Thank you so much MiWa and Family for this fabolous experience and your help. We hope you in Argentina!

  • Acogedor , austero y sencillo alojamiento. Tal cual se muestra en las fotos. Miwa siempre estuvo atenta a responder nuestras consultas y brindarnos asesoramiento. Gracias Miwa !

  • It was just an amazing stay-- The house was simply the best... awesome with a kitchen with all utensils and condiments, everything(or more) what you need for cooking at own home. The cute private house was tastefully decorated in old traditional way which made even a Japanese as me, was surprised to see.... It was just like a mini museum. "Irori"(traditional indoor fireplace) was our highlight about this place. It was the best stay ever during our 21days traveling thru Japan. But what made this place extraordinary wasn't just how great the accommodation was but the hosts, Miwa's parents's hospitality was beyond our expectation. I saw good old Japanese tradition of Omotenashi spirit in them. They love to communicate with guests, so don't be shy if you stay at their place...! Miwa's mother is a teacher of "Ikebana"(Japanese flower arrangement) and "Sadou"(tea ceremony) as well! Shiojiri doesn't look touristy place but very peaceful neighborhood and also convenient place to take a train to start Nakasendou trail, and don't forget to visit the beautiful Atera Revine, it's walking distance from Miwa's house! I doubt if there are any other AirBnB which can match their level of both hospitality and accommodation....! We both would love to come back in future, even just to visit them, saying hello!

  • I would recommend Miwa's place highly. The house is adorable. There is a great viewof the mountains. It is close to Tsumago and hot springs. The house is well equipped including the kitchen. Miwa's parents are the hosts and are extremely kind and welcoming. I only wish we had stayed longer!

    Jessica2016-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely charming stay at this lovely wooden house. Miwa and her parents were fantastic, doing everything from ensuring we made it, to hot water bottles for the beds. Nojiri is a rustic small town that's interesting to explore on its own with the Japanese Alps in the distance making a gorgeous backdrop. The Ramen restaurant marked on the map they provide is an absolute treat and very welcome after hiking the ravine trail. If you're going to visit the old post town of Tsumago, there are free bag storage lockers there which helps it squeeze it in.

    Jarod2016-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stay 4 nights in the Miwa's house and her family is a really good experience and the place is amazing too. We travel for all Japan and because the experience is so nice we want to stay two weeks more or one month, jajaja. The fathers of Miwa are delicious people. Miwa's family is the best host in Japan and the house have all the commodities and is really beautiful, old style and really authentic. The house to the real people you see when you walk around the village. Nojiri is in the midle of the mountains, but really near to the train station, Magome and Tsumago and Atera Ravine. If one day we come back to Japan sure to Miwa's house.

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Koda and Kero! Their place is very unique and beautiful. What made our trip the best though was Koda's hospitality and offer to drive us everywhere we needed to go. Our train was initially cancelled and he was very communicative and suggested another train. He picked us up at the station, brought us to an onsen, drove us to dinner, and then brought us back home. In the morning a very light breakfast was provided (toast and yogurt) and then a bunch of snacks for us to take with us on our hike from Tsumago to Magome. He had helpful brochures and maps and brought us to the train station first in the morning to drop our bags and helped us get our tickets to our next location. He then drove us a half hour to the start of our hike! We would definitely recommend this!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Koda and Kero's beautiful temple. Koda picked us up at Ena station and gave us a tour of Ena city. When we arrived at the temple he helped us plan our walk from tsumago to magome and later in the evening we had Keros wonderful dinner. The following day Koda drove us to tsumago and provided us with snacks and drinks for the hike. They are the perfect hosts - I would recommend this place to everyone!

  • Staying at Koda and Kero's home was an amazing end to our trip. It was always a dream of me and my mother to walk the Nakasendo road, but walking it with the knowledge en hospitality provided by Koda and Kero made it so much more special. What an amazing home they have (everything you can think of or need is there) and having Koda as a local guide made this our favorite stay in Japan. Thank you so much for having us and we hope to return some day!

  • Our stay at Koda's place was fantastic and one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. I don't know where to start with Koda's great hospitality, it was all so good! Koda picked us up at the station in Ena and gave us a tour around town explaining its great history and taking us to some spots for photos. Once we had arrived at the property he even offered to drive us out to a restaurant for our dinner! We went for dinner and met Koda's wife and daughter and afterwards we went back to the house and they explained the Japanese etiquette and traditions for drinking tea and having guests - all really interesting! On the morning of the Magome - Tsumago walk it was really raining so Koda bought us all umbrellas! So thankful for that :) He then drove us to the start of the walk in Tsumago and helped with booking train tickets to Kanazawa. Amazing. Koda is simply one of the best hosts I've had through airbnb and you should definitely stay at his place. The property itself is great. Really cosy and Koda provides a great breakfast. What you need if you are doing the Magome - Tsumago walk :)

  • Fantastic short stay with incredibly helpful hosts who made the trip for us - we wish we booked to stay longer!! Very highly recommended.

  • Koda and Kero's place is as wonderful as all the other reviews say it is. Koda was an excellent communicator before and during our trip, and we felt comfortable and at ease during our whole stay. Koda picked us up from Ena station, shuttled us to a restaurant for dinner, helped us interpret the menu, then brought us back to the beautiful temple for our night's stay. He walked us through the plan for the next day's Magome-Tsumago through hike, and set us up to do laundry. The next morning, he graciously drove us to the train station to drop our heavy bags before the hike, then took us to Magome. He even gave us a snack for our hike and provided me with a translated piece of paper to provide to restaurants letting them know that I prefer a vegetarian meal. The home was clean, comfortable, and well stocked with breakfast and snack items. Our stay with Koda and Kero was a highlight of our trip to Japan. If you're thinking of staying with them - do it!

  • Much more than a simple Airbnb stay. Koda picked us up at the station, drove us to a restaurant, a supermarket, told us the story of the Buddha (for my daughter's school project), gave us helpful tips and literature about the Nakasendo trail, took us on a tour of lesser known parts of the trail, drove us to the beginning of our route. This is Airbnb deluxe!

  • Very clean and spacious accomodation. It is about a 20-min walk from Iwamura Old Town District in a very tranquil place amidst rice fields (you can arrange to be picked up from the station if you have luggage). Keiko-san was very friendly and helpful, would recommend here!

    Stéphane2016-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Loved staying at Keiko's house. She's such a warm person with a good sense of humor. The place is in a remote area but she drove me twice to the train station. The house itself is quite luxurious, though the bed was just a matrass on the attic (not for people with a fear of hights. It was good as a base to go to Iwamura. Thanks Keiko for the stay, still laughing when I think of translating my laughter with (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) translate :)

    Sophie2017-04-13T00:00:00Z

    Yoshinori2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • I had a fantastic time staying g with Keiko and her family. I was able to buy wonderful homemade dinner from them, and there was lots of food. The guesthouse is very clean and spacious. The loft I stayed in is up a long ladder, so be aware of that, though there is a ground-level room. The setting is delightful and quiet; I recommend a stroll through the village. I was made very welcome during my stay, and would gladly recommend the place.

    Andrew2015-11-24T00:00:00Z
It is possible to speak Japanese, English or French to the host. Arigato.

Ichikawa Ryokan, managed by Sachiko the 16th generation of Ichikawa, is well located for people who want to enjoy traditional lodging and the Nakasendo Trail to Tsumago (about 7 h of walk from the ryokan). The ryokan is 5 min by walk from the station. This annonce is no meal (Attention!!)
  • We booked this place as a base for doing the Tsumago-Magome walk. I’m quite happy we chose this Ryokan in Ena as I feel it was excellent value compared to the high mark ups in the post town, they’re still an easy train ride away. This Ryokan is spotless, comfortable and has a long history. The mother and daughter provided friendly and attentive service. Try the dinner or at least the breakfast, it’s worth it!

    Brittany2017-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Unbelievably for the price this is a genuine ryokan run by the same family for 16 generations. As soon as I arrived they prepared the ofuri (large bath) for me. Also they had heated sheets on the futon! Be aware that there's not much English spoken but that's all part of the charm. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in the vicinity of the nakasendo path this is easily accessible to the Magome/Tsumago/Nagiso section and is less than 5 minutes walk from Ena train station. I definitely recommend if you are looking for a true ryokan experience at an affordable price. (I didnt have any meals so can't comment on that)

    Benedict2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful little Ryokan on the Nakasendo Way in Ena, where the family has been hosting travellers for 400 years. It's a short (200m) walk from the station and only two JR stops from Nakatsugawa, where many choose to head to hike the famous section of the Way between Magome and Tsumago. It was my first experience of a Ryokan, which is a little different, but Sashiko and the staff were friendly and warm, and easily guided me through a wonderful stay. Highly recommend!

    Scott2017-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • One hour train from Nagoya, 400 years old building, one of Nakasendo Trail's Inns, no travel hot hustle and bustle, a perfect traditional hotel experience in Ryokan い ち 川, this trip can find the best Japanese memories. It is recommended that guests book a hotel for dinner and breakfast, that is 一泊二食, a complete stay experience. The hostel is run by the hostess of the family, that is 女将. If you are lucky, you can see the cover of the old and the young 49th,50th,51th, three generations of beautiful hostess, together with a photo, absolutely wonderful.

    Yongtao2017-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this charming ryokan with its gracious owners - 3 generations of which came to greet us over dinner. The food was delicious, the staff both efficient and friendly, the big double bath blissful after a long walk and the tatami was genuine - a rarity these days. The town has a Hiroshige museum and is a good base for walking the Nakashendo highway.

    Petria2017-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice ryokan in a charming little town !

    Nicolas2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • This ryokan was a highlight of our trip. We were greeted by the three generations of the family dressed in kimonos who saw to our needs in a charming way. Our room was traditional and beautiful, spacious and warm and comfortable. The meals were quite expensive but of the highest quality, ithe best Japanese food we have had in our 2 weeks here. We went from there to Magome by train and bus to walk a leg of the Nakasendo trail.

    Alex2017-04-04T00:00:00Z

  • This guesthouse is a must-stay for travelers. The family is very kind and helpful, and the house is tidy, clean with all possible equipment. Very well located in a beautiful unspoilt village, well worth a visit

    Yoann2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • The guesthouse is very nice, it was renovated with modern infrastructure but kept the traditional vibe. The rooms are very comfortable. We especially enjoyed a barbecue night with Hiromitsu and some friends which we really enjoyed! The place is well located in the castle town which is a real nice village with traditional wood houses. We would definetly recommend this place!

    Inès2017-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was pretty much perfect. We stayed in July and it was much cooler up in the mountains. Upon arrival we were picked up and brought straight to the door. Hiromitsu also helped us by taking to Magome for a beautiful walk. We were also lucky enough to be stayingl during a local summer festival where and enjoyed strolling through the cute neighbourhood sipping cold sake and making ceramic coasters. We highly recommend staying here and can't wait to come back.

    Angus2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Hiromitsu and his wife have a wonderful guest house. They helped us with our baggage and sorted out a place for us to eat. That guest house has been beautifully renovated in a traditional style. We slept well in our cosy room and in the morning used the lovely showers and kitchen.

    Alison2017-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Yanagiya guest house was a fantastic stay. Hiromitsu is very kind and even drive me to some places I couldn't imagine. Iwamura town is calm and kept it's old style japanese town. There are not many shop or restaurant nearby but the sushi restaurant next to guest house is a great place to make unforgetable new friends and eat very tasty japanese food. The guest house is an old style japanese house very well renewed. Room and shared areas are nice and clean. The room is also japanese style with tatami and futon. This place worth staying longer than planned.

  • We booked this place to stay on the way to Magome but this guesthouse and the town turned out to be the highlight of our trip. The guethouse is very clean, new and well equppied but still has a traditional feeling. Hiromitsu was one of the best hosts we have had anywhere in the world. He introduced us to Tomo restaurant where the food was amazing and I had the best Sake I tried in Japan. The beds are comfortable and clean and it was warm in the winter. I recommend making a trip to Iwamura town if you are travelling in the area.

  • This place is perfect for the tsumago magome trail. Keiko picked us up at the IIbama station and drove us back in the morning. Good value for money and a one night good sleep on the country side

  • Amazing experience, the house is awesome! Keiko was love y, picked us up and organised a delicious sushi dinner for us. its in a peaceful small town which was great to experience. would love to go back one day.

    2017-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Keiko is lovely. We arrived late and she came to pick us up to the station. Her house is in the country side surrounded by rice crops and other individual houses. It is a 5min drive to Iwamura, an old small town that is a must see!! Keiko kindly gave us a lift till there so we could spend our day there. Also she talked to the people till she found a shop where we could leave our backpacks. Th house is fully equipped like a home! And ther is air condition that warmed up our stays we slept very comfortable in a futon :) I would definitely go back

    sara2017-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very nice and clean which easily makes you feel at home. Keiko does not speak English very well but her son-in-law does and they helped us out whenever possible. For instance Keiko picked us up from iibama station and dropped us there whenever we asked, this was very nice. We could ask them anything and they were both very friendly. The location is very beautiful and relaxed. There is a place to go horse riding downstaires but it is extremely expensive : 150 euros for a 50minute ride. The house is separate from the main building where the family lives and has all equipment necessary. Bring your own food and drinks as there is not a lot close by. The place can only be reached by local train which is 430 one way p.p and takes about half an hour. The JR does not go there. Take this into account that if you are looking for a place in tranquility go here but otherwise maybe something else is better because you will take some time arriving there.

  • One thing that I hadn't realised from looking at reviews of this accommodation was just how much fun both Koda and Kero are to be with. We loved staying with them and were made to feel so welcome and very comfortable. Koda is so kind and so helpful in driving you around, such as collecting you from the station and for the walk between Magome and Tsumago, and Kero cooks some amazing food - neither of us are vegetarian, but we loved the food Kero cooked for us. We also appreciated the food left in the fridge for us for breakfast and snacks. We'd been slightly concerned that the rules about cleanliness etc might mean that it was not a relaxing or fun place to stay, but we had nothing to worry about. The accommodation is great and both Koda and Kero are a joy to be with. I thoroughly recommend staying here. Both Koda and Kero made it a real pleasure to stay here.

  • Believe all of the gushing reviews. The accommodation is in a beautiful and absolutely spotless wooden building. Koda and Kero are incredible. Kero cooked us a delicious dinner and breakfast the next morning. They're unbelievable hosts and will go out of their way to make sure you have the best possible stay. It was my birthday the weekend we were there and Koda gave me a beautiful Japanese cup as a gift and even rustled up some sparklers for us in the evening. He happily drove us to loads of sights around Ena, took us for matcha tea, organised a pottery class for us and dropped us off and picked us up at the end of our walk along the Nakasendo. If you want to get away from the touristy spots and immerse yourself in real Japan BOOK ARCHANGEL ENA NOW.

  • We had a fantastic stay. Koda and Kera were so helpful picking us up at the train station, helping us with a restaurant for dinner, driving us to Magome and picking us up at the end of the walk and providing so much information about the history of the area along the way. And then a delicious Japanese curry dinner prepared by Kera for dinner. Thank you for a very memorable stay.

  • Our stay at Koda and Kero's unique accommodation was an absolute highlight of our Japan holiday. The accommodation itself is spotless and very well equipped. We appreciated having access to a washing machine and being able to make tea and coffee in the room. The dodecagon is truly beautiful and unique and the scent of the cedar is gorgeous. What truly made our stay though was the genuine, warm hospitality that Koda and Kero provide. Koda picked us up from the train station and then proceeded to drive us anywhere that we needed to go over the next few days, including to and from dinner, to Magome in the the morning and then collecting us in the evening from Tsumago (highly recommend this beautiful walk) and to the supermarket. He gave us lots of little history lessons along the way which were fascinating. Upon discovering that I was a vegetarian, Koda and Kero provided me with a soup stock that I could take with me and a note written in Japanese for me to present to the restaurant. Kero cooked the most delicious meal for us on our 2nd night and we were only sorry that she was unable to join us. Koda and Kero absolutely went above and beyond in every way, including having my makeup couriered to me in Tokyo after I left it behind. These two are the real deal - very, very special people. I cannot thank them enough for such a gorgeous experience. I would recommend this accommodation to anyone seeking a truly unique Japanese experience.

  • Koda and Kero are warm and welcoming hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy Ena and the Nakasendo trail. Koda was very kind to drive us to Megome and pick us up in Tsumago. He is from Ena, so he knows a lot of history about the area. They also recommended that we see Iwamura village, just a half hour train ride away from Ena. This old castle town was beautiful and we practically had the place to ourselves! Definitely worth checking out. The Archangel dome house is beautiful and probably the most comfortable place we stayed in Japan. The space is huge and everything is so clean. The bathtub is great after a long day of hiking! Kero's cooking was delicious and we really appreciated all the snacks and tea they left for us. We enjoyed all the time we spent with Koda and Kero and all of the interesting conversation. Thank you so much for the hospitality! We loved staying in the Archangel dome!

  • We had a wonderful stay at ArchangelEna. The hosts Koda and Kero were very friendly and helpful. The house we stayed in was comfortable and clean. We had everything we needed. The main purpose of our visit was the walk between Magome and Tsumago, which was very easy to organize as Koda brought us to Magome and picked us up in Tsumago. We can recommend this place to everyone who is going to visit the Ena-aria.

    Maria2016-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was simply the best! The architecture, facilities, hospitality and kindness of Koda and Kero all added up to a fantastic experience. Koda was an informative guide and Kero a great cook. Everything exceeded expectations.

  • Nice house in the relatively quiet village Sakashita. The location is great for exploring the Nakasendo route (Magome, Tsumago) with a short train ride. (The only drawback is that they don't go very often). Misaki made us feel very welcome. Together with her husband and adorable little Leo they are sharing their house with you. The quality is really good, with enough space and very comfortable large beds. You are sharing part of the living room, which was no problem at all for us. If you really want privacy you can always retreat to the bedroom.

    Bram2017-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • I have nothing more to add to all previous reviews. They all convey exactly what me and my friend experienced about the accommodation, town and host. Misaki is lovely, her baby is too and her husband seems awesome (met with him only shortly). The house is clean and big. It was most certainly a great experience as part of a 5-day Nakasendo walk.

    Kana2017-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Misaki's place. Not only could we stay in a wonderful old Japanese house, Misaki also introduced us to many aspects of Japanese culture. It is great to talk to her, and we had a really wonderful time with her and her family during the stay. Our children also loved the stay. They even made friends with the neighbor's children. The house is clean, very big, and very quiet. Everything you need is there. The house is in a quite rural village. We were the only foreigners there, but everyone was very friendly, helpful and interested. This really is a very special Airbnb stay. Extremely recommendable.

  • Misaki's place is a nice authentic place with an old look but with modern facilities. Misaki was very friendly and helpfull. We shared kitchen and bathroom which was convenient.

    Herm2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • This 150 year old house was previously owned by the chief/mayor of the small town. Wanting to share the unique living experience with more people, this house has kept most of its original state. Most (if not all) of its classic furniture are found/donated. You will probably need to drive if you are looking to stay at this place. Look for the town’s community hall/library and you will be able to locate this property. The room you will stay in is simple yet subtly cozy. We stayed with Misaki but learned that the caretakers of this property should be changing in a couple of months.

Come and stay in our wooden house, called Soyokaze-Shokudo, in the mountains of Kushihara village. You can stay with our family and experience rural life in Japan. We are a lumberjack / arborist family, so we look after the surrounding forest.
We are a very friendly family and we are excited to show the world our beautiful village. Hayao Miyazaki (director of the Studio Ghibli films) sometimes visits the forests near our house for inspiration! An unusual culture of our area is that we often capture and eat insects. There is a researcher from Oxford University who stays in our village to learn more about it. You can try this if you like, but don't worry; you don't have to eat them! We can also show you our forest shrine and if you come on the 3rd Sunday of October, you can experience our festival where hundreds of people play drums and flutes, and we have traditional Japanese dancing. There are many beautiful walks in the surrounding mountains, and if you like the outdoors, then it's sometimes possible for you to stay in our big tent on the mountain side.
The village has a very good Onsen (Japanese hot spring) with indoor and outdoor baths, a sauna and even sometimes cherry blossom baths. There is a very small grocery store (the nearest supermarket is in Akechi). There are also two good restaurants (one of them is connected to the Onsen) where you can eat. Also there is a place where you can learn to cook some local foods.
  • A place that is out of the way but is worth the 2.5 hour journey into the rural areas. Plenty of greenery to feed your soul, and Joe & Lily (their dogs) are the friendliest dogs you can ever encounter. Daisuke and Shoko have three charming and energetic daughters, and oftentimes make me regret not learning Japanese because that language barrier is so frustrating. Minori, Sakura and Soyoka are the most beautiful girls of Kushihara! *Mark my words heh* Waking up to a beautiful sunrise and sleeping to a beautiful sunset is what makes this trip so magical. Honestly, get out of the city and stay here. Also, thank you Shoko-san for bringing me to Akechi Junior High for a Home ec class. It was the funnest experience!!! :)

  • Daisuke/ Shoko and their family were very nice people. They treated us like family for the short few days we were there. The location was off-the-grid and no GPS could have guided us to their house. We met Daisuke at the local hot spring and he led us to his home. I'd recommend renting a car if you are lazy like me and would like to explore the local (hilly) area. We enquired before booking about the pets as wife is not a fan of dogs. They were very accommodating and arranged an alternate route for us to enter and leave the house without trespassing the dogs' territory. Jo and Lily (their dogs) are very friendly and well behaved. Coming from a concrete jungle, to fall asleep and wake up with all the sounds of nature was a real treat. There is no air-con only electric fan but its perfectly adequate as the forest cools right down in the evening. We enjoyed some very nice home cooking by Shoko using mostly local ingredients, including eggplants from Shoko's parents farm! Their daughters (3 of them, I feel sorry for you Daisuke!) inherit the same friendly genes from their parents and are fun to be around despite the language barrier. Will be back when we feel like another dose of japanese country living.

  • Beautiful traditional Japanese house. Lovely forest. Great hosts. A highlight of our trip to Japan.

    Alison2016-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Shoko and Daisuke welcomed us into their home and into their community.  It was a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo city, and was a great place for us to unwind and for the children to run free.  Our children and their children got along real fine.  We got to experience every day Japanese country living, from home cooked meals to digging sweet potatoes and taking timber to market.  The onsen was awesome and we went everyday we could (it's closed Wednesdays).  We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Shoko and her family.

    Keith2014-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Not sure where to start since everything was amazing at Shoko & Daisuke... They welcomed us like we where part of the family. They genuinely took care of us! Their daughters were also full of love and kindness. The place itself is a bit remote but that's the beauty of it! You can walk alone in the forest or go to the local onsen and take a bath outside in front of the mountains. Shoko's food is so good and really home cooked. We got to visit the local school where everybody was so kind with us. If you want to sample the real Japanese countryside life, don't hesitate one second to visit Shoko & Daisuke.

    Nicolas2016-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, this place was easily our most memorable time spent in Japan! Staying with Daisuke and Shoko was more like staying with fond family. They picked us up from the station, took us into their house and poured kindness over us. Among the exceptional things that happened there was when Daisuke discovered that two of my friends are in a band and to celebrate, he set up a stage, lights, a huge BBQ (including a wild boar that he'd caught), fireworks, and invited half of the village to come and watch them play. We could not have felt any more welcome. Shoko made us some delicious fresh meals, Daisuke took a couple of us on his trail runs, where I climbed a waterfall. The local hot spring is amazing - rivaling the best Tokyo hot springs. Maybe the Sakura bath will be there when you go... You mustn't expect this place to be ultra clean and organized - expect adventure and incredible hospitality instead. It's a working house with a family of young children so there are toys and books strewn throughout! If you're looking for a prim B&B this is not the place, but if you are looking for an unmatchable immersive experience in Japanese culture, you can't do better!

    Sunil2014-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Shoko, Daisuke and her three wonderful children was great. It was such a nice break from all the city sightseeing we had been doing. It's a bit out of the way but the journey on the small single carriage train was definitely a unique experience. The town and surrounding forest are beautiful along with the local onsen and waterfall. Shoko's hospitality was more than we could have expected, they were very accommodating and the food was great! We got to see how a real Japanese village come together and create a community - definitely a memorable stay!

    Sonya2016-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Wooowoow, if need to return to one place in japan we will return to Shoko's house. the place isn't big but full of love and Joy. We had happy and most tasty dinner together. our children had party with shoko's lovely daughters every night. we had two fantastic hiking tours to the water fall and to the forest. we met interesting people in the village that explained us about fabric painting, glass art vegetables grow and more. Daiske ( Shoko's husband) is the best funmaker guy we have met in japan. thank you Shoko for making our 4 nights in Kushihara unforgettable :)

We joined their party, and enjoyed it. Thank you Miki, family and friends.

  • We were very happy to be first visiter in this house. This is very impressive house we have never lived in. The house is 300 years old and really amazing atmosphere. We were amazed how traditional this house is although we are japanese. This house is located in really countryside and we can see very beautiful stars in night sky and there is hot spring close to the house. It is impressively comfortable to live. We really recommend here to every foreigner who wants to live in real traditional japanese house(URL HIDDEN)私たちがこの宿に宿泊する最初の客だったようですが、感動的な宿でした。

The spa is about 15 minutes walk. Ogawa and the staff at the office are extremely friendly and helpful. It's a 40 minute bus ride to Magome. We highly recommend this place!

Our guest room is in the rear of the house with french shutters making the room very quiet and if desired very dark. You have access to a toilet and Shower, which usually is exclusively yours.
A cozy, quiet room that comfortably sleeps one (but a second person could sleep on a futon on the floor,) in a solar powered log house on a hillside overlooking Mizuno valley. A private room in a elegant log house on a hillside in Seto, a city famous for its ceramics. Enjoy touring the potteries, hiking the trails in the nearby national forest and enjoying the views of Mizuno Valley from the expansive deck. This small and cosy space could accommodate a second person with a Futon laid on the floor. Ask for more details. The room is part of our private residence, which is a solar powered Log Home. The guest will have access to a private shower and toilet and can enjoy the living room common area and the deck and the garden. There is also free high speed wifi. We also have a charming border collie who loves people, particularly those who play with her. You are also welcome to put food in our fridge and we can discuss the use of cooking facilities and/or joining us for meals. There is also an outdoor Hot and Cold Shower which you are welcome to use as well as BBQ equipment We like having guests in our home and will interact as need be. The train nearest train station is 1.5 kilometres and can be walked in 15 minutes. But we are happy to pick up and drop off depending our work schedules. Hillside Place is located in Suihokucho overlooking the pleasant Mizuno Valley in North Seto. We are on the southern slope of Jokoji Mountain which has many hiking trails, campgrounds, a park and a Temple. On our hillside are a number of potteries. The nearest train station is Naka Mizuno and it is about a 15 minute walk. Other train stations are Kozoji ( 2000-2500 Cab fare) and Shin Seto ( 1200-1500 cab fare). We do have a bike or two and you are welcome to use it to explore the area. We are 300 meters from the trailhead which allows you easy access to the forest trails that take you to the top of Jokoji mountain, a 4 km hike to the summit. If you are interested in visiting Seto, a city famous for its ceramics and artists, our home is an ideal place to stay. Or if you are simply wanting to get out of the bustle of the city and experience a quieter pace then you will find Hillside Place a relaxing place to stay a night or two. We sometimes use our home for weddings, fashion shows and indoor concerts and other events that serve the community. But these are events are by no means frequent The guest will have access to a private shower and toilet and can enjoy the living room common area and the deck and the garden. • It's such an enjoyable and pleasant experience to stay in Lowell & Kande's place for my trip to Nagoya. It is very thoughtful for them to understand what you need and what you expect in the trip. The place is exactly the same as shown in the photos and It's one of the warmest and loveliest house I have ever met. The environment is so relaxing and tranquil to be your perfect place to refresh and rejuvenate yourself. I especially miss the conversation with the family and the wonderful time playing with Skylie, the cutest and smartest border collie! I would recommend this home stay for those who are craving for a special staying experience and are so sick of those tiny hotels in Japan.

  • Lowell and Kande are an exemplar of Airbnb host. They are caring and friendly, and make you feel home the moment you enter their house. It's a great way to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The apartment offers a relaxing view of the neighborhood. It's about a 20-25 mins walk from the Nakamizuno station, and about 50 mins train ride from Nagoya or Sakae Station.

    Charlene2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • We passed our wonderful 2 days vacation is Lowell' s house like old friends... They are so sweet. so kind. and the dog is so smart. we eat trout fished by ourselves. Mrs Lowell is charming lady, cook so well... and arrange another place for our last minute friends from Toyko. we and our friends enjoyed a lot about our stay there. certainly we will go back again. the house is vey charming, total in wood with garden and nice balcony. i recommend to all.

  • Fabulous place near Seto and Nagoya. Lowell, Kande and Sylie were super welcoming and friendly. The room is great and their home is so lovely. Felt very relaxed here. Lowell and Kande were very helpful. Would love to stay here again and explore more of the area.

  • Lowell is a very friendly and entertaining host. You feel welcome from the first moment and he and his wife are very open minded and they will care about you as much as they can. I felt like I was at home from the first second I got in his House, warm and comfortable. I had a few very funny, interesting days and I learned a lot. He respond really quick and explained me a lot. Also his dog is very friendly and nice, she always wants to play. If you like long and good conversations and a relaxed atmosphere then you are definitely right here. I will book definitly a second time if I came to Japan again!

  • It was a nice couple and i felt welcome right away. They are really warmhearted people. Truly magnificent to be around, with great stories and experiences to share. Open minded, caring and flexible. Their house was a wonderful, open and light. The first thing you notice is that the house didn't feel Japanese at all. An amazing view from the deck it has. The room is cozy and comfortable. The area was just perfect, and the nearest station just a little walk away. A great place to stay The dog was friendly and full of play.

  • Lowell and Kande are amazing hosts and their home is amazing. Nestled snugly in Suihokucho away from the hustle and bustle of Nagoya. A peaceful place to hang out, relax, unwind. Take a stroll up Jokoji mountain (weather permitting), chill on the deck or try to win the battle of wills with the adorable Sky (very clever border collie) fetch or tug of war. Lowell & Kande are amazing company and they make you fell right at home from the moment you arrive. An absolute amazing experience for a first timer to Airbnb.

    Andrew2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lowell and Kande were so friendly and welcoming! I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to AirBnB. They gave me clear and detailed instructions about how to get to their place, and so I had no problems getting there. I enjoyed talking to them, hearing more about their lives, and playing with their sweet dog. Breakfast was also very good. Lowell and Kande were kind enough to arrange an all day ceramics lesson with their friend, Minoru san, who was a wonderful and patient teacher. Minoru san even took me to a ceramics museum in Seto since we had extra time, and also picked me up and took me back to Lowell and Kande's place when the day was over. And in the morning, Kande kindly took me to the station. I had a really lovely time staying with Lowell and Kande, and I hope to come back to visit again.

The house has two parts, owner's living area and guests area divided by a door with lock. Almost entire house. The guest's area, two authentic Japanese tatami mat rooms with private washroom. Large kitchen with full equipment and fridge for guest. Large windows and lots of daylight. It might be nice just relax all day in the room! Unfortunately there is no shower/bath but there are hot springs in the area.
Two rooms, kitchen, washroom and private entrance.
    Quiet residential area

  • This is a wonderful home to stay in with a fantastic family history and beautiful features. The hosts were concerned for their home and concerned for the comfort of our stay in equal measure and the house rules were nothing out of expectation. I thought I may feel uncomfortable with two young children and potential for breakage of so many family nick naks but the hosts made our children feel at home straight away and most things were well secured with lots of family games to be played with. The local public bath was a totally new (and entertaining) experience and I'd suggest you go a bath with the locals. Our only issue (reflected in the review) was it was impossible for us to find as the address did not map on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) (or our hire car sat nav) in English. We got the local tourist information to map it but it was still at a different point on the road - we actually drove past the house a number of times and spent a couple of hours trying to find the place and knocking on the wrong doors. The telephone on the site was not up to date so it was only when we finally managed to get a message the host met us at the train station and took us the short distance to the house. Get a pic of the house and accurate directions (it's not difficult once you know what to look for). A really lovely place to stay, thank you.

  • The host and host helper are extremely kind and helpful person. We are grateful that he drove us to the bus terminal in the early morning and took us to the convenience store even though it was in the night. They always try to help with suggestions, transport whenever you need it. The room is very clean and relax at night. The room service have tea, snacks, towels and even with extra blankets! This place is very close to a convenience store. Nice place and very helpful host! We would highly recommend Natsuko's place if you are going to Nagano!

  • You can feel what is called "omotenashi" during your stay in this lovely house (a dictionary will tell you omotenashi means “hospitality, treatment, reception, service”). The host's families are extremely kind and helpful. They helped us a lot with many many suggestions, very kindly. It's a transitional Japanese house, with tatami and futon, located in a quiet resident area. The room is very clean, simple and peaceful. As other guests said, this house is very close to a convenience store. And also near to onsen (Japanese hot spring). We would definitely recommend Natsuko's place to every friends.

  • The house is large and open with plenty of space and beds for a family, bathroom is large and easy to use, A/C works great, kitchen was good size and easy to move around in. The house had a covered car port, free parking, and was in a quite area. The house was just not inviting due to the amount of owner items, it felt like we where intruding.

    Robert2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Kiroko's place is really nice and comfy. Kiyoko's place was nice and comfy. The whole house was fully equipped with all the necessary. My family and I had a great time staying there. Only thing is that it's located at the suburban of Nagoya which make the travel time into town much longer and highway toll fee being really expensive. But Kiyoko had already informed us, hence it's kinda an informed decision. Other than the distance, it was a thumb up! Thanks Kiyoko for being a thoughtful and quick-to-response host!
