Historic home located in the historic district just a few blocks from downtown Selma. The home was actually built about 15 miles away in Alabama's first capital, Cahawba, and moved to it's current location. This listing is for a private room with a queen size bed as well as a private bathroom all to yourself. Great location to be able to see Selma.
Great front porch, quiet neighbors, and great location.

¡¡¡¡Gracias!!!!

This is a spacious upstairs unit in a wonderful building constructed in 1920. Just 3 blocks from the main street (US Hwy. 80), it is within easy walking distance of downtown shops, Edmund Pettus Bridge, National Park Service Interpretive Center, public library and the downtown churches. The building is across the street from a lovely antebellum home and next door to an antebellum Italianate home. The screened porch is an inviting get-away place for lazy times.
This is an entire apartment. In addition to the inviting front porch and two bedrooms, there is a living room, dining room, office, fully equipped kitchen and a laundry area. The laundry has a washer and dryer for use by guests of the unit (and it's not coin operated), stove, refrigerator and dishwasher in the apartment. The bathroom has a separate shower and a bathtub. Bathrooms are shared however if only two rooms are booked a bathroom is allocated to each room.

Gracious, spacious, beautiful classical southern home is an historical landmark, formerly home to beloved physician James Elhert who was known for caring for the very poor and wealthy alike. This quiet neighborhood is about 1 mile from the Alabama River, famous Edmund Pettus Bridge, and only 3 blocks to some of the most beautiful churches, reminiscent of a variety of European architectures. For short time medical and educational guests it is 2.5 miles from Vaughn Regional Medical Center.
Relax, get a little Lab love therapy from Augusta and Beau, or just relax out on your own private deck or the spacious 300 sq foot verandah. Refrigerater, microwave, coffee-tea set up. with space to write and eat. Full kitchen privileges and laundry for guests staying 7 nights or longer.
In the heart of Selma's historic district and beautifully tree lined streets to walk to the many pre Civil War, Civil War and Civil Rights monuments, churches and museums.

The room includes: private bedroom with one queen bed, a private bathroom, and access to the beautiful shared spaces in the home and the grounds. The home is located in the historic Old Town area (home of Sturdivant Hall among other museums) and a short walk from historic downtown Selma and the famous Edmund Pettus Bridge. Located on Dallas Ave. with private parking, the home serves as an excellent, centrally located “base camp” for visiting many points of interest in the Black Belt region.
This house dates from the mid-19th Century circa 1866. Architecturally the house began as an "I" house, meaning two rooms over two rooms. The house has had several additions to form what we see today. The builder of the home is unknown, however the first known occupant was Lockey S. Hooker, widow of Frederick Josiah Hooker who died around 1848. Lockey S. Hooker came to Selma, AL from Pickens County AL with her five children prior to 1860 and established their household. Mrs. Hooker raised her children here as well as taking in boarders, a common practice for widows during the time. The Hooker family and descendants continued to live in this house for many years. Although Fred Hooker Jr., died earlier, his widow Alexina lived here until her death in 1932. After her death her daughter Mary John Hooker Cleveland, widow of Charles Cleveland, lived here and was later joined by her sister Alexina Hooker Carothers, widow of John Sadler Carothers. The two sisters lived in this home for the rest of their lives-last shown in Selma City Directories in 1969. The Hooker family resided in this residence for over 100 years. Mrs. Hooker's son Frederick J. Hooker, Jr., a cotton weigher by profession -when "Cotton was King" - married Alexina Fellows, the daughter of a prominent Selma attorney William H. Fellows. Fred J. and Alexina Hooker continued to live in this home and raised their children here. One of their children became one of Alabama's most notable figures. Their daughter Hattie Hooker (1875-1949), who married industrialist Joseph G. Wilkins was a pioneer suffragist and a founder of the Alabama Equal Rights Suffrage Association and the League of Women Voters. Hattie became the first woman elected as a representative to the Alabama State Legislature in the year of 1922. She worked tirelessly to make life better for all Alabamians, especially in the areas of education, healthcare reform, civil rights of African Americans and women's rights. She was described in the political campaign as a "woman of rare culture and brilliant mentality." But her progressive views and lofty aspirations made her an outcast and the subject of much suspect and scorn in the white community. This however did not deter her and she was supported by her husband in all her endeavors. In 1972 the home was sold to Leon and Willetta Morgan. The Morgan's resided here for 40 years. In 2015, the home was purchased by Chad McEachern. McEachern undertook the herculean task of completing renovating the home and returning the Estate to its former glory.
Old Town sits in the heart of Selma and boasts countless beautiful historic homes from a time when Selma was filled with wealth that rivaled any city in the country. Old Town is very walk/bike able and many residents do so on a daily basis. Downtown is within walking distance.

This Victorian cottage (1884), with its private riverfront balcony and a perfect view of the Iconic Edmund Pettus Bridge, nestles on the bank of the Alabama River. Charming, remodeled, comfortable and cozy, it has 12 foot ceilings and is filled with heirlooms and original art & decor! Waking, you see the river from your pillow! Featured twice in the Cottage Journal Magazine, it is downtown, just a step away from the St.James bar and dining room, near museums, art galleries and boutique shopping.
The Bridge Tender's Cottage is truly unique. Listed on the National Registry for Historic Places, it was built in 1884 for the bridge tender who turned the existing bridge so riverboats could pass down the river. That bridge was torn down in 1940 when the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge was built...the bridge that played a key role in attaining voting rights for all people. The movie SELMA was filmed on that bridge, replaying the history of the Selma Marches to Montgomery led by Dr. Martin Luther King in 1965. The NPS Interpretive Center and the Bridge are only a block away. You will have the entire lower floor of the cottage so know that stairs are required to enter. The Bridge Tender's is a place to relax in as well as sightsee and has its own library so you can have a read and a rest by the river. The rooms give the feeling of being on a cozy, stationary house boat. You can see both the sunrise and sunset as you enjoy coffee or wine and cheese on the balcony...a fine spot for entertaining! There are also wonderful audio tours available on the Tour Selma App and a free list of AC's Picks.
Downtown Selma, this riverfront property is located at the end of Washington Street behind the Historic St. James Hotel with its bar and dining room and Selma's beautiful River walk. We are one block from the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the NPS Selma to Montgomery Interpretive Center and walking distance from two pharmacies, boutique shopping, the library and the Old Depot Museum with everything you've ever wanted to know about Selma plus much more.

Realmente esperamos volver a Selma y a Marylynn's algún día.

The room includes: private bedroom with one queen bed, shared bathroom, and access to the beautiful shared spaces in the home and the grounds.
