgeous, a soaring ceiling, beautiful woodwork, and such an interesting building. The hosts were so nice, we had several wonderful conversations. There were yummy bagels and cream cheese in the fridge and cookies waiting for us on the dining table, the table itself was amazing. The beds were comfy, the place was spotless, there was lots of hot water and so many interesting books to peruse. The Village of Nelson is very quiet and they have Contra dancing in the Meeting Hall on Monday nights, so much fun! Nearby Center Pond is the perfect place for a swim and the quiet dirt road in front of the house is the perfect place for walk. I can't say enough wonderful things about the Chalet and the hosts Owen and Kate. I would go back in a heartbeat.

  • We loved our stay at the Chalet! The pictures don't quite convey just how spacious and lofty it is. The furnishings are simple and practical, yet full of charm—from the Swiss-style architectural details to the expansive handmade farm table. The bathroom fixtures were impeccably clean and the beds were super comfy. The setting is quiet, peaceful, and surrounded by lush green woods. A short walk leads you to Center Pond, a pristine spot for paddling or fishing. Also nearby are several larger lakes, as well as Mount Monadnock, the highest peak in southern NH. The many dirt roads crisscrossing the town would be great for biking. Owen and Kate were great hosts and a pleasure to interact with. We hope to be back soon!

Owen was an excellent host, was easy to reach and quickly responded to any questions we had during our stay. The location was very easy to find and close to many ponds/lakes and hiking trails. This is definitely a location I will visit again!

  • The Chalet is a beautifully unique property surrounded by incredible New Hampshire nature. Secluded on a quiet dirt road, which is great for a walk or run (make sure you go to the top of the hill, right from the property, for gorgeous views of surrounding valleys and Mt. Monadnock), and just above Center Pond and many other ponds and lakes, it is ideal for a relaxing stay. The great room is beautiful, with amazing wood work, massive fireplace and a well-stocked kitchen and clean bathroom, all surrounded by countless windows with bring the outside in. The wrap-around porch is ideal to take in the sun and listen to the loons from the pond. Owen is flexible and extremely responsive to inquiries and questions. Highly recommended!

My home is close to Monadnock State Park and Franklin Pierce College. Easy access off Route 124. Two hours from Boston and one hour from Manchester. You’ll love my home because of its privacy, comfort and luxury furnishings. My home is wonderful for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers. Small furry family friend may be welcomed - ONLY with pre-approval.
The guest house is a free standing home on the grounds of our home. In the summer one can enjoy the private(heated) pool. In the fall and winter the grounds are great for walking or simply sitting outside your bedroom area wrapped in a wool blanket and the sun warming your face. Wildlife; bear, deer, waterfowl and so much more are routine visitors. During the winter months guests will have access to heated garage parking.
Mount Monadnock is less than a mile away and is great for hiking! Shattuck Golf Course is less than a mile in the other direction and has great varying degrees of golf challenges. At the end of the day, come back for a swim in our heated pool and a snooze on the lounge chairs. Rural grounds with luxury setting - it makes for a perfect afternoon - weekend.
  • This was my first time using Airbnb and it truly set the bar high for future trips. Carolyn was readily available whenever we needed her. We were greeted upon arrival by her, her husband, and their absolutely adorable and friendly dog. Their guest home, which was more beautiful than the pictures, sits in their backyard with a picture-perfect view of their gorgeous multi-acre yard. She had a fully stocked refreshments fridge and even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine. At night, the sounds of nothing but nature was serene and a much needed break from the city noises I am used to. We spent the majority of our trip hiking; we spent almost a full day taking advantage of Monadnock State Park- which offers trails for outdoorsmen of all types. Carolyn was also so kind to leave an extensive restaurant guide book for us, and we had nothing but five star meals at every restaurant. This was an incredible experience and I plan to visit again!

  • We loved the feel of Carolyn's guest house. The open floor plan and high ceilings make it really nice. Plus the radiant heated floors are nice and cozy on cold winter mornings. Would definitely recommend!

  • Carolyn's place could not have been more beautiful. She was kind, helpful, and generous, and I had a wonderful time.

  • We had such a great time this past weekend! Carolyn was lovey and the guest house is so beautiful! There was wine and a snack when we arrived which was so amazingly thoughtful. The property is so beautiful and we got to see ducks, ducklings, geese and goslings! It worked out great bringing our dog there. We are planning to return in a few months. Thank you!

  • Sheila's place was like a second home to me during my internship. She willingly bought an A/C for the room since my stay was the duration of the summer. Excellent host, I would stay again at the drop of a hat. Sheila even refunded me a week when my plans changed once my internship concluded. Sheila and her neighboring family are sweet, welcoming folks. Thanks for the 2 month stay, it was a memorable summer!

  • Sheila made us feel right at home. She was warm and generous and provided European style breakfast items every morning for us to choose from. There was space in the common refrigerator to store our food items if needed and plenty of room to prepare meals if we wanted to. Our accommodations were very comfortable. Sheila is very personable and loves to converse about art and politics and anything else of interest. She is an exceptionally good artist in her own right with beautiful life like portraits of her lovely daughters on the walls. We will definitely stay with her again when we visit New Hampshire this fall.

  • Staying at Sheila's place was my first experience with Airbnb and I couldn't have been more positively introduced! From her directions to the fresh flowers in every room (including mine) to very delicious, healthful breakfast items from her CSA and a well appointed kitchen (gas stove and awesome cast iron cookware included) to maps and newspapers and considerate balance between great conversation and independence/privacy, staying with Sheila was like truly being a personal guest in the home of a friend (with great taste!). The short 5-minute walk into town -- my first reason for choosing this place -- turned out to be just icing on the cake. If you have a choice of where to stay, choose this place. You will be pleased you did!

  • Sheila is a GREAT hostess; very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. She even provides a variety of breakfast fixings (you make & clean up), but a lot of organic and good things. VERY accommodating. The room is comfy and has its own entrance IF you need it; LOTS of interesting books and two GREAT cats. I would suggest IF you use her place to bring a pair of slippers or something as she has a "no shoes" policy in the house. But I HIGHLY recommend her and plan to go back whenever I'm in the area.

  • Sheila is a very pleasant and accommodating hostess, whose company added to the pleasure of our trip. We stayed for two nights and had two extremely delicious breakfasts (the best omelette I've ever had with fresh organic spinach and feta cheese). The house is pleasant and within walking distance of Peterborough's downtown, (we went to the movies one night), and a short drive to hikes all over the Monadnock region. We usually stay with relatives or friends in the area (where we used to live), but we will definitely stay with Sheila again when the need arises.

  • Sheila is a wonderful, friendly and very accommodating host as well as an amazing artist. Her charming home is very cozy and comfortable. She showed me around and told me I was more than welcome to help myself to any food staples in the kitchen and where everything was and how everything worked. Her cozy living room is perfect for sitting and reading a good book. My bedroom was cozy and the bed is very comfortable. Lots of interesting books on the shelves in the room if you want something to read. The bedroom reminded me of a cozy bedroom in a hotel in Amsterdam I stayed in when traveling. It's a nice quiet part of town yet its within a short walking distance to shops and restaurants in the quaint town of Peterborough. There are always events and sights to check out in the area. A nice place to stay for a weekend getaway, plus having your own entry to your cozy room was great.

  • Sheila was very warm and inviting. The space was comfortable and everything was lovely. I would definitely recommend her place.

  • I had a wonderful, comfortable, relaxing time during my five nights at Sheila's. The room was cozy and charming, the bed provided a great night's sleep, and there were many thoughtful touches, such as a bottle of water and lovely soaps. Sheila's warmth and kindness made it easy for me to feel at home throughout her lovely house, which is filled with beautiful art work, great books, and delightful plants, minerals and the like. Every morning, delicious and hearty breakfast items were available, and Sheila often prepared the meal for me. The outdoors, filled with colors from the lovingly-tended garden, included comfortable seating and a screened canopy in the back yard for enjoying nature in the peaceful, sweet neighborhood. And if all of this is not enough, the charming downtown Peterborough is about a five-minute walk away. The most wonderful part of my stay, however, was getting to know Sheila. Her great stories, her fascinating and admirable life, her abundant warmth, thoughtfulness and kindness, made me feel as though I truly was going home each evening. It was a privilege to meet her and stay in her home. I hope to do so again some day. The experience was so much more wonderful than a typical night's stay. You will be very happy if you stay at Sheila's. I very highly recommend it.
