  • Marilyn IS as wonderful as everyone reports. Nice room (Forest View) with amazing windows--we had wonderful views of the waning moon. We wish we had been able to stay longer. Delicious breakfast and good company in the morning. Marilyn also gave us an excellent restaurant suggestion in Fort Bragg, "Chapter and Moon"--filling, but highly recommended. Beer aficionados should not miss North Coast Brewing Co. either! Marilyn's place is perfect when it comes to location and comfort--including the LONG claw-foot bathtub from Sonoma. Add to that a wonderful, consummate hostess, and no wonder the ratings are so high!

  • This was my first experience as an airbnb guest. I have been an airbnb host and this was the perfect getaway for me and my partner, Joe. Marilyn and I talked before we arrived and she went out of her way to make sure I knew how to get there, to recommend restaurants, and where to go for the best hikes. I knew this was a special person from her genuine interest in me and our shared experience as hosts. Her home has personality that stems from the heart and years of making it a cherished home for family and friends. You could just stay on site and enjoy exploring everything, from her beautiful collection of antiques and memorabilia to the grounds. The hot tub was inviting although I didn't use it because of a personal health condition where I can't be immersed in hot water. We had complete privacy in a large, cozy room with large private bath off the hall which was impeccably clean. The bed was very comfortable and the linens felt luxurious. It was fun just having a whole upper floor to ourselves including a coffee/breakfast room. Being in the woods was enchanting with the quiet dark of the night sky and the misty mornings with the sun peaking through the fog. Marilyn, thank you for sharing your home and the opportunity to get to know you. You show the wisdom and beauty of aging creatively! I love who you are in the world and thank you for extending your warm and welcoming hospitality. We were glad we found you in Mendocino! It will be wonderful to return! Your home in the redwoods couldn't be a better retreat for airbnb guests with easy access to everything.

  • Peaceful setting in the middle of Redwoods. Nice, clean accommodations. Marilyn is a most gracious host.

  • Marilyn's house was such a delight! Who would've guessed to build such a cozy place in the middle of the forest? The house and space were perfect for a weekend getaway and really felt like a retreat! The yurt is a fun place to hang out as well, and Marilyn was a great host. We'll definitely be back again.

  • Marilyn’s place was so relaxing and so pure and close to nature. The forest view from the room we stayed in was amazing to wake up to. The solar collecting greenhouse she had was such a great place to eat breakfast and watch the animals move around. We found the house to look like the pictures posted and it exceeded our expectations in some areas. We saw a skunk running around the lot and a deer grazing in the meadow. We were bitten by mosquitoes during our stay, but that was our fault for going into the hot tub during mosquito season. Even then, we enjoyed the hot tub and savored the amazing view surrounding us. Marilyn was kind enough to let us have access to the yurt but we didn’t have enough time during the weekend to utilize that area. She was also very considerate of the fact that we were very private people and came to Mendocino to get away from the crowds and the craziness of the Bay Area. The interactions we did have with her were very warm and helpful (helping with the hot tub); she was very patient when I kept delaying our arrival time due to accidents and traffic, and she took the time to welcome us even though she was feeling a bit under the weather. One thing I would have to note is that there were no street lamps after a certain point on the way to her house late at night so the area was almost pitch black. Even though we weren’t used to that, I think that added to our experience of getting away from the city. We would definitely love to stay here again when we come back to the area. Thank you for the amazing experience!

  • I booked a room at Marilyn's as surprise for my partners birthday. We both absolutely loved it. So quiet and peaceful. Lovely to wake up to a view of the redwoods outside your window. The place was clean and just as described. The claw foot tub is amazing to relax in after a day out enjoying the bluffs and coastal hike in Mendocino. Marilyn was a pleasure to interact with. From the first email until our arrival she made us feel so welcomed and at home. She goes above and beyond. We can't wait to come back for another visit. Thank you!!

  • Marilyn was a very welcoming and accommodating host. We enjoyed the privacy of a full suite, and the house was very peaceful. Her bathroom is gorgeous! The kitchenette was also stocked with some much-appreciated breakfast supplies. We had a wonderful time both relaxing in the house and exploring the surrounding areas.

    Christine2015-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Even though we only met Marilyn briefly, she was very friendly, accommodating, and offered some good suggestions for places to see. The room we stayed in was spotless (bathroom too) and full of interesting books. The house itself isn't too difficult to find even at nighttime and it was a real pleasure waking up in the middle of the trees and being able to see the ocean within a few minutes drive!

  • Absolutely stunning house, vineyard, and hosts. My boyfriend and I started our wine trail vacation here and regretted not booking an additional night. Communication was excellent and the hosts shared their personal wine with us, and even had a wide variety of bottles available for purchase. Jeannine's recommendations for restaurants and wineries were perfect. Robes, slippers, a jacuzzi, breakfast and coffee. I could honestly go on and on. I hope to be able to return. Best Airbnb experience I have had so far.

    Juliet2017-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • Jeannine was a pleasure to stay with providing a comfortable home, wonderful conversation and ample privacy. The home and property were absolutely beautiful, we only regret we did not have more time to spend there.

    Jordan2014-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was an incredible experience! The family is so welcoming, the estate is gorgeous and everything was perfect! Jeannine cooked incredible breakfast's, each one was different the property is gorgeous, so peaceful. The wine was incredible, we joined to become wine members and are looking forward to our next trip! Everything was SO clean and this was our first airbnb experience, we can't wait to go back. The dog Jackson was so friendly!! We also loved the pool!

    lauren2015-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • My sister and I had a WONDERFUL time staying with Jeannine and her family! The house and property are amazingly beautiful, and the room was lovely (and fastidiously clean.) We felt like family from the get-go. Jeannine was prompt and friendly in communications, and provided great directions. When we arrived Mike, the owner and winemaker at Pendleton Winery, was holding court on the back porch and pouring tastings of his personal vintages. We had a chance to meet and mingle with another set of visitors, while the family's little grey kitten did acrobatics for our amusement, and their big Golden Retriever padded around mildly looking for love. We had turned up pretty late, after a long dinner in Healdsburg, but the hour seemed not to be an issue for Mike. He eventually offered to turn off the porch and house lights, and we finished the day star-gazing in the amazingly dark skies. In the morning Jeannine was up early, baking croissants and laying out yogurt and fresh berries and pineapple for our breakfast, in addition to the coffee and tea bar. We spent some time chatting, and then she offered to heat up the hot tub for me while my sister slept in. The pool area is even prettier than pictured! Even though we only stayed one night Jeannine went out her way to assure us that we were welcome to stick around as long as we wanted, enjoying the house, pool and grounds even past the official checkout time. Overall we felt very welcomed and we will be back! I've lived in wine country for years, and I would heartily recommend staying with Jeannine and Mike for anyone who wants a genuine laid-back and friendly Sonoma wine country experience. The house is beautiful, the people are down to earth and the environment is as relaxing as it can be.

    Paige2015-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • All in all a very nice trip. Hosts were super friendly and accommodating and their property is beautiful. We stayed in a bedroom directly adjacent to the kitchen/tv room. Bed was comfortable with it's own nice private bathroom. There isn't a lot of privacy in the room we stayed in as its right off of the kitchen, so may not be the ideal room for honeymooners, but apparently they do have several rooms available at certain times. Will definitely be back, fantastic experience.

    Logan2015-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jeannine and Mike are gracious, hospitable, engaging and unpretencious. Their home is attractive and spacious, yet comfortable and relaxed.Their grapevîne-filled grounds are tranquil and beautiful. We were served some of their fine wine upon arrival. The following morning Jeannine served us a light and elegant breakfast on their patio overlooking the grapevines. We enjoyed one-on-one time with Mike, Jeannine and their lovely, talented daughter, Leslie. Even their dog, Jackson, a retriever, treated us like family. We hope to return to the Pendleton Estate in the near future.

    Genevieve 2016-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • We were welcomed immediately, shown around and given a bottle of wine for my wife's birthday. Leslie, their daughter, hand made a birthday card that was waiting on our table in our (URL HIDDEN) of the best places we have ever stayed!!!

    Russ2016-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Jeannine and Mike are simply the best hosts imaginable. This was our second stay with them, and it felt like we were old friends getting back together with no sense of the intervening time apart. They welcomed us with Mike's award-winning wine and a plate of charcuterie. We spent two nights with them, sandwiched around the Cloverdale Rotary's "Tour de Vin" bicycle ride. We did the 100 km ride, and boy, did Jeannine's hot tub feel good after a day in the saddle. Our second evening there we had a delicious salmon dinner prepared by Jeannine (please chip in for the food if she makes a meal for you, although she would never ask). The place is a little bit of heaven, set on a mountain top with nearly 360 degree views of the surrounding vineyard, forests, mountains and valleys. It's just spectacular. Of course the room is clean and comfortable with a private bath. Leslie, Mike and Jeannine's daughter, is wonderful, and she loves to entertain with dance numbers and gymnastics on the trampoline out by the front patio. Oh, and don't let me forget Jackson, the family Golden Retriever. You'll never find a friendly, happier dog. He'll fetch his ball for you all day if you let him. A thousand thumbs up! This is the very best of AirBnB!

Of course, weather is unpredictable, we might have a perfectly calm winter.* Efficient, tiny galley, on-demand heater, wood stove, handcrafted woodwork. 7 miles to the store or gourmet restaurants. Please have a complete AirBnB profile before requesting a reservation, and feel free to inquire if you're interested in dates that appear to be blocked on the calendar. A few words about Owl Tree cabin to help you decide if you might want to stay here. We first noticed how undulating lacy green patterns change as the morning sun makes its way through the trees. Probably, if you love Las Vegas, you most likely would not like it here. And if you love Deetjen's Big Sur Inn, you would be more inclined to like it here. It is similar to Deetjen's, rustic and natural merging with nature, but dissimilar, in that the Big Sur Inn is most always full to capacity, so you’re in close proximity to people. Here you have privacy, a retreat from the world. The Owl Tree cabin has its own level driveway; it takes less than a minute to walk from where you park to the cabin. We live on the far side of the property. All that you might hear at night will be the breeze in the top branches of the redwoods, and perhaps frogs, an owl, or the red-tailed hawk who soars nearby. Every spot on Earth has its own unique energy and the cabin and the small canyon it was built in are conducive to creative energy, to the creative mind, at work or play. The cabin is also a place for intimacy—hopefully more than just a place to sleep while you enjoy the coast, this place is designed to become part of your experience here. The oak table was the idea the cabin was built around—you can sit there, draw, write or daydream, warmed by the wood burning stove, and let your imagination germinate like the wild orchids in the canyon. Proximity. We are located about four and a half miles inland from Pacific Coast Highway, just beyond reach of summertime wind and fog. When it is cold and wet on the coast it is usually beautiful and warm here, summer tempered by the coastal marine layer. So you can enjoy the sunshine and enjoy the coast, without being stuck in the fog. Closest market, post office and gas are 7 miles from the cabin. Some of the best beaches, hiking trails, places to dive and kayak are between here and Elk, and of course the historic and picturesque village of Mendocino is about 13 miles away. A wine tasting trip to the magnificent Anderson valley is within 30 minutes. The Owl Tree cabin comes with a picnic table and umbrella in a small meadow, next to redwood trees: also perfect for stargazing. Regardless of where you decide to stay, we hope you have a great time. It is hard to imagine a world in trouble when you are here. The meadows, the forests, and the pristine ocean seem timeless. Check in: ideally from 4 pm - 6 pm by prior arrangement for your particular arrival day. Try to arrive before dark! Check out before noon. Note: price includes 11% Mendocino County Bed Tax for stays less than 30 days.
  • The cabin in the woods was really great. Just what we needed for a special weekend escape from the city. Karen was an excellent host. We arrived on the later side after she'd had a tough day and she still took the time to show us around. We'd absolutely back again.

    Evan2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Karen and Will are tremendous hosts and the hideaway is simply outstanding. Everything is artfully, lovingly, masterfully crafted, from the cabin itself to the decor to the quality amenities, including natural soaps, high-end kitchen gear, a powerful hot shower, and warm and cozy bed. This is not just a place to stay, it is an experience.

    Sandra2013-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was a fantastic getaway from the city! The cabin is in a wonderful, secluded area surrounded by trees and fresh air and was the perfect place to get away from it all. Even though the purpose of our trip was to 'unplug' it's still really nice to not have to make a special trip (to get signal) to arrange our next rental car—there was good enough internet connection when needed (wifi) to handle things and then unplug again.

    Geoffry2014-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Karen and Will were fantastic hosts. They were incredibly responsive to any questions I had and were very welcoming. The cabin itself is in a great location, very secluded and cozy. It's only a few miles away from the coastline and a few state parks. Additionally there are plenty of small grocery stores and restaurants within a few miles as well. Overall, would recommend staying here.

    Rudy2015-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was absolutely incredible! What a weekend to remember. Karen made us feel very welcome with personalized notes and a bottle of wine to start us off. Karen and Will clearly put a lot of time constructing the cabin as no detail was spared. From the cast iron firepit to the magical view on the deck looking out into the forrest, this home was truly an inspiration. I hope to return back sometime soon! Thanks so much!!

    Benjamin2015-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Owl Tree cabin is such a unique and special place! Karen was so welcoming and took the time to show us the cabin and share some interesting facts about the property. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the patio, cooking in the galley and simply relaxing. Highly recommended. We can't wait to visit again!

    Melinda2015-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • What description could I possibly add to the beautiful (and accurate) photos of the Owl Tree House? The bounty of glowing reviews? If you're looking for a party house and speedy connectivity to the interwebs, look elsewhere. If you're searching for a peaceful, heavenly getaway that is convenient driving distance to all of Mendocino's natural treasures, this exquisitely crafted cabin is perfection. Communication and coordination with Karen was a breeze. Greeted with fresh eggs and local blackberries upon check-in. Just the right balance of creature comforts, rustic luxury and solitude; perfect for the solo traveler or a cozy couple. I am already dreaming of my return. Thank you, Karen and Will!

    Guadalupe2015-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • The level of thought and care that has gone into this cabin is awe inspiring. The cabin has been lovingly built by hand with impeccable craftsmanship. There is not a nail in sight, everything has been fastened using screws, bolts or dowls. We stayed in the cabin for two all too short nights and I was continually finding little details that blew my mind. For those who are less interested in carpentry, the cabin is warm, self contained and well appointed while still being remote and secluded. The air is fresh, the trees spectacular and the nights so quiet that you can't help but sleep deeply. Karen and her husband are delightful hosts and good people. If I ever need to write a book, this is where I will come to try and finish it.

  • I loved my 3-night visit with the folks who call Pegasus home. I can't imagine a better place to stay for Earth loving wanderers, travelers and sojourners. Sunlit Shanti is a comfortable and charming room in the woods that is nestled among lush organic gardens and surrounded by native trees, forbs and flowers, including apple and plum trees brimming with fruit. The star-studded night sky is an added feature! And the friendly, sweet, well-behaved pooches and cats enhance the vibe at Pegasus. Sunlit Shanti doesn't have its own bathroom or kitchen, but I didn't find that to be a hindrance. The communal kitchen, bathroom and shower are just a short walk from the cabin. Anna greeted me upon arrival and I met Anne Marie the next morning at breakfast. It wasn't long until Anna, Anne Marie and I recognized a kindred connection and became fast friends. For me, this sort of bonding is what makes traveling especially meaningful and magical. Anna and Anne Marie are pure delight. They were sensitive to my needs and made sure that I felt embraced within the communal kinship of Pegasus. I recommend without hesitation an experience at Pegasus and lodging in the adorable Sunlit Shanti. Unless you are a 5-star hotel kind of person looking for luxury accommodations. In that case, you might not be a fit for the rustic beauty and charm of this hidden gem.

  • My 14 year old son Elijah and I had a wonderfully unique and pleasant experience in our sunlit shanti. Steve was kind and welcoming. Spent time with my son and I and made our stay a memorable one.

  • Steve and the rest of the people staying at the farm were warm and welcoming. We were looking for a restful getaway from the city and this provided it. Comfortable bed, beautiful surroundings and great kitchen/common space in the main house.

  • Pegasus Farm was out in the woods and for those who like the silence and the sound of the breeze through the Fir trees. No one was around when I arrived which is fine with me. I familiarized myself with the place and found the Sunlit Shanti. It was quite cute and clean. I did have to walk a bit to the house for use of the offered facilities. The owners of the farm were very welcoming and friendly. I enjoyed my stay and will return if visiting the area again. Thanks, Michael

The 500 sq. ft. space features a comfy living area with a large sofa, table and chairs, a cozy window seat with views to the gardens, and photographs and original artwork by some of The Mendocino Coast's most renowned artists. The sleeping area includes TWO double beds, so the studio easily accommodates four, in one large, light-filled room. A queen-sized air mattress is also available for those of you wishing to add an extra person or two. The well-appointed kitchenette allows you to prepare simple meals with its refrigerator, countertop convection oven, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle and blender. An array of breakfast foods, and coffee and teas are included with your accommodations. A dining table and 4 chairs allow you to eat comfortably, and a beautiful bathroom of modest proportions with a glass block shower, plus large area for hanging and storing clothes complete your accommodations. A very efficient Monitor heater will keep your room at the temperature you prefer. A wet/dry cedar sauna, free weights, hot tub and deck, outdoor shower, comfy hammock, fire circle, W-Fi, and plenty of places to sit throughout the gardens complement your studio space. A separate massage studio on the property offers massage and bodywork by prior appointment with an extremely talented local professional therapist, Paul, and he will help you to fully unwind and surrender into peace. Once you have a confirmed reservation you may message me for contact information for massage appointments. The gardens have played host to many garden tours, fund-raising events, and more than a dozen couples have been married in the gardens over the past 17 years. Please note I no longer host weddings or events, however. I bring my talents as an architect, landscaper, lover of Spirit, and as an innkeeper for 13 years at a retreat center in Sonoma County into play here, where I have finally found a place to live out my passion, and share it with others. I am fully licensed to operate a B&B, and the rates include an 11% hotel tax which I pay to the county, so staying with here helps support the local economy here on the Mendocino Coast. The Garden at Road's End is just 5 minutes from downtown with its restaurants and shops, and from the famous Glass Beach, Skunk Train, and from miles of spectacular coastline with its many beaches and hiking trails. The property is a 20 minute drive along Highway One to the Victorian Village of Mendocino- a must see! I look forward to playing unobtrusive host to those of you who feel inspired to visit and will do our best to make your stay a memorable one.
The neighborhood is a great location, just 5 minutes from downtown Fort Bragg, Glass Beach, and the coastal bluffs, yet the property is at the very end of a quiet gravel road, and the only sounds you will hear are the garden's waterfalls, crows, wind in the redwoods, horses hooves and whinnies in the adjacent pasture, and when the conditions are right, the ocean surf. We are at the edge of the "banana belt": when Fort Bragg is socked in with summer fog, we are very often still in sunshine.

  • There is no way the photos do justice to the studio or the gardens. They are both spectacular. John is an artist. The studio is scrupulously clean and beautifully appointed, with super comfortable beds. There are even blooming orchids, and all sorts of interesting lighting. The gardens are beyond anything we have ever seen in a private home. They are worthy of a spread in Sunset magazine. John welcomed us and showed us around, then tactfully withdrew while giving us full run of the property, including hot tub and sauna. Wow! It was a pity we could only stay one night. We would be happy to stay there for a week. All this and five minutes from the ocean!

  • This best experience in my years traveling on Airbnb. John is the definition of "host". He went out of his way at everything turn to ensure we had the greatest time and we're the most comfortable. The place is breathtaking, I wish we could have stayed longer. We hope to make up excuses to travel here again- this is the top of our wishlist forever.

    Stephanie2017-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great host and an amazing place. Wish we had more time to enjoy the grounds that John, very clearly, spends a lot of time making amazing! Highly recommend John's place.

  • John's place is wonderfully beautiful and unique. Very secluded and quiet, you can spend an entire day admiring his gardens! The space is very comfortable, with beautiful lighting and surround sound. There is lots of scenery and things to do nearby. John is very accommodating, provides nice breakfast items, as well as great information and tips on places to see and eat around town. We hope to visit again some day!

  • After driving down a dirt road for a bit, you will find yourself surrounded by the most peaceful and beautiful place. The landscaping in the yard reflects someone who truly is thoughtful in all the details. Walk around the gardens and look for the statues in unexpected places. The lodging itself is spacious, pristine, well appointed (he offers guests a variety of pillows!), thoughtful (robes to wear to the jacuzzi and sauna) and exceeded all our expectations. John was a wonderful host and we hope to return some day again. The place is close to the beach, several parks, and the Main Street. Luna Tratoria (place he recommended) was out of this world fabulous! Best food we've had since our trip to Italy two years ago. Thanks for everything, John!

    kit2017-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • John's studio is one of a kind. It's immaculately decorated and has fabulous gardens all around. I would highly recommend anyone that wants a nice quiet place in Fort Bragg to stay at John's place.

    Amanda2014-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is truly a garden paradise, many of the Rohdadendrons were in full bloom. Many varieties of birds, and picturesque quiet space... For unwinding, John's expertise of gardening is all around you, from the water features, pond, surprise statues and bonsai trees. To the pathways, hot tub and all the amenities... Great place, we'll be back again and again...

The water tower is nestled among redwood trees a few miles from the Pacific Ocean and a nice coastal drive to the historic village of Mendocino. Very quiet and relaxing, most of what you hear will be the birds and wind blowing through the forest. All bookings include 11% Mendocino County bed tax.
**IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION** before making a reservation. The queen bed is located in the second-floor loft space. Steps to this space are more like a ladder (very steep) stairs and may be a problem for some individuals. Just remember to go up and down facing them... like a ladder :) *The water tower seating is lower to the ground. Please see pictures for reference. The space is equipped with: - Day bed seating - Queen bed in 2nd floor lofted sleeping area - Full bath with standing shower - small kitchenette with a small gas stove burner, compact fridge, standard utensils and dinnerware. We also offer coffee and tea. -Books/games and a record player for music. - Propane gas heating *There is no wifi at the Water Tower
The water tower is set in the woods with no visible neighbors. Our neighbors are all generally very quiet. Our little town of Elk is fairly small, but beautiful. A great place for a hike down to the beach or along the coastline. For any provisions we have a great market (The Elk Store - closes 6:00pm) with sandwiches, cheeses, a great selection of wine and beer, and all other main essentials. You can grab breakfast/lunch at Queens Roadhouse Cafe (Thursday thru Monday 8am to 3pm). There are also many other restaurants/cafes along Hwy 1 within a few miles. The larger market in Mendocino is open until 9:00pm.
  • We had a wonderful stay in the Water Tower loft and were sad we could not spend more time there. It was full of character with lots of special features, like an old record player and delicious home baked cake. It is very quiet and restful in the middle of the forest which made it very romantic and relaxing. Rob and Elsa had provided some personalised recommendations for local walks and restaurants. We would definitely stay again and would highly recommend it.

    James2016-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Rob and Elsa's magical loft in the woods made for a perfect getaway. Their attention to detail, not only with the space but also by the way they made me feel at home, was more than I could have hoped for. I would not hesitate in recommending this Airbnb to friends, and I can't wait to visit again soon!

    Katherine2017-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful, secluded spot literally in the middle of the forest. The area is so quiet, which is exactly what we were looking for when traveling to Mendocino for a quiet and relaxing extended weekend trip. The place is beautifully designed and has everything you need. The kitchen isn't extensive, which wasn't a problem for us, but good to know if you plan on cooking. The bed is very comfy, the space warm and charming, and you can't get enough of the scenery. I would highly recommend staying here!

    Melissa2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Rob & Elsa's water tower is so nice, we've stayed twice! They really do think of everything, from solid vinyl picks to strong coffee to quiet, private outdoor seating; and it was a delight to meet them both this stay. We love unplugging here—even a short stay is rejuvenating—and enjoy how close this hidden spot is to both Point Arena and Mendo. We'll be back again soon. Thanks a mil, you two!

    Brittany2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect magic! We only crashed there for one night on a road trip and wish we had stayed a week. It is beyond restful, relaxing, and peaceful. This place is a heavenly little piece of space with a stunning quiet backyard in the redwoods. The home itself is stunning down to every detail, I wanted everything for my own home, it was so perfectly decorated. Music was playing softly when we arrived, it smelled delicious, there were tiny notes everywhere letting us know how the place worked, including an adorable map of the area with surrounding activities and restaurants -- which we took full advantage of. They left coffee, milk for coffee, treats, etc. The bed was unbelievably cozy. It felt like a grown up play house I dreamed of my entire childhood. Running on now... but you get the idea. It's perfect!! Can't wait to go back!! Mary Page and Johnny

  • This place is simply amazing. Gorgeous, peaceful surroundings, immaculate space, and all these little extras to make your stay smoother. Could not have been happier!

Beautiful living space in our detached garage, 100 ft. from our main house. We have 3 large furry dogs, so we love other animal lovers! We are 4 miles north of the village of Mendocino, set within a mixed Redwood forest, pasture and seasonal stream. We need to pay a 11% hotel tax to Mendocino County, so paying in cash is best when you come.
$ 250. • Cathy and Mark have a beautiful spot, close to the highway, yet far enough away we heard no vehicles. Very quiet and peaceful. The bed was the Best, as well as a great tiled shower with a steam option. The room was tastefully decorated with great, comfortable furniture, nice reading lights, and a wonderful color scheme. We enjoyed our stay immensely, and will look forward to our next stay. Thanks, Cathy and Mark for opening this up for us!

    David2014-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine and Mark were some of the most hospitable hosts we've had the pleasure of encountering so far. Catherine met us as we pulled up at the end of their long, beautiful and very secluded drive. We'd brought our two dogs so Catherine brought our their two leonbergers and their Bernese mountain dog one-by-one and let the whole pack get to know one another which was a very nice and appreciated gesture. The room is wonderful. The vaulted ceiling makes it feel larger than it is without sacrificing the cozy feel of it. The propane stove does a wonderful job of heating the space (while doing a decent job of imitating a wood stove as well). I found myself spending a good amount of time by the stove with my feet up and a good book in hand. There are few things nicer than waking up to the view of redwoods through the picture window unless it's to then clamber out of bed and into the luxurious steam shower followed by a good cup of coffee (complimentary pour-over that was quite nice) and a leisurely stroll around the 33-acre woodland right outside the front door. We've become real converts to the Airbnb method when we travel and keep close track of the places we'd return to and this spot certainly makes the list.

  • Beautiful one room home in the middle of a redwood forest. It's a renovated garage, but you would never guess it from looking at it. The place is a short drive from the scenic norcal coast and charming village of Mendocino. The host was also very friendly and informative, and showed us his many pets, including two beautiful old horses and his massive dogs. Don't let Jet's (the largest dog) size intimidate you, he's an absolute sweetheart. A lovely getaway for two.

    Dan2017-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine was extremely welcoming. We loved staying on her property and felt very at home. The guest house was very cosy and warm while the property was fun to explore. Highly recommended for a couple's getaway!

  • Catherine was a wonderful hostess. She greeted us when we arrived in the evening, gave us dinner recommendations and was so sweet to my dog, a 7-year-old black lab. Her dogs are also incredibly sweet and had a great time playing with my dog. The space is beautiful and exactly what we needed, just isolated enough to be serene but close enough to fun activities in Mendocino and Fort Bragg. I would definitely recommend this and we hope to visit again.

    Kelli2016-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Mark and the three big dogs greeted us warmly upon our arrival. Mark showed us everything we needed to know about the apartment and gave us some great recommendations for places to eat in Mendocino. There are guidebooks in the room that will point you in the direction of some great hikes really nearby, and Mark offered to show us the path to hike to the ocean from their property. The apartment is beautiful and has a really comfortable (huge) bed and other furniture. They even had two sets of two robes waiting in the closet - one set each for warm and cold weather. The steam shower is fabulous. They also provided everything you need for a cup of coffee in the morning and a granola/yogurt breakfast. The general feeling of the place is quiet, calm, safe and cozy. We highly recommend it!

Authentic, rustic, retreat for 1 or 2 guests. Surrounded by young redwood forest, with privacy and a fire view wood stove. Unplug for the week/weekend or stay glued to the mad pace with screaming fast wifi! YES books have been written here. The latest: 'Chaos Monkeys', was published in June by HarperCollins, and stayed about four weeks on the NYT and WSJ bestseller lists. New pricing includes mandatory 11% in local hotel taxes.
Dramatic one bedroom, rustic/contemporary, guest house surrounded by forest, above the tiny coastal city of Point Arena – 3 hours north of San Francisco. This small home was designed as a remodel of an existing hippie cabin-in-the-woods. It has a queen size bed in the bedroom (downstairs) and one, exposed, twin mattress for an extra guest* in the loft upstairs. Soaring 18 foot butterfly walls, separated by an acre of redwood forest from nearest neighbors. It has a garden just outside. No cell phone reception but a landline provided for your use and VERY fast wifi . Filtered ocean view. Also features a fire view wood stove in the living room, a small, nicely equipped kitchen, Fußball in the tiny loft, and a tiled bath with shower/tub. Two other dwellings on the property, each on its own private acre in the woods can be found listed on airbnb. Our "Thoreau cabin/woods/write your book" is a one room cabin tucked away with distant coastal views from 3 windows. Our "Jewel box house w/ wide ocean view" has panoramic views of 5 miles of coastline and comfortably sleeps up to 4. Property is down a mile and a half of dirt road on a steep mountainside, accessible year-round. It is set back on the ridge above historic Point Arena and the Point Arena lighthouse, circa 1868. At this spot, it is possibly 300 meters above and 3.5 kilometers away from the ocean with naked green hills and deep forests of redwood, Doug Fir and pine all around. At night there are no lights to be seen from the guest house, outside of its own small illumination. Tranquil and set in spectacular nature -- excellent for bird watchers and other wildlife enthusiasts looking for deer, wild rabbits, and other small, harmless, creatures. Point Arena is the second western-most spot in the continental U.S. and is one of six locations around the globe selected by NASA for clean air quality samples. In addition to the lighthouse museum (URL HIDDEN) our tiny city has an epicurean French Bakery noted by several national magazines, a coop market with locally produced, organic produce in summer, an excellent 3 star restaurant, bread clubs featuring organic artisan breads AND a first-rate cinema (URL HIDDEN) with a new (usually independent) film each week and live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera. The tiny city is located an hour south of the popular village of Mendocino -- another destination for spas and artisanal goods. Local sports include kayaking, hiking and biking along the coast, fishing, diving and and surfing off the pier. Inland, a 1.25 hour drive from our residence, is Mendocino's famous wine country (URL HIDDEN) which boasts the only still-free wine tastings in the Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino region.
Pristine and nationally recognized coastline with hiking trails and forest.
  • Off the grid and a good location for you to explore Point Arena and nearby coastline. The foosball table was decent (not a Tornado for you foos geeks but still fun). The kitchen is functional but doesn't have a few items you might expect (e.g., no toaster… so use the oven to make your toast, no microwave... so again use the oven, no pasta strainer... so learn how to pour without spilling noodles). Lots of natural light, though not direct light since there are so many trees around. Very peaceful. If you go up the hill to where the power lines are you can get strong AT&T data reception (in case you freak out being off the grid too long... it happens).

  • This is a perfect little cabin in the woods. The peace and quiet amongst the tall redwoods is amazing. The walks along the coast are beautiful and Carolyn was so helpful and welcoming. Also check out Franny's Cup & Saucer in Point Arena. A beautiful bakery with amazing pastries and cakes. I would thoroughly recommend Point Arena and this cabin as a place to stay

    Gerard2014-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful guest house and hope to have the chance to return someday. The location was great - in the middle of the forest, but not even a 15 minute drive to the town and the coast. The cabin itself is lovely - every nook and corner is warm and inviting. Carolyn and Randall made everything easy and clear, and we felt very welcome.

    Nicole2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nice cabin, secluded but close to town. Randall and Carolyn were traveling when we visited, but were very helpful and responsive via email. The wood-burning stove helps heat the cabin, and there are other heaters (we visited in winter). Kitchen was missing bowls, which would have been nice for cereal, and drapes in the bedroom are needed. Three cheers for foosball! The hiking around Point Arena, and feeding giraffes at the B. Bryan Preserve, were spectacular.

  • We had a great time staying here in the woods. Quiet and comfy, just what we were looking for. A pleasant drive into town to see the sights. We would definitely come back again!

  • Very secluded and peaceful place in the woods. Rustic but comfortable. Had a great time, and Randall and Carolyn were perfect hosts.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed this past weekend in the guesthouse, where it was truly relaxing. We got in Friday night after it had been raining for a while and found the wood stove ready to be lit, which saved us time to unpack the car as the house got warm. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, and spices to cook with! The directions we got to the guesthouse and around the area were very thorough and spot on. The guesthouse was so relaxing that my girlfriend and I decided to forgo our dinner reservation and just cook back at the guesthouse. Truly an amazing place while visiting the coast and even more amazing hosts who care enough to see that you made it safely to your destination. Thanks Carolyn and Randall!

  • Great guesthouse. Better than descibed and pictured. Clean, nicely maintained, and well stocked. Helen was there when we arrived and when we left; she is a very pleasant and helpful host. My grandson loved the animals and sports equipment. We are going back for a week over Christmas. We were all more than pleased.

  • We loved our stay at Finch Gardens! Very peaceful and quiet, we loved sitting on the porch and hanging with the animals. The Guesthouse itself is very clean and well stocked- preparing meals in the kitchen was no problem. Helen was a fantastic host and available if we needed anything. I look forward to returning when the garden is in full bloom!

  • We had a lovely stay at Finch Gardens! The cottage is just perfect. The kitchen is really nice and well equipped with many food processors, etc. and allows for extensive cooking, should you want to. It's a space that is really enjoyable both on warm days (all windows and doors are screened and can be left open, there are two patios on each side of the cottage, one covered for some pleasant shade, there's a bbq) and cold days (burning stove and heaters, TV/DVD, many board games, comfy bed). Our 5-year old had a blast checking up on all the animals every morning (goats, chickens, horses). The property is small enough that she could do that on her own, with us watching from afar, and most of the time, she was escorted by one of the dogs. We also enjoyed walking in the creek, which must be really nice to do on hot days. There's a lot to do around: boating, hiking fishing, horseback riding, wine tasting. A great place to stay and the Finch family is wonderful. Thank you for having us!

  • This is a wonderful little guest house, out in the country surrounded by nature. A perfect home away from home.

  • Helen"s place is located on a working farm and you find yourself looking at the horse and the goats and hens right out your window in the morning. It's a real country feel and it's a fantastic experience. Helen is on site for questions, anytime. We were passing through so only stayed one night, 2 adults and 2 kids, but we still had enough space to accommodate all for sleeping, eating and entertainment. There space is well designated and simply, but beautifully decorated. There were outdoor games for the kids on the odd times that the animals were not enough. Helen balanced her interaction perfectly and we felt private, yet not out of touch. We would definitely give Helen's place 5 stars.

  • We loved our stay. The house maintained perfect temperatures, even when hot outside. The rural farm setting was very relaxing. My dog loved lounging around and walking in the river near the house. We enjoyed riding our bikes to town every evening. And the house had everything we wanted to be comfortable. Highly recommend it for relaxation.

  • Mendocino Lighthouse is amazing! My wife and I were in much need of a relaxing weekend and this property was the perfect remedy. Beautifully designed house with unbelievable views of the Pacific. You're never without a view as the rooms are floor to ceiling glass windows. We also enjoyed the very well appointed kitchen. Cooking dinner both nights as the sun dipped down into the ocean was a treat. The house was extremely clean everything was easy to find. Alice provided great communication both pre arrival and during our stay. The village of Mendocino is super close by and we explored there a bit, but honestly, once we arrived at the house, we just wanted to hang there as much as possible. Do yourself a favor and book this one ... you won't be disappointed. Gary & Nicole South Lake Tahoe

  • Stayed here for two nights with my family — clean, cozy, more beautiful than the photos. Alice was so clear, communicative, and helpful with recommendations in the area. Would definitely come back here again if the opportunity arises.

  • Alice's home is absolutely lovely and the pictures do not do it justice! Alice has thought of every detail and there are signs to describe anything you may have questions about and this made the stay there very easy. The kitchen was great for cooking in.The bedrooms are very comfortable. The location of the home is secluded with an amazing view but still very close to town. We will definitely be back!

  • Great stay at alice's house ...the view point is simply amazing and unique , and the stylish modern house is extremely comfortable . a great place to revitalize and spend hours watching the ocean .

  • This place is stunning the minute you drive up. Alices house is modern, clean and simple in design to not detract from the beauty of its location. The house is well taken care of unlike other places, this place is like new! We were able to get in with ease and proceeded to settle in. We took stock of the house before we went shopping. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you need and more. Alice provides guest with the use of a Nespresso machine and pod which we loved and used. I myself have ordered a Nespresso machine for my self. We enjoyed cooking many meals in her state of the art kitchen and dining with a view of the sun setting, truly spectacular! We ate breakfast outdoors every morning on the deck over looking the view and every evening had wine, cocktails and snacks all while enjoying the firepit. Bedrooms and baths were comfortable and because of the good weather we had we were to fall asleep to the waves crashing. There are restictions to Alices place but we did not feel hindered. This is a stylish vacation home for adults to come, enjoy the peace and solitude and leave the rat race at home. This place is true luxury.

  • The Light House Retreat was amazing from the time we pulled up . It was everything we excepted and more. Alice has went above and beyond from the time she contacts you to make sure everything is fine while your in her home or if you have any question's to the end when she contacts you to make sure that you enjoyed your time in her home. The home was so beautiful . Very clean and well kept. The kitchen had everything a chef could ask for. The view's from every room were just breath taking!! Loved how Alice's attention to every detail's threw out the home , One of my favorite details was all the brochure's on the office desk about parks, horseback riding,etc.. This was my first airbnb experience and Alice has set the bar high for future rentals .

    Michele 2016-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely amazing and wonderful place! Beautiful views, very peaceful and quiet.

  • Mendocino Lighthouse is one-of-a-kind. It is luxurious, feels like it's newly remodeled, and the views are spectacular. We spent many hours staring at the Pacific out the enormous wall-to-wall windows. Alice is a kind and welcoming host. She provided detailed instructions that made our arrival and stay effortless. Alice has a knack for anticipating her guests' needs. I can't thank her enough for a truly memorable weekend.

  • If you are looking for a little paradise, tranquil, quiet and surrounded by the sea and lovely landscaping, Clara's Cottage is perfect for 1 or 2 people. It's so much more than the pictures show. The whole atmosphere is a gift to your spirit and your senses. Tenaya and Ed are present but never intrusive. Their helpfulness never disturbs the peace surrounding your stay. We are looking for a way to make this a regular retreat!

  • It was so special to come back to Inglenook and stay on Tenaya's property! We really love the many things to do and see around here. We used a great package at the spa in town that included massages/hot tubs, and a voucher for an amazing dinner at the bistro upstairs. We went hiking, and explored the beautiful outdoor scenery, and also stayed in the cottage playing scrabble and used the wonderful outdoor bathtub. It was SO relaxing ~just what we needed from our busy bay area lives :) Thanks so much!

    Nancy2013-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • A magical place! We'd return tomorrow. Welcoming touches like fresh flowers and yummy goodies. Tenaya was such a gracious hostess, and Ed was available to go the extra mile to come to our aid. Clara's Cabin is a doll house, a lovely jewel. Bathing in the dark with tiny lights twinkling while listening to the ocean--priceless.

    carol2013-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Tenaya was a great host. very friendly and gives great suggestions for what to do in the area. our cottage was in perfect condition and we were welcomed with the best muffins and jam. the cottage is only a short walk to your very own dunes and beach. spectacular!

    Greg2015-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Tenaya greeted us when we arrived with a very comprehensive tour of her beautiful property. The little cottage is adorable, was spotlessly clean, and had a really loving and relaxing feel. We loved the outdoor sitting area as well, and the tiny kitchen was super functional in addition to being totally adorable. It was also incredibly nice to have delicious muffins, strawberries & coffee for our first morning. The outdoor bathing experience is lovely...who doesn't want to bathe under an ancient cypress tree in moonlight? Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful cottage with us, Tenaya!

    Emily2015-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Clara's Cottage was nothing short of magical. Tenaya was such a warm and gracious host, and we very much appreciated all of her insider tips for the area. The gardens surrounding the cabin were so serene, and we couldn't get enough of the outdoor bath open to the sky. Inside the cabin was perfectly cozy, and the homemade muffins Tenaya left us in the fridge were to die for! Our stay was all to brief, and we're already longing to return...

    Lindsay2015-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tenaya was a wonderful host and the cottage was fantastic! I can't recommend this space enough if you are looking for a place to unwind. The garden bath was as lovely as others have described it and the dunes were breathtaking (the hammock helped!). The cottage is equipped with almost anything you would need for a weekend including various cooking equipment and other necessities.

    Brian2013-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Tenaya and Clara's Cottage were an absolutely fantastic experience -- one of our all-time favorites on Airbnb! Everything about our stay was delightful. This was a perfect getaway and a real gem in northern California. Tenaya was gracious, cordial, and clear with all of her instructions. The place is just as it's pictured. And gorgeous sand dunes + the beach are a beautiful 10 minutes walk away! We wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely be back. Thank you again, Tenaya, for this extraordinary experience.

A beautiful uniquely laid back bed and breakfast in the most quaint seaside town on the coast of California. We have 5 of these lovely "standard" rooms, all completely different. As we are a Victorian House, the rooms vary in size as well. But all are upstairs (except our ADA accessible room which is downstairs), All have a bathroom, shower and queen bed. Plus an amazing, home-made breakfast! Only a short walk away from the rugged Northern California Pacific Coast. Not your typical stoic B&B.
  • A great bed and breakfast experience! We arrived later at night, and there was a note left for us with our room key and all of the necessary information about our room and breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was delicious, and everyone we met was so warm and friendly! Our room had an old fashioned wood burning stove for heat (and an electric heater if we preferred) which was perfect during the windy nights. Definitely worth the stay if you're in town!

    Charlyn2015-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • The inn was absolutely as picturesque and comfortable as Charles' pictures made it seem. Our room was sweet and warm with lovely views, and the breakfast we had was delicious. We got a flat tire driving up from San Francisco, and our hosts were extremely helpful throughout. They made sure we'd be able to check in late after we had to stop to change our tire and gave us the name and number for a garage that they trusted once we made it to town. Unfortunately we got into Mendocino quite late, so we weren't able to explore as much as I would've liked, but what we saw was lovely. A perfect road trip stop.

  • We enjoyed staying at Charlie's BnB and really liked the town. The breakfast that Charlie made was really great! Would recommend.

  • My mom and I stayed 2 nights at the Didjeridioo, and wished we didn't have to leave so soon. This is a unique place run by warm, welcoming hosts. We loved the happy, quirky, bohemian spirit of the Didjeridioo and appreciated its innkeepers' hospitality and charm. This historic inn is different, in the most wonderful of ways. Built in 1882, it has served as a boarding place for travelers almost all its existence. The decor is not polished, perfected, and pretentious, but influenced by the many eras and interesting souls who have inhabited this magical place. Mismatched wallpapers from different decades delightfully adorn adjacent walls in the dining room. The gardens grow a bit wild and free, but somehow evoke just as many smiles as their more conforming counterparts in finely-landscaped estates. (We look forward to seeing what blossoms they boast come spring!) Not in spite of but because of its quirkiness, the Didjeridoo is a special and wonderful place. Our room, #65, was lovely. We really enjoyed the woodstove and firewood, and were happy to see it had a full bathroom with a bathtub. Another plus to this room is it is located at the rear of the inn and has private entry. We want to check out the other rooms in the water tower in the future as well! The full breakfasts were a real treat, with deliciously unique spins on everyday breakfast favorites. For instance, one day Charlie made breakfast potatoes with hot chilis and brown sugar - yum! Charlie is very passionate about cooking and it really shows! We loved the breakfast and steady supply of coffee as well as a large variety of Tazo teas. The Didjeridoo is reflective of the progressive, friendly, genuine spirit of Mendocino, and is a true gem. The people are fantastic - TJ, one of the innkeepers, was so great to us. The guests we met during our stay were also very welcoming and friendly. We look forward to returning as often as we can (perhaps with our pets as they have a fantastic pet policy)! We love the Didjeridioo Dreamtime Inn and eagerly await our next stay at this eclectic, fun, feel-good getaway!

  • Very nice bed and breakfast nestled in a quaint town. Walking distance to plenty of restaurants and coffee shops and gorgeous views of the ocean. The owner made a delicious and locally sourced breakfast for everyone which was a nice touch before heading out. We would definitely stay again if in the area!

  • Susan was gracious and welcoming. She knew my intent was refuge and quiet, and did not disturb me, except to check on my comfort. I adored the place, which felt like a home, much more than a hotel room could. Perfect for 1 or 2, with a nice little kitchen and sitting spaces. Susan had provided well for the out-of-the-ordinary cold, and the beautiful sunrise warmed the kitchen and deck. I will certainly be back!

    Heather2013-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Todd and Susan were very warm and helpful! The house and the hot to were great.

    Jonathan2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had an incredible time at Susan's, she and Todd went above and beyond to make us (and our two pups) feel welcome. There were beer glasses chilling in the freezer as well as doggie ice cream. They also left snacks and drinks for guests. The little house isn't fancy, but it has everything you need (and more). The 'backyard' is truly incredible and the view from both the hammock and hot tub can't be beat. For some reason I expected there to be a bit more distance between the little house and the main house (they are probably 25 feet apart), but it wasn't a problem for us. If you're looking for total privacy, this probably isn't the right place for you. But if you want a well-located, beautiful spot, with amazing amenities, and plenty to do nearby, definitely come here--we hope to come back at least annually! Thank you Susan & Todd.

  • Susan was very kindly and hospitalets, we have a god conversation before we arrivied so everything was clear where to find all we need. The little house was nice, clean and perfekt for us two. It was lovely to sit outdoor and the view was fantastisk. You can cook your own breakfast and dinner, that's nice. It was relaxing to stay in this house. Cloverdale is a nice town it was easy to walk downtown and they have music conserts on fridays. It's near to Visit the wineyards in Sonoma and Napa, Redwoodforrest and north Higway 1.

  • We arrived later than expected. Just enough time to stretch our legs after a long drive, before jumping into the hotub to watch a metior shower! The view from the private deck was amazing for the morning cup of coffee. I couldn't have dreamed of a better weekend. If the little house on the hill is available for you, take it. You can walk by a local hotel on the way to Savvy for an amazing breakfast and be so happy with your decision to stay here. Go to Savvy for breakfast!

  • (Sherry checking in) YAY!!!---> We are now officially ((THIRD)) time visitors to The Little House on the Hill! As you can tell, we adore Cloverdale and love, love, LOVE Susan & Todd's incredible cottage. Larry has explored every winding, hilly, backroad and has probably ridden through just about every vineyard in the area on his bike. He never tires of the views! My GG grandfather moved to Cloverdale in the 1870's to help start the Cloverdale Reveille newspaper and he and his family, including my great grandfather, never left. I can sure see why!! On every visit, I spend time at the history center and it's always amazing to learn about their lives in the town that we too have come to love. We're already trying to decide when visit #4 will be.. Probably this autumn. ;0)

    Larry2016-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time! Easy to get to the cute house on the hill. I really enjoyed the hot tub and outdoor areas. Everything was so organized and we had everything and more of what we needed. The temp. In the room was easy to make to our liking and that was really helpful! Todd was very welcoming and had great hospitality! I don't have any complaints. Everything from movie popcorn and movies to books and info on the hot spots of towns near and wineries. I would for sure look them up in the future when I come back to the area. Just what I was looking for and more. Thank you again! Cheers, Ruben & Ellen

    Ruben2016-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • The little house was fantastic! The view alone makes it worth it. I came up for a cycling event in Asti and needed somewhere to stay. What set this place over the top was the hot tub! It was so nice to be able to have a hot tub sesh the night after my ride. Sitting in the hot tub over looking this incredible view was amazing. Susan was very great answering any questions and making recommendations. The wifi is strong too. I brought my iPad to stream the MLB playoffs and didn't have an issue. If you are looking for a great place in Sonoma to do some wine tastings, or just a relaxing getaway look for the little house on the hill.

A large, private bedroom and full bathroom with a strong, full force shower head and tub in a lovely cozy home with ocean view, 4 minute walk to beach, and view of Caspar Bay. Fireplace, kitchen, central heating, internet, large screen dvd player, and two sunny decks available to guests. Breakfast provided consists of bagels and tea/coffee. Cell service is spotty; so, print a paper copy of the directions to my house, and if you will arrive late please call on a land line like in a restaurant.
The location is gifted with deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, owls, and migrating birds! The bed is brand new! It is located 4 miles from Mendocino Village and 5 miles to Fort Bragg, CA. It takes about 4 minutes to walk down the hill to Caspar Beach.
I love my neighborhood as it is very quiet, neighbors are friendly and there is no traffic. The walk to the beach takes only 4 minutes!
  • Todo muy bien. Hace falta auto para llegar. Muy cerca de Mendocino. Muy agradable y cómodo.

  • The house was in a great location within walking distance of the beautiful cliffs of Caspar and the beach. The house was clean and quiet and Rhoda was very welcoming. We did not stay around the house very much but this was intentional as we were there to explore the area. We were very happy with our choice.

  • Very quiet, very clean, lovely view of the ocean a hundred or two meters out our bedroom window. Rhoda is a lovely friendly host, welcoming and not intrusive. Location is about 3 miles from Mendocino, with many a restaurant and bar, and also close to Fort Bragg. Walked at Point Cabrillo Lighthouse. Had a great, very comfortable time. Price was very attractive for the location and the situation.

  • Rhoda was clear in her communication about her schedule. We had some difficulties in communicating back, but Rhoda anticipated our arrival time and was there to meet us. Her home is organised and super clean. It was easy to enjoy the large room provided, with the super ocean view. Rhoda was very helpful in providing elements that gave us a good breakfast experience. Our stay was short, but very pleasant.

  • Rhoda's place is great! She was attending a show the night we arrived, and made sure we had her contact information in case we needed anything- but check in was a breeze. When we saw her later in the evening, we talked with her for quite a while and she made us feel right at home! Her place is close to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. We even saw some deer and wild turkeys up close as we were leaving! It was a beautiful stay.

  • What a wonderful place! My husband and I just returned from a stay here. The studio is spacious, light and airy--but the view is what it's all about. The view is truly amazing. Love the balcony! Deb is very organized and provided a large binder full of menus and brochures for outings. Notes were posted around the house, clearing up potential questions before asked. She was only a phone call or text away. Five stars. We hope to one back soon.

    Kelly2015-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • Deb's Seaside Studio is wonderful! The location is incredible--right on Main Street and across from the Mendocino Headlands. My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon, and we couldn't have been happier. We spent as much time as we could on the balcony, enjoyed the easy walk to all the wonderful restaurants in town, and loved how easy it was to wander out on the bluffs. Deb was a wonderful host and the apartment had everything we needed and more.

    Heather2014-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • The photos just cannot do this place justice. Amazing views off the deck during the day and stars at night through the skylights. Was a wonderful getaway for my husband and I on our "mini-moon." Very easy to pick up and return keys. Deb left a nice bottle of wine for us to enjoy as well.

  • This place was wonderful...thanks for a great stay! It was a beautiful view, a lovely little town and just a great little getaway!

    Lauren 2014-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Studio was wonderful, it was bright and cozy despite the rain. We had a wonderful stay and can't wait to return. The ladies in Deb's shop were very helpful with anything we asked for. The view couldn't be better either. Looking forward to our return so we can sit on the balcony!!

    Karyn2016-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Deb's listing was exactly as described. She was very responsive (eg. welcomed us when we arrived and asked immediately if we needed assistance when she heard that we were having issues with the TV (figuring out how to get sound...haha)). I also appreciated the small details she put into her home, such as an information book containing menus of local restaurants, maps and tourist brochures, as well as books, music and other things that would appeal to a variety of guests. I highly recommend and would love to stay again in the future.

  • Deborah's home is beautiful, inviting and has everything one can need to feel like you are in a home away from home. The view is magnificent. The home light and airy. The chance to have an exercise ball and piano were extra perks. If only we had brought some music books. The wine and coffee that awaited us made it home right away without having to immediately go out and find our way. That was particularly appreciated since we got in so late. Overall, a great experience.

  • My stay at Deb's was amazing - it was too short for sure but the location was perfect and walking distance to everything downtown. The place itself was adorable and the perfect size for two or three people. The views were incredible and it was the perfect place to relax. Thanks Deb - will definitely be back!

  • My friends and I had a great time at Jenny's cabin! Everything was clean and the cottage was exactly as described in the listing. The kitchen was well equipped with anything you'd need to prepare a meal and the complimentary bottle of wine was a nice touch as well. I would definitely recommend Jenny's cabin to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend!

    Kristin2016-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Place is great. Location is just a few mins from downtown. One bedroom, a living room with a wood fireplace that is open to the kitchen, and a patio to the outside. Overall a good experience, only complaints are that the hot tub water was green and communication was lacking (we had to figure out our own way to access the cabin as we never received information as to how to actually get in to the cabin).

    Sinead2015-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome house, perfect for a couple or a small group of friends to relax, eat, drink, and enjoy Gualala together. The house had everything you could need and the location is ideal. Definitely want to rent there again.

  • This cabin is amazing and the location is perfect. If you are looking for a cozy relaxing and even romantic place to spend a couple days or just want to get off the grid and get back to nature, this place is exactly right! My bf and i spent our anniversary here and loved every minute of it. Jenny was very communicative and all of our questions were answered before our trip. The town of Gualala is so nice and the people are very friendly. Definitley recommend this cabin.

  • We had a wonderful time at La Petit Cottage. It was cozy and private in the middle of the beautiful redwoods! We had a wonderful show of thunder and lightning in the am of the 4th of July. It was great we had our own natural fireworks show. We also loved the little town of Gualala. The people were very nice and helpful. We would love to come back again!

  • Wonderful place to stay! My gf and I stayed here for a weekend for our anniversary. Cozy cottage, with sweet fireplace and hottub. The cottage is conveniently located near great beaches and hiking trails. We even saw some whales! We ate at the sea ranch lodge down the road one night it was great food. Don't forget there is no cell phone reception.

  • Great cottage, great trip. Located close to everything but feels a million miles away. Brought my girlfriend and our dogs to surprise her for her birthday. A great time was had by all! The wood stove was prepped and ready to go. The hottub was wonderful. Everything was perfect. I highly recommend and we will be returning in the near future.

An unusual house, an architectural marvel on the Mendocino Coast. While the pictures don't do the house justice, they do convey its uniqueness, tranquility and the seaside beauty of the surrounding area. There are ocean views from the living room, kitchen and master bedroom. The house is cozy and spacious with fireplaces in both the master bedroom and living room. There is radiant heat, hot water circulating under the tile floors, throughout.
  • Great location, beach access was awesome. The outside of the house could use some attention and few essential kitchen utensils would compliment the awesome gas range.

    Justin2014-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This home is a unique, beautiful work of art in its own right. It could have been cleaner in a couple of places, and the bed was mushy, but the beautiful setting and unique design of the house mostly made up for these shortcomings. Bert was very friendly and helpful and met up with me in Berkeley to hand off the keys and give an orientation. Overall, a great getaway from the city and a positive experience.

  • We had a great stay at the Cetusaurus at Irish Beach. Amazing house, clean, cozy, nice views, and very peaceful. Would defintely recommend!

    Jenny2013-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place for a peaceful get away. Beautiful design and plenty of privacy. A great headquarters to explore the coast and all its' splendor. We had a great walk to the beach and an even better time enjoy the solitude right on the sand. At night, the view of the stars is difficult to beat. I would definitely recommend the Cetusaurus.

    Thomas2013-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • beautiful views of the ocean. comfortable home. Bert was regularly in touch and gave detailed instructions to get to the home, and to use the home. we enjoyed our stay very much.

  • We had a lovely time at The Cetusaurus! I met Berton before our visit to retrieve the keys, and he reviewed everything about the house in detail—super helpful. This is a very unique home, and clearly a labor of love (designed by Berton himself!) We really enjoyed checking out the photos of the construction process as well.

    Heather2016-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Berton was a great host! Not only did he make us feel welcome, but he prepared us for every single situation that could have happened in the house. He made sure we knew how to work the heat, how to pull out the beds, what to do if we lost the key. We felt at home and we still definitely be coming back!

  • My friends and I had the best weekend at Kyle's ocean-side escape from reality. Although we had rainy weather, the house was the perfect place to get cozy with some wine, board games, and books. We spent lots of time staring in awe--outside at nature's astounding work of art, and inside at Kyle's hilariously creative treatment of every inch of wall. The large kitchen and dining table were perfect for making our own meals, and I would drink my morning coffee on that deck everyday if possible. We didn't meet Kyle, but he was extremely easy to get in touch with and very kind over email. The weekend was a fabulous reminder of the beauty of both the Norcal coast and those who work to make their dreams become a reality. Thank goodness Kyle is sharing his dream with us! We'll be back.

  • The whale house is amazing! So beautiful and very spacious! Kyle is a dear who was very communicative and left little presents for our arrival. Definitely book it!

    Jill 2013-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • My husband , my dog and I had a good time in Kyle's home. It is located by the road but very few cars go by and so we were not disturbed by any traffic noise. The house has a nice view to the ocean, even with the major fog we got for the first day. The walk to the beach was nice and the steps to arrive at the beach are well maintained. The house was clean with the conforts of a beach house, with a deck facing the ocean and a restful garden to just sit down and rest. Kyle was a very good host, adding some specials as a bottle of wine and chocolates on the pillows, which makes a difference at the end. The art on the walls is not the usual art you might find in most of the rental homes, but that was what made it interesting for me.

  • Kyle was a great host!! The house was very well stocked with all the necessities and clean. We had a wonderful time and the view was absolutely AMAZING!!

    Lou Ellen2014-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks Kyle. We had a lot of fun during our stay. Like other reviewers said I really enjoyed discovering all the art inside and outside of the house. And what a sweet view from the kitchen window. The nearby beaches were great and just short walks from the house. The store one block away was cool and the community was super friendly. So cool to be just south of the "Lost coast" Cheers

  • Kyle made us feel very welcome. His place was nice and clean with lots of art. His binder full of instructions and ideas was very helpful. Great place to relax, hot tub, enjoy the ocean's breeze, and go on daily excursions. We loved the art studio! We played games and dined on the deck over looking the western sky and sea!

    Eileen2015-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kyle's house was quiet, cozy and fun. We immediately felt right at home, and the best part is we were able to bring our dog. There is not much in Westport but Kyle was so helpful....giving us tips before our arrival on where to shop etc. We will definitely visit the Westport Whale House again...Thank you Kyle.

  • This was our fourth trip to Westport and Kyle always makes us feel welcome and appreciated as guests...from the bottle of wine to the gummy whales to the kind note, he goes out of his way make his guests feel comfortable. He provides plenty of information about activities in the area.

The Cottage at Milagro Grande IS: The joy of simple pleasures The casual comfort of feet on the coffee table Coffee in bed while you read one more chapter Scones and orange juice on the deck warmed by morning sun Being startled when a tree frog jumps as you move an outdoor pillow Watching hummingbirds bathe in the fountain and feeling their delight Looking up into the branches of a giant redwood and being awed Strolling through gardens of dazzling color and fragrance Looking into an evening circle fire and feeling its timeless connection Taking home the rejuvenation and healing that comes from slowing down and appreciating the joy of small things Our garden themed cottage offers just the right amount of rustic comfort. There is a queen-size bed fit for a king with a pampered feeling from organic bamboo sheets and pillows. There is a small kitchen with microwave, gas stove, small refrigerator, and basic equipment for light food preparation (after all, you didn’t come to the magnificent north coast to spend time in the kitchen cooking). There is a gas barbeque on your deck for your personal use. There is a full bath. The living area has a full-sized couch which makes into a bed, and a window seat suitable for a child (or an adult who wants to feel like a child). A propane stove provides heat and plenty of cozy without tending a fire. Internet is available. Everything you need for your "simple pleasures” getaway is provided or can be requested. We are conveniently situated a short distance from the seashore just beyond the usual fog line. Downtown Fort Bragg is five minutes away. Come stay with us and let the wonders of the wild north coast soothe and move you, and you will want to return again and again.
  • The home was well kept and Kay was a wonderfully kind and helpful host. Everything we needed plus some tasty groceries were provided. It is a perfect get-away for a couple. The property is beautiful too.

    Zachary2015-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • The semi-seclusion of this property makes for a more private stay. Nice to have separate cans for garbage and recyclables. Enjoyed having morning coffee and afternoon cocktails outside, plenty of seating choices. Very relaxing time.

    Therese2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kay greeted me like I was family. She gave me space when I needed it and conversation when I wanted it. I walked in to the cozy cottage and felt at home. Then I went out on to the porch and there was a magnificent redwood tree. Sublime!

    Susan2016-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Kay's cottage is the perfect getaway! Tucked back in the woods and surrounded by lush vegetation, it offers all of the privacy you desire. Kay was a very friendly and informative host and went out of her way to make us feel very welcomed. Her cottage was very clean and rustically decorated. I would absolutely stay here again!

    Larissa2016-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first Airbnb experience and overall very positive! Kay's place was so cute, and she provided all of the essentials for a comfortable stay. The cottage was clean, well appointed, and charmingly decorated. The grounds were beautiful and we particularly enjoyed the chickens and vegetable garden. The location was perfect, too! While it was foggy at the beach, Kay's home was just far enough from the coast for the sun to shine brightly. The only drawback I found was that the cottage is also quite bright in the morning. So if you are a light sleeper who awakes at first light, I would recommend a sleep mask if you want to sleep in! Unfortunately, we were only able to stay one night, which is definitely not enough to enjoy the local area. I am hoping to return soon!

    Rachel2016-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Kay's beautiful guest cottage! Perfect for both families and a quiet weekend getaway. She is a lovely person, the house is darling and has everything you need, and her property has many magical areas to discover. PS - the hot tub felt great!

    Piper2016-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Kay's place is a lovely, peaceful cottage, perfect for a restful getaway. Kay is a thoughtful and generous host who will stop at nothing to make sure her guests are happy and comfortable. We enjoyed visiting with Kay, eating some of the veggies from her garden, and relaxing completely in her beautiful place. If you're looking for a getaway where you'll be able to recharge your batteries, you could not do better than Kay's place. She has thought of everything to make each guest's stay a joy. When we plan to visit CA's North Coast again, we'll check to see whether Kay has space available before we look anywhere else.

    Jeanne & Jim2016-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • A cozy and comfortable place to spend some time. Unfortunately (for us) our travel plans were such that we didn't get as much time here as we would have liked, and ended up missing our first night altogether which resulted in a rather expensive second night. Since it was out fault we had to bite the bullet but it would have been nice if Kay had tried to work with us on our missed night.

  • Randall was extremely accommodating to my changing schedule, and a wonderful host overall. The cabin is cozy and homey, and in a beautiful patch of woods, and even has a view of the coast. Highly recommended as a getaway spot to read and reflect.

    Antonio2014-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed the one night and it was an experience. Location is remote as described. Try to arrive in the daylight as could be tricky otherwise. Good place to get away from it all.

    Russell2017-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is just as "off-the-grid" as advertised. Down a winding wooded road and then a short walk down a wooden hillside to get there. It was adorable, had everything I could need stocked and easy to find and they even left me a handwritten note when I arrived with their number and instructions to call so they knew I got in safe. The sleeping loft was so cozy (especially when I got sick on my last day there) and a lovely place to watch the sunrise/sunset from. The outdoor shower was FANTASTIC and got nice and hot (there were even a bunch of bottles of shampoo and body wash!), especially on the slightly chilly mornings while I was there. It rained a lot while I was there, and if this is the case when you visit, I'd recommend parking as close to the main street as you can--I almost couldn't get out one day! Being a city gal, it took a while for me to adjust to the absolute quiet and darkness at night. But once I adjusted, it was really relaxing, I slept a lot and got a lot of reading done. Thank you!

    Becky2014-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Paradise in the woods. There are many books, so i got hooked... the shower outside just feels amazing and met the host, amazing. Hope to go back to this little safe heaven!

    valerie2014-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Randall is a fantastic host - responsive, generous and accommodating. His cabin in the woods is extremely cozy + intellectually stimulating. My sis and I had a lovely night hiking through the woods, reading poetry and drinking tea. The drive up from SF was stunning--seeing the coast was worth the trip!! We had a little trouble getting our car down to the cabin - it had been very rainy/muddy + it's in a remote spot - but Randall was really generous and helpful in making sure we left happy and already wishing we could return. I highly recommend this for a peaceful and cozy getaway!

    Amy2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Randall's cabin is (URL HIDDEN) idyll retreat, tucked away far enough in the woods to have no cell phone service and yet just a short drive into town for provisions. He was very communicative and made sure I had everything I needed for an excellent stay.

    jonathan2014-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was absolutely perfect. A small table for eating meals and playing cards. A desk for writing with amazing views of the woods and the ocean. A little radio which, in a very romantic way, only receives the Mendo County NPR station and a classical radio station from Oregon. The heater makes the space toasty quickly. And every shower you take after taking a shower outside of this cabin will pale in comparison--I found myself wanting to take longer showers just so I could keep looking at the trees. The town of Point Arena is only a few minutes away and has a few little cafes, a nice wine/beer bar, a more local bar, the chowder place on the water, AND THERE IS A GAME PRESERVE NEARBY WITH ZEBRAS!?!?!?!. This is exactly what I needed for a few days away from LA. Randall gives great instructions on how to get there and what to do. I would add a trip to the town of Mendocino is necessary. Definitely bring provisions before you leave SF. There are several cast iron skillets, sauce pans, plates, bowls, cups, etc. If you require more than that, bring it! Otherwise this place is perfect!

    Sasha2014-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Thoreau cabin -- it felt so calm and was a genuine retreat. The cabin was was secluded, cozy, well-appointed, and had wonderful views of the surrounding forest and even the ocean. Taking a hot shower under the stars was a highlight. Randall was extremely welcoming and shared lots of helpful information about the area. Another highlight: the cabin was full of so many great books!

Mendocino is also a fabulous destination for a Birthday, Anniversary, Wedding, Honeymoon, or Babymoon celebrations. Or enjoy a visit with the miniature horses... This could be your place to recharge.
  • The studio and location were perfect - quiet, private and peaceful yet very close to town, hikes, and big river. As others have mentioned, the hosts were amazing - friendly, helpful and welcoming. We'll definitely be coming back.

  • Our stay in Mendocino was the highlight of our 10-day California trip (we spent some time in Sonoma Valley and SF too). Glenn and Suzanne were absolutely lovely--making sure we were comfortable and telling us all about the local spots. We kayaked ocean caves, watched shooting stars from our front porch, saw plenty of wildlife, including seals and sea lions, and had the most delicious farm-to-table dinner at the local restaurant, Wild Fish. The wood stove was a nice touch, and made for cozy nights. Would love to go back!

  • Everything you read in the Mendo description is true. Glenn and Suzanne have created a truly Zen environment. The studio is beautiful with everything you need for a quiet, relaxing, and restful stay. The bed is wonderful! The skylight allows you to view the stars while laying in bed. Glenn and Suzanne provided great suggestions of things to do and places to see--Mendocino village, Big River beach, Point Cabrillo, Mendocino headlands were our favorite places. Glenn and Suzanne were readily available if needed and checked in to make sure everything was going well for our stay. We hope to have the pleasure of staying again!

  • Glenn and Suzanne were wonderful hosts and they are very helpful. The studio is close to most of the places and is just 5 min drive from mendo village. We had a very peaceful stay at the studio, infact my wife wanted to extend our stay. This studio offered us the most relaxing environment. We were lucky to see the deer just beside the studio. The muffins they made were delicious. We would definitely recommend this place for our friends. Thanks Glenn & Suzzane.

  • Mendo Studio was absolutely fabulous and Glenn and Suzanne were wonderful hosts. The studio was clean and really beautiful with nice touches like a coffee maker and coffee, a fire ready built in the woodstove, a pretty skylight. The setting was amazing, the cabin was very private and at night it was perfectly quiet (like any good retreat in the woods ) and the stars were just incredible. There were huckleberry bushes in bloom and even ponies nearby in the yard. And the studio was very accesible to everything Mendocino had to offer, and Glenn and Suzanne were happy to help with recommendations. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a romantic getaway with great outdoor activities at your doorstep.

  • Wonderful hosts! This was our first time using airbnb, and we were so lucky that this was our first experience. The location was perfect, extremely close drive to downtown Mendocino but down a private road that made it feel like a secluded retreat. The cottage itself is adorable and very comfortable with a wood burning fireplace. Glenn and Suzanne were incredibly friendly and lovely hosts with great recommendations for hiking. They made us feel very welcome and even let us feed their minature horse!! Could not have asked for a nicer weekend getaway. Hope to come back soon.

  • Just a stones throw from the village but nestled away in the forest, this pristine space offers true escape. The studio is tasteful in it's design and impeccable in it's simplicity, with just enough in amenities to keep you wrapped in comfort. . Suzanne and Glenn are warm and thoughtful hosts. We will be back to stay soon.

  • Anne made my son and I feel very welcome. The room was so gorgeous. I like the old cameras on display, that was a nice touch to the room! Also liked how it felt like the whole property was tucked away and hidden from everything else.

  • Anne was a great host. Very glad we picked this airbnb over others. The location is very quiet and gets good sunlight.

  • Anne and Bill's place was perfect for a weekend getaway for my parents and I. Even before we got there, Anne was a wonderful host. I was running late and texted Anne to let her know and she replied with a wonderfully detailed scenic route to make our drive in better. The space itself was spacious and big enough for my parents to sleep on the master bed while I bunked on their futon. Out front of the house is pretty little redwood porch that we ate breakfast on while we got a chance to get acquainted with their Australian Shepherds (only after Anne asked if we were ok with them running around, of course).

  • This was our first airbnb booking and Anne has definitely set the bar high! The photographer's studio was everything we were hoping for - cozy, comfortable and clean! It was the perfect space to return to after a day of exploring. Anna is a pleasant host and her property is absolutely charming! We loved every minute of our getaway to the Fort Bragg/Mendocino area and cannot wait to return. Thank you, Anne, for your warm hospitality and making our first trip here a very memorable one!

  • Anne was such a wonderful host. There was a little miscommunication with check in (my fault) and Anne as very accommodating. We really enjoyed the studio, very comfortable, spacious, and beautifully decorated. Thank Anne! We really enjoyed our time there.

  • My friend Beth and I felt at home the minute we arrived at Anne and Bill's lovely home and garden. Anne was warm and friendly, helpful and generous; we both felt as if we had made an instant friend. We loved our spacious apartment and found ourselves wandering through their beautiful gardens in the early morning and late afternoon. I highly recommend staying with Anne and Bill. I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I am visiting the area. Anne, thank you for your friendship and conversation. You will come to mind when my irises are in bloom!

Your spacious, professionally cleaned guest suite also includes coffee maker & coffee, tea pot & tea, breakfast foods, dishes & utensils, cutting boards, mini- refrigerator, microwave, utility sink; outdoor and glass-enclosed deck areas, telescope, hand drums, slippers, bathrobes, hairdryer, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap and conditioner, couch, table, chairs, yoga mat & blocks, stereo, Wi-Fi, cell charging stations, and all high quality bed, bath and table linens. Relaxation is effortless after a day of fun and adventure exploring the Giant Redwoods, the famous Mendocino Coast, the parks, rivers and events or the abundant Award Winning Wineries. If you wish to spend your stay relaxing or in retreat, we hold space for you to do that as well. Your well-appointed suite was designed by the same Frank Lloyd Wright School architect who designed and built the main house. Our home is perched on top of the highest point west of Highway 101, with vast stunning vistas of elegant Redwood, Fir, Madrone, Manzanita, Oak trees, plus Chaparral and wildflower covered slopes. We are happy to serve as your personal guides on private wilderness trails, direct you to easy walks on our un-paved quiet road, guide you to our special spots for sitting on a rock contemplating the view of seemingly endless wilderness, while surrounded by singing birds, fresh air and ocean breezes. At night we invite you to sit on the porch in the moonlight or under the canopy of stars which pop out brilliantly in this place of no streetlights or neighbors. Our lovingly landscaped gardens are open to you for strolling, sitting, contemplation. Our fruit trees provide delicious fruit in season, which we are happy to share with you. The Gardens have been a popular feature on charitable garden tours. You are invited to experience off-grid living in a thoroughly modern home with all the amenities. Electricity has never been available here, so for the past quarter century we’ve been building up our own abundant solar generating system, backed up by generator on cloudy winter days. Solar energy pumps our pure and delicious well water, and solar water heating is on the roof. Weather permitting, we heat, cool and cook with solar in addition to pumping our well water, powering lights and appliances. This ranch/retreat is perched on a rocky mountain top in the spectacular coast range wilderness 2.5 hours north of San Francisco. We have 360 degree panoramic views (from your private space too!) of big mountains, forest, and ocean with abundant wildlife and lots of hummingbirds. This is an ideal Nature Lover's, Writer's, Musician's & Painter's spot; perfect for a Birthday, Anniversary, Honeymoon or Special Getaway with your Sweetheart, Best Friend, or Best Traveling Buddy. Terrific home base for visiting Redwoods, Wineries, Festivals, Coast and Hiking Trails all over the County. The Guest Suite, like the entire house, is a bit of an art gallery/museum of our personal travels around the world as anthropologists; and contains a portion of our precious personal reference library. The Suite was built with steel framing - recycled cars - rather than wood, the oak & redwood trim came from down trees on the property, milled on site. The ceiling is redwood, made from the wood of a huge old water tank. The floor is sustainably sourced Oak. The house was designed and built by Thomas F. Bingham, of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. The Guest Suite was designed by Thomas F. Bingham and built by Jay Fraser of Willits. This is a fabulous destination in and of itself. Most visitors settle in and do not leave until their restful stay is over. The acoustics are great for singing and non-amplified musical instruments, hence the many house concerts we have hosted here. A good flashlight is a must for after dark, there are no street lights anywhere, no nearby neighbors. We provide flashlights for you. If you ask, Creek will do a star show for you with his telescope - weather permitting - or you can just relax on the deck after dark, soaking in the vast Milky Way and occasional shooting stars. Definitely bring binoculars if you are into enjoying our terrific birding. Don't forget your camera! Prepare for spectacular Sunrises, and long, lavish, lingering Sunsets where the sun slips into the ocean before your eyes. Wildflowers and stargazing are all superlative. We love spontaneity, so we welcome short notice bookings. Though our retreat is on top of a mountain in the breathtaking California outdoors, we are easier to reach than you may suspect. Our property is only 8 miles from Highway 101, and it is quite convenient to arrive by a rental or personal car. Don't worry about getting here with a city car - I drive a Prius on the route you will take. The big UPS truck comes here daily. The road from the highway is all paved; except for a short, mostly flat, 1 mile from the community gate to our driveway, which is paved in all the tough spots. When you follow the detailed directions to get to the house, make sure you take the designated road which is all pavement from the highway to the Yellow Gate. Internet is adequate for your getaway vacation. We get our broadband wireless signal from a ridge-top source, 6 air miles to the east of us, line of sight. We are grateful to have the best internet outside of the city limits. Much of this county has little to none, mostly due to the landscape; the forest, the mountains, the canyons, and the small, rural population. As your hosts, we hold space for your goals for this experience. If you wish to interact with us, we are available. If you seek privacy, that's perfect with us as well. For your health and comfort, and that of others, this is a pet/domestic animal-free, non-smoking (everything) and drug-free property. Willits (and Ukiah also) has an abundance of excellent restaurants, a book of menus is on your coffee table. It is 25 minutes driving on a mountain road to Willits, so you might seriously consider dining before you arrive, or bringing your dinner - you'll likely not want to leave once you get here, and Willits rolls up the sidewalks at 9 pm. We can easily make the extra refrigerator available for you, especially for longer than overnight stays, so plan on bringing food with you, and sharing our humble country kitchen, if you wish.
Our region was recently voted #3 destination in the world to visit... we are so totally honored! In addition, The Washington Post recently published the findings of a USDA Natural Amenities Scale ranking the most desirable places to live in the United States. Not surprisingiy, Mendocino County and its North Coast neighbors, Del Norte and Humboldt Counties, took three of the five top spots! It is obviously time to take a trip to one of the top places to live in the U.S.! This is a stunningly beautiful rural mountainous region with abundant hidden treasures waiting to be discovered and savored. The peace and quiet, the great outdoors, the fresh air, fresh food, the Giant Redwoods, The Skunk Train, The Wine and Mushroom Festival, the extraordinary Pacific coast ... diversity, friendly people, our first class community theatre, top quality local art, world class concerts, music festivals, award winning wineries, Frontier Days celebration and Rodeo, the July 4th parade, Kinetic Carnivale, Roots of Motive Power, eclectic shopping ... excellent restaurants, local artists, farmers markets ... Our two nearby towns are Willits [about 5,000 people] and Ukiah [about 15,000 people]. We are very active in our delightful community, and will love introducing you to the art, music, excellent restaurants, shopping; assist you with your touring and savoring...if you ask us. We have placed menus and local/regional information in your room, as we are proud members of the Chamber of Commerce. Most people here are very interesting, well educated, progressive, artistic, genuinely friendly and well-informed. Ask anyone on the street if you are looking for something! Mendocino County is a noted art colony, no wonder - who wouldn't be inspired to create when surrounded by all this beauty! Especially for birders: Fall is migration time for hummingbirds. We have so many here that it astounds us. They return in Mid March to spend the entire summer and early fall with us and their nesting trees. We have observed a Peregrine Falcon at very close range from the house. They are resident here. In Fall the Band Tailed Pigeons return to our garden, sunning themselves in the tall trees, especially in the mornings. Ravens are offering commentary in the afternoons these days and doing some incredible trick flying in full view of the house. They sure have a lot of fun. We also have many nesting songbirds in our gardens, be prepared for their serenades, especially in Spring. We also hear frogs, crickets and owls at night. There is no background noise of the city, or nearby roads, so prepare to sleep well. Without ambient city lights we get very dark skies at night, the moon and stars pop right out at us. The flock of local birdwatchers are reporting lots of amazing birds every moment on our local e-group MendoBirds. Western Tanagers, Varied Thrush, Grosbeaks, Hummingbirds, a number of types of Warblers, Flycatchers, Rufous Sided Towhees, Bewick's Wrens, Stellars & Scrub Jays, Mountain and California Quail, Pileated Woodpeckers are among the many birds nesting in our garden. It seems there is a bird show going on in every tree. Our raven neighbors check on us frequently. Wild turkeys and Grouse are in the area. We are dedicated birders, and have a fair knowledge of wilderness skills and resources. We have decades of experience living in the wild lands. If you ask, we are happy to share any of our knowledge. "Leave the beaten path and dive into the woods. You are certain to find something interesting." -- Alexander Graham Bell ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN))
  • Kitty and creek's home in wilderness is nestled on top of a mountain with views of green forests all around with a view of ocean on the horizon on a clear day. The night sky was pitch dark and Creek helped us setup a telescope to gaze into deep night sky, helping us spot craters on the moon and Saturn and Jupiter and mars! The stay was very relaxing and peaceful. We stayed there for 2 nights and we did not want to go out to even grab food. We spent hours sitting right next to hummingbirds feeding on the bird feeders. Kitty is just a delight. She is an amazing person so full of energy and joy. We had so many conversations from art to dancing to cooking! The entire stay there was a gift that we will cherish for a long time to come. We hope to go back sometime soon!

  • I have been looking forward to being a guest in Kitty & Creek's wondrous home since before I had even planned a Northern California vacation, so I was beyond delighted when the stars aligned so that there guest space would be available on our recent vacation. Despite my avid anticipation, somehow their beautiful home and gracious hospitality exceeded my expectations. Honestly, words cannot do the experience justice, but I will try... Above all, their beautiful home and land permeates peace, which is in part due to the location, but also a product of Kitty & Creek's warmth, positivity, and generosity of spirit. We stayed only for two nights...not nearly long enough, but during our brief visit, we thoroughly enjoyed the views both during the day and night (Creek regaled us with a tour of the solar system - planets and start from galaxies near and neighboring. Their gardens are fabulous, and the hummingbirds are simply mesmerizing. Beyond the attributes that make their home unique and stunning, they put fantastic care into providing amenities that make traveling more comfortable (toiletries, breakfast foods, local activity recommendations), and they are great conversationalists. We loved every moment here and are already scheming to return on another visit :)

  • My husband and I spent an amazing weekend at Kitty & Creek's house. The highlight for us was definitely the deck and wrap around porch: the views were amazing. In addition, our own room was spacious and had all of the amenities that we would need (microwave, breakfast food, utensils, slippers, extra sweater!). Kitty & Creek also made room for us in the freezer, and allowed us to use the kitchen for cooking. They were super accommodating, and gave us plenty of space, but also took time to show us Jupiter on the telescope! Highly recommended, would love to go back. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

  • Kitty & Creek are a very special couple with a very special place here. It IS just as amazing as it looks -- and more so. I have never before seen such a more perfect marriage of modern comforts and untamed wildness. Out on the deck you will have views that one can typically only get by "roughing it" up some old logging roads, yet all the warmth and comforts are home are right by your side. Walking through the woods will give you access to world-class views and put you in the middle of the animal kingdom -- birds, bees, lizards, insects, and other critters -- in such a profusion and abundance you will think you are walking through the woods of 500 years ago. Kitty and Creek themselves are founts of wisdom, optimism and perspective, and have created a true sanctuary for all weary travelers -- they are the type of people who keep our civilization on the right track! Come here for stillness and to reconnect yourself to the power of the natural world. You will not leave the same person.

  • This is our first experience with Air B&B so we were a little concerned. The journey from Willits was up up up to the top of the mountain. We read that and expected it. I was impressed as soon as I arrived. Kitty met us within minutes as she was working in one of her many beautiful gardens. The house sits way up on top of a ridge with an amazing view out to the ocean. It was foggy down low but the views are outstanding. She took us first on a tour of the home which is beautiful. You walk into a high ceiling great room filled with art and intersting things from their world travels. Our part of the house is set up in a way that we did not feel like we were in their space. Huge room with windows all around. Also adorned with beautiful art and items from world adventures and lots of books! Comfortable queen sized bed and a nice area for making a meal. Good idea to make an evening of it because you won't find a more beautiful spot to have dinner down in the lowlands. We brought a bottle of wine, some cheese and bread with tomatoes. Creek offered us some of his "special" Balsamic vinegar which made our meal out on the extended view deck amazing. Then the sun set giving us a show that could not be better. Creek brought out his telescope and our evening of star gazing was intense. He is amazingly knowledgable aabout our sky and we saw views of Jupiter, Venus and Saturn that were very clear. Sitting at our earthbound bit of peace with two new friends, really made our adventure special. We will go back and I hope when they are in the bay area, they look us up to stay with us! Now we are off to pick up our son at Camp Winarainbow just North of here. Blair and Gina

  • What an experience! Kitty and Creek were inviting, inspirational hosts that gave us one of the best days and nights of our 11 day road trip from San Francisco to Portland. When we arrived, they gave us a tour of their magnificent home and our spacious private room with wide open views looking in all directions. The architecture of this home is truly something to behold. For anyone interested in staying in a one of a kind home with an amazing story behind it, look no further. The house alone was worth the stay, but Kitty and Creek offer much more to those who are interested (and they leave that decision entirely up to their guests). After making a quick trip back to town for supplies, they took us on a hike to explore their land and eventually to Lion Rock, which provided one of the best sunset views we have ever experienced. The view is nearly 360 degrees of the nearby mountains with the sun setting over a mildly foggy ocean in the far distance. We spent the remainder of the evening taking in the continuing sunset on their porch, sharing stories of our experiences through life, and enjoying a smorgasbord dinner. Our morning was spent enjoying an amazing sunrise (we didn't even go back to Lion Rock to get the full experience, the view from our room was enough to keep us stunned), drinking coffee eating apples picked from their own apple tree, and the variety of other treats they had stocked for us in and out of our personal fridge. They were extremely accommodating throughout our stay and even offered to push back our checkout time to ensure we had the precious extra minutes to enjoy the scenery before continuing through our journey. Kitty and Creek are the the type of people that instantly become lifelong friends with those around them, and we were no different. We are excited to get to know them over the years and will make it a point to visit their wonderful home any time we are in the area. You would be wise to do the same. We really did find a home so very far away from home.

A deluxe school bus located off Hwy 1, 1.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean, provide a secluded, sunny off-grid artistic getaway, with organic gardens, outdoor tubs & "malibu shower", plus fully equipped kitchen, wood-stove & on-demand hot water.
Converted into my home over a decade ago, this bus served as my home until I bought this property in 2006, and it has since been the deluxe guest bus. It is very comfortable and comes with all the luxury one would expect in a cabin -- hot water, full kitchen, refrigerator, and queen bed. It should be noted however, that the ceiling is only 6 foot high, and thus my not be suited to tall people! Also, there is a private toilet, but it is not inside the bus...instead it is a short jaunt from the front door. Also, I suggest bringing flip flops or some kind of easy on and off shoes, both for the bus and the bathroom jaunt. I request that the bus be kept as a "no shoes" environment, as I am discovering that the enviro oak flooring is quite sensitive to wear. Built mainly from recycled & resourced second hand materials, the bus is a 1985 Chevy with a Detroit Diesel engine. Her interior was designed with the "live lightly on the land" aesthetic and all appliances were chosen because they work well with solar power, including propane fridge and oven/stove and wood stove. The bus has an additional sleeping cubby that can sleep a youth and additional bedding is available -- however it is not "child-proofed" so kids must be at least six years old (but "pre-ambulatory" infants are fine too). Furthermore, I'm willing to consider small dogs (10lbs and under) upon request, but the bus will not accommodate medium and big-sized dogs. I prefer not to have dogs in the winter. No cats -- I am allergic.
I live in the sunny "banana belt" part of the coast. Often the fog is just down the road, but not here. The property has full southern exposure, which means it is light all day long. And of course, on moonless nights, the view of the milky way is spectacular!
  • What a wonderful space on a lovely property, all taken care of and clearly very loved! We had a sweet stay on Blake's bus, with everything we needed & ambiance to boot. We left inspired, really. Blake has done a beautiful job making her property and the bus feel happy, cozy & comfortable. The moon rose every night outside the back window, where we were warm & happy. The creative energy here is palpable, with art all around that is sweet, fun, & inspiring. Overall the energy here is just lovely. In the daytime we explored the neighborhood trail system by foot and the many local beaches & forests, so much here for us to see and do, but often we just hung out in the bus and on Blake's land. Thanks for sharing your space & work with us, I know we will be back for another pickmeup soon!

  • Don't think of this simply as a bus. Far .. far more. A retreat doesn't even do this location justice. Just go and experience for yourself. My only remaining question.. how good is too good?

  • Wonderful host wonderful spot! Very comfortable

  • The listing was very accurate. Blake was out of town so Wendy was there to greet us. She was very sweet and welcoming. She made sure to let us know that she would be available if we needed anything. The bus was adorable. The fire made it super cozy. There were tons of books to choose from. There was a deck of Uno Dare Cards as well. My husband and I felt safe and cozy. I would love to come back sometime during the summer when the weather is warmer. If you stay, make sure to take a look at the night sky, the stars are so clear and bright. The outdoor shower was amazing! We would definitely recommend the bus to anyone looking for a different kind of experience than the norm. Thanks!!

  • The best Air BnB ever!!! The bus was amazing! While the photos capture the aesthetic beauty of the place, the wonderful and comforting feeling of this amazing space needs to be experience first hand! Blake was warm and welcoming and the bus and the property it is on is a place a peace and serenity. I wish I could have stayed for longer!

    Michael2016-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Since we had a 6 yr old with us, we were a bit anxious how the bus was going to be. We loved it. Met Blake the next day and she was so open about sharing her garden with us as well as anything else we needed. The bus is exactly how it is in pictures. The only regret- if only we had a few more days. Felt good to be technology free for a while. The bed and the shower was the best part. Even got to see a few shooting stars.

    taral2015-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Made our second visit to the bus over Memorial Day weekend. Another quiet weekend watching the birds, and the wind through the pines. The bus is in a sweet spot in the Banana Belt -- although the entire coast was socked in with fog, the skies were clear over the bus - sunny during the day, and great star gazing at night. Got in some rock hounding at a nearby beach, and sat by a fire in the wood stove on the bus each night. Ah, we'll be going back soon.

    steven2015-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Blake was awesome! She showed us around and was super nice and chill. Everything we needed to cook and chill in the bus was at hand. A great location, sunny and warm on Blake's awesome property and close to the beach and town too. The outdoor shower was brilliant. Lots of art, veggies, eco~love~thoughts and good vibes all over. Blake and her bus rocked!

  • Staying at the Pendleton winery was a lovely way to spend a weekend in wine country. We spent our first day exploring Sonoma and the next day exploring Napa. Our room had plenty of space for the two of us, and we enjoyed having morning coffee and Jeannine's amazing breakfasts on the back patio. The hot tub was a great way to wind down from all the wine tasting at the end of both days. We felt truly comfortable here and would return in a heartbeat!

    Robyn & Geoff2015-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jeannine was very friendly and genuine to us. We had a wonderful time staying here. This place is a great getaway from the cities. It sits among beautiful foothills and we got to stay in an European style chateau. The night sky was also spectacular where you can see the entire Milkyway. Highly recommended.

    Edmund2016-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Pendelton Winery was beautiful and relaxing. My family had a great time with the private wine tasting and sitting by the pool. Thanks for the great weekend!

  • One of our best Air BnB experiences so far! Jeanine and Mike were so friendly and accommodating!! Our room and the bed were perfect for our needs and very comfy. Our breakfast was amazing and we so enjoyed The Pendelton wines!! Our hosts were very knowledgeable of the area, and the the beautiful setting of the Estate made it a very relaxing and peaceful experience. Highly recommend this Air BnB for a wonderful base of wine tasting in the area or, just a relaxing getaway!!

    Teri & Tom2016-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jeannine and her family were wonderful! Amazing food and hospitality. Made us feel at home, if our home was on a beautiful vineyard in Sonoma county!

    Babu2015-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts really made us feel at home, and we had a lovely trip. The breakfasts were delicious, too, as was the wine. Thank you for everything!

    Gina2015-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our overnight stay at Jeannine's beautiful house was wonderful! She and her adorable and sweet daughter Leslie and their dog Jackson were so welcoming and warm - we only wish we could have stayed longer. The house is lovely, at the top of a hill with a fantastic view of the surrounding valley and vineyards. We went to the Francis Ford Coppola Winery just 15 minutes away for a night of outdoor music and dancing, and returned to Jeannine's for an amazing view of the stars. The next morning we awoke to delicious coffee and a fantastic french toast breakfast. We'll definitely go back!

Vacation rental on the Mendocino Coast, amidst gardens, meadows & forest, 150 miles north of San Francisco. Our Quiet Meadow Cottage is located on the spectacular Mendocino Coast in a beautiful rural area just 1.5 miles from Pacific Ocean on 13 acres of gardens, meadows and redwood forests, with sheep and llamas next door on our quiet, dead-end, paved road. We are 5 miles from the fishing village of Albion, 12 miles from historically preserved coastal village of Mendocino (an art, wine and food lover's paradise) and 20 to 30 miles from Fort Bragg’s harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, the historic Skunk Train, two virgin redwood preserves, and many Anderson Valley wineries. Our guest cottage is clean, cozy and quiet with a queen bedroom, tub & shower bathroom, small kitchen, sunny deck, and a comfy, sun-filled living room (with 2 additional day-beds). No other houses are in sight (besides the owners' next door), deer and wild turkeys frequent the meadow in front, nearby are extensive flower and organic vegetable gardens, and at night what you usually hear most is the distant ocean surf. Costs: During the off-season (Jan-March) it's $115 per weeknight and $135 for Friday and Saturday nights. During the high-season, April-Dec, it's $145 per weeknight and $165 for Friday and Saturday nights. There is a 2-night minimum, a one-time $50 cleaning fee and no other fees. (The county bed tax is already included in the list price.) You get a 15% discount for week-long stays and 33% off for a month. To keep the cottage fresh for all occupants, smoking and pets are not permitted. More photos can be sent to you upon request, and several photos of the property, garden and Mendocino Coast area can be viewed at the owners' home-exchange website, available at Quiet Meadow Cottage, spelled as one word, followed by a period and com. Note that we have video and DVD players and a TV set for movies, and lots of movies, but we do not get TV reception or cable. Cell phone reception works for some carriers and not for others. There is a phone in the cottage in case you want to give it to family or friends, and which you may use freely for local calls. The internet is accessible thru a high-speed Internet connection. The cold Pacific Ocean 1.5 miles away keeps our summer daytime temp below 80 degrees-- 60 degrees during foggy days-- and nights can go as low as 45 in summer and 30 in winter. Bring layers. The cottage is heated centrally by a Monitor propane heater whose thermostat you can adjust to your desired temperature. And we do provide all bedding, towels, bathrobes, hair-dryer, iron and ironing board, and numerous books, games, CDs and DVDs. Your deck has 2 recliners and a BBQ, and you're also welcome to use our 2 bikes and canoe. The check-in time is 3pm, and check-out is noon. We do not provide breakfasts or meals. The kitchen includes a propane stovetop, mini-fridge, sink, microwave and toaster ovens, stick blender, toaster, coffee makers and a tea kettle, plus sugar, salt & pepper, and usually some teas and spices. However, you need to bring your own coffee, cream and all the food you want to eat. Many restaurants are available in the area, and Albion village has a good little grocery store and deli. Driving directions are at the bottom. We wish you an enjoyable time in the country, Tom & Sharon Comments from the guestbook: "Thank you for creating such a spacious, uncluttered, tranquil environment. This lovely cottage, deep rest, miles of quiet, and black nights all conspire to ease my wound-up nerves." "We enjoyed our stay and were very refreshed by the quiet, natural beauty nearby and deer and wild turkeys stopping by to visit from time to time. We loved our 3-hour kayak ride up the Albion River. We didn't see another soul but did see several harbor seals, river otters, cranes and hawks." "This is truly a special place. I was looking for a retreat and I found more... I found myself again. Thank you for creating a safe, warm space and sharing your incredibly beautiful property." "You have a truly magical world here and a cozy cottage to comfort guests. Being here in this enchanted forest is a true gift." "Thanks for this lovely space to rest and become restored. The nature, the quiet, the warm and sunny days have left us all softened around the edges." "This is my 5th time staying here in this cozy space. Your land is more beautiful than ever and the peace and quiet so supportive. The blooming wysteria was an extra delight, truly lovely."
Our immediate rural neighborhood is explorable via paths thru our meadows and woods and by walking on Middle Ridge Road, a little-used, dead-end road, and country lanes. The village of Albion is 5 miles away and has an excellent little grocery, wine selection & deli plus post office, hardware store, ocean harbor, beach, boat rental and 3 restaurants. Seven miles up the coast from Albion is Mendocino-- a historically preserved coastal village and an art, wine and food lover's paradise. Seven miles further north is the larger town of Fort Bragg, with a large harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, 20 restaurants, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, and the historic Skunk Train. Fifty miles inland from Albion are two virgin redwood preserves and 20 Anderson Valley wineries. Albion is great base for hiking, biking, kayaking and exploring the beautiful North Coast.
  • We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The setting was picturesque and the accommodations incredibly cozy & comfortable, with all the things you need for a nice stay in a beautiful place. We look forward to coming back again in the future!

  • We had a lovely time staying at the quiet meadow cottage. The surroundings are beautiful and the hosts were super friendly. The interior was a bit more modern than we thought from the photos and well appointed. If we had to make a criticism it was that you could hear everything anyone said in any room from anywhere else. The place is well suited to small families or a couple. We tried to squeeze 4 people in and it worked out ok because we are all old friends. This was not a detraction just mentioning it in case privacy is a concern. We would definitely stay again and enjoyed our time at the cottage.

  • Tom came over to say Hi and knocked on the door as if we were neighbors and not his renters. He did as he said and did not bother us. It is very secluded and quiet! It was clean and well equipped for our stay.

  • Our stay at the meadow cottage was a perfect getaway from the hustle of city life. The property was enchanting and healing. We met Tom while strolling through their beautiful garden and he was welcoming, friendly, and kind. He provided great anticipatory guidance on navigating our way around the place. My friends and I were very pleased and enjoyed the entire experience.

  • We had a great weekend stay at the cozy cottage. It's in a more rural area, so it's really quiet and full of beautiful scenery. Our toddler enjoyed running around the meadow, and we had a nice scenic jog.

  • Lovely and clear directions for arrival and use of all the amenities in the house. The garden is absolutely fabulous and we loved watching the hummingbirds in the morning! Fantastic place to relax.

  • We had a great long weekend staying at the cottage! We enjoyed reading outside in the warm sunshine, surrounded by the lovely meadow and flowers. Tom was a great host, definitely unobtrusive and let us read in their beautiful garden. The cottage is a few miles inland, but still only a 15 minute drive to Mendocino. Great getaway weekend!

  • Peaceful and lovely accommodations. Bridgette's room/suite was beautifully appointed and spotless. Everything one would need including toiletries. The location just north of the village of Mendocino was ideal for us to take day trips. The ocean view was special. It was truly like being a houseguest or a traditional B&B, as the suite is in the host's home. The special touches like the macaroons, cookies and coffee cakes were much appreciated. Thank you!

    Elisa2016-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Bridgette's place was a wonderful retreat to spend a couple of nights. My boyfriend and I greatly appreciated all of the small, personal touches - she has clearly thought of *everything* a guest could possibly need and provided it before we even asked. A real treat!

HIDDEN in the Redwoods of the Northern California Coast, just 6 miles from the Village of Mendocino, Big River Farm is a tranquil getaway just minutes from the Pacific Ocean, endless adventure, fine dining, and much more.
Big River Farm was once a Zen commune in the 60's. We have retained much of the flavor of that time. There are 4 dwellings on the property, strategically situated to have privacy from each other, but sharing the driveway, orchard & garden. The Zendo is a REDWOOD HOUSE nestled amongst the ferns and cherry trees, and can sleep 4 between its cozy BEDROOM w/ queensize bed and LIVING ROOM w/ queensize pullout sleeper couch. There is a separate "bonus room" in the TOWER for yoga or quiet time. This room is not heated or insulated, so the wintertime is a bit challenging, In the summer it is a lovely retreat. We added satellite wifi to the Zendo, so guests can check their email & surf the web. We have limited data, however, and streaming video or audio is restricted. LARGE KITCHEN is well-equipped for cooking and entertaining. A couple or individual could enjoy the spacious single bedroom house, or up to 4 guests can comfortably share an incredibly AFFORDABLE vacation house. PLEASE NOTE: WE RECENTLY (8/1) CONVERTED TO ON DEMAND HOT WATER. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF INSTALLING WATER TREATMENT FOR THE ENTIRE PROPERTY, BUT NOW THE ZENDO HOT WATER DOES NOT SMELL OF SULPHUR. ALL WATER HAS BEEN TESTED AND WE WILL TREAT FOR MINERAL DEPOSITS.
We are surrounded on 3 sides by State Parks, so are really located "deep in the forest" while still having access to the paved road to town. We can walk down a trail to the river from the property, but it's very steep and most people enjoy going to the mouth of the river to Big River Beach and walking or biking up the Haul Road on the other side of the river. There are trail maps on the desk in the Zendo.
  • Such a magical little haven. The Zendo is beautifully constructed with the most amazing little details everywhere. We cooked up a storm in their luxurious kitchen and especially adored the wood oven. The bed is super comfy and sunken into the lower floor of the bedroom so it feels extra cozy. The best part was waking up the first morning -- after arriving in pitch black -- and realizing we were practically in a treehouse. You're surrounded by an incredible redwood forest with a thick bowl of fog. So special!

    Gina2013-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • "The Zendo" was a very interesting, unique, beautiful and fun place to stay! Debbie was available and she made the check-In process easy.

    Tamara2014-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Zendo is amazing! This lovely retreat is way bigger than it looks in the pictures. Modern comfy furnishings (including a great kitchen) in an utterly charming wooden cabin (plank floors! hand-framed windows!). At night you can see the stars over the tip-tops of the redwoods from the huge bedroom windows. Delightfully tranquil and private but an easy drive to town (and ocean). Everything was super easy -- quick and friendly email communications, simple check in/out, clear house instructions, nice local maps and guides, etc. Thanks for a fantastic retreat!

    Sarah2016-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin checked all the boxes for us. Remote, scenic, artistic & romantic, coupled with all the amenities a couple could need for a stay in the Redwood forest. For us, this is the perfect getaway spot.

    Jeffrey2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Zendo was magnificent. We spent some time in Mendocino and the surrounding area, but Zendo was the highlight. The setting was magical. We're from the East Coast, and though we've hiked a lot in the west and visited Muir Woods (many times), we were blown away by the redwoods towering over the compound. The amenities were terrific as well. Debbie's paintings are wonderful and nicely complement the decor. The whole place is a visual delight. I think what I liked best were the windows-- everywhere, even in the inside walls. And, as advertised, the stereo was great-- like the systems I so fondly remember from the 60's and 70's, large cabinet speakers and all. We throughly enjoyed our stay. Next time we'll stay longer.

    Willard2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had an outstanding weekend at the Zendo. Set beautifully in the woods, the private cabin is equipped with everything you need to enjoy the surroundings. The view from every room is so magical and serene. Debbie is a gracious host as well.

    Daniel2017-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • Zendo is a perfectly outfitted cabin in the middle of a majestic redwood forest. The smell of the forest alone is worth the visit. The awesome sound system is icing.

    Patrick2015-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie was great at answering all of our questions- very helpful and accommodating. note that the tower is detached. for some reason, despite it clearly saying detached in the description, i didn't realize it until we arrived. The tower is not really a place to spend the night- would be very very cold there. Because we have young kids, it required supervision with the large windows and single paned glasses. The house itself is beautiful! very cozy. The wood stove really kept us warm and it's very nice that they provide space heaters where necessary (like the bathroom). the king sleeper in the living room could be replaced for a more comfy one. i actually bumped my elbow on the side metal bars so much i ended up with bruises. kitchen and dining were my favorite rooms in the house. spectacular views in all directions from every room! Thanks for everything Debbie!

Located in a quiet, rural area and yet only a few minutes drive from downtown Fort Bragg and one mile from the beach, our beautiful private cozy cabin was completely remodeled in 2014.
Our secluded, cozy cabin is located just north of Fort Bragg near the end of a quiet gravel lane. The cabin is in a rural area and yet is just a few minutes drive from downtown and its numerous restaurants and galleries. Also just a few minutes drive are the Skunk Train, Glass Beach, the Noyo Headlands Park and Coastal Trail, MacKerricher State Park and Pudding Creek Beach. The cabin is close to the main house, but with a separate yard and entrance, so is very private. The accommodation consists of a large, light and airy sitting/dining room with vaulted pine ceiling. This room also has a kitchenette comprising of a sink, microwave, toaster, refrigerator/freezer, tea kettle and coffee maker (Note: there is no stove or cooktop). The bedroom has a comfortable queen bed and en suite bathroom with shower. There is a small covered redwood deck with table and chairs. A very efficient gas monitor heater is located in the main room for those chilly evenings. Free WiFi access is available. Binoculars, beach towels, beach chairs and coolers are available to borrow on request. There are many activities available locally including whale watching, fishing, hiking, cycling, kayaking, horse riding, to name a few. Fort Bragg has many festivals throughout the year including the Whale Festival in March, the Mendocino Film Festival in May, the World's Largest Salmon Barbecue and Mendocino Music Festival in July and Paul Bunyan Days in September.
  • Fiona and Neil were wonderful hosts and very welcoming when I arrived. The cabin was warm, clean and very cozy. The location was great too, just a few minutes drive from downtown and Fort Bragg's many attractions. I would definitely stay there again!

    Heather2016-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I loved staying here. Fiona gave us a friendly greeting when we arrived, showed us the unit, and recommended a great beach. The property is very quiet and private. It's in the country but a very short drive (about 5 minutes) to the center of town. The yard is nicer than the photos make it look. The unit is clean and looks new. The bed is very comfy. We will definitely stay here again.

    Greg2016-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay in Ft. Bragg. Incredibly convenient, comfortable, and brand new. Even though the cottage is on Fiona's property, it's designed so none of the windows face the main house which it gives it a feeling of privacy. There is also a nice porch with a view of the trees where you can have coffee in the morning or relax in the evening. Fiona was a great host. She was very welcoming and sweet. She also provided multiple maps and books for hiking and food around the area. I would definitely stay here again if I was in Ft. Bragg

    Vincent2016-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was beautiful, secluded, clean, well-appointed with good coffee and other snacks, and is just as described. Excellent value indeed. The cottage is located in a wonderful secluded area of Fort Bragg, on a private road, but very convenient to the rest of the town. Our hosts could not have been kinder or more welcoming. The only infelicity was the rooster in the backyard that woke us up at 6am, but as we had to leave early it was a helpful alarm.

    Nathaniel2015-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We were welcomed by Fiona and shown around. The cabin was newly renovated and very nice. The kitchen had coffee, tea, dishware, silverware, glasses. All the necessities as well in the bathroom, towels washcloths and hand towels. It was very quiet, and private, which we loved. Bed was very comfortable. Listing should say shower only in bath. I was fortunate that I brought a shower cap to save my hair from getting wet. I would stay at this listing again in a heartbeat if we were in the area again.

    Susan2015-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Neil were excellent hosts and very understanding when we arrived much later than expected. The cabin is in perfect condition; very comfortable and exactly as described. All of the necessary kitchen items were available for use (including much needed coffee the following morning), cozy towels in the bathroom, and the bed was very comfortable. I don't know that we'll ever make it back to Fort Bragg - but if we do, we'll definitely be staying here again!

    Jessica2015-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We were scrambling to make last minute plans for an overnight getaway, and Fiona was quick to answer our request (within 1/2 an hour) and open up her adorable little cabin to us. The cabin is like having your own private suite without the noise and nuisance of anybody above, below, or next to you. And the price is more than reasonable. Fiona and Neil were there to greet us when we arrived and gave us a quick run-down of the cabin and some great recommendations for dinner and dessert (the fish and chips at Sea Cal's was amazing!). You are able to come and go as you please with your own private stepping stone entrance, and they have a great porch overlooking a cut little meadow of a yard. The cabin is off a rural road and you feel quite secluded, but within 10 minutes you can be in downtown Fort Bragg or be walking on any of the many beautiful beaches that are all so close. We will definitely be coming back again and hopefully staying for a few more days next time. I highly recommend this place!

  • Fiona and Neil were great hosts. They greeted us as we came into the property and Fiona gave us the load-down on the cabin. Listing is accurate and it was quite, close to town and a great spot on the Hwy 1 trip.

  • Sooooo Charming and unique! Another last-minute rental due to some change in road-trip plans and we wandered on to this Pacific coast Shangri-Lama in Fort Bragg. Dana walked us through directions and got us checked in and comfortable. The morning light only made the stay at the Water Tower cottage even better. Clean, bright and cozy with the cutest furnace/ fireplace that kept me and my dog warm on what i figured was, a mild night. The Kitchen was clean and coffee provided, and the bathroom and tub were perfect after a long drive.

  • This is, by far, the best AirBnB I've ever stayed at. The little tower room was extremely cute, with the bed in a loft above the rest of the room. There was a nice little patio outback overlooking a little pond. Sadly, it was raining during our trip and we couldn't enjoy it, but it was nice to look at. And, the best part, there were LLAMAS!! This was such a fun and delightful surprise! It seriously made our trip. I will say that the steps up to the bed are very narrow and more like a latter than steps, so if you have mobility issues, this may not be the place for you. But if not, it's super fun!

  • We had a great stay at the water tower. Everything is as shown and even better; the spacious shower and nice heating were nice surprises.

  • Lovely apartment for a one night stay as we were driving down the coast. Kitchen was well-equipped with everything for self catering. Dana provided us with clear directions for check in and check out. Would recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay at in the area.

  • wonderful & cozy little space, the backyard area with the pond and trees provided a nice sanctuary, the jacuzzi bathtub was put to good use :) enough space for 2 people to fit into. overall very nice space to stay

  • What a unique place! A real craftsman's delight. Especially the stairway going up to the tower.
