Be the first to stay in this beautiful wing of this former village church, tastefully decorated and equipped with everything you’d need to relax in this rural peaceful corner of Devon. Soak in your own private hot tub, or chill out on the raised decking area watching the sheep graze and the sun set, whilst listening to your favourite music on the outdoor speakers connected to Sonos. Play it as loud as you like, there's no neighbours for 1km in any direction!
Up to 4 guests can have the exclusive use of 5 rooms - accessed via your own personal door to the rear of the church. This area leads straight onto the decked walkway with access to the hot tub. The spacious Master Bedroom with a king size luxury bed and 42" LED TV and Sonos dock. The Snug - consisting of 2 versatile singles, that can be made up as a double or 2 singles, with a study area to the other end. The Ante Room - all rooms lead of this, and it's a perfect space to sit and read a book. The Kitchenette - all the things you'd need to prepare a basic meal, including a fridge freezer and washing machine. The Shower Room - A double power shower and generous sized bathroom. All rooms have a good wifi connection / Ethernet ports.
A stunning area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB!) with amazing views for miles around - you cannot see another house from this location, so make as much noise as you like! There is guest parking for 2 cars, and the local village pub is 1 mile stroll away. A convenience store is 2 miles away, and for larger supermarkets and restaurants there is the market towns of Tavistock or Callington just 5 miles away. We are slap bang between the 2, just 1 mile into Devon from the river Tamar.

    Emily2019-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Maravillosa estancia Muy relajado.

Covid -19 Due to the government advice against non-essential travel and advocating social distancing to stop the unnecessary spread of Covid 19 The Count House is now closed. I am contacting present bookings as the advice changes. Stay Safe! Claire The Count House was once a Mine office, now it is a light filled holiday cottage. Set on a wooded hillside with stunning views over the River Tamar. The private garden steeps you in nature with deer, swallows and brimstones all regular visitors.
  • Muy curativo, un espacio increíble y vistas. Hermoso entorno y casa de campo. Definitivamente volveremos. Gracias, Claire.

    Kamala2018-05-03T00:00:00Z

The cottage is situated in a quiet location in the market town of Tavistock, but it is walking distance to the town square. It's only two miles to Dartmoor National Park, which you can see from our garden. A Victorian miners' cottage, part of the Tamar Valley World Heritage Site, it is cosy and refurbished to a high standard. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and pets. One of our guests summed it up: 'The cottage is an absolute jewel'
The Cottage is spacious and has been renovated recently, the latest addition being a wood burning stove in the front room. There is sitting room, kitchen and dining room, two double bedrooms and another with bunkbeds. There is also a sofa bed available for two more. It can sleep eight people. We also have a travel cot for babies. There is a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs. There are two toilets, one upstairs and one downstairs, a bath and a separate walk in shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with a washing machine and a dishwasher. Pets are welcome. The garden is free for you to use and we are a short walk from the town, local park, swimming pool and arts centre, with cinema. There is free internet and a smart tv. Also available are board games, books, DVDs, piano and guitar.
Fitzford Cottages are unique. We are part of the Tamar Valley World Heritage site. The Victorian miners cottage was built in 1862 as ideal housing for the Duke of Bedford's mines. We are situated in the town but in a quiet location. It is peaceful and secluded whilst being walking distance from the attractions of the town. Tavistock is an award winning market town with independent shops, an indoor pannier market and a choice of superb restaurants, pubs and tearooms.

Set on a hillside of a 27 acre farm with stunning views from your window down the Tamar Valley. This 5th wheel trailer has a spacious separate living area, thanks to 2 opposing slide-outs, and it will sleep 5 comfortably, 6 if 2 are children. Please note we are a farm looking down the Tamar Valley, just outside of Bere Alston. Full address details provided on request.
The trailer is located within close proximity to a selection of farm animals including deer, sheep, geese, ducks, peacocks and chickens. There are beautiful views down the valley.

The Studio is a converted barn next to our house in Dartmoor National Park. It is a perfect holiday spot for a couple or young family seeking a quiet holiday exploring this beautiful part of West Devon.

The bathroom is downstairs with bath and shower and there is a utility room with washing machine and tumble drier.
The Studio is a cosy, converted barn next to our house within Dartmoor National Park. It is a perfect holiday spot for a couple or young family seeking a quiet holiday exploring this beautiful part of West Devon. Built in 2017 in a large garden with uninterrupted views, from both the cabin and decking, of the River Tamar. Ideal retreat for artists, writers, walkers and nature lovers. The garden is unsuitable for children as it is steep, well behaved dogs welcome provided they don't launch themselves into the river as the only access is by a ladder. There is strictly no fishing. Just enjoy a natural habitat, which is plentiful. You might see kingfishers, otters, cormorants, leaping fish, hope so!
The Ottery was originally built as an artist studio, but I decided the view was so beautiful I wanted to share it with other nature and peace lovers. It was completed in April 2017 and is situated at the end of my garden. It has wooden floors in the living areas and tile in the bathroom. It has decking on 2 sides with a table and chairs to enjoy nature. In the winter it is cosy but, it is a cabin, and does not have double glazing but gets warm quickly when the fire is lit, for which kiln dried wood is provided. Warmth can be maintained with an oil filled radiator, this to me is part of the romance of staying in a cabin in the winter. There is a condensation issue in the winter as it is warmer inside the building than out, but a handy tool and kitchen roll is provided so that the view is not obscured. The cabin has far reaching views up the river and is situated close to an ancient monument, Newbridge which is a 16th Century bridge. There are 4 fantastic walks available by walking out of the front door, no need to use the car! When the river is being lazy you can swim from the garden, but you need to ask me first please so I can judge if it is safe as the currents can be deceptive. It is close to Dartmoor and about 30 mins drive to the coast. It has no wifi or TV, but I have provided basic artist materials (please bring your own paper), board games, jigsaws and books and magazines. Mobile service is excellent for Vodafone and 02, but for other networks you might have to go on the roof to get a signal! If you need to contact someone, provided it is in the UK you are welcome to use my landline.
Gunnislake is a working village with 4 pubs, a post office, general stores, an excellent butchers and a hardware and gift shop. It is situated about 200 meters from the cabin, but up a very steep hill (good exercise) there is free parking for 2 hours in the village. Gunni has a train station and a regular bus service. The nearest town, Tavistock is 5 miles away and is a market town. Plymouth is the nearest city by car it takes about 30 mins and is also accessible by a scenic train journey or by bus. There are restaurants close by and food round here is excellent. There are no nightclubs! Villagers tend to be very friendly, and helpful.

No te decepcionará aquí.

There are many local walks and cycle rides such as the Tamar Trails centre, trains to Plymouth from the station at the end of the carriage drive and boat trips from Plymouth and Calstock during the Summer months. Further up stream on the Devon bank is Morwellham Quay with its fantastic open air museum, which has been awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO, the cultural arm of the UN, and is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape. Nearby Tavistock, is an ancient stannary and market town on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, and just across the border in Devon, has a wealth of fine pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and tourist attractions. The Tamar Orchard Barn is in one of Cornwall's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Bodmin Moor recently AWARDED rare DARK SKY status is close by to the west. This wild area reaches a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwall's highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwalls stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. What does this have to do with our local area? The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families. The National Lobster Hatchery at Padstow neighbours Rick Steins empire on the North Coast. The Bodmin and Wenford Railway, the first steam operated railway in Cornwall, takes in 13 miles of countryside. Also just outside Bodmin is the Camel Valley Vineyard who have been winning awards for their home grown wine for the past 20 years. The National Trust have a number of properties nearby with Cotehele House being just 3 miles away. - Lanhydrock House, Trerice, Antony (used for Disney's Alice in Wonderland), Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps. Slightly further afield is the Eden Project in St Austell. Bodmin Jail built in 1778, notorious for its public executions by hanging, was the first jail to be built housing inmates in individual cells. The Jail closed in 1927 and is now a museum open to the public, which during the First World War housed the Crown Jewels and the Doomsday Book.Dartmoor is closer to us and more popular even though it is in Devon.Dartmoor, to the east, is one of our National Parks and covers 368 square miles of Devon, from tors and moorland, to valleys with streams and waterfalls, Dartmoor is rich with Neolithic and early Bronze age hut circles and standing stones, there are dozens of walks from easy strolls to demanding hikes. The highest point is High Willhays at 2037ft above sea level with stunning views in all directions. Princetown in the centre has the renowned Dartmoor Brewery with the famous "Jale Ale" named as a reference to Dartmoor Prison. You can be on Dartmoor National park in just twenty minutes from the Tamar Orchard Barn. Our ‘local' pub the White Hart is five minutes away and has just been awarded the 2019 CAMRA Cornish Pub Of The Year, well worth a visit!

Wake up to the sound of birdsong and stunning views across the valley! We welcome you to stay in our beautiful Edwardian terraced house in our the aptly named "Sunshine Room", within the riverside village of Calstock, a World Heritage Site and within the Tamar Valley AONB. A perfect spot for peaceful relaxation and walking the many trails through the valley (less than 5 minutes from the back door). Only 40 minutes by car or train (on the scenic Tamar Valley Line!) from Plymouth city centre.
Our house has a peaceful atmosphere with plenty of gentle light and space. Old rustic features such as fireplaces and exposed beams combine with modern design features and objects that we have collected from our travels around South and South East Asia, to create a truly unique place to spend time. The house has a long sunny back garden with apple trees and a large willow tree that feels private despite the gardens either side. A wooden table and chair set are available for guests to use for alfresco dining in the warmer months (we will upload pictures of the garden soon!) Calstock is a quirky, lively village with extremely friendly locals (some real characters!). There is a relaxed atmosphere which attracts artists, musicians and many other creative souls. The village has a long and colourful history, it was once a flourishing mining, flower market and boatbuilding village. Mining for silver and copper, arsenic and manganese were historically important industries here. Calstock sits in a loop of the River Tamar, so much so that it has something of the character of an island. You drive into the village and turn around to go back out again - it's not on the way to anywhere. This makes it feel very special and it certainly has its own unique charm and old time character! It is a wonderful area to explore the wild ruins of the villages mining heritage, a peaceful place to be for nature lovers, bird watchers with wonderful walks directly from house.
You will not be short of stunning walks locally! There are numerous walks around the wooded valley particularly around the National Trust Tudor House, Cotehele House estate. Or you can acquaint yourself with the village by taking a circular walk around the riverside or stray off up into Harewood or through the woodlands to Danescombe Valley. The Tamar Valley Nature Trail sees you snaking along the River Tamar up to Chimney Rock with amazing views back down the river. A walk up Kit Hill, a 400 acre Country Park, the highest point in the Tamar Valley, is a must for the fine views and fascinating history. We have lots of ordinance survey maps of the area for guests to borrow and can recommend lots of other spots for local ramblings and ones further afield. More information... The house is a 3 minute walk to the centre of the village. Here you can find two cosy, dog-friendly pubs, which serve a good selection of food (and The Tamar Inn sometimes has live music!), The Boot Inn does a very yummy roast on a Sunday, Lishe, a idyllic cafe with delicious cakes and cream teas, an ice-cream parlour, an art gallery exhibiting art work, jewellery and ceramics by local artists in the tamar valley, a well equipped shop (with lots of fresh yummy fruit and veg, freshly cooked pasties and bread!), a small complementary therapy practice 'The Haven' offering massage, yoga, reflexology, homeopathy and shiatsu, and Calstock Arts, a community arts centre located in a beautifully converted Chapel on the banks of the River Tamar. Their carefully selected programme includes; folk, jazz, classical music, comedy, film, theatre, talks and exhibitions. Their current programme of events can be viewed at their website 'Calstock Arts'. There is plenty of opportunity for river trips, kayaking and general watery activities or you can try out tree surfing at the 'Tamar Trails Centre', a 15 min drive away. The centre is the main hub for exploring the 25km of trails for walkers, cyclists and horse riders that follow old mineral tramways and railways. We have plenty of pamphlets detailing all of these activities and with info on how to book. The pretty market town of Tavistock is but a 20 minute journey by car or bus and has a really interesting old indoor pannier market and a stunning historic high street with ample opportunities for shopping in individual boutique shops and delicatessens. From Tavistock you can access the Dartmoor National Park for some breathtaking moorland walks. If you have a hankering for some fresh sea air the nearest beaches are along the south coast, the closest being Seaton, Looe (which has a idyllic seaside town), the beautiful port and fishing village of Polperro. All about a 40-50 minute drive away. If you go a bit further and if you’re up for a bit of a hike then Lantic Bay will reward you with one of the most stunning locations in Cornwall without a doubt. The walk from Lantic Bay to Lansallos Bay is one of our favourites. You can also venture to the north cornish coastline. The beaches at Bude, Crackington Haven and Boscastle are all about an hours drive from the house. Crackington Haven is a small coastal village just West of Bude. Once a small harbour importing coal and limestone from Wales, which narrowly escaped industrial development in the 1800s, it is now a small unspoiled, almost secret, cove. Although is can get fairly busy in the summer, its a lot quieter than the beaches nearer to Bude. It is a great spot for body boarding and surfing with the right conditions!

My place is close to the Cornwall-Devon border not far from the beaches and Dartmoor. You’ll love my place because of the views, the open plan living space, the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, holiday makers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
What makes my place so good is the price. It comes in at less than half the price of other similar holiday cottages. There are no extra cleaning costs. All I ask is you leave the place as you would like to find it.
There is a restaurant and bar on site as well as a games room for guest use. A good pub is a 10 minute walk away. There is no private garden but directly outside are large green spaces, a play area and tennis courts. The Donkey Park with large indoor play areas (and lots to do outside) is a short walk away.

We have a standard single, a double-room and a King Size room for up to 5 guests. We are close Tavistock, Dartmoor, Plymouth and the North Cornwall coast. We cater for singles/couples, and business travellers. We can take and collect guests from inns and restaurants within a 5 mile radius of our home. We keep poultry, and guests may like to collect their own eggs for breakfast when available. Continental breakfast is included or a cooked breakfast available for additional cost.
Guests have a single bed with use of the guest bathroom adjacent to the bedroom. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, handbasin, bath and loo. Guests have sole use of the sitting room with TV and an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. The wood burners are lit in the autumn and winter months. A selection of bottled beers and wines are available for a suggested donation however we do ask that red wine is not taken upstairs but is consumed in the dining or sitting room areas. We are lucky to have several inns and restaurants nearby that serve good food and your hosts are happy to take and collect guests within a 5 mile radius for a small donation. We have a fairly large garden with places to sit and read, have a coffee or a glass of something. In the summer the lawn is usually set up for garden croquet which guests are welcome to play between themselves or with the hosts. We don’t provide evening meals but guests are welcome to collect a takeaway from town and eat in the dining room or if they wish there is a barbecue that can be lit if required. Continental breakfast is included and provided in the dining room with a toaster and coffee and tea making facilities. Cooked breakfast can be provided by prior arrangement for an additional fee.
We are within a hamlet set in a rural location. There are views from to the east over Dartmoor. Our neighbourhood is friendly and all of our neighbours are well versed with helping each other out when needed. Although being only 2.25 miles from Tavistock we would strongly advise that guests coming to Cherry Tree Cottage either have their own transport or make alternative arrangements before arrival as we are not on a bus route.

Our apartment is good for couples and solo travellers. Attached to our house, this is a small but very comfortable and modern space, with private entrance and patio garden. We are situated in a village within the Tamar Valley which is on the border between Devon and Cornwall. You have easy access to all areas of the Southwest, and particularly the parks of Dartmoor and Bodmin, the city of Plymouth and the market town of Tavistock. It is a great area to explore or just to relax.
Lower Metherell is a friendly little village with a 15th Century country pub less than 5 mins walk away from our home. Other pubs, a village shop and medieval church are nearby in Harrowbarrow and St Dominick.

Pilgrims Rest is a recently converted two bedroom apartment in an old 19th century chapel in the Cornish mining village of Gunnislake. Unusually for this area we have off road covered car parking available for guests. However a car is not absolutely necessary as Gunnislake has its own train station with regular trains to Plymouth. There is also an hourly bus service to Tavistock the local market town .

    Karen2019-04-22T00:00:00Z

Further up stream is Morwellham Quay with its fantastic open air museum, Morwellham Quay has been awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO, the cultural arm of the UN, and is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape. Tavistock is just over the border in Devon, an ancient stannary and market town on the edge of Dartmoor, it has a wealth of fine pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and tourist attractions including ruins of a Benedictine Abbey which was founded in 961.Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30 is home to one of Cornwall's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Authentic character and quaint quirkiness in a charming village makes Miners Cottage a special retreat. The cottage went through an entire refurb recently and now offers a lovely log fire, lots of wall heating, crisp white cotton linen and new high quality mattresses promising to guarantee a cozy, comfortable and relaxing stay.
Typical cozy tin mine cottage, completely refurbished recently. A special retreat for weekenders and walkers. Relax in front of the log burner or take a stroll down to the lively Tamar Inn for a sumptuous meal or drink. Art galleries, live music and a cake & coffee shop bring the sleeping village to life. Calstock is also a great base from which you can explore Cornwall.
The village (and parish) of Calstock is situated on the River Tamar several miles east of Callington and 12 miles upstream from Plymouth in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a pretty village with cottages lining the narrow streets as they climb up the steep bank of the Tamar. Calstock is dominated by the magnificent railway viaduct which was built in 1907 and is one of the last great railway viaducts. Standing at 120 feet tall with 12 sixty foot arches, the viaduct carries the Tamar Valley railway which runs from Plymouth to Gunnislake. About a mile down the Tamar is Cothele, a mediaeval/Tudor house and estate now owned by the National Trust. Built between 1485 and 1627 it is a fine example, and considered one of the least-altered houses of the period in the United Kingdom. Along with the restored working watermill, the riverside gardens and quay are well worth a visit. Whilst now-a-days Calstock is a fairly sleepy backwater it has a long history as an industrial post. In Roman times it was already settled and possibly a tin trading post and from Saxon times it was definitely a port. Calstock's heyday was in the 19th century when it was a booming mining town with a population of around 7,000. Copper, tin, tungsten and even silver were mined here and there was a granite quarry neaby. These were then all shipped downstream from the town's quay. However, with the decline in the mining industry Calstock became a sleepy riverside village with the remains of the engine houses as a reminder to its past fortunes. Although the Tamar is still navigable by small boats up to Calstock, the railway replaced it as the primary source of transport.
