  • Had a brilliant stay at Brewers Den for the weekend of our friend's wedding at nearby Swinton Park. Couldn't have asked for a better location and Stephanie was an exceptional host, the hot cross buns and biscuits were a welcome treat! The flat is small but perfectly formed, and ideal for a short getaway. We would love to return. Thanks Stephanie!

  • Lovely spot to stay, really nice flat and Masham is a perfect base to explore the Dales. A lot of thought has gone into the set-up and facilities, and I found that everything I suddenly needed to use but had forgotten could be found somewhere in the flat! Steph was incredibly helpful and really quick to respond to queries which was very much appreciated. Definitely hope to return soon.

  • Lovely location and cottage. Stephanie was very helpful, a great place to stay.

  • Brewer's Den is a lovely apartment in an equally lovely small town. It was very cosy and had everything we needed for a two night stay. Stephanie was always at the end of the phone and responded very promptly to a query. The welcome pack she provides is thoughtful and most welcome. We would certainly recommend her apartment to friends. We would certainly stay there again. Thanks.

  • Unfortunately we didn't have the pleasure of meeting Stephanie. The small home is situated in a block of units that we found too confined with no views. But the home is quite comfortable with all the necessary amenities. Ideal place in the lovely village of Masham for a base to explore the Yorkshire Dales. The only down fall was every time we used anything for cooking the utensils needed to be washed becore we could use them. However we enjoyed our stay here, and would stay again if we are in the area.

  • Had a lovely stay at the Brewer's Den (Nov 2014) Special thanks to the host Stephanie who really made us feel welcome. Great & timely responses to all queries; we asked if there was a DVD player, there wasn't, but Stephanie immediately offered to put one in for us. Very thoughtful! We were greeted by fresh fruit, bread, milk, eggs etc which was a lovely suprise. The apartment is decorated well, extremely clean and very homely with all the necessities to cook & clean as you need to! We visit North Yorkshire often but Masham is by far my new favourite place. Gorgeous scenery and a quaint market place. Lovely food at the Kings Head (2 minute walk). Excellent & affordable place to stay if you're looking for a cosy winter weekend with beautiful walks. Masham is full of history & natural beauty and should not be missed! Had a brilliant time & will be recommending to friends & family! Thanks again Stephanie xx

  • Brewers Den is a great place to stay. Will be back again

    MICHAEL2015-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect Airbnb experience! The Brewers Den is very homely and cosy, with an extremely comfy bed. We only stayed for one night, but both wished we'd had longer in this lovely place. It's situated in one of the oldest parts of the picturesque Masham and has a great butchers and Pub around the corner. I didn't meet Stephanie, but she was very quick to respond to messages and flexible with departure time (much appreciated). The place was immaculate and she even left us a bottle of wine & biscuits, much appreciated after a long drive. Thank you, we can't wait to come back!

Market view looks over the ancient and attractive market square with its old buildings and areas of interest. It is central for hotels, shops and scenic walks. You’ll love Market view because it is spacious, well equipped and has a lovely atmosphere. There are a combination of small shops, offering art, clothing, and souvenirs. There is a great selection of hotels, pubs and tearooms. There is an excellent range of local food shops. Many scenic walks are on the doorstep or a short drive.
It is a large studio apartment on the ground floor. The king size bed is separated from the lounge. There is a separate kitchen and a separate bathroom. The bath has a shower over it.
It is a lovely and friendly place to live. Everything required to relax, be occupied or to eat well is available in this market town. It is very old and the buildings are beautiful.
  • Masham is good base for Yorkshire.

Suite within a Victorian Mansion in its own private grounds built as a family home for the Theakston family - the local brewers and has many original features. Other suites are available within the property for larger parties.
  • A really beautiful property, we stayed in the big, spacious and high ceiling suite 7 and felt very comfortable. It was clean and kept in good condition, plus the location was perfect because it was walking distance to the Market Square. Anyone looking for a quiet weekend away, as well as a visit to the Theakston and Black Sheep brewery should definitely consider this a prime location.

  • Lovey flat in old country mansion, very clean, wifi, tele and lots of equipment. Really enjoyed our stay.

  • A perfect stop when exploring the Yorkshire Dales and a lovely home from home.

    Keith2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Superb location and setting overlooking fields but still only 5 min walk to excellent amenities , cafes and pubs of a really pleasant, compact market town. We really liked the food at the Bordar House Cafe (excellent breakfast and cream tea) and The White Bear (gorgeous bread made with beer!). Lot's of local walks and places to visit nearby, easy to find, the setting and grounds are very picturesque and there is ample parking. Whilst some may find the decor old fashioned it is in keeping with the character of the property and adds to the charm. It's great (and increasingly rare) to be able to stay in such a historic property for such a reasonable cost. The suite was a good size too with all the facilities we required. Superb value for money

  • Great weekend getaway base. Enjoyed the accomodation and location. Thank you very much.

    Rene 2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay - especially if you like beer! Only drawback bed up steep stairs and a little uncomfortable for a tall man

  • Quiet (Victorian?) mansion converted into flats surrounded by a large garden. Nice and vintage Laura Ashley '80ies decor. The flat itself is clean and airy.

Spacious Georgian house minutes from Masham's market square. Sleeping 9 over three floors, the house has bags of period character and charm - from Georgian window seats through to roaring log fires. Each room has been tastefully redecorated this year
Post Office house is a beautiful base from which to explore Masham and the Dales. The house is Georgian in origin and was rescued from disrepair by the current owners, each room has been remodelled and restored. The house is grade two listed and has the benefit of being in Masham with all of its amenities and yet is located just outside the square- with direct access to the river, cricket pitch and children's park across the road. The house lends itself to large parties and families. Guests will have access to the Kitchen, utility room, Lounge with fireplace , logs and coal, all bedrooms and the two bathrooms. Guests will also have off road parking. Guests will have basic food items provided including fresh eggs from our free range hens! We will get you settled in- show you how to work technical things i.e television etc. and make sure you have everything you need - once that is done - the house is yours to enjoy! We are always available by phone should you need something. I love Masham- there is so much to do! Firstly - as a place from which to see the Dales - its second to none . You have a wide range of pubs, restaurants and cafes all of which are very child friendly. There is a wide selection of shops and usually different exhibits happening in the town hall. Swinton Park country house, spa and restaurant is a must! The spa is fabulous and afternoon tea in the drawing room is a great experience. The restaurant has won many awards and they do a great priced Sunday lunch. Swinton park is a 2 minute drive or a pleasant 10 minute walk from the house. Horse riding and falconry experiences are also available. Artison is a two minute drive or short walk from the house - they offer short day courses in crafts such as pottery, jewellery making, blacksmithing - I've done a few and its great fun. Aside from the charms of being in Masham - you are in the heart of the Yorkshire dales - there are so many wonderful things to see from Bolton castle, Jervaux Abbey, Aysgarth Falls... though to a ride on the North York moors Steam railway.... you might struggle to fit it all in! We are really happy to recommend places and have written a guidebook that you will find alongside your guest information. There are lots of attractions within walking distance of the house- there is also a regular bus service that leaves from the market square.
  • The house absolutely lovely! Nice and airy, clean and welcoming. The arrival process was really easy - it was great having a fire laid for us and the Christmas tree in the living room. I've never slept in a comfier bed! It's conveniently located on the main street in Masham. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the large dining table was a great communal space. I'd definitely recommend staying here, we had a great New Year.

  • Everything went very smoothly, and we had a great visit to Masham. Kirsten and Peter were really helpful and made sure we had everything we needed, including a cafetiere and ground coffee for the caffeine nuts! The house was perfect, and just as lovely as the pictures. thank you for being such great hosts.

  • A wonderful home in a picturesque village with so much on your doorstep. We stumbled upon (and out of!) the Black Sheep brewery within a couple minutes of walking out the house, vintage sweet shops, great butchers (beef fillet was top drawer). We were staying with our extended family for a wedding so Kirsten's property was the perfect value option where we could relax and feel at home. Thanks so much.

    William2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • A home away from home! The perfect house for a family getaway to Masham. We had a lovely weekend in Kirsten's comfortable and cosy home - it had everything we needed and more (we all loved the games and the books, especially the nook in the library room). Thanks so much!

  • Thank you for making your beautiful home available for stays, it is such a wonderful property. We had everything we needed for a weekend stay and didn't actually leave the house one day, we wanted to make the most of such an amazing home. All the bedrooms were beautifully decorated, beds super comfy! All of the guests really enjoyed the weekend and have all said how they would love to return. Thank you so much for the cake and fizz too!A lovely touch for our arrival. We can't wait to book again!

Grade 2 Listed House in Masham

Enjoy exploring the Yorkshire Dales, wandering around Masham, relaxing in the garden by the river. Our cottage has exposed stone, lots of old beams and feels comfortable and spacious. It's perfect whether you want to retreat from the world or explore. We provide plenty of information & ideas to help you make the most of your time here.
The cottage is part of a building that dates back to 1704, and which was a former corn mill. The cottage is quirky and has a sense of history with flagged stone floors (carpet in the lounge), and beautiful wooden beams in the bedrooms. The cottage sleeps 4 people very comfortably, 6 if you want to add two children and use a sofa bed in the lounge - but it will be "cosy". The cottage is simply but comfortably furnished. Outside, the garden overlooks the river and you can still see the old mill race. It's a very peaceful, hidden spot and yet only two minutes' walk into Masham market square with its independent shops, cafes and pubs. Inside the cottage there are plenty of books, games to play and jigsaws. This is an ideal place to come to relax, recuperate and feel re-inspired. You can choose to be quiet and contemplative, indulge your artistic streak, go out for bracing walks in awe-inspiring countryside or while away the hours in one of Masham’s excellent pubs.
Masham is a brilliant place to stay in the Yorkshire Dales. It's known for its two small breweries, Black Sheep and Theakstons and also has several great pubs. We also have a greengrocers, two butchers, Co-op, three galleries, two delis, several cafes and an excellent restaurant. There are several round walks (usually ending at a pub) around Masham, and a short drive away is Druids Temple, a folly close to an excellent and quirky cafe at Bivouac. Masham is in Lower Wensleydale so it's an excellent base from which to enjoy visiting the Yorkshire Dales.
  • Susan was a fantastic host providing us with detailed local knowledge on places to go, restaurants, local stores and more. She answered our queries quickly and when we arrived provided maps and more details during our stay. She has a fabulous knowledge of the history of the area. The local town is beautiful and worth exploring - very safe and friendly. We also drove to a local agricultural show in the Dales which was a fun, unique experience. This is a great place for exploring both the Dales and Moors as well as many historical sites. We had 5 nights and could easily have spent 2 weeks!!! The cottage is spacious and comfy. Lovely outside area near the cottage and down by the river for relaxing!! A well equipped kitchen so we ate in several times!! As Susan had advised wifi is a bit patchy but we had no problems with a SIM card we bought for our iPad. Would highly recommend a stay here!! The hosts have thought of everything!! Even coffee, tea and wine!!!

  • Thanks to the help of Susan and her family, my family and I had an extremely pleasant and relaxing stay in Masham. The property exceeded our expectations and was a lovely comfortable and surprisingly accomodating place to call home. In particular Susan and her family helped during our stay by borrowing me a waterproof jacket when it was pouring outside. Her two well behaved spaniels were lovely too, very gentle. I would love to return in future and would recommend to friends. Your directions were particularly helpful. Overall, many thanks, a great time was had by all and it was much appreciated!

    Klaus2017-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • A truly lovely cottage in a beautiful setting! My two teenage daughters and I had a great time exploring the dales with so many places to visit in the area. An area of outstanding natural beauty... we will certainly be back! The cottage itself is even more spacious than the pictures show, and the gardens are a delight. Susan provided some welcoming home essentials including eggs and milk, and was very helpful with providing local knowledge. I have already recommended to friends :o) Thank you!

  • We had a fantastic weekend in the Yorkshire Dales and Susan's accommodation in Masham was perfect for us. The location is wonderful. Very peaceful. Having the river so close was great for the children. The house is comfortable and clean with loads of character. I would definitely stay here again. Having Susan next door is great if you want help with anything and she is very friendly. The dogs are wonderful company too.

  • We had a lovely week in this old cottage. There are many nice simple touches to the decor that made it a special place to stay. The garden is wonderful. We had great weather during our week away, and we would have spent more time relaxing in the garden had we not been heading out each day for trips to Masham and beyond. The cottage had all the basics we needed for the week, though we would have made use of a microwave had there been one for warming up baby food. A warning for tall people: some of the doorways are a little low! Susan was a great host, very friendly and full of useful suggestions about the local area.

  • Great place to stay. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to explore the local area!

  • Had a lovely 2 night stay at this cottage. Very comfortable, modern, clean and well-equipped. The kitchen and bathroom are nice and new and the shower is fab! Suited our family of 4 perfectly (2 adults, 4 year old and 8 month old) Close to nice restaurants and cafes, The White Bear being a particular favourite. The staff and all locals were very friendly which made us feel really welcome. A great base to visit Light water Valley which is only about 5 miles away and a fun day out! Andrew was very accommodating and flexible throughout our stay and we look forward to returning in the near future! Thoroughly recommend!

  • An absolutely fantastic little cottage in a wonderful location. Very comfortable and clean with good facilities (the shower particularly was wonderful). An ideal location for exploring the wider area with good walks and some wonderful places to eat and drink. Andrew and Julia were excellent hosts and were really helpful and although we had no issues I have no doubt they would have solved any issues that might have come up. Will definitely be going back for a stay another time. Would highly recommend for anybody.

  • My wife and I had a really nice stay here. A friend was getting married at Swinton Park and this was a really handy location. 2 minutes walk from a coop and a nice pub as well as having the Black Sheep brewery just over the road. The cottage is finished to a really high standard and the kitchen is very well equipped. Highly recommend.

The Snug is a stone cottage full of character with its wobbly walls, beamed ceiling and wooden floors. Located in the centre of Masham a traditional market town in North Yorkshire. Several guests return to The Snug each season and enjoy The Snug's homely feel. We have an Excellent Trip Advisor Rating. Minimum stay is 3 nights.
On the ground floor guests enjoy snuggling down on the leather sofas in front of the log burner. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and seating for four. Upstairs is the main bedroom with its comfy super king size bed (twin beds), cosy bunk room and bathroom with shower fitted. All bedding and towels are provided. Utilities and logs are included in the rental. Home baked treat waiting your arrival.
Masham - pronounce 'Mas' 'Ham' is popular all year round and attracts guests from all around the world. Often first visiting to find the home of the Black Sheep or Theakston Breweries but leaving feeling this is the perfect second home! Masham is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, shoppers and for eating out. I particularly enjoy a visit to Hackfall Woods, whatever the season its a great place to walk around. Great local people, always welcoming and on hand to make sure you have a great stay in Masham.

A former fever hospital, which has also been a rope mill (remains of original wheel are still in place), and a dairy. It's a great place for a gathering with friends or family, close to Masham but with lots of outdoor space. Strictly no loud parties - we have one near neighbour who we don't wish to be disturbed by our AirBnb activity!
The house is spacious and well equipped. It has been a major renovation project and has retained its quirks and character as well as gaining some warmth and comfort! We're not 100% there yet, and are delighted to be using Airbnb funds to keep going with improvements, so thank you for helping us get there! Guests so far have been very complimentary but please don't expect perfection!! It's an interesting and relaxing space to stay in, with the countryside on your doorstep, and Masham a short walk across fields (public footpath - 10/15 minute walk) or an even shorter drive (2/3 mins!) Guests enjoy the large kitchen, with old range cooker (sadly not working yet, but adds to the ambience). We're big cooking fans, so the kitchen is well equipped with most mod cons (big cooker, big fridge and freezer, wine fridge, coffee machine(s), KitchenAid mixer, bread maker, etc etc - let us know if you've got a specific cooking requirement in mind) There are five bedrooms, with an option of a small separate 'studio' which can sometimes be made available if one more bedroom required. The five bedrooms are: 1. Big room, king sized bed, en suite bathroom with bath and shower (can add single z bed here if needed) 2. Double room. With ensuite shower room. Room for travel cot if required, but not for additional single. 3. 'Harry Potter' room (see pics). A bedroom which can be a double or twin, or double plus single to sleep up to three, with ensuite bathroom (bath with shower over) (Note picture of bed not up to date in this room) 4. Double, with pallet-wood feature wall. Room for further single if required, with ensuite bathroom (bath with shower over) 5. Double futon with a single above. Morroccan/Bohemian style decor. This room is not ensuite. Again, room for further z bed in here if required. The Harry Potter and space themed rooms have full murals done by talented local artist Rick Duffield. The house is set in a garden of 1/3 of an acre. The pictures show the front, with seating near a brick built barbecue. The back of the house is a further garden area. It is overlooked from the big bifold doors in the kitchen and lounge so you can cook and keep a check on the kids... Note: We can now hire in a hot tub at a cost of £225 for the weekend. Do let me know if you'd like us to organise this for you. Be aware though, that we do ask for outdoor loudness after 10pm to be kept to an absolute minimum to avoid disturbing the neighbour, so perhaps weigh this up before booking!
Within an easy walk of Masham centre (15-20 mins across fields!), and with a nature reserve literally on our doorstep, visitors have the best of both worlds. We are right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and within easy reach of the Yorkshire Moors. Pubs, restaurants, and two breweries (Theakston and Black Sheep) are available in Masham itself. Don’t miss these local independent shops, cafes and businesses… Corks and Cases has the most amazing selection of wine, and will give you a 10% discount if you let them know you are staying here… (It ends up just as cheap but so much better quality than the supermarkets!) The Gallery in Masham is owned and run by our good friend Josie Bezant, and among all manner of lovely take-home gifts, she sells some of our absolute favourite things you’ll see around our house, including the fab porcelain tea lights and vases by Charlotte Morrison., the little wren and dog ornaments. Also the books by her husband Ian Scott Massie, as well as original art and prints. The screen print in our lounge was ‘made’ by our son Jack when he was about 11, with (more than a little!) help from Scott! Josie and Scott also run some of the causes at Artison…. Artison – they run all manner of fantastic artistic and creative courses, where you can learn a new skill from local artists. These would need to be booked in advance – check the website… Veg and butchers shops are all great – much better than the supermarkets! The veg stall on the market is also extremely good. ‘Johnny Baghdad’s Café on the Square’ is our favourite place for a hot drink or really lovely and good value lunches. Bivouac at Druid’s Temple is a really quirky café, and a good place for a short or longer, and very picturesque walk with a folly to explore Walks and attractions on the doorstep as well as day trips further afield - easy reach of Harrogate (40 mins), York (60 mins), Northallerton (25 mins), Leyburn (25 mins), Thirsk (25 mins).

  • Carolyn and Steve made us feel very welcome. The house was perfectly clean and tidy when we arrived, with lots of instructions and little extras like soap in the bedrooms. They both replied to emails quickly and answered all my qiestions. The house is beautiful and roomy. The location is great for exploring Masham and the wider area. I would recommend staying here to anyone.

  • Beautiful family home, ideal for a family getaway with fantastic walks from the doorstep and lots to keep the kids entertained. Carolyn and Steve were excellent hosts and the communication was superb. Definitely recommend for a visit.

  • Beautiful house, amazing location and a thoughtful, helpful host. All we could ask for. As a party of nine we had plenty of space and the kids particularly loved running round in the garden with the super friendly chickens. The wetlands on the doorstep are perfect for paddling/pond dipping and the huge kitchen was ideal for all meeting up after a long day enjoying the surrounding countryside. Overall, very hard to fault.

  • We had an amazing stay at Carolyn and Steve's place. The house was like a Grand Designs project with perfect social spaces to enjoy my 40th birthday with friends from all around the country. There were so many lovely little touches, a birthday banner, welcome message on the blackboard and a box full of tips on places to visit. Love all of the kitchen gadgets! There is plenty of company in the hilarious chickens strutting around the garden and visiting squirrels and pheasants. Elvis the cat kept popping in to check on us, between hunts. I've stayed in lots of wonderful airb&b houses, but never felt so at home as in this one.

    Gabrielle2015-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • had a great stay at the property and Carolyn was great at explaining everything and pointing out some local highlights. the house is well equipped and ideal for kids. they loved the toys and room decor and playing around outside. lots to do both at the house and nearby. it was ideal for our 2 families.

  • 24kt gold stay! I will say that again: 24kt gold stay! Where do I start with this review? How about this, "Look at the five-star rating I gave...and I'm a tough reviewer." Carolyn and Steve were extraordinarily nice and communicative. The house was immaculate. The bathrooms were clean, beds in excellent condition, and the home was spacious. We stayed there with two other families and absolutely loved the opportunity to dine around a massive table and then follow it up with games and late-nite banter. The kids enjoyed the large television in the next room and the piano was a great touch (It is NOT a toy, it is a grand piano, my family plays and enjoyed the opportunity to relax with the instrument. Please respect it.) There are chickens outside and we had fresh eggs in the morning...that was a first for me. The location was easy to find, the town of Masham is nearby and convenient, and the home is a perfect launch location to visit nearby castles, abbeys, and churches. The house locks up tight in the event you worry about security, but you should not worry. Masham is a lovely town, the house is in a nice woodsy area, and safety was never a concern or care. When a place is this good, this clean, this perfect for your trip, it is easy to overlook the fact that such excellence is intentional (not accidental). Carolyn and Steve unquestionably put a lot of effort into opening their home and keeping it at a five-star level. I thank them profusely. You now ask, "Was there anything bad?" Well, I will say that none of us could figure out how to work the very fancy coffee maker (regrettably, Carolyn kindly provided a high-end coffee maker to a bunch of "mechanical cave dwellers" and we could not figure out how to use it). But, no surprise, Carolyn also provided a French coffee press and we were able to consume caffeine in sufficient quantities so as to prevent a disruption to our otherwise outstanding visit. I am not sure that "providing a top of the line appliance" constitutes a "bad" thing by the owner (since it reflects poorly on the ancient and confused visitor...moi), but perhaps it further solidifies just how great this place was. Complete strangers were provided clean, excellent, up-to-date appliances, furniture, and facilities. Finally, when you look at the photos on-line, that is exactly what the place looks like. There is no "bait and switch," the place is large, clean, modern, and cozy. Here's the bottomline: stay here. Stay here! Stay here!

  • An excellent property to stay with a group of family and friends. Great for kids, comfortable for adults and walking distance to the beautiful wetlands, river and masham! Plenty of space to run about and play but don't forget the insect repellent for later in the day! Would highly recommend to anyone and the owners we very helpful before and after.

A recently refurbished (feb 16), cosy holiday cottage in the heart of Masham village.
Cosy cottage with one large living/dining room and kitchen downstairs. Bathroom, large double bedroom and smaller second bed room with 2 single beds. Adjacent garage, good for small car, storing bikes/walking gear etc.
  • Location is fantastic! Masham is a quaint little town and the house was as good! Very comfortable and homely with everything needed. Emma was a great host answering all questions that we had! Highly recommend!

  • Kaye's cottage was absolutely lovely! Very clean, big, cosy and right in the centre of Masham. Great instructions inside the house regarding heating etc. Had everything you could pretty much need. No wifi, which is great if you want to get away from it all. We had just moved to the area and kind of needed it to set up property viewings but the community centre just down the road had a good connection. Everybody in the village is really friendly! We enjoyed ourselves very much. Thanks!

A pretty and cosy holiday cottage one mile from Masham, in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales with the river at the bottom of the garden. Perfect for anyone wanting either an active or relaxing holiday with lots to do in the area. Tranquil and private.
We provide a starter hamper of bread, milk, local eggs and a bottle of wine. We also provide wood for the wood burner. The Calf Pens is no smoking and no pets please.
Your neighbours bleat, moo, neigh and hiss (not snakes - geese!) and quack.
  • Masham is a lovely place and this accommodation is a brilliant base from which to explore it. Very roomy for 4 people with 2 good size doubles. Immaculately tidy throughout with well stocked kitchen too. Bit of a trek up gravel road to get there but peace and quiet are the reward! Would recommend. Thanks

    James2016-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Calf Pen Inn is a beautifully situated cottage, superbly done up and offers everything for a romantic stay. The inviting fire and underfloor heating is a welcomed feature after a walk in the nearby Dales. The Ure river runs along the property. It's incredibly quiet with the occasional quack of the geese or the neigh from the horses and being lamb season, we were greeted by a few lambs bounding around. Having no mobile phone reception meant that we were completely able to switch off and enjoy the scenery and the beauty of Prue's farm. Prue was very thorough in explaining all the features of the cottage and very knowledgeable about the local area and support of local produce. a very good find indeed, and I will ever recommending highly.

  • Calf Pen cottage is a very well-equipped, spacious cottage near the lovely town of Masham. The cottage has all you need and, best of all, a glorious stretch of river a short walk behind the house to sit and ponder by. Very convenient for touring.

Our Shepherds hut is the perfect place for a relaxing stay. Set in it's own private garden area it is ideal for those wanting to get away from it all and enjoy the Yorkshire surroundings.
Facilities include, small fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave in the kitchen area. The en suite bathroom has a shower and flushing toilet. It has mains electricity and a cast-iron electric log burning effect stove to provide instant no-mess heat. There is outside seating and a BBQ with charcoal provided.
  • A lovely little escape for some peace & quiet. Lovely views. Everything was beautifully furnished and clean. I took my two children 9 &11 and they loved sleeping in the shepherds hut it was a real novelty for them and they especially loved the two pigs which they named Roxy & Beauty and of course Lynda's labradoodle who was always up for playing ball!

  • Lovely unique place to stay in a beautiful setting. We hope we will get chance to go back :-).

  • The best air B&B I've stayed in! A real gem and a great place for a get away. Lynda was extremely helpful and provided excellent directions/instructions. The little hut is super clean and cosy. Lynda has made it extremely comfortable and relaxing. The highlights of my trip were the dog & pigs and walking to the black sheep brewery through beautiful woodland. I loved my stay and will definitely stay again.

    Sam2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • This 'hut' really is lovely. We stayed at the beginning of October with a gale warning one night, but it was warm and cosy with plenty of extra blankets. It is well furnished, beautifully kept and manages to have everything you need in a small space. Lynda was welcoming and friendly (they live next door) but not intrusive. Ideal for us breaking a journey from London to Durham, though I would have happily stayed longer.

    Tara2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, would come again! It was quiet and dark at night which I really like. Waking up with this tranquil view is priceless. Lynda thought of everything, even the sheets did smell nice. To bad we were already leaving after one night.

  • The Eagle's nest was an beautifully decorated, well-equipped, clean and luxurious place to stay, with fantastic views and a wonderful fireplace. As an added bonus, Jane has a couple of fluffy bathrobes for her guests as well as a jacuzzi bath. Win! The cottage is walking distance from a cool coffee shop up the hill and there are loads of walks surrounding the area, with scenic views. Jane has been the lovelies host as well - she made us feel truly welcome.

  • Jane is fantastic, helpful, discrete but always on hand when necessary and will sort anything quickly and efficiently. House is lovely- peace and quiet, wildlife and close enough to great pubs and walks.

  • A super stay in a lovely cottage. It was a great place to see in the new year. A relaxing weekend in the beautiful countryside.

  • Jane was a wonderful host excellent at communicating and even organised our taxis for the wedding weekend. Truly wonderful spot in the middle of beautiful countryside. Views from the cottage were superb and wildlife everywhere around which we loved. The cottage had everything we needed for the weekend. Upside down cottage which was perfect to take advantage of the views over the valley. Thanks again Jane and hopefully be back soon.

    Max2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Eagle's Nest is simply perfect for a quiet weekend away — or longer if you're lucky. The location is remote and the quiet — broken only by bird song — is rare and restorative. The amenities are wonderful: clean, efficient and of excellent quality. It's a really comfortable bed that you won't want to leave, but you should as there's so much to do. Masham's Black Sheep Brewery is a terrific place to visit, and its bistro serves excellent food and even better beer. The surrounding countryside is majestic and sublime with big moors and, when we were there at least, big beautiful cloudless skies. Jane's welcome was genuinely warm and the hamper and other subtle touches were very well done. Highly recommended.

    John2017-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful secluded home in stunning surroundings, ideal for an escape from the world with so much to explore on your doorstep. Jane was an amazing host and very helpful.

  • Jane was fantastic, very welcoming and she really made us feel at ease. The Eagles Nest was outstanding and we both loved the place and it's rural surroundings. We visited Aysgarth Falls and Hackfell woods which were both great for a summer stroll. I would highly recommend the Eagles Nest, especially if you are looking for rest and relaxation in an idyllic country setting.

Tree Lodges can sleep up to seven people (one king size double, one double & three singles). They come with a range and gas hob for cooking, hot water heated by wood burner, bed linen provided, but please note there is no electricity so bring torches!
Staying at Swinton Bivouac is an experience you'll cherish forever. The Tree Lodges are nestled at the edge of the woods without electricity, so you can get back to grassroots simplicity. From your balcony you can watch the sun set and marvel at the dark Yorkshire starry skies, and inside snuggle by the fire. With 20,000 acres surrounding the site, there's plenty of space to explore. We welcome couples, solo adventurers, families and groups, not forgetting your four legged friends!
  • The host canceled this reservation 3 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

  • My friends and I decided to stay overnight here on our way up North. We loved the look of the photos, and that a lot of us could stay together. The cabin is beautifully decorated, and has a bathroom with a hot shower. There's also a little kitchenette with lots of cutlery, so you won't be short of anything you need. The cabin is heated with a log burning stone but has no electricity or normal lights. There was little twinkle light and the small battery candles, these are great for making the cabin pretty but not for providing any useful light. We saw this in advance and brought our own lights, and that was enough to have a really lovely evening. The beds are comfortable, however when there is a lot of people in the cabin, there isn't a lot of floor space. You can ram your bags into little nooks and crannies in the cabin, but make sure to do it before dark. There's a cafe on site, and the gentleman who works in the cafe is the nicest lad. The cherry on top is the incredible druid temple right next to the cabins. I knew the temple was there from the pictures on the site, however pictures do not do this temple justice. It's beautiful, a bit creepy, and one of the most stunning places I think I've ever visited in the UK. To be able to sit in the temple in the quiet, with the moss and the fog, has to be one of my favourite memories. I'm definitely planning on revisiting this estate (and phoning ahead to book one of their wood fire hot tubs!) It was a beautiful location and a great deal (especially considering you can squeeze 7 people into a cabin).

  • I really enjoyed my stay in Masham. It was quiet and peaceful, and the suite was perfect - it had everything you would need for a relaxing getaway. The check in and arrival instructions were clear, and I was given all the autonomy I needed. Also, worth reading the local guide - I did on my penultimate day and found some delights!

  • A perfect place to stay. Lindsey and Andy made my girlfriend and I feel most welcome. The room is beautiful and clean and the bed comfortable. It's true what others have said; the photos really do not do it justice. The toiletries provided are quality, and the shower is nice and powerful. The cottage is perfectly located for visiting Masham and is a short (and scenic!) drive from Brimham Rocks. Breakfast was fantastic. A great selection of fruits, yoghurts and cereals, followed by nice coffee and whatever Lindsey cooked at our request. Great scrambled eggs! We will recommend Low Foulgate to anybody visiting the area and will definitely stay next time we're here. Thank you!

  • What a beautiful place!! The pictures don't do it justice as the house in which the B&B rooms are is idyllic, beautiful countryside all around, beautiful house inside and really comfortable and large room. Lindsey and Andy were great hosts who we had chats with when we saw them and who let us treat their home as our own. The room was very large and light, clean and comfortable with lots of lovely little extra personal touches, like dressing gowns and toiletries. The bathroom was fantastic and really modern and we also had use of the living room. Lindsey made us whatever breakfast we wanted, which was lovely. We will definitely be returning here on our future trips to Ripon! Thank you so much guys!

  • What a lovely place to stay, this is a private house set in the most wonderful garden right by the river side. If you're looking for a stunningly beautiful and relaxing place to stay, look no further. Allanah was a welcoming host and the room was exactly as described and shown in the photos for this listing. Note: there is an apartment listing and this one, a private en-suite room only. Fabulously beautiful house, filled with traditional antique furniture in the most picturesque garden riverside setting - you have to see it to believe it. Lovely breakfast too. The village is pretty and peaceful, with 2 nice pubs that do some yummy food, all easy walking distance. Lovely beer gardens for sunny days, and even an icecream parlour in one! Gorgeous room, lovely shower, fluffy towels and bathrobes, nicely furnished and super clean. Bear in mind if you have any mobility issues, that the room is up a couple of short flights of stairs. Would recommend, for a relaxing, peaceful and restful weekend break, with easy access to Dales and Moors for endless outdoor walks and drives.

  • Our stay at Squirrel Bank House was truly wonderful and something our family will be talking and reminiscing about for years to come. The location is truly beautiful and even more secluded than it first appears on the maps - despite excellent communication and extensive directions from Anthony himself, getting our family of fourteen there was easier said than done! But boy was it worth it... The house itself was simply stunning and had everything we could have needed. We spent most of day outside in the sunshine and most of our evening round the huge and homely kitchen table, warmed nicely by the fire. A wonderful place all round, and a truly perfect place for family and friends alike to spend quality time together.

The cottage didn't disappoint, stunning cottage and great testament to the hard work Robert and his late wife have put in. Would stay again.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. My friends and I had a great BBQ on Friday night and enjoyed the beautiful gardens in full bloom on the Saturday and Sunday. I must say we had a fantastic time. Thank you also for the Easter Egg is was really kind touch.

  • Wht q place. As a host I know what it takes to make a place look beautiful. But Sandra out did anything I had seen before. We stayed for my parents surprise 40th anniversary with my family. The cottage itself is stunning. It's of the highest standard in terms of spec. Nothing has been an after thought the whole place comes together really well. Sandra even left us a lovey card and some flowers for my parents which was a lovely thought. The area itself is beautiful, with the right weather you can't beat it. We had a BBQ which Sandra supplied on the large terrace. All in all one of the best Airbnb experiences I have had as a guest. Thanks Sandra.

  • Just had the best weekend in Alphabet Cottage, Robert and Sandra are absolutely wonderful and the cottage is beautiful and cosy! Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Dales!

    Tommy2014-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Alphabet Cottage is perfect for a quiet retreat, beautifully appointed ( with very comfy beds and super hot showers) with everything you need for a stay in the country. Sandra was a great host, quick to respond to queries and with help always at hand but leaving us to our privacy. We had a lovely couple of days and wished we had stayed for more.

    Ruth2016-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Alphabet Cottage is beautiful, in a stunning location and has all you need for a blissful weekend away. But the thing that really makes it stand out is the amazing hosts - from Robert and Kevin popping in to check we were OK throughout the weekend, and Kevin's amazing lemon cake, bottle of prosecco, bread etc that welcomed us from a late train from London, they really did everything to make our trip special. And the beds are SO comfy. Thank you for a wonderful stay - we'll definitely be recommending you to friends and family and hope to be back one day!

Lovely holiday retreat set in friendly village with beautiful surrounding countryside. My cosy cottage is prefect for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, Fountains Abbey and local towns of Ripon, Harrogate and York. Spacious, refurbished, well equipped.
Welcome to Hillcrest Cottage nestled in the tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales. The traditional cottage has been lovingly designed in sympathy to its character whilst maintaining the highest standards of modern comforts and conveniences. The large living room is the ideal setting for your family and friends to relax in, the inviting open fire for which logs are provided is perfect for cosy nights in toasting marshmallows. No traditional country kitchen would be complete without an oil fired Aga. Don't worry if you have never cooked on one before full instructions are provided. You will also find the kitchen is complete with all the modern utensils required for those who like to cook. There is also an inbuilt dishwasher for those who prefer to spend their time cooking rather than washing up. The spacious kitchen has room for six to dine and in addition there is also a separate dining room for more formal occasions. The utility room complete with a washing machine leads out to the cobbled court yard at the back of the cottage that can be used as additional parking for up to 2 cars. A country garden and lawn extend further and is ideal for children to play on or for summer barbecues for which garden furniture is provided. The light and airy main bedroom has the added luxury of a newly installed ensuite and an extra comfortable king sized bed. The two twin bedrooms can also enjoy a clean and bright brand new bathroom suite which has very recently been installed. The cottage comfortably sleeps 6 people with 1 double bed and 4 singles.
The beautiful Yorkshire Dales cannot be beaten on its quintessential charming villages and breath taking scenery. Kirkby Malzeard is a traditional farming village that has been unchanged for centuries both in the architecture and also in its friendly community. At the heart of the village is the award winning local butcher who offers a brilliant selection of local produce. He is only a few minutes walk away but I recommend you go early as his popularity can often result in a shortage of sausages at closing time. The other life line of Kirkby Malzeard village is of course the country pub. The Queens Head is open all year round and is a great little watering hole with a 8 minutes walk home to the cottage. Kirkby Malzeard is located within easy reach of the historic cities of Harrogate (half an hour drive) and York (one hour drive). In Harrogate the Royal Turkish Spa is a beautiful historic building that is a great excuse to visit for a day of pampering followed by afternoon tea at the world famous Betty's tea room. York too is overflowing with culture and heritage with many museums and great restaurants and of course York Minster is a must. The nearest towns to Kirkby Malzeard are Ripon and Masham both 15 minutes drive away. Masham is renowned for being home to two rival breweries Black Sheep and Theakstons both of which you can visit for their daily tours. Not surprisingly Masham is abundant with warm and friendly pubs and lovely places to eat out. Ripon too has great restaurants including Lockwoods and The Royal Oak and every evening at 9pm you can witness the ceremonial horn blowing that takes place in the market square which has been conducted without of fail for centuries. If you are feeling active there are plenty of energetic walks and cycle routes through the scenic countryside that can vary in distances and challenges depending on your ability. In 2014 the Tour de France rode jubilantly through the local area demonstrating the fantastic roads and landscapes Yorkshire has on offer for all fans of lycra. Fountains Abbey only 15 minutes drive away and is a spectacular ruin of great historical significance that has been very carefully preserved and managed by the National Trust to ensure its a great place to visit. Children in particular really enjoy exploring in the remains of the abbey and learning about the life as a monk that came to an end when Henry VIII arrived. Swinton Hall is located 10 minutes drive away and can be visited for a delux afternoon tea, a wedding or to take advantage of the luxurious spa. Swinton Hall has a very high reputation for its cooking school where you can take part in day courses that are highly recommended.
  • We had a lovely stay at this charming cottage in the sleepy village of Kirkby Malzeard. It was extremely comfortable, very well equipped and all instructions were clear. The house was spotless. Ilona was very responsive and helped us with any queries.

    Natalie2016-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • This home is everything you could want in a home away from home !!! The home has been fully modernized and is truly a pleasure to stay in. Ilona is a great host, easy to communicate with and gave us fully confidence that if we had any issues, she would solve them. In fact, we had no issues at all. We would certainly stay here again.

    Clive2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is exceptionally clean, well-equipped and spacious. Communication with the owner was super-efficient and clear. There is a lovely outside area for alfresco dinners when the weather permits. The village is quiet and pleasant, and it has a couple of shops and pub and a great chippy for dinner. Great location for exploring the area. Highly recommended.

    Paola2017-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, well kept cottage. Very clean and spacious, with all of the amenities that you would need. Lovely garden, and walking distance to pub.

    Helene2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was a fantastic experience! A very nice and rather large cottage, perfectly situated on the outskirt of a lovely and quiet village, offering great views on the countryside surrounding it, yet close to many interesting places. We loved it so much that we immediately decided to stay an extra day. Communication with Ilona was easy and smooth, we received all the information required and instructions (house manual) well in advance, and everything inside the house was clearly explained and easy to find. Upon arrival, we were delighted to find a box of very nice cookies and a bottle of fresh milk, allowing us to settle in with a nice cup of tea. She is a perfect host! If you love cooking and never before had the opportunity, be sure to try the Aga cooker. If you have had the opportunity, you probably know what I mean ;-) A little patience and some planning is required, but the results of slow cooking are truly amazing! The butcher's shop a bit further down the street not only offers meat, but also has a decent selection of other food (dairy products, vegetables, ...) for breakfast and diner. If you don't like cooking, that is also not a problem: the village pub also houses a very nice Indian restaurant!

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Ilona's (URL HIDDEN) is a lovely cottage, quite spacious in a beautiful neighbourhood...weather was good too ..a bonus.

  • I can only say I am lost for words. Our stay at IIona's cottage was wonderful. This is our first time to UK and our 5 nights staying at the stone cottage was a 5 star experience. The Aga cooker in the kitchen adds a lively session to our cooking sessions. I have never seen an Aga cooker before and never knew this Aga ever existed. The garden is also beautiful not to mention a BBQ pit, picnic table and chairs ready available for use which we did use for a nice BBQ at the Garden behind on our last night. This cottage is indeed planned out very well and IIlona has done a fantastic job as a Host. To those looking forward to a stay in Yorkshire, look no further. Ilona's Cottage is a must. Thank you IIona for having us..Your cottage has left a place in our hearts. Best Regards Nick Leong, Brunei

  • Honestly, we don't know where to start! The warm welcome, the tea, biscuits, fresh towels, crisp linen, flowers but more importantly the wonderful cottage and garden! These few days have been a wonderful break from our hectic lives: the views, the nature, the beautiful garden, the quiet and lovely area, the nature and the atmosphere of North Yorkshire and the lovely weather have made particularly difficult to drive back home… We would never have imagined finding such a beautiful and well equipped house. Not a single item was missing, from the lovely bbq, to the wood for the fireplace, children's cutlery, kitchen equipments and the amazing Aga cooker. As we have read from the visitor's book, we are clearly not the first ones to have loved your cottage so much. We really hope to be back in the near future! Thank you again so much for the wonderful stay and the amazing welcome. Nicolas

A fantastic opportunity to stay in our beautifully converted barn set in a stunning rural location. The lawned garden and small stream offer plenty of room to sit and play outside, and the interiors has been created by an interior designer. We are only 3 miles from the historic market City of Ripon, with it beautiful cathedral, lovely shops, restaurants, pubs and a cinema. You may choose to simply relax in the garden with a glass of wine or by the large cozy fire in the winter.
This is the home of a designer, so the furniture and furnishing are of the highest standard. You will love the quirky interior space with the mix of contemporary and retro styles. The house is all on 1 level and consists of 4 bedrooms. 3 double bedrooms, 2 of which have ensuite bathrooms and a twin room. There is one family bathroom with bath/shower. The large family kitchen/dining space has double height ceilings, additional seating and TV and a large log burner. This leads to the cozy sung which includes a generous L-shaped sofa and TV. We have Sonos in these rooms. From the snug is a 2nd sitting room with an additional loo and separate utility room.
  • I stayed here as part of a group of late-twenties who were attending a wedding nearby and it was absolutely perfect for us - spacious, comfortable, spotless and a fantastic location in the Yorkshire countryside. Having said this it would also be perfect for families/groups of couples. Victoria and Tom were great hosts - they replied to any queries within minutes, happy to help with information about the surrounding area and even left some food and a bottle of wine to help us settle in. If I'm in the area again I would definitely stay here again!

  • What a fantastic place & a lovely setting. Very thoughtful array of provisions when we arrived & excellent advance information about the place & surrounding area. Would thoroughly recommend this to anyone wanting to visit North Yorkshire

  • The hosts could not have been more accommodating to our chosen arrival and departure times. Tom met us and showed us around and how everything worked. The house is lovely and spacious, decorated in Tor and Tom's very liveable-with style, and is very flexible - with three sitting areas ( including one in the enormous and lovely family kitchen ) and there is a nice split between living and sleeping, so if anyone wants to go to bed early ( unlike my 4 and 6 year olds ) they can do so without anyone disturbing them. Outside there is enough room for a good few cars should you need them, and the house itself is at the end of a long, well made farm drive. If I had to use one word it would be tranquil - there are no immediate neighbours anywhere near, and the only sound is the wind in the trees. An estate path intersects the bottom of the large garden with lovely walks in both directions. We had a lovely and memorable time.

  • A beautiful, comfortable house in a lovely peaceful location. We had a perfect weekend with a family party. The house has everything one could ask including very comfortable beds and is in a peaceful garden surrounded by lovely countryside and lots of attractive villages with excellent pubs! There are lots of attractions to visit: Fountains Abbey, Newby Hall, Ripon, local walks and we even made a memorable trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We had an excellent dinner in Lockwood's in Ripon and also at The White Bear in Masham. Also the house had everything one needed to cook excellent meals at home (helped by a delivery on arrival from Sainsbury's). There are TV's, a Sonos system. a piano and even a drum kit! Tom met us and could not have been more helpful. There was bread, croissants, milk butter and jam as well as access to all the herbs, spices and condiments one could want. I thoroughly recommend a stay in this house.

  • A beautiful home and setting, with close access to glorious countryside. The Vivians were marvellous hosts and provided us with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The beds were extremely comfortable and there was plenty of space and bathroom access to accommodate 4 couples and 2 lively dogs. Highly recommended.

  • Perfect! I personally have a passion for property and design and this house is put together so so well! You can tell the owner is an interior designer and a very good one at that!! The kitchen area where we spent our entire time is an amazing place for people to sit, with a log fire at the top of the room. We didn't even sit in the living room but again it was a lovely room as another option of somewhere to go! The music system they have in the house that you can connect to wirelessly is that good I think I'm going to have to buy one myself! And the garden is absolutely perfect for the dogs to have a run around in and a beautiful place to sit out! I could go on and on about the different rooms but basically it can all be summed up with the fact it's a very beautiful home, spacious, and practical! In terms of the owners - They were incredibly attentive to our needs, whenever I txt or emailed with a question (mainly best takeaways, where to meet them etc) they instantly got back to me! All in all I would thoroughly recommend it as a place for people to stay!

  • Such a magical experience staying in this gorgeous cabin. The private woodland setting, complete with its own BBQ hut and pond (!!!) Makes for a very relaxing and fun experience. Everything felt luxurious and thought out. The breakfast in the tea rooms was particularly nice. Communication and arrangements with key pick up and drop off could not have been easier. This is a lovely getaway which will not disappoint. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights but wished we could have stayed for more. Thank you Scott for creating such a lovely getaway. I recommend it highly. Sinèad & Dave.

  • Quick, friendly communication from Scott to arrange arrival - he's based at the same site which made it easy. Scott showed us round and explained how everything worked - and even left a very nice bottle of wine in the fridge (thanks!). Accommodation very comfortable, relaxing chairs, comfy bed, good TV. Everything very new and clean. Good choice of places to eat / get a takeaway from. Delicious breakfast (included) in the nearby farmhouse cafe. Location perfect for exploring the Yorkshire Dales (Aysgarth Falls, Hawes, Richmond, etc). Very restful. Will be recommending to friends and family + staying again.

Vintage mobile home. Simple but cosy and comfy. Sleeps 2 /3 self catering. All amenities incl. bed linen/towels. If you prefer to bring your own linen then I will refund you £10 on arrival plus an extra £5 for each extra guest. However, it is advisable to bring a couple of extra towels if you are staying longer than a few days. Set in a little garden in idyllic rural surroundings in area of outstanding natural beauty. Perfect for walkers or cyclists.
In 2015 I completely refurbished our old but comfortable static caravan sited in our sunny tranquil farm yard. It comprises of a simple but well equipped kitchen with fridge and gas cooker, plus most store cupboard food basics (condiments, tea, sugar etc.). spacious and comfortable lounge and dining area, and a new shower and bathroom. It has 2 bedrooms, one small double and one single. If required a 3rd separate bed can be made up on the lounge settee. There is free Wi-Fi and a small television. On cold nights the caravan is kept toasty warm with a coal effect electric fire and oil filled electric radiators. Buck House is situated down a lovely little lane in the depths of the country, but still have easy access to all town and village amenities. Kirkby Malzeard is only just over one mile away. The caravan has a fully enclosed little garden shared with the cottage you see in the photo, with BBQ and seating. At night if you are outside you can hear the owls hooting. Min 3 nights, or by arrangement for 2 nights with a £10 supplement per night. If you are only staying a couple of days or so and dont want to cater for yourself, I can provide a continental style breakfast for you yourself at a small extra charge. A small well behaved dog is also welcome at an extra charge of £3 per day or £20 per week. I have a washing machine in the barn in the farmyard which guests are welcome to use for a small charge. there is a washing line in the garden.
The neighbourhood of Laverton and Kirkby Malzeard is rural, beautiful and peaceful. Proper countryside. Now Autumn is here the colours are truly gorgeous. Kirkby Malzeard, the nearest village is only a mile away, and is a thriving community with a great butcher and village shop, pub and a church. Fountains Abbey, Nidderdale and the historic market towns of Ripon and Masham are all within 15 minutes drive; Harrogate, York and the Dales are slightly further afield but still very accessible.
  • Very peaceful.

  • As the locus for a retreat this place is perfect. The caravan/cottage is both more spacious and comfortable than these pictures suggest. The gas oven is new, and works a treat, fitting into a kitchen large enough to allow for a bit of culinary flamboyancy, if you fancy. A good night of sleep is guaranteed by the dead silence of night, and by day, there is the beauty of the place to notice. The weather, during the course of my visit, was surprisingly pleasant. The area, like its wider region, is grassy and hilly, criss-crossed by little streams, old stone fences, and roads (which as per the English custom are comically slim for the vehicles they pretend to sustain). The property on which the cottage and the house are located is diligently maintained and tidy. It teems with a diversity of livestock, featuring an adventurous brood of hens, the meekest of lambs, the fairest of mares, the motliest of ponies, and the boldest of chortling geese, but not much more than a handful of each. Then of course there is Flossy, the affectionate and occasionally excitable springer spaniel, who was definitely my favourite of the quadrupeds. As far as bipeds go, Maxine and Antony are certainly hard to flaw (at least before they flaw you). Both are warm and genuine individuals to whom I owe my sincere thanks and respect. They, like the many colourful visitors attracted to their home, are not at all the dour Yorkshire folk I was expecting to encounter. Rather, the lives led up here, as your host raconteuse will confirm by just a few illustrative examples, all seem to go begging for the attention of a novelist's pen. It was an unforeseen pleasure to have been a part of it all temporarily. Of course I would love to return, and the perfect excuse I already have in mind has me chafing at the bit.

  • Outstanding :). It is one of that must-see places in UK. The location is calm and quiet. Natural environment surrounding this place is pure and unblemished. It is a perfect place to relax. Description fully reflect current status of the property. It is family friendly area with many points of interests. My children were delighted. Mobile home was clean and cozy. Water hot, kitchen devices were working properly. The Hosts - kindest people I've ever met. Warm and helpful. The tradition of British Hospitality is safe. If you are looking for a nice, quiet and a safe place this may be something just for you.

  • This static caravan was just as described. In a beautiful place with loads of lovely walks straight from the door or a short drive away. Very homely with everything we needed and more. It was extremely cold while we were there. Well below freezing, but Maxine was very happy for us to use all the electric heaters and gas fires so we were warm as toast. ( it cooled down very quickly once the heaters were off at night so come prepared for cold nips to the loo!) The kitchen had all we needed utensil wise. There was olive oil, and a few condiments and tea etc and Maxine kindly gave us some eggs too. The bed was comfy but quite compact compared to our king size at home. We've never stayed in a static caravan before so it was all pretty new to us. We would definitely go back though. Thank you Maxine.

    Amy2014-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • L'accueil de Maxine est exemplaire ! Elle a tout fait pour que nous soyons bien installés, et à veillé en permanence à notre confort, et même à notre confort alimentaire en nous offrant des oeufs de la ferme, des courgettes et concombres.

    Charlotte2015-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Maxine and Anthony was like being with family we didn't know we had. The caravan was well-furnished and up-to-date, with comfortable beds and a couch. Everything worked perfectly and we always had tea, coffee, and sugar available to us. We cooked many meals on the stove and took nice walks on the farm. The house is located close to many great attractions and we were able to get around fairly well with the signs posted on the roads and with help from Maxine and Anthony. We particularly enjoyed evening chats with our fantastic hosts and would definitely love to come back some day!

  • Great stay. Fot those traveling with children you might know how difficult this can be sometimes My children are 3 and 5. Catherine very sweetly upgraded me to a much larger cottage at same price as booked cottage. This most welcome courtesy made a big difference to our family unit. The location is great and there are a few nice walks in the area. Cottage was well equipped and clean. To be recommended

  • Catherine was an excellent host! She offered alot of advice about attractions in the Yorkshire area, shops, and the best times to take advantage of those attractions and shops. She was very accomodating and hospitable. The cottage was just clean and tidy. She even put out Christmas decorations, which added a cozy touch. I really enjoyed the central location of the place; it allowed for quick day trips to York, Whitby, the Dales, and the Moors.

  • Lovely holiday cottage on a farm - great base to explore the Yorkshire Dales, very comfortable and clean. We missed Catherine on check-in but she'd already let us know the cottage would be open, which made it easy for us to go in anyway and she checked in with us the next day to see we were OK! Great facilities, lovely place. And the farm cats were very friendly :)

  • Catherine was very helpful and communication was excellent right till my arrival, which was quite late into the evening due to my car breaking down. Barn was comfortable, shower was amazing, views are glorious. I was only there two nights and at an event for most of that, so I really just used it as a place to sleep, but suspect it'd be ideal for a longer self-catering stay.

My place is close to River Ure, Yorkshire Dales, village shop, 2 great pubs, tennis courts and playground, , family-friendly activities and Leeds Bradford airport. You’ll love my place because of its peaceful riverside setting and fantastic village amenities within walking distance and riverside walks from our doorstep. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).

  • The stable cottage on a working farm on the very edge of the Yorkshire dales, was a beautiful, well located and highly enjoyable accommodation for our groups weekend. Anthony was very approachable and supportive also offering flexible check in and out times. Finally the neighbours / housekeepers were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

  • Anthony and Annabel were very helpful during booking and helping to recommend places in the local area. The cottage was just as described - plenty of space for six adults, well equipped kitchen and great entertainment (Sky, pool, lovely walks in the surrounding area) and well heated. Would definitely recommend and will look to stay again.

  • I stayed at Stable Cottage with 6 others and we absolutely loved our stay. The stable is beautiful, clean and totally charming! In addition we found the place clean and with the small amenities that we had forgotten such as washing powder, liquid etc. Finally Anthony was a great aid for helping us find the cottage and had lots of helpful tips for things nearby!

  • Fabulous cottage in a beautiful area of Yorkshire. The cottage was spacious and really well equipped. The pool table is a great addition! Excellent place to stay for a few days cycling, there are great cycling roads from the cottage and there is secure bike storage. Anthony's communications were prompt and really helpful.

Tarn Hows is set in a small woodland on a 20 acre estate on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Our tearoom (High Parks Tearoom) is situated a short stroll through the parkland. With Tarn Hows you can expect a quiet, peaceful stay surrounded by nature.
    - Proper countryside experience with the property surrounded by fields - On-site tearoom open from 9 - 5 daily - An abundance of towns/villages nearby to explore - Plenty of good walks of varying difficulty/length - A variety of nice restaurants
  • This property is delightful - quiet and peaceful yet reasonably close to places to visit etc. Scott made us feel very welcome and was always happy to chat and check if all was ok. Only criticism would be that the trees, although great, almost provided too much shade when the sun did decide to come out! Also Wi-Fi would be good but understand that it is being sorted. Would be very happy to book again.

  • Excellent location, great views (especially in autumn), warm, spacious, quiet and comfortable - and great value for a week’s stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nidderdale is beautiful, and much less touristy than the dales, and there’s so much to see within twenty miles or so

  • Very clean and comfortable. Thank you.

  • We wanted a place to stay near Ripon and found West Leas Farm. The views are spectacular and we enjoyed seeing the farm animals and the friendly cats. Plenty of outdoor space and picnic tables. The cottage itself has basic amenities and would greatly benefit from some updating. Wifi was spotty, but not all guests are going to care about being connected to the outside world 24/7. Catherine our host, was really friendly and welcoming.
