  • We greatly enjoyed our stay at Alan's cottage. Alan was welcoming and friendly. He greeted us on our arrival and gave us a tour of the cottage and information about the area. He later gave us a tour of the theater, which was quite impressive. The cottage itself was charming, clean, and cozy with beautiful views of the area. Overall, we had a great experience staying at Alan's cottage and highly recommend it!

  • Alan's place is amazing and Alan is a great host! The setting of the cabin and the property it is on are truly charming and the views are great (Acadia is visible from the cabin itself). The location is great for those who want to keep distance from the overdeveloped tourist scene at Mount Desert Island, and yet still want to be close enough to Acadia National park. It is also a great base for exploring other areas of coastal Maine, including Blue Hill and it's surroundings and Deer Island. Alan is charming and gracious. If you have the time it is highly recommended to explore the property together with him and even have dinner or breakfast in his cabin. We truly hope to return some day and explore the region at great detail.

  • great host! great place! to all music lover, there s a venue with shows on the weekend, five piano in a barn! wow! thanks Alan

  • Alan's cabin is a very cosy and charming place, very quiet and in an amazing environment. Perfectly located to go to Acadia, and the surroundings offer stunning views on the Maine mountains and waters. The breakfast was excellent both mornings we stayed. The only drawback is the shower not located in the cabin, but I know it's a work in progress :) Alan was a great host, very welcoming, interesting to talk to and always ready to share great stories! He took us for a tour of the premises on our last morning which was amazingly beautiful. We'd definitely recommend this place and stay there again. Thanks again Alan!

  • Alan's cottage was cute and cozy and has some nice views on a clear day. Alan is a nice, flexible host, as he showed us the concert hall (converted barn) on the site. The location was a twenty minute drive to downtown Ellsworth and about forty-five minutes to Acadia national park. There were nearby trails that Alan pointed out, though we didn't have time to explore. The only thing I would point out is that the bed is in a loft that requires you climb a ladder. You can see it in the picture and it wasn't an issue for us. Overall, it was a great and affordable way to be near Acadia.

    Travis2014-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • My fiancé and I had a lovely stay at Alan's cabin in Surry. We spent most of our time exploring Acadia and relaxed at the cabin in the evenings. The sleeping loft was comfy for two and we appreciated all of the information about local attractions. I would certainly recommend the place to friends.

  • This is a beautiful cottage on a very special property! Alan was a very welcoming and gracious host- he was prompt in getting back to us and was able to give us great advice regarding what to see and where to find good food and coffee!. The cottage is just as the photos depict- cosy, clean and peaceful. Sleeping on the mezzanine was lots of fun! The property is also very beautiful with lots of history and stories which Alan kindly shared with us. A great place from which to explore Arcadia National park and the surrounding towns.

    Coastal Maine Cottage
    216 evaluaciones
This modern, four-season cottage looks out over the Benjamin River, towards the Eggemoggin Reach. There is water access at high tide. Large glass windows flood the space with sun and provide gorgeous views. The single-story cottage sleeps four in the two bedrooms and could accommodate 2 more on couches in the living room. The beautiful, coastal setting provides the perfect location for a quiet getaway.
The house is situated only feet away from the tidal Benjamin River. Water views are possible from three sides of the house. The open-floor plan includes a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and living room. The entire house is tiled, with radiant heat to ensure comfortable temperatures, no matter the season. The two bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with twin-size bunkbeds) each have access to a full bath. The master suite opens to the outdoor deck. Total privacy and seclusion is guaranteed. Enjoy the silence and the dark night skies.
Sedgwick is a small village on the Blue Hill Peninsula. It's very rural and quiet. Blue Hill (a 15-minute drive away) offers restaurants and shopping. Stonington, a picturesque fishing village, is also a short drive away (17 miles; about 1/2 hour). Lots of opportunities for hiking, boating, birdwatching, beachcombing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or just watching the tide come in and out.
  • This is one of the most amazing Airbnb Properties. If you happen to be browsing looking for a place to stay close to while going to Acadia national park - Let me suggest this - Forget Acadia and the nearby hotels, this will probably the most memorable experience. Lovely place, host and great communication!! Do make a trip to Stonington and get yourself a harbor cruise.

  • Good place and very good advices from Anne

    laure2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time staying at Anne's cottage (yes, we loved it so much we wanted to go back!). There is really nothing I would change. The space is bright, open, and airy, with plenty of room for everyone to 'spread out' and get comfy. It is remote and quiet. You feel as though you are all alone - just you and the wildlife. Anne was just a great hostess. She was very responsive on getting back to me, and the house looked and smelled freshly cleaned when we walked in. If you are headed up to Maine, and want a quiet place to unplug from the world for a bit, go spend some time at Anne's lovely cottage.

    Debra2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at Anne's! The cottage is beautiful, immaculate, full of lovely antiques, and stocked with anything you could need. The views were stunning in and out. Peaceful, amazing get away. I would love to stay here again!

    Amy2016-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's place is beautiful, peaceful, clean and quiet! Anne was also super attentive. I will for sure come back!

    Jennifer2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's home is on a beautiful part of the peninsula with open views to the water. The home itself is a light airy open floor plan that allows you to feel like your are in an inside outside environment. We really enjoyed out stay there.

    Tim2017-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Anne was a wonderful host, and her cottage is just delightful. As the listing says, it sits on a tidal river that changes throughout the day. Watching the tide come in and out from the little deck or from the wall of windows in the family room was a real highlight. The setting is beautiful, quiet, and rustic, but the home itself has all the amenities you would want for a weekend away. Anne was very responsive to our requests for a fan, a lobster pot, a coffee grinder, etc. She was there if we needed her, but otherwise, she let us relax. We had a fantastic experience, and we'd love to return!

    Elizabeth2016-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Anne was very nice with warm personality, neighborhood was very quite and out of the way with restaurant, gas station and any other attractions.

  • Ann's house is beautiful and modern and the setting is amazing. We loved the foliage and bay views and felt connected to nature. The house had everything we needed for a relaxing stay and her recommendations for things to do in the area were comprehensive. The central hangout areas feel cozy and connected while the layout of the bedrooms provides for privacy. We loved our stay!

    Stacey2016-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • The House was just as described, and the location was spectacular. We chose this location because we wanted space for our extended family to have a nice reunion and this was a perfect place. The kitchen is at the center of the home and make a nice focal point for the family to cook meals together, but there bedrooms are far enough away to give the peace and quiet one needs after being with in-laws for too long. We loved this home and would stay again if we come to Maine again.

    Lea2015-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • I don’t usually write reviews but this home was amazing. Extremely clean with all that you could think of included. Ann is quick to get back to you with any questions. Amazing amazing trip and place!!

    Lynne2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The home really is as beautiful as shown in the pictures, if anything they don't really do it justice. We had an amazingly peaceful and restful time while there and would heartily recommend the location to anyone looking to spend some time in this beautiful part of the world.

    Prajitno2015-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Ann's home was beautiful and very well appointed. The pictures don't do justice to the space, it's quite spacious and very modern amenities. The kitchen was fantastic and great for cooking and entertaining. We hiked around the property and on local trails through the island heritage trust and blue hills conservation. There was plenty of firewood and we used quite a bit of it! It was very quiet and serene with distant water views and nightly sunsets. We were lucky to have 4 WD getting up the drive, it was a bit Icy but friends of ours did not and were fine.

    Lauren2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous!!! A beautiful, spacious, and extraordinarily well designed home created to meet your every need. We found it to be a place of peace and serenity with a gorgeous view of Penobscot Bay. The house accommodated six adults beautifully, with enough room to spread out and have privacy. The kitchen was very well equipped, beds super comfortable and showers great! We loved the location with wild blueberries everywhere and peaceful trees and surroundings. Our favorite place to eat was Mariners Pub right down the road. It is a great base camp for visiting Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park , the Blue Hill area and Stonington and all the small fishing villages along the coast. We loved all the lobster! Thanks so much Ann, for your gracious hospitality and sharing your lovely home with us! We will be back!

  • This is a lovely house, and was perfect for our family vacation.

    Shawn2016-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • My small family had a very enjoyable stay at this home. The materials and craftsmanship are a high quality. It's bright and open to take in the steady breeze and beautiful views of the surrounding forest and bay. The location is very private. We never saw or heard other people. The wild blueberries were so so abundant when we were there in August. All the house-wears one could want were there and of high quality. Beds and pillows were very very comfortable. We were especially impressed the screened porch and outdoor furniture. There are granite and slate terraces all around the house as well, giving even more room to live. TV had cable and every channel one could want, though we used it rarely. Internet wi-fi was good. Lighting was excellent. You feel like you are in someone's home...a home they love, and we did too.

    Stunning Hilltop Architectural Gem

We are 3 minute walk to a very quiet beach. Acadia National is only an hour away. Sail, kayak, hike, browse art galleries in Blue Hill and antique shops abound. Sit by the big fireplace or porch swing, Relax, make memories of old fashioned pleasures! But Slow Wi-Fi!!!! Sorry! Steep stairs to this suite.
Maplehurst is a quaint, Antique home with lots of history, set in a tiny village on the ocean. Attending a wedding at Edgehill? This is the Ideal place for the parents of the happy couple. You can walk there or drive over in one minute! We are upscale with more bathrooms than Edgehill. We are near Blue Hill which is filled with Art Galleries, music, antiques shops and lovely restaurants. Haystack and Stonington are close by. Acadia is an hour, as is Bar Harbor. You can enjoy all types of ocean cruises from either Stonington or Bar Harbor, for a few hours or all day. Verizon cell phones are not working well here, but you may use our house phone for sure any time!
We are a tiny hamlet of 94 households and crime really does not exist here. People are friendly and kind. After dark you will only hear the sounds of nature, possibly the occasional car. Cell phones normally have 1-3 bars at Maplehurst. . Maine is THE most rural state and also very poor, so there is no money to build the infrastructure. Our speed is 9MB per second versus Manhattan which is 150MB per second. Hopefully you will come to relax and get away from technology and work for awhile. If you do need a working weekend, Portland might be a good solution.
  • As repeat customers to Maplehurst (yes, it's THAT good), my husband and I were honored to be allowed to manage our arrival and departure -- solo. Annie was off to visit family elsewhere and couldn't be there, but she entrusted us to letting ourselves in and making ourselves at home -- which we, so easily, did. Just as on our first visit, everything was perfect. Annie sees to everything. When a rainstorm started as we left for dinner, we grabbed an umbrella, made handy in the everything-under-the-sun area that Annie prepares for guests in the most thoughtful way. Maplehurst is truly a remarkable spot (history, art, flowers, comfort) that is most welcoming. Nothing is overlooked. On this second visit, our dog Frances was provided her own comfy bed -- an addition since our first visit. Annie takes this AirBNB business very seriously and we have been the lucky recipients of her hospitality TWICE!!

    Judith2014-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Annie's beautiful home is worth the trip. She has a real place of history to live in. We enjoyed the private beach and Annie....not to say she would always do this....delivered gin and tonics to us! We used this airbnb as a home base to see all of the beautiful towns in the area. Annie is honestly one of the most generous and truly amazing hosts you will find. She has thought of everything and offers it all to you as a guest.

    Bryson2015-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect spot to get away, find some peace and quiet and enjoy Acadia. An easy walk to the beach and short drive to Deer Isle. Annie and her son were excellent hosts. They had fantastic breakfast options at the House and nice accommodations. Everything was clean and as photographed. Accommodating for my dog bear and had plenty of recommendations for where to eat and what to do. Would certainly return ! Thanks Annie.

    Elizabeth2014-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible house and wonderful host! Annie was so generous and lovely! She made us feel right at home!

    Caitlin2016-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Please just read Annie's "About this Listing" to get a good idea of how much she has thought about every single aspect of what goes into being a welcoming, generous, and authentic host. There simply isn't anything she hasn't thought about and provided if at all possible. She even apologizes for things she has no control over, such as the spotty cell coverage and little bit of extra driving you undertake to stay in this gorgeous but rural area. My daughter and I were there to visit Acadia National Park and after all the efforts (amply rewarded!) of hiking and sightseeing, it was like returning to a comfortable palace each night. There was even a huge selection of cold beer and wine for a small price--best touch ever! A well-stocked pantry and fridge for breakfast, deliciously comfortable bed and bedding, artfully decorated rooms in a mansion with views to die for--I could go on and on about what a delightful and amazing place Maplehurst is, one with an interesting family history as well. Annie was friendly and accommodating in every way and gave us one of the best recommendations--the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound--ever for a dinner stop on the way back to her place. She also took the time to write us a welcome note with accompanying photo spread of Maplehurst and its views in various seasons. There were even chocolates on the pillows. I have always wanted to stay in a place that offered this amenity! This is a truly special place.

    Rebecca2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Annie is a natural host. She made us feel completely welcome but also gave us plenty of space and privacy. The house is lovely, the bed is comfortable, the gardens are beautiful, and we spent hours reading in the sun on her deck. It was just an overnight getaway but we left feeling rested and completely relaxed. Thanks Annie!

  • This is a beautiful, historic house that has been in Annie's family for generations. It was so interesting to hear about the history of the place and her family. She has made the house very comfortable and inviting while keeping its true character. The location is perfect and convenient to area attractions. There are views, garden, wraparound porch, gazebo, and a dirt path to the beach. The rooms are lovely. The mattress and linens were really comfortable. We had a cozy sitting room and there were thoughtful touches everywhere to make our stay feel luxurious... A fireplace in the main sitting room with liquors for a nightcap, chocolates in the rooms, coffee and teas in the room, cold drinks on hand, books, movies, travel guides, morning newspaper. It was my birthday and Annie had beautiful cupcakes for my husband and me when we returned from our dinner out. The breakfast choices were awesome, with every type of breakfast food and beverage you could ever want. Most importantly, we felt very relaxed. Annie is an excellent hostess and we will definitely stay here again.

    Melissa2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • From the start, Annie was very accommodating with an early check in time, as we had a wedding to get to. The day before arrival, she sent us a text to make sure we had direction to get to there. We were greeted upon arrival and shown around the property. Annie was very nice, sympathetic to my broken ankle, and respectful of our need to get changed and off to our friend's wedding. She even offered to pick up specific snacks at the store. The bed was comfy, and the suite had just about anything you could ask for from food to entertainment. The view was beautiful, and if I wasn't injured, and we didn't have somewhere to be we would have loved to explore more. We would definitely stay here again.

Sunny, quiet apartment with full kitchen, full bathroom, and private waterfront access. Five minute walk or one minute drive to public waterfront and boat launch.
Quiet pastoral neighborhood along the Benjamin River is a favorite location for walkers, joggers, and bicyclists.
  • Ian was an excellent host and it was a great place to spend the nights after exploring Maine. He was very helpful and a gracious host.

    Deniz2017-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a cozy, clean, cute apartment set in a secluded setting - very quiet and private. In 30 minutes we were able to drive to Stonington to take the ferry to Isle au Haut to hike a quiet part of Acadia National Park (the cost is $91 for 2). There was coffee, milk, and cereal provided which was great.

    Francy 2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for the local experience when staying in Maine, stay at Ian's AirBnb! Located in Sedgwick about 2.5 hrs North of Portland and an hour South of Bar Harbor it is a little bit off the beaten path, but don't let that deter you. Ian and Nancy are super communicative and despite my girlfriend and I underestimating the drive from NYC, they accommodated our later arrival. Nancy was kind enough to greet us in the morning with ideas of things to do and places to eat! If you're a fan of hiking and exploring the coastline of the area Ian is super knowledgable about the hiking trails and surrounding areas.

  • Great little apartment for two. Across from the water. Very quiet. Good internet service.

    Karen 2017-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is perfectly locatedm next to the water, remote and has a spacious garden and kitchen to cook. We really enjoyef our stay and can only recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a place to unwind and relax!

    Katharina2017-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Since Ian was already back at school, his mother Nancy took care of us. Nancy was a very welcoming and friendly host. If you wanna see Acadia Nationalpark, it's quite a drive but a beautiful one. The spot is stunning and the apartment is very comfortable.

    Hannes2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was peaceful and comfortable here! We weren't quite sure what "apartment" meant in context but it was as we hoped - the downstairs of a quite secluded house near the water. Quiet and wonderful. Nice decor, warm welcome, and very attentive hosts. It's relatively close to Bar Harbour and other destinations nearby though we mostly stuck close to home. The Co-op in Blue Hill was a great place for lunch, coffee, and health food. We cooked most of our meals and the kitchen was great for this. We unfortunately had to bring some work with us and the wifi was much appreciated. We were able to get stuff done and still have plenty of relaxing time. I had knee surgery and was on crutches, the place was accessible for me and the shower was perfect - not all airbnb listings in Maine are so :) Lastly, just a side note - t-mobile does not have data coverage out here (or in most of Maine it seems.) We accidentally used our data roaming allotment on the road and were out of luck for the week. Another thumbs up for the wifi. We did have text/voice on our phones. Overall, highly recommended!

    Emilie2017-07-29T00:00:00Z

Private Apartment at 7 Cabin Cove

Hi, Welcome to Brooklin, ME! Brooklin is a sleepy little seaside hamlet on the coast of Down East Maine. Our cottage is a small summer camp that sits on the shore overlooking Eggemoggin Reach. If dates looked booked, email us anyway as dates remain fluid. CLOSED FOR THE WINTER. AVAILABLE, STARTING JUNE 2018
Down East Maine -Blue Hill Peninsula Our quaint and rustic little cottage has one master bedroom, 1 bathroom with a small shower, and a sleeping loft - accessible by ladder, with a queen size futon and one twin bed. There is also a front sun room with a futon couch that can fold out into a full size bed; however, the sun room is best used as a sitting room so that all can love and enjoy the fresh sea breeze and sun that fills the room. The cottage is ideal for a couple, but if you are traveling with more people, particularlly children, they can use the loft - they'll love it. The country kitchen is stocked with plenty of dishes, pots and pans - everything you need to make a good meal and blueberry pie. Our living-room is very cozy with a sofa, 2 large chairs and the stately stone fireplace and yes, we've actually had fires built in the cool mornings and evenings in July. We also have a flat-screen television with plenty of dvd and old vhs movies but we do not have any cable TV or Wi-Fi at the cottage. There are plenty of board games, puzzles and reading materials as well. Off from the living room is a sunroom with windows surrounding the entire room. A view from these windows is nothing but the beautiful ocean scene of Eggemoggin Reach. We keep these windows open wide during the day for the magnificent and refreshing ocean breeze coming into the cottage, plus also hearing the water lapping on the shore. To prevent moisture from coming in at night, we generally close them almost shut at night. The sunroom has a futon sofa where sometimes I find my husband taking his afternoon naps. Above the living-room and behind the stone fireplace is a small sleeping loft. It's the perfect sleeping spot for children and teens. We've even had adults sleeping in the loft as well but you do need to climb a ladder to get up there. The bathroom comes with a very small walk-in shower. The grounds are what sold us when we purchased the property. The cottage itself is poised on a scenic bluff. It sits about 50 feet from the rocky beach. Other surroundings around the cottage consists of open grass yard, flower gardens, a small vegetable garden (help yourself to the vegetables), woods, blueberry bushes, and a small wooden old bridge that leads down a path to Blue Ledge (our kids call it "big rock"). When the tide is high (and only at it’s high peak), sometimes kids (and adults), can’t resists jumping from Blue Ledge into the water. This is a small, quintessential old Maine coastal summer cottage built in the early 1960's by a local stone mason from Blue Hill. The cottage faces west and enjoys sweeping views of Eggemoggin Reach - one of Down East Maine's most beautiful saltwater sailing channels. We can see the Deer Isle suspension bridge in the distance. During the season, we often see windjammers sailing up and down the reach between East Penobscot Bay and Jericho Bay. The sunsets are just magnificent as you look up the Reach toward the Deer Island suspension bridge and the Camden Hills. Our cottage is perfect for a couple or small family. The cottage is relatively small, about 600 square feet. For those visiting in the fall, we have stone fireplace and small wood burning stove for heat. The cottage is accessed via private road access and has a private beach with mooring. There are kayaks on the property but for liability reasons, we prefer that you rent them from the Activity Shoppe in Blue Hill. There are a couple of mountain bikes you can use if you wish. You may have to pump up the tires and use the bikes at your own risk. Our cottage is located in the scenic seaside village of Brooklin, Maine which bills itself as "the wooden boat building capital of the world!" Brooklin is in the heart of Down East Maine and is located on the bottom tip of the Blue Hill Peninsula. The area is home to a diverse and somewhat eclectic mix of artists, tradesman, fisherman, boat builders, writers, and organic growers -both local and from "away." Brooklin is NOT a tourist area and being on the bottom tip of the peninsula, it's a bit remote. We are far from all the traffic and noise of Route 1. It’s a beautiful, peaceful relatively remote setting - ideal for artists, writers or those just looking to get away from the city. You will need a car to get around and explore. The seaside towns of Brooksville, Stonington, Deer Isle, Sedgwick, and Castine are nearby and the town of Blue Hill (pop. of about 2200) is about a 15 to 20 minute drive away. We are about a 40 minute drive from Ellsworth which is the gateway city to Acadia and Mount Dessert. Wooden Boat Magazine is headquartered here, as is the Wooden Boat School that is a few miles up the road on Naskeag's Point. The Haystack Mountain School of Art is also a few miles away on Deer Island. The area has tremendous view and "light" for plein air artists and there are many painters in the area. Brooklin enjoys a bit of literary renown as it was where E.B. White lived and penned his famous children's book Charlotte's Web. Several other contemporary writers call this area their home too. For the hearty, and during the middle of the summer, there is ocean swimming at our cottage. There are also several fresh water lakes and ponds nearby. Walker Point, a 7 mile long fresh water pond is only a few miles away and offers public access to swimming and a boat launch. Hiking up Blue Hill "mountain" for the magnificent views is a must. The area is a nature-lovers delight. We often see eagles, osprey, loons and harbor seals. We rent by the week during the summer months of July and August, but may consider shorter stays. Please contact us to inquire. During the months of June, September and October, we require a minimum of a three night stay. PLEASE NOTE: As you can see by the photographs, this is a small, simple, unadorned summer cottage or "camp" as they are called in Maine. It is not a "house" by any means. It’s very cozy. The water to the cottage comes from a local fresh-water spring. Linens: Unfortunately, laundry service up there is not very reliable so to ensure you have a comfortable stay, we typically ask guests who are driving their own car, to bring their own sheets and towels. (Queen sheets will cover the queen bed in the master bedroom, queen/full size sheets and twin size sheets will cover the beds in the loft). I'm happy to answer any additional questions you might have. Cheers!
This is about as quintessential a Maine seaside village as you get. Beautiful vistas, wooden boats, fresh organic foods/gardens, writers, artisians, craftsman, etc. As you drive down Blue Ledge Lane towards our cottage, you will see a couple other homes that consists of locals. Other then that, our property is pretty much secluded.
  • The location and setting of Jack and Joanna's cottage is fantastic, perched on a hill overlooking Eggenoggin Reach over to Deer Isle. Would give it an A+. A private beach full of Blue Mussel shells at low tide. Adirondack chairs are perfectly placed to enjoy the views. The cottage is rustic and charming. We used the beautiful stone fireplace mornings and evenings during our stay in October. Plenty of firewood was provided. Attractive rugs were placed throughout the cottage on the hardwood floors to add coziness. Kitchen is well equipped with the exception of a dishwasher. No television reception which we were okay with. Router worked well for excellent internet reception. Would love to have had a washer and dryer. Bathroom shower is very tiny. Bed is comfortable and living room furniture also. We would stay here again as we loved the quiet and beauty of Brooklin and the rustic charm of the cottage and its amazing views.

  • We are recently returned from our stay at the Brooklin Waterfront Cottage, but in truth we are still there. The cottage was delightfully cozy and comfortable and we immediately felt at home. It is well equipped with all the essentials you might need for a Maine coast cottage retreat. We cooked up a fantastic lobster dinner right out back on the outdoor fireplace/grill. On the sunnier days we enjoyed sitting in the Adirondack chairs looking out over the water, or climbing up the huge rock ledge for a better view. We only regret not having the weather to enjoy splashing down off that rock into the ocean! :-) And on quiet evenings the shelves were a treasure of great books for mom and dad, and fun games for the kids. My eldest son won out over his mom for the cozy futon on the sleeping porch. And my youngest loved the loft ~ it became the perfect "kid cave" during our stay. We didn't fare so badly at all with the main bedroom and its sliding glass doors with a view of the Reach. The location, right on Eggemoggin Reach, was absolutely beautiful, and it is close enough to nearby places to explore, such as Blue Hill and Acadia National Park. So even though our short stay included a few rainy and cloudy days, we still had a wonderful, memorable time. Guests to this cottage will find the owner, Jack, to be a fantastic host. We were given such a wealth of information about places to visit and play, galleries to explore, and a variety of venues to enjoy great food in the area that it was like having a personal guide. This helped us to discover some new ways to have a marvelous time in Brooklin, even though we had visited there several times before. All of this helped us feel very much at home, and more like guests of a friend, than simply another renter. We really cannot wait to return!

  • Our stay at the Brooklin Waterfront Cottage was delightful. Located right on the water, it was the perfect location for an east coast adventure for two west coasters. It had all the amenities we were looking for to make a very cozy stay. Located close to many different attractions, we visited Acadia National Park, Campobello International Park, and many of the historic towns and sites all located close by. Great food, great sites, great time! We would definitely stay again.

    Wendy2013-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • For a rustic Maine coastal experience, this little gem has everything - tiny shower, limited septic tank, lots of mosquitoes, beautiful sunsets, quaint wood stove, fireplace and lots and lots of vintage DVDs to watch huddled together on a chilly evening. Don't miss the chance to use the outdoor lobster pot setup, and you can steam clams too, for a great New England dinner. Jack was right there (by email or phone) to provide tips and instructions, so you never feel lost.

    Robert2013-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic spot! The cabin is far enough away from the Acadia crowds to feel laid back and secluded, yet still close enough to explore all Downeast Maine has to offer. The cabin is right on the water and has amazing views and even a nice little beach at low tide. Inside, the place is homey and comfortable. Jack gave us great ideas for places to eat and things to do while in the area--in fact, we followed his advice and bought lobster straight off a boat in Stonington for a lobster boil on the beach our last night. If I get back to this part of the country--and I definitely hope to--I'd stay at this cabin again in a heartbeat.

  • This was a perfect romantic getaway for my boyfriend and I! The cottage was clean and quaint. Jack also left a book with suggestions that we utilized quite a bit during our stay at the cottage. The only issue was the lack of Wi-Fi. Jack emailed us warning there was none but when we arrived the Wi-Fi was available but with a password. It was very frustrating trying to get service on our smart phones for directions in a little to no service area and not being allowed to access the wifi that was advertised on the cottages page. Besides for that we had a lovely stay and had a wonderful time in Maine in October.

  • Jack's cottage had everything we wanted for our long autumn weekend away. It was rustic and secluded enough to make us feel like we were really away, but it also had all the amenities we wanted, e.g., radio, DVD player, tons of great movies. The outdoor spaces and views are fantastic, but even with an entirely rained-out day, we felt very happy to hang inside. We started up a fire in the wood-burning stove, baked gingerbread, read books (Jack has an extensive library in the cabin), played games, and watched movies. Our kids enjoyed the sleeping loft, even with some arguing over who would get the big bed. If you have very young kids, the sleeping loft could be stressful since there is quite a drop from the top landing. To prevent our daughter from waking up in the dark and trying to navigate the ladder disoriented, we set a chair up there to block her from the edge. The fact that there is a tv and DVD player up in the loft gives kids their own spot to hang out and watch a movie. Even though the cabin is small, it felt like there were plenty of places to spread out. Our older daughter painted a watercolor out in the sunroom with the water view. We cooked several meals here because it does feel like a far drive to go out to eat. We brought groceries and had all the tools we needed to make pancakes, pasta, eggs, salad, microwave popcorn, tea, etc. They have wine glasses too. We had a very enjoyable stay and hope to return.

    Sarah2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Jack's place. It is literally steps away from the water, and the property actually has sizable beach at low tide and a nice rocky cliff short at high tide. The sunset view is amazing and beyond what words can describe. The area is very quiet, away from the tourists at Acadia. There are several pretty little towns nearby: Brooklin, Blue Hills, and Stonington are all very enjoyable. We had a wonderful time there. Inside this cute little cottage, there is a full kitchen and a spacious living room. The separate bedroom is cozy and has a wonderful view of the water. The porch is a nice place to spend a lazy afternoon, again with a wonderful view. Jack is very responsive to our inquiries and provide a wealth of information about the property and the surrounding areas.

Relax on the deck, enjoy the the boat traffic passing by or explore on the beach from the private dock. Explore Acadia National Park for the day within an hour drive. • Location ad back deck view was outstanding! Had a great three day stay! Host were helpful! A good place to see sights!

  • We loved the view and the quiet. Jillian and Brian were gracious and welcoming. We hope to return!

    Debbie2017-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Low Tide Cottage was perfect for our long weekend getaway in Maine. The place had a great rustic cabin feel but still had all of the amenities we needed. Jillian was very nice and came by our first day to make sure we had everything we needed. The cottage was ideally located right on the water with great views of the bay out of the large windows. The two bedrooms were perfect for our family of four and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook a nice breakfast or dinner. We took a day trip to Acadia/Bar Harbor which was only about and hour drive. We would definitely recommend the Low Tide Cottage to anyone looking for a nice private getaway along the coast of Maine.

    Matthew2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin has great views of a very pretty harbor! The yard is huge and perfect for a vacation with the kids. The beds are okay but after four nights I was looking forward to our motel bed at the airport. My BFF and I found it more rustic than we were expecting.

Charming rustic artist cottage with exuberant gardens, honeybees, and private back yard. Sunny deck, outdoor hot shower, walking distance to the beach. Vibrant summer community.
Charming artist cottage near Eggemoggin Reach in Sargentville Maine. 2 plus bedrooms, 1 bath, plus an outdoor shower, country kitchen and cozy living room. The cottage is nestled amidst exuberant organic gardens and lush surroundings. Shady front porch and private rear deck with picnic table, charcoal bbq. Quiet downeast village location. Close enough to Acadia for daytrips, but without the manic crowds. Also convenient to Wooden Boat School, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Stonington and Blue Hill's vibrant artsy summer communities. Walk down to a small public beach on Eggemioggin Reach and watch the windjammers parade by. Get the idyll Maine coast experience without the crowds. The cottage is my home and comes fully furnished, including linens and kitchen items, books, games, and home made furniture, and funky art. In ths peak season I vacate the house and live on my boat. After labor day, guests may use 1 bedroom. Bring your bikes and kayaks. Great restaurants and heaps of art galleries in the area. Summer music series at Blue Hill's Kneisel Hall.
lots of outdoor activities. Lots of water access. vibrant summer arts and gardening communities
  • I stayed at Aeolus cottege over the Labor Day weekend for a friends wedding just up the road. My husband and our friend had a wonderful stay! The home is lovely and cozy. Debrae was very welcoming. We enjoyed the gardens, outdoor shower and relaxed environment. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Lindsey 2014-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • My family of four really enjoyed our time at Debrae's. We had a week of relaxation and bonding and were very refreshed after being without cable TV, internet and phone service for our trip (we have T-Mobile)! I do wish we brought some VHS tapes, though, as we rarely get use out of them anymore. The space was a good size for the four of us, and the kitchen easy to use and well-stocked with the basics (oil, spices, pots and pans, even makings for hot chocolate). Debrae was also kind enough to leave us with some home-grown vegetables from her garden in the yard. The outdoor shower was delightful! Though a bit far from Acadia (I think we clocked around 90 minutes to the park, out-of-towners we are), the cottage is very close to Deer Isle. The tiny welcome center is no more than ten minutes away, and the people there directed us to some fabulous attractions. A low-tide hike to Barred Island and the narrative sculpture park at Nervous Nellie's were highlights. We tend to veg out while on vacation, but ended up staying pretty busy exploring. There is an abundance of art galleries and antiques shops in the area, but we found that at the prices they were hawking, we were better off window shopping. There were fun independent book stores, though: the teeny tiny Pushcart Press Bookstore in Sedgwick run by the founder of the Pushcart Prize (good selection of used books), and a gorgeous one called Blue Hill Books. The nearest large grocery store is in Blue Hill, which is very well stocked but can be a bit pricey. In early August, it was cool in the evening and hot in the sun, lots of mosquitoes at dusk. We would definitely recommend staying here! Debrae's cottage has lots of character and is close enough to touristy stuff, but still remote enough to give you peace and quiet.

    Emi2013-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage and location. You will get a great coastal Maine experience staying here. Debrae loaded me up with veggies from her garden and great local advice.

    donald2013-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • debrae was great, quite helpful with info, her place is quite charming.

    Joe2012-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Debrae's cottage very much. She greeted us upon arriving, gave us a quick tour and answered questions about the cottage and the local area. We found the cottage to be just as it was shown/described and it was a peaceful experience to live somewhat "off the grid". The gardens surrounding the cottage were beautiful and we took full advantage of the outdoor shower! We enjoyed exploring the local area and also used the cottage as a base to explore Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. That was a bit more of a drive than we thought due to the summer traffic, but the cottage was a quiet oasis to return to each night.

    Valerie2016-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a delightful stay at Aeolus Cottage. We were expecting a casual, comfortable place and found it here. Debrae was gracious, made certain we had settled in well, and then left us to enjoy her home for five days. The home is the kind of place your grandma grew up in: clawfoot tub, slate sink, creaky wooden floors, mixed linens and mis-matched dishware. Solar heated hot water system that never left us cold, even late at night. And a deep front porch where you can enjoy the breeze. Private enough for an outdoor shower, lovely cottage gardens from which Debrae shared her produce, and everything you need to live well, if simply. Sargeantville is a tiny place with a gas station/convenience store, library with wifi, and mexican restaurant. Walk to a small public beach. Equally convenient to Stonington, Blue Hill, and Castine where you can get the quintessential Maine Harbor front experience. We recommend her sweet home highly for anyone looking to disconnect from the conventional. Brent & Diana

  • Aeolus is a beautiful cottage with delightful, creative touches of sustainability and artisan crafts, near the bridge to Deer Isle. Lovely gardens and woods surround. We did not meet Debrae directly but she was great in communicating with us and all was even better than we could have expected.

    Prescott2012-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Aeolis Cottage. Very comfortable and peaceful place in a great location on the Blue Hill peninsula. Highlights were the amazing garden and bountiful harvest, a cool porch swing (great for younger kids), and the outdoor shower. Lots to do in the local area - Deer Isle, Blue Hill, great swimming at Walker's Pond, etc. Debrae was a fantastic host - generous, helpful, and knowledgeable about pretty much everything you need to have a great stay.

  • If you're ever in Brooklin, ME for some reason, stay here! Anne was an excellent Airbnb host. She clearly can provide privacy or friendliness, whichever you may be in the mood for. Anne and Brent's home is beautiful and on the water. My bedroom and bathroom were spotless. The bed was very, very comfortable. Wifi worked perfectly. All instructions were clear. We had a good time chatting about how they ended up in Brooklin, and Anne showed me their Morgan sports car. Parking was simple. I walked down onto their dock on the water. There are stairs to the bedroom.

  • Brent and Ann were LOVELY hosts. Their home was beautiful and in a gorgeous setting. The room was very spacious and clean. Very nice people- I would definitely stay here again!

  • This part of Maine has always been, in my mind, a little piece of heaven. This Airbnb room was a lovely spot to enjoy it all from, with a view of the water and a special, quiet stillness except for the night frogs and morning birds which only added to the ambiance. This is a wonderful escape, far from the madding crowd, but there are nice little places for breakfast, lunch and dinner within a 15 minute or so drive. Just such a great spot. Brent and Anne made us feel welcome in their beautiful home. The bed was soooo comfortable, the bathroom was clean and well equipped, and the host and hostess were welcoming and relaxed. I highly recommend staying here (except if I want to book it at the same time, which is possible since we’re already planning a return trip)! Kidding aside, you can’t go wrong with such a beautiful location and gracious hosts.

    Luanne2015-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • The room was just as described only larger with a nice area to sit in a comfortable chair to read next to a window overlooking an amazing view over the water. Brent and Anne greeted me with a cup of tea and we had an interesting conversation. Simply beautiful place to stay. Anne and Brent had a supply of menus and local travel information in the room for their guests. Would love to stay there again.

  • Anne and Brent are delightful: balancing being welcoming , friendly and sharing their knowledge of the area's offerings with giving us space and privacy. The location is great to take advantage of both Deer Isle and Blue Hill events, restaurants, hikes and biking. Next year we are bringing our Kayaks!

  • When trying a new travel experience, as my husband were doing for our first Airbnb stay, many questions arose for us. Would the accommodations be as expected? Would they be clean and in a nice setting? Would the hosts be friendly but not too friendly? What an unexpected surprise! Brent and Anne couldn't have been more accommodating and gracious. The room, with attached bathroom and generous sitting area, was immaculate and very spacious and did I mention the setting! This is a beautiful setting in Maine with amazing water views. This is coastal Maine at its best. The location of Anne and Brent's beautiful home is idyllic and accessible to many wonderful areas to explore. Getting to know Anne and Brent, who were very welcoming, friendly and accommodating, was an unexpected pleasure. Thank you Anne and Brent!

  • Brent and Anne were delightful, friendly and welcoming hosts. The couple warmly welcomed us with a nice glass of wine in the porch upon our arrival :) Brent even called in to make a reservation for us at the Brooklin Inn for a late dinner that night, which we really enjoyed. The room was very comfortable and spotless with an en suite bathroom; the house is just simply beautiful and peaceful, with gorgeous views of the Benjamin River. Watching the sunset on the dock (short walk away) was a priceless experience. Thanks for making our Maine vacation a memorable one! - Julia and Umberto

  • A great location for exploring the peninsula and surrounding area. We were married here so we were somewhat familiar with the various towns and to-dos. Do plan to eat out (which can be a bit tricky for all your meals if you stay more than a day or two) as there is no access to a kitchen. If you're a light sleeper you'll want to bring some earplugs, too. These hosts have a fine bit of Maine coast. Thanks for sharing!

Unique property overlooking Blue Hill bay. The two bedroom waterside apartment has two sided views of gardens and glimpses of the bay. Close to the famous Falls bridge and Salt Pond; ten minutes to Blue Hill. Near public wharf; Great restaurants in Blue Hill, a Co-op, art galleries and wonderful public library. Property is unique as a former 15,000 sq ft hen house, then a radio station, and the former recording studio of Noel Paul Stookey of Peter Paul and Mary. Blue Hill Peninsula is stunning
The rustling of the trees and views of wild life and Blue Hill Bay make the Hen House unique in the area. Just driving here on Falls Bridge Road is a treat. Original art and antiques in the apartment and entrance way. Cable TV and internet are readily available as well.
  • Very spacious, clean rooms with lovely views. Main room is very comfortable to relax in and watch TV or read. The wild turkeys wandering across the property were fun to watch.

  • The home is clean and has an artful and educated vibe to it. Artwork and literature make it feel lived in. The beds are extremely comfortable, and it was two great nights of rest with the windows producing a cool September breeze off Blue Hill bay. Gregory is an educated and travelled man, who brims with helpfulness and kindness. I would absolutely recommend a stay at Gregory's place and a slow and thorough enjoyment of the neat villages on Blue Hill and the beautiful scenery.

  • The Henhouse was just charming. It was surrounded by the loveliest scenery you can imagine, and so many little coastal towns just a short beautiful scenic drive away, yet it felt off the beaten path. Gregory responded quickly to any inquiries, loaned us an Atlas to find our way around, and offered an informative sheet of some of the are's highlights. He also left us some lovely Blueberry Muffins made with local Maine Berries and other essentials in the kitchen. The apartment was comfortable and clean, the views of the Bay were gorgeous and the beds were also extremely comfortable. The views of dark starry night sky and the summer Milky Way were just icing on the cake. I would definitely come back again.

  • Sean's place was a lovely little spot super convenient to Blue Hill proper and all of the adventures the area provides.

  • Sean's place is beautiful, well-stocked, comfortable, and fun. The pigs are hilarious. The beds are comfy. The view is lovely. The games make for great nighttimes. The access to the outdoors is perfect for day hikes or whatever your heart desires. Sean was so hospitable and easy to get in touch with. He was respectful of our privacy but also sociable. This was a lovely three day stay - couldn't have asked for anything more!

  • This is the perfect combination. First, the chic modern cabin is beautifully built with exposed beams and generous windows that allow nature in even while you enjoy a meal in the well supplied kitchen. The cabin is appointed with high quality selections; from towels, to wool blankets, to bedding, to furnishings, and more. This cabin is truly out of the pages of a magazine. Secondly, Sean is an incredible host. He was quick to assist us with excellent tips about Blue Hill and the surrounding area. The cabin is located on a working farm and Sean was glad to accommodate our desire to see the farm and learn about its workings. You could not ask for a more respectful, helpful, responsive host. We had a wonderful time visiting the area and Sean's cabin was the perfect retreat.

  • This was a beautiful and restful home, above and beyond what we expected. Sean communicated promptly with me before and during our stay, he gave us complete privacy during our visit but was there for any questions we had. The cottage was gorgeous and we would love to visit again.

    Silvia2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Sean's cottage is great: clean, newly-furnished and well equipped with anything you could possibly need for a great vacation with family or friends. Sean's also a welcoming host who's always there to help. We'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who's planning to visit this area.

  • I felt so lucky to arrange a getaway to Maine for a whole week and so pleased that Lori's space was available. She's made some nice improvements since I was here in the spring! I really like the option to prepare some of my own meals. I got my groceries at the Blue Hill Farmer's Market Saturday morning and really made the most of the simple but well equipped kitchen. I didn't see much of Lori as she seems to work all the time but she did make time to give me a ukulele lesson. I had never played anything before. Now I am planning to get a ukulele! (There was a uke in the room for guests, which got me playing around a bit.) There were some simple breakfast items, like Ezekiel raisin bread in the freezer, almond butter, coffee and organic half and half and some amazing apples from her tree. Just right for my first breakfast before getting my groceries for the week. The location is right on the main road so there is some road noise, as others have noted. It didn't bother me, although I did run the fan at night, which probably helped. Overall I feel this place is a bargain. Hope to come back next year!

  • Lori is awesome and very kind and helpful. The room is nice and has all that I needed. I enjoyed my time on Deer Isle very much.

    Lesley2015-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Lori's place. Lori was very welcoming and left us fresh garden veggies, food from the store, and some beers for after our long journey. Thanks Lori!

  • Lori's studio is a wonderful and fun place to stay during your trip to Deer Isle. The space is extremely well thought out and functional. The studio feels spacious and cozy at the same time. Lori was also a fantastic host. She offered us fresh fruit upon our arrival and gave us tons of tips on places to visit during our stay. We would absolutely love to stay here on our next visit to Deer Isle.

    Erika2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great room. Precisely what Lori advertises. Clean, pleasant, basic, comfortable.

    Andres2016-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Just what I was looking for; a quiet place to relax and get some work done. Conveniently located near the freshwater Lilly Pond, Deer Isle and Stonington. There's not much in terms of night life, but again I just wanted some space, peace and quiet. Kitchen was very well equipped, bed was comfortable and all the "neighbors" were kind, friendly and welcoming. Lori was kind enough to invite me down to sit by the fire and made me feel very welcome.

    Christopher2016-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lori is an Airbnb pro, and her studio reflects that. It's a very comfortable space..including the futon, to relax, cook and chill out. Her home is on a nice property in Deer Isle and fairly close to the port town of Stonington, where you can get fresh lobster from the fisherman. Lots of restaurants and galleries to explore there. Deer Isle/Stonington have wonderful hikes and beaches/ponds to explore. I highly recommend staying at Lori's place for a relaxing time and a wonderful host!

  • A perfect home away from home, really liked a small kitchen setup and comfortable bed!. Not too far from Acadia National park.. would highly recommend .. Lori takes care of every little things and makes it easier for the guest..

Nineteenth-century farmhouse backed by a two acre meadow that leads down to 200 feet of private shoreline on a salt water cove. Very quiet location, no other houses within sight of this one. House has charm and well-stocked book shelves.
This charming old farm house is filled with books and comfortable places to sit and relax after exploring the island. Wander in the meadow, take the canoe out or grab a permit at town hall and try your hand at clamming in the cove.
Quiet and beautiful! Just down the street from Nervous Nellies Jam's & Jellies where you can enjoy scones and an amazing sculpture garden.
  • My husband , 2 children & I stayed at Rachael and Seth's farmhouse for 2 weeks. We look forward to returning again & again. In short, we unplugged & relaxed in a stunning environment. The house was charming & easy to navigate. I had one question about logistics, which Rachael answered immediately when I contacted her. We only wished that we could stay for two more weeks. Some highlights: *Watching our boys run free & explore while we sipped coffee or cocktails on the deck/porch *Cooking fresh lobster/fish just about every night (kitchen has everything you could need!) *Reading, playing cards & listening to records in the barn *Canoeing with a picnic to a nearby island *Taking the ferry to the Isle of Haut *Watching a comedy act at the Opera House *Swimming at Lily Pond (huge highlight for the boys!) *Hiking the trails at Crockett's Cove and Barred Island *Hanging out at Nervous Nellie's while the boys played in the woods & 'village' *Touring Haystack School of Crafts...the tour was interesting and unexpectedly interactive *Buying greens, cheese, yogurt, honey, eggs & bread (Tinder Hearth) at Yellow Birch Farm *Eating woodfired pizza and ice cream sandwiches at Tinder Hearth in nearby Brooksville Deer Isle is magical & this farmhouse was the perfect place for us to get to know it. • We so loved our week in Maine at Rachel and Seth's sweet little place. We found the kitchen very well equipped, which is important to us since we do a lot of our own cooking when we travel. One highlight of our trip was canoeing to one of the little islands (be sure to pay attention to both the tide and the wind when heading out!) and watching the seals sun themselves on the rocks and the bald eagles fly overhead. We also very much enjoyed getting lobsters down the road at Jones Lobster, taking a day trip to Acadia, blueberry picking at Cooper Farm at Blueberry Hill, the Stonington Farmer's Market, and going to see a comedy show at the Opera House (what a GREAT place!). Our five year old daughter loved the fun buoy swing out back, the sweet kids' room, and visiting Buck's Harbor to see where on of her very favorite children's books (One Morning in Maine) took place. Rachel and Seth have the house loaded with great books (including lots of wonderful children's books), and we passed a lot of time just laying around snacking and reading. We would definitely return.

    amanda2015-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • my friends and i loved the home because it was located on a quiet road and it has a fantastic barn and it is just a classic old home with good light close to both Stonington and Blue Hill.

  • This was a wonderful place to spend a week. My husband and I wanted to get away - to quiet and natural beauty - and we couldn't have asked for a better place. The location of the house on beautiful Deer Isle, near nature preserves, art galleries and not too far from Blue Hill peninsula made it possible for us to explore effortlessly. The house itself is simply adorned, has most anything you'd need, and is full of great books. We loved cooking our meals in the sweet little kitchen. But perhaps best of all was the canoe, a must to explore the calm cove that is visible from the house's deck.

    Jessica2014-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Seth and Rachael's house is an amazing place to spend some time. The cove it sits on is beautiful with its still waters, light ocean breezes, and wooded surroundings. The house itself is very comfortable. Also, Rachael very responsive and helpful.

    Keith2015-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Rachael and Seth's beautiful home! Rachael was super responsive and helpful, and we absolutely loved the location right on the water. Be sure to bring an inflatable pool raft for the tidal cove!

    Tore2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Rachael and Seth are great hosts! The farmhouse and barn are beautiful. Perfect for a quiet retreat. Our favorite part of our vacation was the cove the house is on. We saw otters and eagles on a beautiful canoe ride. We were so grateful to get to bring our dog on vacation with us as well. He loved swimming in the cove in the mornings and warming up by the fire in the afternoons. The town of Deer Isle has some great spots to check out as well. 44 North is perfect for coffee and fresh pastries. The Night Market is another great spot that has local produce and goods. We got delicious local potatoes, bread, greens, and mushrooms. Such a great vacation we cant wait to visit again!

    Brendan2017-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • The beautiful meadow stretching away to the water. The view from the decking changing with the tide. Our own canoe to explore the sheltered cove. A fire under the stars, to toast marshmallows and watch the fireflies dance… There weren't so many photos or reviews of this place, but we chose by instinct. It proved absolutely right. Yes, the house could do with a lick of paint here and there, but it has loads of charm, and is free of pseudo-Victorian frills or bland pine panelling. It’s well equipped, and was spacious for our family of four. And it makes a great base to explore this unusual, quirky island with its beautiful tidal landscape. Our hosts were incredibly helpful. They were quick to respond and went to a lot of trouble to sort out any minor problem we had. Many thanks for a great stay and happy holiday memories!

  • This is an amazing Maine home tucked back in the woods and on the ocean. The house is large and very well equipped. We enjoyed the nicely appointed bathrooms, the big airy bedrooms, the living room with built in window seats. The screened in porch, back deck, and boat house were all great spots to relax. We cooked a lot in the kitchen which had everything we needed. We brought lots of food but also found the nearby farm and farmers market great for fresh veggies, bread, and eggs. Bert was a great host and we hope to return.

  • We hosted a beautiful getaway Columbus Day weekend with 8 close friends of ours. The house and property were a dream. We had every convenience we needed to truly feel at home during our stay. There was enough space for everyone to take quiet time if needed and beautiful common areas to gather and enjoy each other's company. My favorite room was the kitchen! We all love to cook so we were more than impressed with the modern "cadillac's" of appliances. We also took some time to explore the town a bit, which was lovely. We will definitely be booking again in the future! Thank you Bert!

Brooklin Maine offers a quiet retreat within an hour drive of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. A close walk from The Maine Hideaway's doorstop brings you into the historic village of Brooklin Maine a short walk to the Wooden Boat School Campus. You will love our place because of the comfy bed and historic building.
This delightful bright, airy room is for a couple with a king sized bed and just steps from a shared hallway bathroom. We have plush cotton towel and super comfy all white cotton sheets. This room rate includes a hot made to order breakfast. It also has a large antique dresser and a sitting area with a reading lamp.

This place is definetely set up with guests in mind with soft thick towels and comforter, nicely painted rooms, it's a beautiful house, the host family is very kind, the location was very enjoyable, and the breakfast was outstanding. They even hosted the local Farmers Market right in their home so we got to go. I would stay here again and I will definitely recommend it to others.

The front bedroom in my house, It has a lovely brand new full bed. There is a bathroom for you to use privately. There is a TV with Netflicks, Desk & Chair, wee coffee machine. Old fashioned style! I welcome pets in the Suite but this room is off limits for dogs.
The beach down the hill, peace and quiet which is great for a writer or painter. We are well located for sightseeing in the Deer Isle and Acadia National Park areas. You can swing in the hammock, read on the porch swing or go for a stroll. There is no crime here and it is very safe.
Tranquilas, puestas de sol magnífico, fácil localización para recorrer Acadia, Blue Hill, Almiar, Stonington, Isla Au Haut, y sólo un lugar para desconectar y descansar.
  • Annie's place was perfect for my wife and I. We chose it due to its close location to the stonington docks for our trip to Isle au Haut. She communicated very well with helpful recommendations and tips. She even bought some camping fuel for us and kept it until we arrived! We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Luke2017-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Annie was amazing to work with. She was flexible and easy to communicate with. We are very grateful!! I would highly recommend this beautiful home!

  • Very comfortable accommodations in a lovely Victorian in pristine condition. My wife and I had a great time talking with Annie, who was very friendly and informative. Highly recommended!

  • Maplehurst is a wonderful place and Annie and David made my time there a fantastic experience. I arrived a bit late, but she met me at the door and made me feel welcome immediately. The beautiful Red Room was most enjoyable and quite comfortable, and the availability of food options for breakfast was outstanding. I spent every morning having my coffee on the beautiful wrap-around porch, which was one of the most relaxing experienced I've had in a long time. I highly recommend staying at this beautiful place. I promise you won't be disappointed and you'll go away cherishing the memories of how life should be.

  • Annie has everything you need for a wonderful stay! Wish I had more time to spend w her!:)

    Heather2017-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had a wonderful 2 night stay in the red room. The house and room are just as advertised. It has been in Annie's family for 5 generations and has all of the charm and quirks you'd expect from such an old house. The red room was tidy and clean with a very comfy double bed, soft sheets and pillows, a TV set up with Netflix, a mini fridge, and nice darkly shaded and screened windows that we opened at night to let the cool breeze in. Annie pays a lot of attention to detail and is a great communicator, making check in a breeze and helping to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We had our own bathroom just upstairs from the bedroom, and it was clean and stocked with fresh clean towels and basic toilitires like shampoo, conditioner, bars of soap, etc. The provided breakfast (which you prepare yourself) was delicious with tons of options, hot or cold, and Annie even texted before we arrived to ask if we had any specific requests. She has several parrots which have all been rescued from bad situations, and they all stay in the same room on the first floor - they were beautiful and didn't bother us one bit - you occasionally hear them making nice noise during the day but we never heard them at night and slept very restfully. It's located about an hour drive to Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor, half hour to the quaint and hostorical town town of Elsworth, and half hour to Castine, where we did a really neat guided night time kayak trip to see the unique biolumenescent plankton and beautiful starry sky. Overall a great value and wonderful B and B for for a weekend exploring coastal Maine!

    Dan2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This was probably our most enjoyable AirBnB experience to date! Annie communicated with us by text message before we arrived and asked us if there was anything special we needed for our arrival. When we arrived at Maplehurst we were blown away by both her and her son's hospitality, and also the beautiful home. Annie had a floor to ceiling stocked kitchen, and even the bedroom had provisions....including whoopie pies! It was too hard for us to decide what to eat in the morning because of all the choices. The house itself is stunning. An old manor house with multiple rooms, nooks, and even a viewing tower (where we had coffee one morning). Annie has gone to great lengths to decorate the house with artifacts from the era. We even got to see her wonderful parrots. There is quite a bit to see on the peninsula and the surrounding islands, but one could also just relax at Maplehurst and have a perfectly fulfilling getaway. I highly recommend staying here to anyone touring the Maine coast or en route to Acadia. It was the perfect stop over!

    Brent2017-07-08T00:00:00Z

Take a break from a hectic world in our new, bright, and cozy apartment on Little Deer Isle. Enjoy the rocky coast of Downeast Maine with amazing ocean views, quiet spaces, and nature trails. Our apartment is centrally located to Acadia National Park, Camden, Belfast, Stonington, and Bar Harbor.
Hawthorne Point is a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. The space has gorgeous natural light and sweet ocean views. The living space at Hawthorne Point has an open concept with the kitchen, living and dining areas all in one space. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped to cook most any meal (lobster pot included). There is a dining table with four settings in which to enjoy your meals. The living area offers a full-size sofa, as well as, a HDTV with Dish Network satellite service. The home has a good wireless internet connection for guests to stay connected while in residence. The entry area of the apartment also features a laundry area, with a stackable washer and dryer.  The bedroom has a queen bed, night stands, dresser and a nice size closet. The sofa in the living area is a queen sleeper and could accommodate additional guests.  Step outside the sliding glass doors to enjoy your morning cup of coffee on the balcony that overlooks the Eggemoggin Reach, with views of Stave Island, about 200 yards off shore, and the mainland. Later stroll down to the shore to launch your kayak or to experience the rise and fall of our 11+ foot tides. This is our second year on Airbnb and the summer rental market. Last year we used a third party to manage the apartment for us and unfortunately, we could not carry over the many positive comments we had from our guests. Here are just a few examples: “Lovely scenery, clean accommodation, and in a quiet setting. Lovely hosts…” “The place was in very good condition and had everything we needed for our stay (full kitchen, bathroom supplies, etc.). The host was very accommodating and provided us with information about kayak rentals in the area and about where to put them in nearby. Overall a good experience, thank you!” “…Words can't express how gracious the hosts were. The house was wonderful as well. Appliances and furniture were immaculate. The level of preparation for this home was evidently high. If coming here to go to Acadia National Park, it's an hour drive away (so, not too far). …” Hawthorne Point is a clean, smoke-free and inviting space on the scenic Maine coastline. Come and relax a while at Hawthorne Point.
Little Deer Isle is a 1 mile by 3 mile island located just offshore from the mainland. It is connected to the mainland by a half mile suspension bridge and also by a causeway to Deer Isle, a much larger island with the classic NE village of Stonington.

  • Nate's place was very comfortable and quiet and relaxing. It's a bit of a drive to Acadia, but not bad, and is definitely in a good location for exploring other small coastal towns. Nate was a good resource for things to do and places to see in the area.

    Betsy2017-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • What an idyllic location and charming home! Nate’s place makes for a perfect getaway - we were close enough for gorgeous hiking in Acadia, but far enough away to rest and relax (away from crowds)! Nate is great to chat with and his dog Milo is adorable!

    Amy2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • In a very quiet rural area away from the crowds in Bar Harbor. It is a decent drive to Acadia, while GPS originally told me just over an hour, it ended up being closer to 2 (at least right now due to road work). There are a couple of restaurants in a near by town (Blue Hill) along with a coffee place, a Dunkin Donuts, and a Rite Aid (possibly more, but that is what I noticed). Nate is friendly and lives in an attached apartment so he is around if you need anything. Quiet neighborhood (besides some dog barking) but you can hear every step made in the other apartment (original flooring, which is charming, but very creaky). If Nate has guests in his home, which he happened to have during my visit you are able to hear their conversation (etc) and I'm not sure what he can hear over on his side. The studio is spacious with a large sitting area that looks just as cute it does in the photos. The kitchen is apartment sized with a small fridge and stove/oven. There is no microwave, but there are pots and pans. The shower seems to be attached to the original claw foot tub. It is smaller than standard and has a wrap around shower curtain that kept sticking to is when trying to shower. I think this is important to note if you're a large person the shower isn't ideal. It is also very high and requires you to be physically able to step in (no problem for the average person, but might be difficult under certain circumstances). After the first shower in the place I decided to take down the remable shower head to prevent that and also to keep the water from leaking through the shower curtain which isn't fully lined with plastic. He has some helpful pamphlets, maps, and manus hanging on cork board behind the kitchen table, which was helpful! The wifi was great being that I didn't have service in the area. It was reliable and average speed.

    Melissa2017-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Nate's place was very nice. It was larger than we expected and even nicer than the pictures would indicate. Nate himself was very nice and hospitable and told us about places to go in the area. He also gave us a lot of privacy and space which we appreciated. We would love to come back some time!

    Mike2017-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Nate's place is absolutely wonderful. Peace and quiet, water in view, beautiful country, super comfortable place with all you need. Nate is a wonderful host and his dog, Milo, is sweet as can be.

  • Sedgwick is a lovely quiet community, a great place to stay in. We appreciated the distance from other tourists, but the corollary is that it's a decent drive to "anything to do". The house was clean, comfortable, and Nate was very helpful.

    Jordan2017-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • The location of the cottage felt very quiet and remote which is what we were looking for. The tides going in and out all day were great to watch. Nate was friendly, and we loved Milo the Dog too. Just a couple things to note-- the fridge is not full-size so we weren't able to put all our food in it, we had to keep some out in the cooler. Also, the shower is small. Not for the claustrophobic! They fit with the small studio though. One thing that was missing was dish towels. On the whole, the kitchen was well-stocked, the setting was amazing, and Nate was great. We would absolutely go back.

    Catherine2017-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the space! Nate provided helpful info and was easy to communicate with. Will come back if we have another chance!

The Cottage at Clay Forms Pottery, 1 loft BR, full kitchen/LR/DR is tucked away a mile off the main road on the shores of the Bagaduce River, a pristine tidal estuary of the Penobscot Bay -- artfully decorated on 8 acres of spruce and pine woods.
The Cottage is on the property of Clay Forms Pottery where its proprietors Richard and Melody reside in the main house. A screened-in porch for outdoor dining and relaxation was completed June 1, 2015 and is a delight to relax in for many meals. The hand built 500+ sq.ft guest house is artfully and colorfully decorated open design. The bedroom is up a beautiful spiral staircase. The living room has a new sleep sofa. New refridgerator and microwave. Four burner gas kitchen stove and oven. On- demand Bosch water heater for limitless hot water and a Rennai heater in a fully insulated SIPS panel built guest house to keep you warm on cool nights.
Located on the Blue Hill Peninsula, the Bagaduce River is a precious gem. It is the home to bald eagles, osprey, kingfishers, blue herons, horseshoe crabs, striped bass, alewives, otters, minks, and an occasional seal. It's a gorgeous spot for easy kayaking (bring water shoes) or just laying on a hammock by the shore with a good book. There are many lovely walks and bike rides nearby as well as throughout the Blue Hill Peninsula. We particularly love to walk a boreal fog forest at The Nature Conservancy’s Barred Island Trail on Deer Isle or climb Blue Hill Mountain to view the vistas of Blue Hill Bay and the mountains of Acadia National Park. A recent addition by the Blue Hill Heritage Trust is the Bluff Head trail just a mile from our door. Gorgeous views of the Bagaduce River. We also love visiting the beautiful fishing village of Stonington to have a lobster at one of the several restaurants or to take a few home to steam while experiencing a Bagaduce sunset like never before.
  • In one word ~MAGIC~! Can I give 6 stars?!! The cottage was perfectly clean and breathtakingly charming all on a quiet, private road. Melody and Dick were warm and welcoming to say the least, and were always available for questions about local goings-on. Furnished completely for cooking, eating, and relaxing. No live TV, but that soon became an unexpected treat ~ to unplug like that from the constant barrage of "news." It really calms your soul to pull back like that ~ amazing. There is a really nice eclectic library of DVDs and a small flatscreen for those nights you just want to zone out. There is a newly finished screened-in porch on the right side of the cottage now. We spent every morning and many evenings in the quiet surroundings on that porch, listening to beautiful birds from Wood Thrush's to Goldfinch's to Eastern Phoebes calling out. Even heard a few Loons haunting around on the Bagaduce River. Magic! This part of Maine still has the original life-on-the-water feel without being completely isolated and the views are simply stunning ~ some harken back to the Lord of the Rings! The area is thick with art, and you can almost feel the creative spirit in the air. You can find local artists and galleries even on the back, dirt roads as well as organic markets and craft fairs about every day of the week located somewhere on the peninsula. Everyone we met was friendly and this is a perfect "jumping out" point to Acadia Park, or about an hour hop over to Camden, Belfast, or Bangor. On our trip to Bangor, Dick recommended an older Italian restaurant that we never would have stopped at on our own. Homemade pasta and absolutely tasty sauces were fantastic and unexpected. Another night, we were privileged to be at a local restaurant where Bonny Raitt's brother, David sat on a stool and played with a local bassist about 6' from our table! His redo's of some 60's classics were superb. This stuff happens here all the time :) This kind of local info is priceless for hidden gems and all you need to do is ask Dick or Melody. They seem to have a second sense of the goings on around the peninsula. We actually felt a sense of loss as our 2 week stay was ending. Felt like leaving friends behind and the pull here is so strong for us creative types . . . Your stay here will be nothing but joy if you favor art, nature, good fresh food, and simply relaxing. Who doesn't want that? PS. Plenty of kayaks and other sports rentals if you favor that too ~ Did I mention the local fresh lobster . . . caught that morning? I could go on and on!!! Heartfelt thanks to Dick and Melody ;) In the immortal paraphrased words of that one movie ~ "We will be back!!"

  • Melody and Richard were warm and welcoming. All of our needs were met and then some. This secluded little cottage is in an idyllic setting, perfect for inspiring the artistically minded. I wish I could share with you the sense of peace I got sitting on the rocks and watching the horseshoe crabs and other creatures in the crystal clear water. The cabin is clean, cozy and charming. It is a lovely reflection of the owners artistic bent. It is also very conveniently located to Acadia. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time to enjoy it. Thank you so much.

  • A really nice getaway on the Bagaduce River. Excellent value and perfect location for exploring all that Deer Isle and the Blue Hill Peninsula have to offer. Convenient for visiting Acadia. Also nice for relaxing by the river and having meals. Well equipped and spacious cottage with everything we needed to enjoy a four day trip. The perfect Coastal Maine experience

    Joe2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • A bottle of wine and fresh flowers greeted us on arrival, as well as our gracious and engaging hosts Melody and Dick. Everything and more than expected ! (Wi-fi recently added). The fun and cultural decor added to the light-filled, cozy cottage. The setting is idyllically remote and quiet for relaxing, after exploring the peninsula on foot or kayak or by car. The central location was ideal for our day-tripping and exploring and then coming back home with the days' bounty from one of the daily farmers' markets and preparing our meals in the well equipped kitchen, then enjoying it on the screened -in porch listening to the trees and "birds of the day".

    Cheryl2016-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was delightful - very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. Melody had even left us butter and milk for coffee and gave us some of her currant blueberry jam as we were leaving. Their property is lovely and the spot to relax down by the river was so peaceful. The cottage was also well-located, and it was easy to get to a number of different spots from there. Would love to come back again someday.

    Laura2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very quiet, comfortable and well-appointed woodland retreat. There us a sleeping loft, very nice kitchen with all utensils and appliances provided. It is very clean, neat, and well-designed cabin. We loved the location, not far from Deer Island and Ilse au Haut. Many opportunities for hiking and kayaking.

    Douglas2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place to relax, be away from the hustle of life and to just be. We encourage you visit this glorious place... I really find it difficult to even begin to put into words how relaxing and beautiful this place is that Melody and Dick shared with us. They made us feel welcome and were very helpful in answering any questions about the area. There is not doubt we will revisit. We left refreshed and feeling so blessed, by them and the beauty of our surroundings. If you are looking for a place to relax... again...We say visit!

    John2016-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Melody's cabin is most beautifully appointed, immaculately clean, and contains all of the amenities one could ask for, as well as being situated in a quiet and lovely location, with a clean, safe and swimmable river located right behind the cabin. There is much to do in the area, which includes Blue Hill, Deer Isle, and Stonington, and it is less than an hour from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Our hosts were very responsive to our needs and provided extremely helpful information regarding restaurants and activities in the area.

This Brooklin shorefront gem offers breathtaking coastal views from a peaceful, tree-surrounded spot. Airy, light-filled, 2014-built house has modern design and conveniences. Area has restaurants, art galleries, Wooden Boat School, and chamber music.
The house has a screened-in porch facing sunset. The open kitchen/dining/living area has vaulted ceilings, windows on each side, sliding patio doors to the porch, and a circular window above to create abundant natural light. A spiral staircase under a skylight leads to the loft upstairs, which has a bedroom, reading and play area. Very well insulated, it doesn't get very hot or cold, but for chilly nights there are electric base heaters in the kitchen/living area, a built-in wall heater in the bathroom as well as heated towel racks, and electric heaters in the bedrooms. For ventilation, there two windows in the master bedroom, three in the kids' room, a ceiling fan in the living area and an opening skylight above the spiral staircase leading to the loft. We have a propane gas grill, picnic table and a hammock. The office has a desk, inkjet printer, land line telephone with long distance service included, music stand and electric keyboard. The kitchen is fully equipped and the dining table has two leaves to accommodate a meal for 10. In the living area, there is a stereo with surround-sound speakers, with a usb port for playing music from your phone. An 800' driveway sets the house back from the road, which is nice for kids playing outside. We also have a wooden high chair for babies with a removable tray that we can set up if you request it before your stay. There are plenty of sheets, towels, bath towels, and blankets.
Brooklin is the home of traditional wooden boat making and draws people interested in sailing. The area has wonderful hiking, art galleries, restaurants, a chamber music festival, and fun things for kids like swimming, miniature golf, kayaking, boat rides, and exploring the many passageways of the 19th century-Fort Knox in Bucksport with flashlights on a rainy day.
  • We had a great week at this amazing cottage. It was clean and the beach area was great. It is one of the best rentals we have stayed at in the past 10 years of visiting Maine yearly. We loved exploring the beach for sea creatures and sea glass and the cottage was very clean and comfortably fit our family of 5. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants a peaceful getaway in Maine.

  • Amelia was great to deal with. She has made a lovely, warm, and open home that she has kindly shared with the rest of us. The location is perfect to disconnect with the world and find family and nature. The house was light and airy and just as pictured. Our young children enjoyed the loft, the beach and the outdoor shower. We spent every morning looking for new treasures, wildlife, and the tiniest crabs we could. Amelia had everything we needed to make homemade meals and everything was easy to find. The kids even enjoyed using the tiny dishwasher. So many great little things. We are already trying to figure out when we can go back.

    John2016-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amelia's home is tucked into a gorgeous cove on Eggamogin Reach. It's all quite perfect - the thoughtfully designed home, the yard, lovely landscaping and veggie garden, screened porch, hammock, and picnic table under old growth trees with the perfect view of the water - we spent our two weeks here in a delightful trance. One of the unique things about the property is the stretch of soft sand beach right out front that reveals itself at low tide... Rare on the Maine coast. The home is a quick drive from the center of the tiny town of Brooklin and its general store, and about 20 minutes drive along a gorgeous coastal road from the bigger town of Blue Hill (grocery store, shopping, etc). A peaceful and enchanting spot.

  • Amelia's cottage is lovely - quiet and very scenic location right on the water, beautifully designed and furnished, very comfortable and bright. Very private too. A great place to spend some quiet time by the shore, and also a good base from which to explore the area. Communications with Amelia were easy and friendly. She was very responsive. Highly recommend!

  • The house was the right size, very well maintained, had a great view and the location was perfect for our time in the Brooklin area.

  • My wife and I met our friends and their 3 year old son for a week at Amelia's place. It was a great place. It was clean and fully loaded with whatever you could need, even for the kid. We really felt at home. Great yard and beach. Some good places to eat not too far away. Amelia made it easy to check in and out. We had a great time. Very relaxing. Thanks Amelia

A 200-year-old historic Maine homestead with water views, complete with modern amenities and tons of charm, located in a village 10 miles from Blue Hill and one hour from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The house is available for wedding groups, extended family vacations, and retreats.
The Anchorage was built in 1812 by Samuel Billings, the son of one of the Blue Hill Peninsula's original land grant settlers. Billings was a master carpenter by trade, and the Anchorage is widely regarded as his greatest achievement. Among its notable features are the original central chimney, wide-plank flooring, hand-painted fireplaces, diamond-paned windows with leaded glass, and gothic arches. From the late nineteenth century until just a few years ago, the Anchorage belonged to two friendly Pennsylvania families who summered on the Blue Hill Peninsula. The property passed from one family to the other in the 1920s. The second family is responsible for adding the west wing master suite, the rambling north wing--known as "the Estemere"--and some of the most fanciful bathrooms you will ever see. The Anchorage was much loved and cared for during their 90-year tenure, and their artistic and eclectic touches truly make it a magical place. THE LAYOUT In addition to the living room, a formal dining room with seating for 10-12 people, a child's play area, and a kitchen, the Anchorage has six bedrooms located in four distinct zones. 1. The west wing suite, perfect for families with children, has a large master bedroom with a queen and toddler bed and an attached bathroom. There is an additional small bedroom with a double bed. Both bedrooms open into the playroom, and the suite has its own separate entrance. 2. Two upstairs bedrooms share a sink and toilet. These are my favorite bedrooms in the house; they have beautiful southern exposure and great views of Eggemoggin Reach. One room has a double bed, and the other contains two twins. 3. The east, or "blue," wing bedroom, with its painted double bedstead, has a screened door that opens on to a private porch. This wing has the only full bathroom in the house, with a clawfoot tub, a separate shower, and painted wall murals. 4. The Estemere, located at the rear of the house, contains a large double bedroom with a sink. Outside the room is another sink, a fabulous shower, and the "Throne" -- a toilet you access via a short flight of stairs. This is a great spot for a couple who wants privacy from the rest of the group. It has not one, but two separate entrances. The property is available for weekly rental (Saturday to Saturday) during the summer months of July and August; from Labor until Columbus Day, there is a 3-day minimum. ** NEW FOR 2017 ** By popular request, I have replaced the stove. There is now a television/DVD in the Chart room (the study off the formal dining room), which I am gradually turning into a children's playroom. There's a selection of children's books, games, toys, and movies.
Sargentville, Maine is a quiet, friendly village midway between Deer Island and Blue Hill. We're lucky to have a very popular Mexican restaurant that can be accessed through a path in the woods behind the house. The property is within one mile of the scenic overlook at Caterpillar Hill, a driving range, a gas station and general store (with soft serve ice cream and five dollar pizza!), and the Mariner's Pub. There is a public boat landing in Sedgwick, a seven minute drive. It takes just 15 minutes to get to Blue Hill, with its shops and restaurants. Acadia National Park and the picturesque town of Belfast are both an hour away.
  • Valerie met me on arrival. She was laid back and welcoming. The house was an old, rustic, rambling one. The stovetop was tempremental, but the kitchen necessities were in place. Valerie even left our group some fantastic coffee and wine. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spread out throughout the house. This worked well for our group of singles and one couple. All the bedrooms were freshly made-up for us. Also, lots of fresh towels were available. Finally, the laundry facilities worked well. The property the house sits on is woodsy; however, it is light and airy around the house. The surrounding area is quintessential coastal Maine.

    Tim2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • What a special spot! We came with some extended family for a mini-reunion in the ancestral homeland of Sargentville. The Anchorage is a great, unique property that was just right for us. It had plenty of comfortable, unfussy charm. The toddler bed was a useful and thoughtful touch for those with kids--and it's a great property for kids, with endless rooms to explore, a big yard area, game room, nature trail and BLUEBERRIES to pick! Plus, it is thankfully free of knickknacks for little ones to break. Now, is the paint peeling and the plaster cracking? Yes--the property is over 100 years old and settling on its foundation. And yes, some of the bathrooms are weird (but functional!). But it was neat as a pin when we arrived, and has a fairly well-stocked kitchen to boot (measuring cups, baking dishes, corkscrew, and a separate electric pancake griddle, in addition to the obligatory lobster pot). Laundry machines as well. It is also walkable to one wadeable beach (chock full of mussel shells and periwinkles) and one pretty good Mexican place. Easy drive to Deer Isle and Blue Hill. Visit all the places from "Blueberries for Sal" and "One Morning in Maine"! Pro tip - the blueberries are on the other side of the tree blowdown. Cross the granite "bridge" through the stump and make an immediate left through the three pine trees. You'll see the trail pick up again to the right.

  • Valerie was incredibly responsive and so helpful and accommodating when we realized we had too many guests for the house we were renting. The house is full of character and in a great location. We loved our stay.

    Sabrina2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Valerie was very responsive to questions and concerns. When we arrived it was late in the night and dark and we couldn't locate the place. We called Valerie and she helped us find the house. The house was built in the 1800s and much of it is still pristine. The stove is a little cranky but the rest of the utilities worked fine. The house is very big and ideal for large families. What we liked the most was the location. It is convenient to not only Acadia but other places like Deer Island, Castine, etc. Because this is a fairly rural place without the city lights and pollution, the night sky was wonderful - we could even see the milky way! However, please note that there aren't many restaurants or stores nearby and most stores close by 9pm.

    Rahul2016-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was reminiscent of what life used to be back in the days - a 200 year old home with the feel of a bygone era. Valerie was on top of communications - we could reach out to her anytime and she promptly took care of things. We unfortunately had a rainy cold fall weekend and needed space heaters. Valerie quickly arranged that. Hot water in one of the bathrooms was not working and that also was quickly fixed. Keeping in mind its a 200 year old house, we were prepared. A pleasant surprise was a smart TV with all apps - kids loved it:)

  • We had a delightful stay at Valerie's house in Maine. The home is loaded with antique charm and old New England charm. It was just a short trip to the waterfront, and we also enjoyed hiking in the woods behind the house. Overall a great place for a family vacation!

    Michael2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This house has so much charm and history. It's old, but so cool and highly functional! It was so fun for our children to run around and explore all the many nooks and crannies. We loved the huge front porch the best and had our morning coffee out there every day and looked at the harbor view. Valerie was great. She was extremely prompt with any questions we had and gave great local perspective about places we could visit while staying in Maine. Would recommend this house for sure!

    Kirsten2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Valerie's place is a large and rambling house in a spectacular location. While there were minor issues with some things gone missing and the wifi and the stove, all were resolved and the caretaker and Valerie were responsive . I like the space for my artist group, and the porches were so great.

  • For two weeks in August 2013, my husband and I vacationed at this Sedgwick Maine home owned by Shannon & Louis Johnson. While we had never lived in the area, the house and area felt as if we had come home. Not only was everything we might need at hand, but the furnishings, layout and grounds made the ambiance totally relaxing. The water views and the breezes that flowed through the numerous screened windows added to our comfort. Our dog felt right at home and used the enormous lawn to run and play frisbee, he never even noticed the wild turkeys and deer who made daily visits. The house was close to Deer Isle, Castine, Blue Hill and about an hour from Bar Harbor. In short, Louis and Shannon have provided any guest with a golden opportunity to enjoy the Down East experience. We hope to return to Sedgwick on future vacations and would be very happy to have the opportunity to return to this rental. Thank you Shannon and Louis.

    Susan2013-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I - all 3 generations - plus our dog had a fantastic time at Shannon's place. The house is really cute and comfortable, making us feel completely at home. My son is vegan so we cooked every day in the well equipped kitchen. The best feature of the property is the deck where we congregated each morning; our dog loved lying in the sun! The second best was the huge field in the back of the house. We would definitely go back there again.

    Sanghamitra2016-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Shannon's home was peaceful, comfortable, and provided a beautiful summer retreat. With beautiful views of the Benjamin River cove along with the occasional fox and turkey lurking in the field, you couldn't ask for a better place to stay in Sedgwick or a better host.

    Betsy2016-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Shannon was responded quickly to all my requests. The home was comfortable upstairs in the main living area. There was a beautiful view of the water, but unfortunately no access to it. My fiancé enjoyed the wild turkeys and red foxes he saw. Beautiful area that provided much peace and restfulness.

    Nancy 2016-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed watching the wild turkeys fly into the field every morning and the water view was scenic. The mosquitoes however were relentless - night and day, so we couldn't enjoy much of the deck or outside space.

There is limited internet (Bandwidth limits it to email and web surfing ONLY) but no cable TV, shocking but true! Cell phones work well in the area and the house has plenty of movies for rainy days. There are 3 bedrooms. A master with a queen bed. One bedroom has two twins and the third has another queen. There are two bathrooms, each with a shower, no tub in the house. There is a washer and dryer. We have added an outdoor shower, great for after beach days. • What a wonderful place to slow down time in this hectic world. The view from the deck of the pond beyond the fields was a calming stimulus to the senses, and the open shower was as fresh as the breeze. There was ample room for two families to merge and enjoy what the surroundings had to offer. The stove/oven alone provided a wonderful photo op for the nostalgic years past. A bottle of Sow's Ear Wine from the vintner across the street is well worth the visit to meet the local color and enjoy on the porch while watching the day disappear as the sun goes down. I so hope we have another opportunity to visit one day. Thank you Peter and family.

  • We had a great time at Peter's farmhouse. The house was clean and as pictured. Brooksville has fantastic hikes and day trips in every direction. Peter was quick and easy to communicate with and had a helpful list of local restaurants and sites to visit during the stay.

    Matthew2016-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the location and home. It was beautiful as described and we would definitely return. Thanks so much!

    Julie2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time. Peter's house is a handsome old Maine farmhouse, set in the middle of plenty of green, and in sight of a big pond with access about five minutes away. Our children were able to revisit the wonderful places they spent time in when they were kids, and they were able to show their own kids and husbands some of the many charms of Maine. My grandchildren had a wonderful time playing on the trees and ropes swings, and exploring ponds and tidal pools. Bring some bug spray and a kayak! It's Maine!

  • House with a character : This house took us to our great grand old days. The house, instruments, books, movies all complemented each other. The location was perfect overseeing a fantastic lake with great view. We enjoyed the magnificent drives, lobster grill, burn fires & morning tea on patio overlooking the lake.Me and my family had a great time.

    prat2014-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • The farmhouse was very comfortable, peaceful and relaxing. Exactly as described. We would definitely stay there again.

    Shade2016-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The house had everything we needed and the location was ideal for us, close to our family who we were visiting. We heard loons on Walker Pond every morning. The water view from the sitting room and the front bedroom was great. I hope we can come back sometime.

    Bob2016-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great six days at Peter's house. The location was perfect. Beautiful view of meadows and Walker Pond and it is easy to get around to local sites, Deer Island and groceries and other necessities on the Blue Hill Peninsula. This is a great property for kids -- there was room for everyone and there is fabulous outdoor space including nice lawn, swing in the barn, tree swings, fire pit, and amazing deck for hanging out. We especially loved the outdoor shower! The house had the relaxing vibe we were looking for!

This upstairs bedroom is self-sufficient and comfortable with a double bed, its own private bathroom and a large, private area with a balcony overlooking the ocean . The house is right on the water, with a beautiful garden, very restful and central to Acadia National Park, whale watching, sailing, kayaking, tennis, golf, lobster, good restaurants and clams to be dug and enjoyed.
My house is located on 4 acres of landscaped property on the sea coast of Downeast Maine (40 minutes from Acadia National Park). The house includes 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and guests can rent the whole house or a single bedroom with private bathroom. They also have access to the kitchen, dining room, living room, and upstairs video screening room with a deck overlooking the ocean. This is an exquisitely beautiful, rural part of Maine (between Camden and Bar Harbor) that very few people know about. It is superb for sailing, kayaking, hiking, fishing, tennis, golf, whale watching, antiquing, art galleries, you name it. I am a landscape designer and also grow many of my own vegetables. There are many flowers in the garden for picking and decorating the house. An ideal location for painters, photographers, writers - anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
The entire Blue Hill Peninsula is a gem of tranquillity and beauty -- one of the prettiest parts of the seacoast in Maine. Lots of artists, potters, writers, musicians, etc. live here so there is lots going on during the summer.
  • Julie was a wonderful host, who made us feel very welcome and cooked up wonderful breakfast of omelettes and toast for us in the morning. Her home and the grounds surrounding them are even more beautiful than they appear in the pictures. She is in a very special part of Maine. We wished we could have stayed longer.

    Larry2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house was incredible, the view the decorations, everything was very will chosen and organized. Julie was a great host and very generous, we had a very nice time.

  • We loved our stay here. Julie was a great host and the house and property are beautiful. We enjoyed a delicious home cooked breakfast every morning and felt welcomed coming back here each night. Julie was also very gracious with our dog Sampson.

  • What a lovely trip to Brooklin, and Julie's house was absolutely perfect. A beautiful home, with gorgeous water views, a quick drive to town (where we had a fabulous dinner at The Brooklin Inn). Julie made us a delicious breakfast, where we had time to share stories and experiences. We couldn't have felt more comfortable sharing space with Julie.

    Lauren2016-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Julie's home was great! She was an excellent hostess and we felt very comfortable. We stayed in the upstairs bedroom, it was very nice. She made a lovely breakfast for us both mornings we were there, and offered us coffee or tea both nights! It was a very restful and relaxing weekend.

  • Julie made us feel very welcome and was a fabulous host in a wonderful setting and location. Great conversations over a glass of wine. Very helpful suggestions about what we might enjoy in the surrounding area. Would thoroughly recommend a stay at her lovely home.

  • Living here is a dream of mine. Julie warmly greeted us along with her furry friends after a long drive up from Lincoln MA. The house was nicely appointed with everything you could need including breakfast. It was amazing!!! The breakfast alone was worth getting out of bed for, but our conversations and fine wine made the evening even more special. Memories you will never forget and views that will put keep you awed sunrise through sunset. Love and laughter in Brooklin! Who could ask for anything more.

    Liza2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a spectacular home (varied gardens and unrestricted views of the bay), in a wonderful location (near Acadia NP) and with a magnificent host (insightful and lovely). Julie made us a delicious and hardy breakfast. She walked us around her secluded property which had so many charming features. Wish we could have spent more time at Julie's "coastal Maine gardener's paradise".

Katy's Seaside Cottage is a quaint & cozy 2 bedroom cottage, with ocean views. It has a beautiful deck/gazebo where you can sit and watch boats pass by. Enjoy free public access to the ocean anytime with a short walk from the property, a great place to kayak or swim. In the Fall enjoy the fall foliage and great hikes on the island or in neighboring areas including Acadia. Come Winter there is great cross-country skiing at the local golf course and snowshoeing in the neighborhood.
Katy's Seaside Cottage is a quaint & cozy 2 bedroom cottage, kitchen stocked with dishes, pots and pans, living room with sliding glass door out to large deck with attached gazebo, 1 bath with walk in shower, bed linens, blankets and towels. Washing machine and clothesline. Cottage on a quiet dead end street, on 1 acre of land with lots of open grass. Approximately 300 ft. to a small cove with rocky beach that opens up to a number of small islands. This is a wonderful spot from which to go kayaking or Stand Up Paddle boarding. This is also a great home base for fall and winter adventures as it is easy to get off the island as well as enjoy all that the island has to offer! There is an obstructed view of the ocean from the house and gazebo but an amazing view from the comfort of two chairs in the yard. Wireless Internet and free long distance phone service within the US is available. The renter will receive the cottage in a clean and satisfactory condition and agrees to leave it in the same condition. Rental fees (including 8% Maine tax) $875 per week. Rentals run from check in day at 3:00 until the check out morning at 10:00. There is a $50 cleaning fee, although it is expected that the cottage is left in a satisfactory condition. Please ask if you have a pet you would like to bring, but please no cats because I have an allergy.
The neighborhood is quiet and the few neighbors I do have are locals. There are only a few other houses in the immediate area that rent. Many of my neighbors are fishermen and leave very early in the morning and go to bed early in the evening. There are also some retired couples in the area and some seasonal residents. You can see the ocean in two directions from the top of the road at the corner of the property. Very pretty and you will be able to hear a passing lobster fishing boat from time to time.
  • We had the pleasure of staying at Katy's cottage for 4 nights in June/July. This was our first trip to Deer Isle and we couldn't have chosen a better place for our getaway. The cottage was very pretty; the colours were lovely and it truly had the 'beachy' feel to it. The furnishings were very comfortable and well put together. The owner had some personal items/decor throughout the house, which made it feel more cozy. The kitchen was well stocked (coffee maker - and filters!), dish soap, dishes, corkscrew, linens etc. We did not have to worry about forgetting anything as it was all there. Throughout the booking process, and up to our visit, the owner was very helpful in recommending local activities/restaurants, and was very quick to respond to any of our questions. The cottage was well prepared for our arrival. The cottage was just a quick walk to the beach, and it was nice to be located near other villages and towns. The cottage had 2 large bedrooms, lovely deck and gazebo. It had a BBQ (which we did not use) but was nice to have available.I highly recommend staying at the cottage. It was a lovely place to stay and we will be back!

  • My three friends and our dogs and I had a wonderful time at Katy's Seaside Cottage. Everything was spotless, light-filled, and lovely. Katy even took the time to arrange some fresh wildflowers for us throughout the cottage. Katy and her family live just below the cottage in a beautiful home, and they were great neighbors. Katy brought us over some delicious crabs to eat with our lobster dinner one night; what a treat! She respected our privacy but was 100% available and helpful when we had a question. The cottage is sweet and comfortable, and the area is peaceful, though a bit isolated. Do your grocery shopping in bulk to avoid having to run out and get milk, in other words! Everything was just as we expected (perhaps with the exception of the gazebo blocking the view shown in the pictures) and we are very satisfied with our first Airbnb experience. Thanks, Katy!

  • Quiet location, all amenities provided. Beautiful view, (minus the gazebo). Short walk to the beach. Very comfortable house, good wifi

  • Katy's cottage was just right. Exactly the quiet getaway my husband and I wanted. We traveled several days from the cottage up to Acadia and enjoyed local suggestions given in the guest book. We would absolutely stay again.

  • We went for a week-long vacation in October. Katy's Cottage was a wonderful get-away in a beautiful, rural location. A very nice grocery store was 15 minutes away that had everything (and more) that we wanted. Had a lovely day-trip to Stonington with beautiful views and lookouts around every bend. Acadia was a pleasant drive from Deer Isle. Katy's Cottage was very clean and had everything that we needed for our stay with a picturesque sunset every night. Very large main bedroom and a smaller, but nice, second bedroom. The bathroom was small but had a large shower. Sitting on the expansive deck under the gazebo was a delightful way to spend the morning. We would definitely stay here again! Highly recommend future vacationers to check out Nervous Nellie's Jams and Jellies. We had to go back a second time!

  • Short walk to two beautiful ocean coves (short = 3 minute walk)! Perfect sized place for our family of 4. Katy was very easy to work with. We loved Maine and found this a great home base. We did two lobster cook-outs on the lovely deck and found the kitchen just perfect for breakfast. Outings were a breeze from the cottage... - Kayak adventures 10 minutes away - Two great little towns right next door - Foraging for mussels a 2 minute drive - 1 hour drive to Acadia park In addition, the cottage / location was super homey and inspired us to hang around and relax.

You'll love the high ceilings and the coziness of our family house. The oceanfront property offers filtered views on Fish Creek. Our property has beach/ water access on Fish Creek and Gray Cove. Enjoy the views from the screened gazebo. Great place for bird watching. Bedrooms: 1 w/ 1 queen, 1 w/ 2 twins, 1 w/ a queen downstairs. Upstairs:One bedroom with a queen bed +a den, with mattresses (sleeps 2-3). The living room has a queen airbed (sleeps 2) where we put 4 kids ( 2 on mattresses) easily.
The house, first smaller, was then added a second part. The living room, dining room and family room are positioned on the water side of the home, all with ample windows and/or doors, accessing the back deck running along half length of the back side of the property. Although oceanfront, the trees protect us from wind and gives us privacy but we still get glimpses of the sea view. The high ceiling in the living room/ dining room area gives a light and airy feel, with built-in seating providing an added resting spot. On the front portion of the downstairs, are the kitchen and the half bath. A small bedroom (full size bed) overlooks the garden and has a direct access to the deck. This room is also our computer room, even though there is Wi-Fi that will allow you to connect elsewhere in the house. A newer addition to the house offers two more spacious bedrooms (1 queen, 2 full), a bathroom and a living room with a fireplace. The living room could be used as an extra bedroom and has a queen air bed. The stairs lead to an upstairs den (with several mattresses for added sleeping if needed) as well as to the master bedroom, bathroom. The house has hardwood flooring and tiles throughout. Outside there are generous decks and plenty of seating as well as a screened gazebo where the beautiful views can be enjoyed with your morning coffee or evening cocktails.
Oak Point boasts a very pretty setting, with lush green lawns and woods surrounding the home. Excellent beach area for launching kayaks; watch sunsets or play with the kids.
  • It was a great 2-days stay for us. Even though the weather weren't great, we still enjoy our trip in Acadia National Park. The house is really comfy and cozy with everything that you might need during your stay. :)

  • My family and I (a group of 10) spent Thanksgiving on the coast at Naomi's place. It was perfect! Spacious, well-equipped, clean, and views don't get better. The grounds were well manicured and access to the beach and apple trees provided unlimited hours of entertainment for all of us (ages 2 - 92). It's a gorgeous spot to take in the coast and enjoy 'the way life should be.'

  • This warm and inviting vacation home is the perfect place to unwind on a family vacation. The setting is ideal with water frontage on both sides of the expansive property, perfect for launching the kayaks we rented for the week. The area was full of wildlife, as we saw eagles, deer, jellyfish, seals and other fauna. We found the location private and peaceful. The house itself was well stocked with all the necessary kitchen and dining ware for our family of eight. Beds, linens and towels were all of good quality and comfortable. The "yard" is a perfect mix of decks, lawn, trees, wild flowers, meadow a Deer Isle is not your typical haunt for tourists. The people, towns, farms, shops, restaurants and beaches warmly invite you to share in small town, island life on their terms; experiencing the relative peace and tranquility as it truly (URL HIDDEN) not some commercially contrived tourist trap as many coastal areas have become. That being said, the sidewalks typically roll up between 8 & 9 pm, but that's OK, it's part of the charm. We explored the island to its limits and took a road trip to Acadia National Park (1hr 20mins), which is always worth the trip. Naomi was a pleasure to deal with. The process of reserving, renting and staying at this terrific place is streamlined and friendly. Thanks!

  • This is truly a special house for those that seek peace and quiet with close driving proximity (1-2 hrs) to destinations such as Stonington, Castine, Acadia, Camden, and Jonesport. We stayed for 10 days and felt completely relaxed and restored by the time we left. Naomi was consistently prompt and thorough with our emailed questions. Highly recommended!

  • My friends and I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful house for the Memorial day weekend! The house is very clean, quiet and cozy. The house is also well equipped with all basic household supplies, just pack your own cloths and you are set. It has a beautiful lake view and the premises is surrounded by trees that gives plenty of privacy. The house is a perfect choice for family or friends gathering if you are looking for a quiet area on an island! Naomi was a wonderful host, she doesn't live nearby but she is very responsive with the phone, answered all questions quickly. She does have a caretaker for the house who lives in nearby, so you would have plenty of help when you needed help. Highly recommend!

Half a mile from Blue Hill village, Captain's House is near restaurants, the beach, family-friendly activities & nightlife. You’ll love this house for the brand new fabrics, the post & beams, the sea captain objects d'art, the privacy of the yard, the comforts of home & neighboring towns & rural countryside that offer so much to do. Brand new, the house has three bedrooms, each with King, two of which are Masters, and there's a Full-bed on the landing outside the main master. 2.5 Bathrooms.
When I have a house . . . as I sometime may . . . It'll suit my fancy in every way. I'll fill it with things that have caught my eye In drifting from Iceland to Molokai. This poem, Vagabond's House, by Don Blanding inspired my niece Christie Long to decorate her 2014-built, brand new, unlived-in house as an eclectic sea captain's house, and the kitchen is inspired by her love of cooking. Christie has been collecting shells for years, and she has put her shell collection in the glass coffee tables and lamps in the living room. The shapes of the hand-carved whales on the walls are inspired by several Atlantic sailing crossings. As they are mammals and live in the ocean, it makes them a fascinating creature. The collection of fabrics and textures are of interest to Christie's mother, Libby Nicholson, as she loves to sew. The paintings of the old ships are inspired by our family's yacht chartering business, which made its start in Antigua, West Indies at Nelson's Dockyard, where British Ships of the Line refitted during hurricane season in the 1790s. There's quite a pineapple theme going on at the Sea Captain's house.... In the olden days, pineapples were a symbol of welcome and friendship among sea captains from Maine to Bangkok, as sea merchants traded for pineapples to bring home. These pineapples have been a real inspiration to Christie over the years; her mother named her Bed and Breakfast in the Caribbean 'Pineapple House.' Christie's Sea Captain's House in Blue Hill is two houses, connected by a breezeway. The idea behind the design is to live on one side and have a jewelry studio in the other. It is a wonderful house for two families, as each house offers a luxurious, downstairs living room and privacy. It's also a great house for two people, as there is only one bedroom, a master bedroom, above the main house.... For couples with small children, there is a landing with Full-sized bed located just outside of the master bedroom above the main house. Families can also sleep in the "second" house, where there are two bedrooms, a Master bedroom plus Guest King.... Sea Captain's house also works well for a family living with in-laws, or sisters living together.... The studio living room downstairs is still a project in the works... In other words, Christie and Libby haven't finished decorating it yet, but there is a lounge for guests to spread out in, a second living room with amazing, high definition, curved Smart TV, HBO and Tennis Channel, an ideal place for watching sports. A wrap around deck circles the entire house, on which there are four entertaining areas. One faces west, the setting sun, and offers extraordinary sunsets. Another is near the kitchen and has a dining table and propane barbecue. Another has built in benches and coffee tables and adjoins the studio, great for parties. The fourth deck is located on the parking lot side of the building, a delightful place to sit in the cool of the shade under the roof during the summer. We plug our computers in there and enjoy the cool of the afternoon, while watching the joggers and dog walkers stroll by.... Sea Captain's house has a circular blue chip driveway with round about, covered front porch, and lots of luxurious begonia plants, hanging from the porch ceilings. Built in 2014, Sea Captain's house has internet, Wifi, cable TV with HBO and Tennis Channel, a gas fireplace, radiant heated flooring in the basement and studio, forced air heat, water filtration system, washer and dryer, plus Yamaha sound system with radio and dock for iPhone or iPod. Keurig K-cup coffee maker, Juicer..skewers for the BBQ....kegerator.... Captain's House is not located on the ocean, nor does it have a view of the ocean, but it is located very close to the ocean. 300 yards from the house, there is a tidal, public launch area that doubles as a swimming beach, an ideal place from which to launch kayaks and to swim in clear waters. The approach to the Captain's House is pretty, as it's located just two houses beyond the Blue Hill Country Club, which has beautiful vistas of the ocean. Parker Point Road is a scenic drive that wraps around inner Blue Hill Bay. Neighbors have beautiful houses along it.... Long term, winter rentals are welcome. The house will be listed on AirBNB for the next couple of years. I, Shelby Nicholson, manage the bookings and calendar for my niece, Christie, who lives out of town. Libby Nicholson is Christie's mother, who will welcome you to the property this summer. The privacy of the yard, the grandeur of the building, the interior appointments, beautiful Blue Hill....Guests will love this beautifully appointed, luxurious house and will be comfortable and happy during their stay there.
Blue Hill is a scenic, rural, down east, coastal town, dominated by Blue Hill Mountain. Thanks to the Blue Hill Public Library and centrally-located village green, the town has a strong sense of community with people who love living here, because of the tranquil scenery, the beautiful farm houses, the lack of suburbia, zero traffic lights, and many ocean views. Beautiful farm houses with gardens dot the countryside. Scenic vistas open to the ocean. The woods are spruce pine and Balsam trees. Occasionally you see sheep grazing in fields by the side of the road. Yet hidden among the Elm trees of Blue Hill, there is alot to do in Blue Hill and surrounding areas. In a Welcome binder in the house are lists of places to visit from sporting activities to museums, to places to dine, to locations of beaches, to where to find nature.... I consider myself an expert on what to do here, where to go to find any activity. Please don't hesitate to ask me about any activity that might interest you. For instance, one guest asked recently about light houses in the area. I introduced them to the Stonington Mail Boat that offers narrated tours to all the lighthouses in the area. Another guest asked about fishing. I gave them the website for Eagle Mountain Guide Service, where individuals can join a group on a fully-equipped, 24' pontoon boat, whose guides know where the best salmon and trout and bass fishing lakes are. And there are dozens more activities also. Our welcome kit is filled to the brim with things to do in the area from Bar Harbor to Rockland. We include Franklin D. Roosevelt's Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada, 90 miles up the coast....(bring passports). And Andrew Wyeth's "Olson House" where he painted 'Christina's World" in Cushing, Maine..... Blue Hill is 45 minutes from Acadia National Park, a stunning place to rent bicycles, take boat trips, sign up for guided kayaking tours, climb mountains, and bicycle Rockefeller's blue-chipped, carriage trails, which have no motorized traffic..... Acadia National Park offers sports and recreational activities such as narrated lobster boat talks, windjammer sails.... narrated lighthouse tours, not to mention hiking trails to tops of mountains with amazing coastal views of Blue Hill Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. You can drive up Cadillac Mountain, tour Mt. Desert's scenic Loop Road, take horse and cart rides along John Rockefeller's blue-chipped carriage trials..... Acadia National Park offers all manner of fun activities for the whole family. Blue Hill is 45 minutes from the scenic, coastal town of Stonington, which offers fine dining right on the water's edge and gorgeous sunsets. After dinner, take in a live show at the Opera House. Like Bar Harbor, Stonington has beautiful curb appeal - colorful paint, beautiful gardens, quaint wood buildings, granite steps.... If you are an art aficionado, Stonington has art gallery after art gallery, lining its beautiful streets. Check out Jill Hoy's Art Gallery at 80 Main Street in particular. She paints a sunny and colorful Maine! Wow! Walk the commercial lobster pier; check out the clothing shops. A bustling lobster port, Stonington offers a wonderful day trip. And Stonington is where you pick up the narrated lighthouse and Puffin tours on the Mail Boat to Isle au haut (island), which is part of Acadia National Park.... Blue Hill is also 45 minutes from Belfast and Camden, neighboring towns west of Blue Hill, quaint with retail stores, walking paths, historical buildings. Camden is famous for its music scene; Belfast for its environmental shops; check out The Green Store in particular, and the movie theater. During winter we watch movies in buildings that are so home spun; it's like a time-warp! If you are craving beauty and nature, our Welcome Kit gives directions and addresses (for GPS) to beautiful spots, like windswept Curtis Cove, famous Blue Hill Mountain, and peaceful Carter Preserve. The Reversing Falls is where the 12 foot tide squeezes through a narrow 50 foot opening into a large salt pond, where kayakers find sport. Our Welcome Kit has addresses for your GPS to sight see these towns, as well as tours and addresses for sports and recreation in the area, places to dine in Blue Hill, where to go to find nature, explore the trails, beaches, museums, and places of interest in Blue Hill, plus addresses of neighboring farms, where you can buy fresh raw milk, homemade yogurt, organic chicken meat, eggs, and u-pick strawberries and apples. In the fall buy a 50 pound bag of potatoes and onions to take home with you.... The Blue Hill Town Park is a great place to take young children. It has swings and seesaws and climbing gyms.... Our cousins said it was a God-send to have it located so near by, a place where they could take their young children.... There's a swimming beach there (made famous by author Robert McCloskey in his children's book Time of Wonder), and granite markers that show north, east, south, and west... The Blue Hill Town Park also hosts the Flash in the Pan Steel Band street dance most Monday evenings throughout the summer, a great place to dance with everybody (mostly young people) and to listen to the steel band in the street. Blue Hill has a summer stock theater company, the New Surry Theater, that puts on plays in the town hall. It also has a chamber music school, Kneisel Hall, which provides musicians and music lovers with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the chamber repertoire of over 100 years. They hold chamber music concerts throughout the summer, but one of the things Kneisel Hall musicians are known for is their children's concerts, which they hold at the Blue Hill Public Library throughout the summer. They interpret the music for the children by playing bits and pieces of classical music, making them aware of the rhythem and texture and sound of each instrument. For restaurants in the area, apart from Barncastle and Marlintinis, which are two restaurants that compete for the local drinking crowd that comes out en force at 5 pm, we recommend Arborvine, located right in the village. Albeit expensive, it serves Blue Hill's famous, locally-raised "Bagaduce River oysters" and locally grown salad, using greens from Eliot Coleman's Four Season Farm of Learning Channel fame. An example of sustainable living, the gardens at Four Season Farm in Brooksville are open to the public and are not to be missed. The fresh clear waters of the nearby Bagaduce River is the perfect place to raise oysters, which once thrived naturally in the fresh, cold rivers of Maine. Arborvine makes its own beer, Deep Water Brewing Company, and has a brew pub. Another restaurant located close to town is the Farmhouse Inn, located at 578 Pleasant Street in Blue Hill. For health conscious patrons, this restaurant offers the least starch of all the menus in town. Fruits and vegetables and sea food is the name of the game.... Rustic, charming, and not expensive, Farmhouse Inn is all the rage this year. We also recommend dining at the Brooklin Inn, whose fare is locally grown produce, fish and seafood.... Run by a modern day sea captain, a windjammer captain from the West Indies back in the day, they keep a fire going in the fireplace in winter, and it's a really fun, welcoming place to visit. A great place to watch the sun set in the most romantic setting possible is the Cockatoo Portuguese Restaurant in Deer Isle. The bay resembles those you find in the Caribbean - perfectly half-moon shaped... Take a comfortable seat on the deck overlooking Goose Cove. A "reef" out in the bay swirls with sea water - you hear the waves lapping the beach near by.... It's peaceful to sit on the deck, hear the surf, drink champagne, eat hearty seafood appetizers, and watch the sun go down in the sun.... For a lobster dinner, consider taking your meal outside around a centrally located campfire at the Boatyard Grill in Blue Hill. Or on a pier overlooking the water and Acadia National Park in Surry at Perry's Lobster Shack. The experience at Perry's is described as "way off the radar!" We also enjoy dining on the water at Bagaduce Lunch, a fried seafood place that my uncle justifiably calls 'the Yale Club;" it is so popular! Take your meal on picnic tables right by the water's edge. Blue Hill celebrates Memorial Day with a Parade; the Fourth of July with the Blue Hill Pops. On Labor Day we go to the Blue Hill Fair! Blue Hill has inspired many authors. E.B. White wrote Charlotte's Web, which is about the Blue Hill Fair. Robert McCloskey wrote Blueberries for Sal, which is about Blue Hill Mountain. Katharine Butler Hathaway, a relative, wrote The Little Locksmith, a must-read memoir, in our cousins house in the village. Blue Hill has a few museums right in the village... The Jonathan Fisher House is an 1814 historic house museum. Parson Jonathan Fisher was Blue Hill's first congregational minister from 1794 to 1837; he was also a farmer, scientist, mathematician, surveyor, and writer of prose and poetry... He bound his own books, made buttons and hats, designed and built furniture, painted sleighs, was a reporter for the local newspaper, helped found Bangor Theological Seminary, dug wells, built his own home and raised a large family. The Historic Holt House, built in 1815, was lived in by Jeremiah Holt, grandson of Nicholas Holt, who brought Blue Hill’s fifth family from Andover, Massachusetts in 1765. Many of the houses in the village date from the 1800s. A drive out to Steamboat Wharf harks back to the days when weekly packets sailed in from Boston with tourists and the mail.... Our sightseeing tours, together with lists of sports and recreational activities in Stonington and Acadia National Park can keep you occupied for an entire summer..... We are, in fact, interested in winter rentals... The best thing about Blue Hill is there is no traffic and no suburbia. Just farmhouses and trees, and ocean, decompress from the fast pace of city life and join us this summer in beautiful, rural Blue Hill, Maine.
  • Beautiful home, room to move around, space for everyone. Great decks for morning coffee to late night snacks. Very pretty furnishings. Big kitchen for everyone to gather.

  • Beautiful, well equipped house in Blue Hill. The hosts made sure that we had everything that we needed for our stay. They provided a list of things to do and places to eat in the area which was very helpful. The house was clean and ready for our arrival, it was spacious and had wonderful places to sit both inside and out! We ate a lobster dinner, went hiking, picked blueberries, and went to the beach. We had a great stay!

  • This is a perfect house for bigger groups of people or family planning to visit Blue Hill. It has a wonderful kitchen(my favorite part) and plenty of space. The decorations are delicate and beautiful. It was just an amazing stay. Also, Libby&Shelby are very responsive and extremely kind. It was a perfect experience

  • Beautiful house in Blue Hill. Lots of space in the house. Spacious kitchen/great room. Really long walk to town, and not accessible to water. But a super high quality house that is well appointed. We enjoyed our stay.

  • We stayed 4 nights and it was very nice experience. The house is beautiful. The hosts were very helpful and informative. The location is somewhat remote in relation to Bar Harbor.

  • Our family of 6...2 parents and 4 kids (ages 14,12,10,8) all absolutely loved this place! The house itself is beautifully decorated with something pretty to look at every turn. Loved having a fully stocked kitchen with every amenity necessary and laundry on premises. Located just a short walk to the water. Shelby provided a wealth of information about the area including many hiking trails in Blue Hill. You must hike the Blue Hill mountain and pick wild blueberries on the way! It's about an hour from Acadia and Bar Harbor...not a bad drive. Book this lovely home...you won't be disappointed!

  • Judith's house is beautifully situated. I enjoyed waking up to have coffee on the deck to watch the fog roll over the water and the hummingbirds busy in her garden.

  • Had a nice stay here - very peaceful and quiet. Thank you!

    Susannah2017-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a peaceful stay in Judith's cabin. It's clean, cozy, quiet and has a lovely deck with a scenic view. It is in a forested setting affording walks in the woods, yet close to picturesque Stonington which has numerous restaurants. We appreciated Judith's communication and delicious homemade cake upon our arrival.

  • Judith is a gracious, charming, and very interesting host, who treats you like she's invited you into her own home. She called to check on me when I was running a little late, making sure I hadn't gotten lost. We had great conversations, and both her dog and cat greeted me like I'd known them all my life. The cabin is secluded, with pretty views of the cove, and perfectly comfortable. If you want a secluded get-away in the Maine coastline, this is the place!

    Kathy2016-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Judith's cottage was perfect for my family! The cottage had everything we needed and Judith even surprised us with a few treats from her garden! My children enjoyed exploring the cove and seeing the gorgeous flowers and plant life. Deer Isle is a beautiful area to see with a close beach to swim and find little seashell treasures.

    Kari2017-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Judith's cabin was absolutely perfect for a quiet week of hikes, reading and relaxation. Even though it's attached to the main house and deck, the guest cabin/deck feels very private. I enjoyed sitting and reading on the deck each morning with my coffee and each evening as the sun set overlooking her gorgeous gardens. The kitchen is well appointed and was perfect for cooking small meals for one or two. Judith has a great binder of tips/brochures on food vendors, grocery stores, and sights around the island - her tips are very useful and include closing times (things here close earlier than you'd expect!) Another person recommended that a single woman traveling alone would feel comfortable here and I can attest to the same. It's an extra benefit that she allows dogs - and her dog Jack was very friendly, as promised!

    Andrea2017-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Judith and Linda and the two marvelous dogs greeted us when we arrived. They, minus the dogs, helped carry our luggage and provided us with walking sticks so we could traverse the steps and the path to the water. We had a delightfully rustic Maine experience. I would encourage anyone who wants to feel like a native for a couple of days to contact Judith.

  • Sky on the Water was absolutely beautiful! It had wonderful views of the river and was a perfect getaway for our family. It was close enough to Acadia and Bar Harbor where we could drive to every day, but far enough away from all the traffic of those areas. It was charming and Frank does a wonderful job keeping the place up.

    Lauren2016-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • The was our second stay at Sky on the Water. We love the area and love the house. The view of the river throughout the day is gorgeous and the house is very well set-up and comfortable. Frank and his wife have made it feel that they want you to have a lovely stay in their home. The one time there was an issue with something (the washer), I was able to reach Frank right away on the phone, and he had a repair person out the next day. This is a special place.

  • Very nice house with picture perfect views . Very quiet location . Beds are comfortable .

    Tyce2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location and a well home. Very well thought out design, with everything one could need to settle right in. Great spot to relax and enjoy the scenery in peace and quiet. If you need your technology there are two TVs, wifi, and a speaker system to lay tunes through your iPod/phone etc... Very functional kitchen and gorgeous finished wooden slab bar area for hanging around or eating. It was too warm to use the wooden stove, but being a fire bug I loved using the fire pit down by the pond. We really loved it here. Frank was very responsive to any questions and one minor situation with the alarm system. A couple of things to note: 1) the pond and surrounding areas are not suitable for swimming. 2) the master bed is super comfy but quite small if you are used to a queen or larger. 3) it's a bit of a drive to get anywhere. None of there were deal breakers, but definitely things to consider. My wife, two teenage girls and I will always have great memories of our stay here. Truly a special place.

  • We just spent a lovely week in Brooksville, Maine at the Sky on Water Home. When we came through the front door we saw the sun shining on the water through the huge picture windows. We opened the porch doors (but not the screens) and had a delightful breeze through the house. Most mornings we sat out on the porches with our tea and coffee which started the days off right. One morning we saw a bald eagle, and the next day a heron waded in the water close to the house. It was great to have a fully stocked kitchen to cook up meals, and even though my husband watched the TV at night I was glad just to sit and look at the views. The beds were comfortable, and it was handy to have two full bathrooms for the four of us. We made day trips to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and other nearby sights, and after the all the running around during the day, it was refreshing to come back to peaceful setting and relax. This was our first trip to Maine and based on the wonderful time we had it will definitely not be our last.
