*NB Min of 4 guests in holidays pls use contact host* A quirky converted Baptist Chapel in the Brecon Beacons, 15mins from Crickhowell and Abergavenny with a secret story and lots of sleeping options. Warm in winter with thick stone walls that are calming and quiet. This is a simple place to detox from busy lives. Cosy nights in front of the wood burner with friends or family. A place to read, play the piano, listen to music, sing, cook or just do nothing. Cycling, walking, from the door.
Hugh’s Chapel comprises of two self-contained but adjoining spaces, suited to a romantic or special weekend for two or a get together with family and friends, up to a maximum of 8 persons. We just let to a single group and expand the space available depending on the group size. By default for bookings up to four persons you will be in the main chapel. If you are a bigger group then we will expand out into the Sunday School area through the pulpit door which is normally kept locked. If you are four and particularly want both parts we are happy to discuss and the best thing to do is contact us through contact host option. Unfortunately its difficult to cover this flexibility within airbnb pricing system at present. We try and make it affordable for small and large groups. Hughs Chapel is the main part with the main double bedroom with lots of sleeping possibilities for fold out beds in the main chapel. There are lots of little corners if you want some time to yourself or to read a book. Its great acoustically and listening to music is wonderful. But its the feeling of those thick, calming stone walls that is really special and the light that comes in through the windows at different times of the day. Its simply furnished but comfortable. From that point of view its easy to relax into the feel of the Chapel. The Chapel’s story is also something unique but you will have to find that out for yourself! Through the adjoining pulpit door are the Sunday School Rooms which houses a double Bedroom with arched window and nice views, family bathroom with bath and shower, back door, stairs leading to upstairs third bedroom / living room with foldout double sofa bed and is spacious. Off that space is a small fully functioning kitchen with great views of the black mountains. There is a set of french doors onto a deck area with views of the black mountains that leads onto a private garden with trampoline. This area gets a nice drop of sunshine from late morning until the sun sets.
Friendly and welcoming, quiet apart from lots of sheep on the hills and cows in local farmers field so sounds very rural. You will be warmly welcomed into the local pubs You can hear the streams in the background. Very old industrial archaeology tramways, railways, quarry working, iron works hidden in every corner. Hidden valleys, beech woods, small waterfalls, lots of birdlife, Owls at night, Cuckoos, woodpeckers, peregrines. Despite this very good links to Abergavenny 15mins by car and only 25mins by bike downhill ! So good base to go and explore the rest of the National Park or further a field Cardiff, Gower Peninsula, Forest of Dean, Wye Valley.
  • Absolutamente increible.

  • Absolutamente precioso hallazgo, recomiendo encarecidamente alojarse aquí.

Poppy Cottage is our little project...Ros, Nicky & Chloe run the cottage and work hard to ensure your stay is as relaxing as possible. We don't have a string of cottages, only one...'Poppy Cottage', and we hope you enjoy staying as much as we enjoy welcoming guests to this hidden area of South East Wales. Featured in 'In the Footsteps of Alexander Cordell' by the author Chris Barber, Poppy Cottage is a charming 18th Century 2 bedroom stone cottage once occupied by quarry men and iron workers. The perfect country retreat and haven to discover with a myriad of outdoor activities combined with beautiful scenery right on your doorstep Situated in a rural setting on the side of a mountain in South East Wales with Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Brecon and Cardiff all within easy reach. There are countless activities in the area, from gorge walking, mountain biking and walking; and for those brave visitors, there are also more extreme activities nearby such as sailing, kayaking scrambling, caving, horse riding, and rock climbing. With a courtyard garden offering stunning mountain views, forest walks, and mountain streams, right outside the frontdoor, there's no need to get back in your car. The Brynmawr to Abergavenny cycle path is also just a short distance away. The remains of the original iron works, viaduct, and the largest preserved forest in Europe are again within walking distance, and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is just a 5 minute drive away. As advised for health and safety reasons
In a steep gorge west of Abergavenny is a magnificent, ancient beech wood with ferns, mosses, birds and a waterfall. Clydach Gorge is a hidden treasure. As you drive along the A465 through the Gorge, you may be unaware of the tranquil glories that are just a stone’s throw away. Here, growing on steep slopes, is a magnificent woodland of native beeches. The surrounding landscape has been shaped and gouged by the forces of nature and the Industrial Revolution. Clydach Gorge has a fascinating history. From most parts of the reserve there are views of abandoned tramways, old quarries and industrial settlements. The former railway line along the side of the forge between Abergavenny and Brynmawr is now a cycle path leading into and around the reserve. Within the woodlands you will find rare whitebeam trees, distinguished by the white undersides of their leaves in summer and red berries in autumn. They occur nowhere else in the world apart from a few other locations in Wales and England. Abergavenny is situated just 10 minutes away. Known as the traditional 'The Gateway to Wales' this ancient and welcoming town is the ideal centre for a truly refreshing holiday, whether it be a short break at any time of the year, or a longer leisurely stay. Abergavenny hosts an array of events all year round. Ranging from the ever popular Food Festival, the Shire Horse Show, the Steam Rally and the Annual Festival of Cycling. In 2016 Abergavenny is also host to the Eisteddfod. The local area also boasts two 'Michelin Star' restaurants. Namely The Walnut Tree, and The Hardwick. Don't forget to visit your local and swap travel stories with the villagers, the Cambrian pub is a 2 minute walk up the hill and a very welcoming environment to spend an evening, get to know more about the area, or play a game of pool

Recomendaría Poppy Cottage a cualquiera.

    Anthony2018-07-24T00:00:00Z

Newly converted 3 bedroom cottage nestled in the valley between the Sugarloaf and the Blorenge. Part of a grade two listed eco barn conversion, completed in 2016 which sits between two other dwellings. Minutes from the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal you can view Table Mountain and the Black Mountains from the barn. The famous Brecon Beacons are only minutes drive away. The barn is also situated within a national dark sky reserve so light pollution is minimal and very clear skies are visible.
The cottage is in between two other dwellings, both of which are available to rent. It offers accommodation for 6 people in three bedrooms. It is super insulated and has triple glazed windows to provide a warm and peaceful escape from it all, there is also underfloor heating and a ventilation system.
Perfect location for walking. It’s in the Brecon Beacons national park. Minutes from the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal. 5 mins drive from the historic market town of Abergavenny and 5 mins from the quaint Crickhowell. Black mountains are visible from the barn. There is a local shop, post office and pubs within walking distance in Gilwern village itself including a new pub called the towpath inn. There are a range of supermarkets and shops in Abergavenny, the closest is Waitrose about 5 mins back up the dual (take first exit and it’s off the round about and has a petrol station). Crickhowell just won Britain’s best high street 2018 and is 10 mins from the barn in the opposite direction to Abergavenny. There are lovely local shops and really nice pubs. Our favourite is The Bear.

The cottage is an attractively restored stable block in the grounds of the owner's house which dates back to the 18th century. The cottage lies adjacent to the ruins of the Clydach Ironworks, now an ancient monument, alongside the picturesque Clydach river which runs through the dramatic Clydach gorge. The river runs behind the cottage, it is fenced off but visitors with adventurous children should be aware that, especially in the winter, the river is sometimes quite a torrent. On the southern edge of Brecon Beacons National Park the nearest village to Clydach is Gilwern (1 mile) which has shops and pubs and lies on the Brecon & Monmouthshire canal. The cottage is just 4 miles from the market town of Abergavenny and 4 miles from Crickhowell, it is also historically linked to the industrial heritage of the area - 'Cordell's Country' - being the birth place of Thomas Phillips the mayor of Newport during the Chartist uprising. Hayman's Old Stable Cottage is ideally situated for walking, cycling, touring and caving and has convenient access to the A465 Heads of the Valleys road. The Clydach Gorge has the greatest concentration of disused tramroads and inclines anywhere in Wales, most of which feature in the Clydach Gorge walk which passes by the cottage.
