Tiny 'Poet's Cabin' on a secluded lane in the woods. Can sleep up to four guests. Full bed in the upstairs loft and futon in the main floor living area. Plenty of peace and quiet in this getaway just a short walk or bike ride to the ocean. Take a walk to the harbor or a 5 minute drive to Acadia's Wonderland and Bass Harbor Light House. Far enough away from the crowd yet still very accessible to the beautiful town of SWH, Acadia Nat'l Park, Bar Harbor, and Mount Desert Island attractions!
Special thanks to Max Ablicki @ablicki on Instagram (go check it out!) for the amazing photos of our beloved Poet's Cabin!! Take a winter hygge getaway to this cozy little cabin in the woods, reserve your summer Acadia adventure, or your autumn Maine leaf peeping tour!! Need more space?? We also have a larger cottage next door (Seawood Bunk House... sleeps 10!). Reserve Poet's, or Seawood, or both together for a bigger crowd! https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20607357?s=51
Small town, friendly seaside village with lots of local crafts, businesses, and talent. With a personal, homemade vibe!!
  • Awesome space. Adorably decorated. Particularly well equipped kitchen. Everything you could possibly need!

  • Our stay was fantastic. The cottage isn't big but it's secluded and cozy. The upstairs bed is one of the best mattresses I've ever slept on. The only issues were very minor: spotty WiFi and a bit of an odd smell to the place (but it went away once we lit a candle). We would absolutely stay here again.

  • We had a fantastic stay at this adorable cabin, it was very clean and cozy. When we got there the lights were on and it was very inviting, and the check-in and check-out process was very straightforward. The little kitchen was wonderful to have and the whole cabin was warm and welcoming. There were lots of fun little books about Maine and the cabin's decorations gave off cozy Maine vibes. Next time I plan on spending a night on Mount Desert Island I definitely plan on seeking out this cabin again.

  • Very cute cottage! We loved the coziness of it! Very clean and comfortable!

    Amy2018-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Not far from Acadia or bar harbor. Very clean and nicely set up. Side note: At&t seems to work best over in that area. No wifi available at this time there so if you need GPS download maps beforehand. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Steve and Amber were fantastic hosts - they gave us great local tips for things to do and visit, and the cottage is perfectly tucked away for a secluded woodland retreat! Response times were almost immediate, and the cottage is very well equipped. Would like to visit again!

The Bird's Nest is an elevated efficiency apartment with views of Somes Sound, Southwest Harbor, and the mountains of Acadia. There is a small efficiency kitchen and a sunny second floor deck to enjoy the view while having a peaceful breakfast or evening meal. While the property is secluded and private, we do have our own private wooded trail that drops right into town, where you can enjoy Southwest Harbor's restaurants and shops, or catch the free Island Explorer bus.
Intimate sunny apartment with an ocean view.
The Bird's Nest sits on a Ridge overlooking the village of Southwest Harbor and has a vista that is as unique as any on the Maine coast yet is removed from the busier, in-town atmosphere. We are a bit more secluded, but we do have our own private path that will take you into the center of Southwest Harbor. From your deck, look north to the fjord of Somes Sound and looking east and south are Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, a more intimate view of Southwest Harbor, and several of the offshore islands.
  • I would highly recommend staying in the birds nest. It was the perfect inexpensive place to sleep while enjoying Acadia. We were able to cook breakfast for two every morning before enjoying the day hiking. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the sunset to relax after along day. Having cable tv was a pleasant and unexpected surprise to be able to watch a show before bed. Southwest Harbor is particularly quite off season more so than we anticipated but we were able to enjoy some great live music at the local restaurant! The vacation was such a treat.

  • Margery is a very pleasant and helpful host. She made sure we had everything we needed and then some. I would not hesitate to stay in one of her properties again.

    Allison2017-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the very private, quiet and cozy treehouse style atmosphere. The deck was a great place to enjoy the fresh air, the sun or the stars at night. We also loved walking to town for a coffee, popover breakfast or dinner at Coda. We hope to return again someday.

    Pete2018-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful views for morning coffee. Very clean property and great wildlife. I would recommend this quaint spot for the privacy.

  • This was a great location for an Acadia Park visit! Easy to access, but quiet and away from the crowds. It was nice and clean, with a great view of the harbor. As a hiker, I liked the easy walk through the woods into town. In town, you can find a restaurant or store for supplies. It was my first visit to Acadia, and I only stayed 4 nights, so I never even got to the western side for hikes. Definitely would return here!

    B2018-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place is ADORABLE. It's small and cozy like it says in the description, but it was plenty for me and my boyfriend for a four night stay. Sitting out on that deck watching the sun rising over the mountains made our whole trip! And the little nature trail leading to town was a perfect way for us to stretch our legs and get some essentials after the long drive. Would highly recommend booking here!

    Samantha2018-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Bird's Nest was such a pleasure - comfortable, quiet, and private. Southwest Harbor was a relaxing setting, and driving into Acadia NP and Bar Harbor was easily accomplished. We ate quite a bit of lobster while in Maine, and highly recommend Thurston's Lobster Pound

This second floor two-bedroom cottage on the "Quietside" has lovely views of the harbor from the living room and deck. Perfect for small families, there is a queen sized bedroom and a kids room with two twin beds. Explore nearby restaurants on foot or cook in your own functional kitchenette. On Southwest Harbor's nicest residential street minutes from town, this is a fantastic place to unwind by the sea.
Clark Point neighborhood is unique, rich in a variety of offerings and activities within minutes by foot, boat, bike or auto! Being on the Harbor provides and ever changing visual experience. Heavily populated in the summer with an incredible array and variety of watercraft, from the fleet of vintage Friendship Sloops to luxury Hinckley sale and power boats, to the commercial fishing fleet of lobster boats and scallop draggers. This property is 'south facing' which makes it a warm and welcoming place for us during the 'off season'... Our 'winter' home is Bangor where we work in real estate and insurance, 46 miles away, but spend nearly every weekend during the fall, winter and spring seasons! Our property and location is great because there is a mix of summer residents and year 'round residents... there is an active community here in the 'off season' During the summer the bus stops at our doorstep providing free transportation around Mt Desert Island. But when its not we are within a short distance to the Causway Club, which has nine hole golf course, clay tennis courts and a salt water heated pool. On the other side of the Club is the Park with superb hiking. One fantastic hike is Flying Mountain which is only about 250' in elevation and takes only 20 minutes to climb. The reward is a fabulous view East overlooking Somes Sound, Northeast Harbor and the ocean and islands off shore. The trail continues down to Valley Cove on the Sound and there's a fire road returning you to the point of beginning. The proximity to the vibrant village 'down town' adds to the location. The village offers a great library, Harbor House a community neighborhood organization offering 'YMCA' type of programs for folks of all ages, a great bakery, specialty wine store, a gourmet food market, bike shop, pharmacy, and an array of fine restaurants. Personally, the property provides access to the harbors and islands around Mt Desert Island.
A world-class location, Southwest Harbor is Bar Harbor without the crowds! Walk to Red Sky or the Claremont for fine dining, paddle across the harbor to XYZ for margaritas and authentic Mexican or take the boat to Islesford Dock from steps away. Catch some live music and tapas at Coda or Sips, or walk to Beal’s for Lobster. Or call early and order a farm- to-table dinner to go from Red Sky and eat ribeye and halibut on your private deck overlooking the harbor! If you are feeling active there are countless hiking trails and the free Island Explorer bus stops right outside. Acadia mountain is a 5-minute drive, or explore the natural Seawall or Bass Harbor. Bar Harbor, Sand Beach, Cadillac Mtn. and Northeast Harbor are all a quick 25-minute drive away. Nestled with three other cottages in a quaint residential neighborhood on the shore of Southwest Harbor, you can witness a variety of interesting boating activities from your porch. A ferry which goes to some of the outer islands passes several times a day to the Upper Town Dock. Lobster fishermen moor their boats and work off the lobster wholesaler's docks just next door. Across the harbor is Dysart's Great Harbor Marina, hosting everything from commercial fishing boats to world class yachts in the summer months. Acadia National Park, with its nearly 32,000 acres of land offers unequaled beauty and ocean front access. Over 55 miles of carriage trails created and gifted to the people by John D. Rockefeller provide easy hiking and biking to the summits of nearby mountains with vista of unrivaled beauty. In spite of all the physical beauty and charm of the 'Island' we hear most from our newer guests that they were most impressed with the friendliness of the community and the people of Southwest Harbor. Most are anxious to make a visit to Southwest Harbor an annual affair!
  • It was a great stay at Jon and Nancy's cottage!

  • A great base for exploring the island. Really homey and cozy spot. Debbie is very kind.

  • This cabin was perfect for a winter trip to Acadia National Park. It was warm and cozy and an easy drive to hikes and scenic spots. We would definitely stay here again!

  • Deborah‘s carriage house is a wonderful place, quiet and idyllic situated in the woods. We‘ve seen deers, wild turkeys and squirrels there. The house is new, stylishly furnished and very comfortable. We felt like home. The village centre with nice restaurants, café‘s and shops is not far. We would come back at any time!

  • Great place in a quiet and peaceful location with close proximity to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.

    Joseph2017-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived to a clean and inviting home. It is very evident that Deborah took her time to make guests feel at home with thoughtful touches such as providing coffee/tea to help us start our day. The home was fully stocked with all necessities including fresh linens, toiletries and kitchenware. A variety of maps and books pertaining to the Bar Harbor area were also provided, which we found very helpful. Deborah was very responsive to questions through email and text. The location was a quick 15 minute ride into Acadia/Downtown Bar Harbor and a peaceful setting to relax in at the end of the day.

  • Great little cottage, spent 6 days with our dog, toddler and baby. The drive into bar harbor isn't long and we enjoyed walking to the pebble beach in the morning. Hope to come back next year

  • Kathy' s place is awesome, we dind't have the chance to meet her, but she was always avaiable to reply ower questions. The house is very cozzy and has everything you might need. Very well located. Nice experience,we completely recommend it!,

  • This was a really great cottage for exploring the beautiful MDI. There was morning activity as described in the listing. They appeared to be clearing some land (additional cottages perhaps?) so there was some backhoe activity near the cottage in the mornings. They were respectful of us with the equipment, so it did not bother us that much. Also fair warning: there is a rooster just down the road that is an early riser! The cottage does permit pets, so we did find some evidence of pet hair. Just something to keep in mind if you have allergies. Additionally, my wife and I sometimes wished that the 30 minute drive back from the opposite side of the island was just a tad shorter. All that being said, I still felt completely refreshed each morning. Being on the West side of the island feels more secluded and less busy. It actually felt good to put the cell phone away, knowing I couldn't get service. There was certainly less traffic and fewer people compared to the East side of the island. There are a few of the better tidal pools nearby at Ship Harbor and Wonderland, along with the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse (still occupied by a USCG family). We enjoyed Thurston's Lobster Pound in Bernard, just down the road, although we had to battle the other tourists and mosquitoes to get inside. We also enjoyed Little Notch bakery in Southwest Harbor. The nearby IGA has a decent selection if you prefer to cook in the cottage, which has a small stove, full-sized refrigerator, and a grill outside. Kathy provides all the essentials you need to have a pleasant stay. She was accommodating to us when we arrived late the first night, and responded to us quickly via text message. Despite some trade-offs, I think the cottage is an excellent value. If you want a step up from camping that is affordable, but can do without a full-service lodging, I think you should consider this cottage (Website hidden by Airbnb)

  • Great value for the price on the quiet side of island. Host was easy to contact & quick to respond. Bed was very comfortable. Loved taking several long quiet walks early in morning with our dog. Was there with husband & dog....super hard to leave & come back home. Enjoyed reading on the deck

    Sharon2017-07-18T00:00:00Z

    Sylvie2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Kathy's cottage. It was well-equipped for cooking, great location for exploring Acadia, easy to communicate with Kathy, great experience all around. As others mentioned, there was early morning noise from the landscaping company but it wasn't a problem at all for us. The farm animals next door were a huge hit for our 2-year-old.

    Maya2015-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy was an amazing host! We booked this cottage because we were running the MDI half marathon & wanted to bring our dogs on the trip. Before we even arrived, Kathy offered us a ride to the start of our race on the following morning which was a tremendous gesture in our book. I was happy for the opportunity to meet her & see her "small hobby farm"...the cottage was just what we needed w/ everything as pictured, the location was lovely & quiet, and our weekend was perfect!!

    Karen2015-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Church cottage was a wonderful home base for our trip to Acadia! We were more interested in exploring the park and doing lots of hiking, so we were happy to stay on the quiet side of the island. With most attractions within 30 minutes driving distance, we did not have any issues getting around to see everything we wanted to! We enjoyed spending evenings on the deck, but make sure to bring plenty of insect repellent as the mosquitos are relentless! We would definitely recommend this place to others who are looking for a nice, quiet vacation close to lots of great hiking trails.

On the quiet-side of Mount Desert in quaint little town of Bernard on Bass Harbor. In walking distance to Thurston's, best lobsters on Island! Close to Acadia/hiking, boating, biking and gorgeous vistas/sunsets. Short drive to Bar Harbor.
These two bedrooms are located on the second floor of our home. You have a separate entrance to access your rooms that is occasionally used to access the other bedroom downstairs. Your private bathroom and breakfast nook are also located upstairs next to the bedrooms. The breakfast nook has a coffee maker, microwave and small refrigerator. These comfortable, clean, bright bedrooms are located in the quaint village of Bernard in walking distance to Bass Harbor (picturesque fishing harbor), Thurston's (lobster pound and restaurant), and back beach (beautiful rocky shoreline good for a refreshing dip).
We are located in the quaint little town of Bernard on Bass Harbor. Bass Harbor, is a fishing village on what is called the “quiet” or “back” side of Mount Desert Island - near Acadia National Park. Bass Harbor is filled with coastal photo opportunities like lobster boats and other yachts, lobster traps and buoys, winding roads, and buildings characteristic of the area. The famous Bass Harbor Head Light is located here on park land a short distance southeast of the harbor. This is one of the most photographed and recognized lighthouses in America. Thurston's Lobster pound and restaurant is a 5 minute walk down the road to the harbor. It has an excellent bar and provides authentic Maine cuisine like boiled lobster, fish chowder, lobster stew, mussels, and our favorite; Lobster BLT sandwiches. We are a 10 minute drive from Southwest Harbor which has many restaurants, shops, and a grocery store. Bar Harbor, the local tourism hub, is about a half hour drive away.
  • Ginny and Jim were wonderful hosts. I definitely recommend having the lobster dinner at least one of your nights. Great hosts make you feel at home and welcome as their own. It made our visit to Acadia even better.

    Edwin2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Ginny and Jim were wonderful hosts. They were very sweet and made us feel welcome. Each morning we were awoken to warm blueberry muffins. My husband was in love; they were so delicious! We spent our babymoon weekend in Tremont. The apartment was clean and was just as described. The bed was so comfortable and there was plenty of room for the two of us and our dog for our two night stay. We didn't even need to use the second room but it was very cute anyway. The location was great. We were in walking distance from an amazing restaurant - Thurstons Lobster. Also we drove to Acadia national park (about 35 min away) went hiking and then came back took showers, ate lobster dinners at Thurstons and made it to Bar Harbor (about 30 min away) for some Saturday night shopping for mementos of our stay. We got it all done in one day and had a wonderful time!! Thank you Ginny and Jim!

    Jackie2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Ginny welcomed us into their lovely home and treated us as valued friends. We woke each morning to delicious muffins and yogurt to enjoy with our coffee and wished that we had taken them up on their dinner offer. We loved Southwest Harbor- the "quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island. The location was perfect for us-- close to Acadia and accessible to everything-- yet out of the hustle and bustle.

    Patti2016-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic accommodation with extremely helpful hosts, we had an amazing time.

    Russell2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • We felt welcome and comfortable. The apartment was very well equipped and very clean. The blueberry muffins and the nearby lobster dinner were amazing. We enjoyed the quiet and picturesque harbor.

    Georgios2016-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Guest quarters were as expected. Hosts were available if needed, but unobtrusive. Overall, our stay was great and we would stay here again. It is important to note, however, that this is a very sleepy area, so there was nothing to do out of the house at night (which was expected). The hosts seemed to retire fairly early, and the guest quarters are above the main living quarters. So, we were always concerned about our volume. I don't think it was an issue, but its worth noting in advance.

    Stacey2016-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great muffins offered by host. Cozy and lovely house with bright and vibrant colorful decorations. The house itself is a picture perfect. 2 min drive to a famous lobster house. Definitely on the quiet side of the island. Restaurants all close at 8 pm. 25-35 min drive to Acadia major trails and attractions. Host was welcoming and gave a nice tour of the house. Only downside was: new mosquito bites every morning. Good stay overall and made awesome memories at Maine.

    Yang2017-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This space was amazing! Thurston’s was within walking distance, which was convenient after long days of hiking. Ginny and Jim provided great tips on hiking and places to visit! The location was great to see different parts of main while driving to and from acadia! The blueberry muffins in the morning we’re the greatest touch and delicious! We will definitely be back!

  • Everything was fantastic- what a gorgeous home in a quiet setting! Space was immaculate and every need met. Close enough to everything in the area without being in a busy area. We had one of Wayne’s great dinners- our teens enjoyed helping with cooking the lobsters and getting help learning how to eat lobsters and clams. Wayne was a patient and gracious host. Definitely recommend this place!

    Tracey2018-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place and a wonderful host. The loft is nice , clean , cozy, and includes separate bedroom. We liked everything about this place , nice backyard morphing into a forest , big patio perfect for a morning coffee and above all the hospitality. We have felt welcomed from the moment we have arrived. Thank You Wayne.

    Mariusz2018-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Wayne's home is super comfortable, spacious and has all the right touches to make it a wonderful vacation. We especially liked how CLEAN the space was and the thoughtful amenities he left to welcome us. The beds were comfortable, the shower great, and the living space roomy enough to spread out. We liked that it was so close to SW harbor (a 5 minute drive) that we could easily get to our favorite restaurants. We were a little out of season, but Red Sky was open, so I was happy. From Wayne's house you can walk to Long Pond (maybe a 10-15 minute walk thru blueberry barrens) a pristine, peaceful lake, at the bottom of his street. Wayne rents kayaks which he will transport to the lake for you. And we especially liked Jimmy the beagle, what a sweet guy! Thanks Wayne, it was a pleasure to stay with you and I am looking forward to coming back!

  • Jeff and Betts place was really cute and the perfect location to get away from the city and explore Acadia. Only a half an hour away from Bar Harbor and 20 minutes away from. Cadillac mountain. There were many activities in the house and many kitchen supplies to cool, including a slow cooker that we cooked delicious peppers in. We would recommend to anyone!!!

    Julia2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff and Bett's place was cozy, clean, and perfectly located if you want easy access to Bar Harbor, Acadia, Seal Harbor, and even Ellsworth. There was a grocery store about five minutes down the road, which was helpful. And the bed was extremely comfortable. Definitely recommend if you want a private place with easy access to cool stuff around the area.

    Jessica2017-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • It was absolutely spotless! Location was great for hiking around Ship Harbor and Wonderwall. Really pretty part of the island and Bar Harbor was only about 30 mins away. We did a lot of cooking and the kitchen was very well stocked.

    Morgan2017-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and great hosts. Wish we could have stayed longer and hope to come back one day. Plenty of thoughtful extras by the hosts and a nice spacious apartment.

    Kristin2018-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • House was great! Just the right size for my boyfriend and I - we stayed a week. About a half hour from the main Acadia attractions but well worth it given the price and it's not a bad drive. Very close to a lot of good places to eat and get ice cream. Also close to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse which is a great place to watch the sunset!

    Megan2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best places to stay when visiting Acadia! Private, clean, cared for, centrally located, and with a wonderful host--this is the best place that we have found for the value near Acadia! Beautiful stargazing right in the backyard as well! Wonderful combo of privacy and a quiet neighborhood with being centrally located to anything you could need--30min drives.

    Colleen2017-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect little apt with the most comfy bed. Close to all that the island offers.

    Sarah2016-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable & convenient to the "quiet side of Acadia". The drive to the Loop Road was under 30 min. The apartment is well equipped and we were able to fix our meals and save a lot of money by not eating out.

The Hideaway is a small summer cabin, which is great for 2 people, located on a family compound of 8 acres, just a 5 minute walk into the heart of downtown Southwest Harbor. We are a 5 minute drive to an Acadia Park entrance, and 20 min drive to Bar Harbor. Close to restaurants, family activities, Echo Lake for swimming, and public transport. You’ll love our place because of the coziness. Good for couples, or solo adventurers. It is a small open plan cabin.
The Hideaway is a summer cabin on a compound with other homes. It is a welcoming place to come home to after a day exploring the island.
Our compound is located at the end of the last side street before the center of town. You are within walking distance to restaurants, galleries, gardens, and the town dock. We recommend Red Sky for fine dining. The Butterfly gardens are on the water and beautiful!
  • Really great property. Hideaway is nestled into a little community of similar cabins with a central area for anything you may need, a fire pit, a few well-placed buddhas and a vegetable garden. Really short walk to the main road; there is a bar (Joe's) and laundromat on the corner. Quick drive into SW Harbor and to nearby trailheads like Flying Mtn. Great hosts + his parents who gave us a little tour of the property on the way in and were extremely hospitable and friendly throughout our stay!

    Jake2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very pleasant and quiet stay here. The accommodations were cozy but perfect for us. Communication was seller and we got great recommendations on places to see in southwest Harbor. It was a pleasant surprise to find that it was only a few minutes walk to downtown southwest Harbor where there are great restaurants for all meals of the day. I would definitely recommend staying here and will do so again myself in the future if the opportunity ever comes up.

    Maya2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little find. Cosy and very well-equipped. Marc is a great host and very willing to assist with providing help and recommendations. On the quiet side of the island so a drive to get to some of the main sights but it makes for a peaceful location.

    Caroline2017-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, excellent location- quieter than East side but still close to lots of attractions and Acadia!

    Andrew2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Close to many trails without the chaos of being too close to bar harbour. Secluded spot with a good amount of privacy with lots of travel options to see what acadia park has to offer. Great time!

    Luke2017-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place was extremely quiet and relaxing, quick walk to the nearest town. We didn't spend a ton of time there since we were hiking most of the time, but the place was accommodating. For a small place, the shower was a decent size!

    Amanda2017-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying here and it was a perfect base from which to explore Acadia and do some hiking. Marc was an excellent host who was extremely informative and helpful, and was very prompt to respond to any and all questions we had (and gave a great recommendation for dinner in the area!). Getting to enjoy some fresh veggies from the garden on the property was an unexpected bonus too! We plan to come back to Acadia and explore more trails soon, and I'm sure we'll plan to stay here again when we do!

    Kali2017-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Hideaway is a great little cabin, and we highly recommend it to future guests. The location is beautiful, surrounded by nature, and perfect for exploring Acadia. Marc and his family are very friendly and accommodating to all guest needs. The local information and recommendations were very useful. We would definitely stay again!

Lovely home on the harbor with wonderful views of the ocean. Walking distance of downtown Southwest Harbor. Sleeps 12 and well appointed accommodations mean your Maine vacation can be anything you dream.
The house is part historic building but has been tastefully added onto. There is a walk out basement, with bedroom, bath and common area complete with ping-pong table, a first floor with living, dining,TV rooms, a room with pull out couch and a well appointed eat-in kitchen with wonderful water views. The upstairs has the master bedroom with ensuite bath and 2 bedrooms that share a bath. All bedrooms have water views.
  • This is a really lovely home right on the water within walking distance to the small town. A great space for family or friend gatherings. Jane was very accommodating about arrival and departure times as well. Definitely recommend!

    Kay2018-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful home is located on the quiet side of Mt Desert Island which was perfect for a peaceful, relaxing family vacation. We especially loved the comfortable sitting areas, wide selection of books, and the kitchen, which is loaded with amenities. When we ventured out to Acadia National Park we were thrilled with the location of this home. We hope to visit again and we are grateful for the host's prompt replies, hospitality and excellent recommendations.

    Aaron2018-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jane’s home is great and just as described, if not better. The location on the water can’t be beat, and the small town of Southwest Harbor is a short drive to all of Acadia. The home was very clean and well equipped with everything needed, and Jane was responsive and helpful. Would recommend booking this home for any vacation in Acadia.

15% off special for last full weeks of summer: 8/25 through 9/7/18. 3 day stay minimums also available now. Locally owned by an Island family of several generations, Black Dog Watch is a newer home on an elevated property across the harbor, offering wonderful views of Southwest Harbor. Walk into town and enjoy SWH and MDI while leaving your car behind.
The house is a duplex with the owner living in the upstairs unit. Summer rental rates include all 4 bedrooms with the entire downstairs apartment and the large deck. Summer months are for full weeks only, with Saturday afternoon check in time. Fall, Winter, and Spring rental prices start with 2 of any of the bedrooms along with the rest of the downstairs apartment and the large deck outside. When adding extra people beyond the initial 4, we will open more bedrooms with 2 people per room. Well behaved and well mannered dogs are allowed AFTER DISCUSSING WITH OWNERS FIRST. We have rules for the pups that we want to go over with folks before they bring their dogs including not leaving them alone for more than a couple hours to go to supper, etc and not allowing them on the beds. We've heard some very sad dogs complaining downstairs for several hours on end. For the sake of the poor dog's loneliness (along with our neighbors and our ears) we want to be clear on the rules ahead of time is all!
Southwest is a nice quiet village on Mount Desert Island that has a great Main Street atmosphere without the level of crowding that is found on other parts of the Island. There are several restaurants and pubs, hiking trails, a bike shop, barber, ice cream, wine, bakery, etc etc.
  • Luke and Jackie are outstanding hosts. They respond very promptly to questions, and they have great insight to Mount Dessert Island. Their tips about places to visit, provisions, and restaurants are spot on. They were immediately available, friendly, and made us feel very welcome. They are supportive but not intrusive. The property is well kept and very comfortable. The view of southwest harbor is beautiful and it is conveniently located. We especially appreciated use of the grill. We highly recommend Luke and Jackie as hosts.

  • We appreciated the view of the harbor and being able to walk to the center of Southwest Harbor for food. We like being on the quiet side of the island, and enjoyed the short walks at Wonderland and Ship Harbor. The host and hostess are in the process of upgrading the property and told us that they will soon have a new driveway and landscaping in place, which will be welcome. The kitchen was well stocked and convenient. The king size beds were very comfortable. We were two couples and a baby and did not have a problem with the 1 1/2 bath configuration.

    Rachel2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Luke and Jackie were very friendly and helpful. The view from the home was spectacular and they were Very helpful with hiking ideas, places to eat etc. Luke is very knowledgeable about outdoor activities and sites to see. We were very happy with our stay.

  • Luke and Jackie were great hosts. They were very accommodating and always responded quickly to our questions. The location is awesome - so close to Acadia National Park! It's also really close to cute shops and restaurants. I would definitely return during warmer months to explore more.

    Southwest Harbor, Maine, Estados Unidos

Visiting Mt Desert Island and Acadia National Park? Stay here on the Quietside and be close to all park amenities without the Bar Harbor tourist atmosphere.
Southwest Harbor, Maine, is located at the southwestern entrance to Somes Sound on Mount Desert Island. It is often referred to as the “quiet side” of the island because of the more mellow - less touristy ambiance. Bits of Acadia park are located all over the Island. Walk out my front door and you can be in the Park in ten minutes. Bar Harbor is about 20 minutes away. Southwest Harbor has some great shops, galleries and eateries worth checking out. It is a 22 minute walk away. Numerous, less crowded park hikes are available on the "Quiet Side." Many people choose the Quiet Side" for their visit to Acadia National Park. Pickup from BGR or BHR extra on request. In the summer you can do without a car using the LL Bean subsidized Islander bus. I moved here from the Bay Area in California because of the special feeling the island and its people provide. You'll love it too. My home is on Seal Cove Rd in Southwest Harbor. 1/3 mile off Main Street and 2 houses before Freeman Ridge Rd. You can see Somes Sound from my driveway. I have lots of info/maps/hiking guides/excursion brochures/restaurant recommendations available. For guests, there is a queen bedroom. If you require both the single and the queen room let me know and I will give you the "special offer" price of $110/night. Sorry, meal preparation in the kitchen is not allowed. I serve a breakfast of bagels or muffins or scones with juice/coffee/tea/yogurt and fruit. If you have food allergies, are gluten free, no-carb, lactose intolerant, vegan or anything else that would make this breakfast unacceptable, please let me know when you reserve. Rental of whole house sometimes available.
  • Carole's house was fantastic and perfectly located for our stay. This is a spot where we will definitely return!

    Kimberly2013-08-28T00:00:00Z

    Isabelle 2015-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay with Carol. She had great suggestions and local tips for us. The location was nice and quiet; close to lots of nice hikes and not too far from Bar Harbor. She was very accommodating of our schedule and breakfast was a great way to start our days.

    Alison2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Carol was really nice and welcoming ! She gave us great advices about what we had planned (she told us where were the best spots for the sunrise and the sunset, amazing!) and also lent us her cards of the region. We've spent three days, the room was clean with a lot of space, and breakfast was also delicious (best homemade scones in Maine!) By car, everything is really close to the house. You can also watch Football with Carol if you're a fan !

    Charles2013-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Carol's place was perfect for exploring Acadia and MDI. We had a ton of private space and the bed was heavenly! Carol helped us pick out our activities and was full of wonderful suggestions.

    Maddie2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Carol was very responsive when reservations were made and during our visit. Her home is quiet, very pleasant, clean, and comfortable. We enjoy the quiet when on vacation. There are no pets; it is comfortable for those with allergy concerns. Breakfast is easy and simple and even pack-able. Carol has lots of info for the area on hand and sent us out with a local shopping discount card. The water company down the street has the Blues Brothers statues on the roof! And Acadia National Park property is literally feet away. Thanks Carol!

    Jacki2014-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very clean and roomier than it appears from outside. Was worried about sharing just one bathroom. But it was never a problem at all. We were the only two guests and Carol was very gracious to let us have full use of the bathroom at all times. She also provided useful information on hiking and lent us maps and guidebook. The location turned out to be perfect for us to cover some hiking trails on the "quiet side" of the island. We had a wonderful time staying at Carol's place.

    Faye2014-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • I could not have asked for a better Airbnb experience! Carol was interesting and informative; the space was great and the location was as listed.

Beautiful two story contemporary, passive solar 1000+ sq. ft. guest house. Views of Bass Harbor with the Swan Island Ferry at the end of the drive. Within a half mile of Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Acadia NP and in season restaurants and shops.
Cathedral ceiling with, "reverse living", that is the bedroom and one bathroom are located on ground floor. Two decks with the upper deck affording views of Bass Harbor and the surrounding islands.
Bass Harbor is the quintessential Maine fishing village and the only true one on Mt. Desert Island. The lobster scenes of the movie, "Cider House Rules", were filmed in the harbor. The area is known as, "the quiet side", of the island without the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor.
  • Great place to stay about 30 minutes from Acadia and Bar Harbor...pretty drive in each day. Super close to Bass Harbor Lighthouse and ferry. Thurston’s Lobster Pound was the PERFECT place to get your lobster; five minutes away and right on the water.

  • It is a 2 storey home, spacious & clean. It has 2 bedrooms downstairs with bathroom and a large kitchen and living room upstairs with a Queen size sleeper sofa and an upstairs bathroom. Its on the waterfront and very near the Bass Harbor Lighthouse & Swan's island Ferry.

  • Fred and his family was very welcoming and had lots of suggestions on what to do! This was the cutest little place!!

    Olivia2018-05-13T00:00:00Z

  • This is a very comfortable, clean and well-kept two-story cottage that's attached to the owner's house by a covered walkway. The owners were available if needed, but truly respected our privacy. The house is on the "Quiet Side" of Mt. Desert Island, a 30-minute ride from downtown Bar Harbor--right where we wanted to be away from the mobs--and near great hiking, vistas, kayaking, and Southwest Harbor. Perfect!

    Lisa2018-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Fred’s place was a great option for our night on the quiet side. The only thing we didn’t love was that the doors wouldn’t lock, however we were very happy with our stay overall!

    Megan2018-05-18T00:00:00Z

Echo Lake, the beaches, Acadia National Park, and the harbor are a 5-minute drive away, and it's an easy walk to the Farmer's Market, restaurants, Hamilton Marine, the Sailboat School, and Beal's Lobster Pier. We welcome your children over age 2, and your well-behaved house-trained dogs (maximum two)!
All of the shops, restaurants, cafes, galleries, and the harbor in Southwest Harbor are a few steps from the door. The Farmers' Market is across the street. Very close to Acadia National Park, Echo Lake, the Charlotte Rhoades Butterfly Garden, and the ferry to the Cranberry Isles.
  • I loved this spot so much! Just steps from cafes and shops of Southwest harbor but with easy off street parking. I was there in the off-season so not everything was open but I fell in love with that area and Mary's apartment! It was warm and cozy and had everything I needed. I didn't want to leave!

    Allyson2018-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful time at Mary's place. The Gallery house is perfect if you are looking to spend some time in Acadia. Not only is it convenient, Mary is such a wonderful host and really put in the extra effort to make sure we were having a good time and had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend.

  • Nice apartment with restaurants a couple blocks away. Great books on the shelves!

    Mike2018-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • The most artistic Airbnb I've ever seen! Definitely good for families. There is even a mini kitchen in one of the two bedrooms. Mary is super considerate and helpful - thank you!!! Hope we could meet her in person. The only complaint I'd like to mention is we came in mid May and there was no restaurant open after 8pm in the nearby area (maybe it's different in peak season). I'd suggest finishing dinner in Bar Harbor. Everything else is awesome!

    Alice2018-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place is great for 4 people visiting Acadia National Park. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay. We also cooked lobsters got from Parsons in the upstairs kitchen. So nice to have all the right tools ready to cook and eat lobsters! The National Park is great for outdoor lovers.

    Kay2018-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Mary and Mark had the place all set up for us. Notes are left all over offering information. The space was perfect, and the location was quite. Perfect

    Julia2018-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time staying at Mary’s gallery apartment. She was a great host and very helpful! Everything was as it is pictured and we thoroughly enjoyed the proximity to Bar Harbor and Acadia while we were there. Would definitely stay again!

    Patricia2018-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • Mary's place was fantastic. It was cozy and comfortable, and having the kitchenette was a big plus. The proximity to other places was also really nice; we could just walk down Main Street to pick up food at the market or grab dinner at a restaurant, and many of the trails and lakes on the west side of MDI were just a short drive away. Mary was a great host as well-- super kind and accommodating. Would absolutely come back again!

  • Shawn's place is the perfect outpost from which to explore Southwest Harbor. Located right smack-dab in the middle of town, we could easily walk to anything/everything that we might want/need during our stay (Sawyer's Market, restaurants, drug store, etc.), which was especially nice in the colder months! Very spacious and clean, the apartment itself had more than enough space for us and it was very easy to make ourselves at home. Thanks Shawn!

  • Such an amazing place - a true home away from home. There's everything you need and it's right in the center of town. Everything was very clean, comfortable, and Shawn truly made it easy to know where to go in town for all the basics in the off season!

    Gershwin2017-12-31T00:00:00Z

  • This was our repeat visit to "On Island Time". This apartment fit our needs quite well. I loved that it is in the center of town so that good dining was steps away. It's comfortable and nicely decorated. Check in/out was super-easy. Nice host.

  • Shawn’s place is a perfect home base, close to a lot of hiking, and walkable to shops. The photos honestly don’t do his place justice, as it’s even larger than you would expect, and extremely clean. The kitchen is well stocked if you wanted to do some cooking, and he was nice enough to welcome us with a bottle of wine. I highly recommend staying here!

  • An exceptionally clean, spacious, and comfortable two-bedroom apartment with one bath and large kitchen. Southwest Harbor is the ideal location for visiting Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park, especially if you prefer the "quiet side" of the island away from the tourist madness of Bar Harbor. Good restaurants, two grocery stores, and everything you need close by, plus quick access to all the attractions of the park. Shawn is an outstanding host with quick response to all communications. Highly recommended!

  • On Island Time is just as described. Two nice bedrooms, and a clean and tidy living room/kitchen. It's nicely decorated, and everything is clearly labeled with clear instructions for their use. This cozy seaside cottage on the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island has panoramic views of Southwest Harbor and the Cranberry Islands. Watch the boats and tide come and go from your bed! High tide splashes below the cantilevered deck. The quaint downtown where you can shop and dine is just a 3/10 mile walk along a sidewalk. There are several ways to access Acadia National Park hiking and swimming just 2-3 miles away; Bar Harbor is a 30 minute drive. The cottage is ideal for couples or families.
The original structure (the kitchen and bedroom above) was built in the early 1900's and like many buildings in the inner harbor, was used by fisherman to bait their hooks and mend their traps before heading out to fish for cod, halibut, lobster, etc. My family acquired the cottage in the 1980's and spent twenty-five memorable years watching the tide and boats come and go. We hope that you enjoy your stay as much as we did.
The cottage is located on the waterfront in a residential neighborhood just past the center of the village shops and dining, within minutes of several entrances to Acadia National Park. The view of the harbor activity of the yachts coming and going from Dysart's Marina to the right and the lobster boats to and from Beal's Lobster Wharf to the left certainly make this a unique location with endless entertainment.
  • Perfect cottage for a small group of friends or family right on the water. Couldn't have been an easier check-in/out. Totally stress free and comfortable experience.

    Henry2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • A cozy house with amazing views out onto the water. I could have sat all day and watched the tides go in and out. Very nice to have the little town within walking distance for food and groceries. Would definitely stay again!

This 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom spacious apartment with lots of natural light is located in the quaint little fishing village of Bernard on Bass Harbor very close to Acadia National Park with many beautiful hiking trails and carriage roads. Within walking distance, is the restaurant Thurston's Lobster Pound. They have great lobsters, fish chowder and lobster stew. My favorite is the lobster BLT.
This newly renovated 1 bedroom apartment is located on the first floor of the Old School House, a large historic building in the village of Bernard located on the quietside of the island of Mount Desert Island and within minutes to Acadia National Park and a 30 minute drive to Bar Harbor, a bustling little town with many bars, restaurants and cruise ship dock. There are many interesting boat tours from Bar Harbor such as whale watching and nature tours. In the apartment, the living room and bedroom have an open large spacious living plan. We have an outdoor grill for your use and also a bocce court for those inclined.
The village of Bernard is a typical Maine coastal community. There are many quaint shingled homes that sit looking over Bass Harbor. It is a huge lobstering Harbor with many old and new lobster boats. You can buy lobsters right from the fisherman off the dock. There are also many artists who live here with an art workshop and art galleries right nearby.
  • Good, inexpensive spot near Acadia. On a property with several guest units and shares a building with another rental unit and the owner's painting area. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook a simple meal each night. Bed was comfortable. The only thing that was missing was someplace for recycling -- we ended up carrying all our old cans, bottles, and papers home with us.

  • Very relaxing cabin off the beaten pathon the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. Ginny and Jim had everything ready for us with plenty of recommendations for activities while we were there.

  • Very nice for the money

    Wendell2018-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place to stay in a small town within 30min drive of the main parts of Acadia National Park but not in the busier areas people tend to stay. Ginny and Jim provided great suggestions about restaurants, hiking, and a small beach in the area. We especially enjoyed Thurston’s Lobster Pound just a few minutes away. We also enjoyed using the grill they provided outside the apartment. When there was a problem with the grill, they provided another one right away and were very helpful. Guests may want to be aware that due to the nature of the building shared with others and thin walls, it may feel like close quarters. There is another apartment directly above and we often heard other guests walking around, using the shower, etc. There is also an artist’s studio right next to this apartment with windows (with blinds) that open into the studio next to the bedroom and the bathroom. Everything within the apartment was great, we appreciated the things provided in the kitchen, and enjoyed the space.

    Melissa2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great value. 30 min from bar Harbor. There is another unit upstairs as well as an art gallery and art studio within the building. Newly renovated and very clean. Not much of an outdoor space So if you plan to relax outside most of your stay, this place is not for you but for a relaxing night after being out in the Park All day, it was perfect.

If you want to be near the action of an active and interesting harbor, this is the place for you. You will have a front row seat to spectacular morning sunrises over the harbor, the comings and goings of the fishermen and the many boats docked at the marina and anchored in the harbor. This spacious four bedroom two and a half bath home is located at the great harbor marina just half a mile from downtown Southwest Harbor. Walk to restaurants, art galleries, specialty shops and more.
Located on the edge of the harbor in what is known as the old coal wharf, this beautifully restored building has a stunning view from every window. You will be able to see all the boats coming and going in and out of the harbor. Walk down the ramp to the boats and meet the local fishermen as they unload their catch. Cook fresh lobster in the fully stocked kitchen or use the outside grill.
The neighborhood is an active, working harbor. Our harbor is the summer home to luxury yachts, beautiful sailboats and lobster boats. The osprey and eagle, seals and ducks also call it home. People come down to the harbor to view the boats, buy lobster, take in the sights and sounds, grab a bite at the nearby restaurant or just to sit by the waters edge.
  • A spacious apartment with lovely views and a 20-minute drive to Bar Harbor. The windows wrap around the entire apartment allowing for fantastic breezes and scenery.

    Jennifer2018-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our group loved the apartment. It is accurately described in the listing - yes, there is some noise because it's a working harbor. But that didn't bother our group of 8 friends. The apartment was lovely and large enough for 8 adults - we had a wonderful time. The views out the windows of the living room were great. Beds were comfy, and plenty of extra towels, blankets, etc. Nice dining room table plus an extra table in the living room that we quickly assigned as the "puzzle table." (What's a vacation without some puzzle action??) Nancy was very responsive via text when we had questions. Check in was a breeze - so easy with the key code. You can walk to a couple restaurants and stores a quick half mile away. Driving to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor is very do-able, just about 30 minutes. There are also a bunch of hiking options even closer on "the quiet side." We would definitely return and hope to book again on a future trip.

  • Our group (two families with kids) loved staying at the Coal Wharf. It was a fun place to base our Acadia exploring out of. Light, open, airy, pleasant space to hang out. Kitchen, living, dining area very welcoming. Fantastic views from every window. Bedrooms comfortable. Right on the working waterfront in Southwest harbor. Good day hikes just a few miles up the road. We loved it. Easy to find, host communicated clearly. All good! We can’t wait to come back next year!!

    Ellen2018-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay while experiencing Southwest Harbor! My husband and I were traveling with our three adult children. It was perfect for them to each have a bedroom. The space is bigger than it appears online, and beautifully decorated. We could easily walk into the quaint little town for yoga or groceries. A great little bakery and coffee shop opened next door, and a bar with a beautiful view was right at the top of the street. While in the midst of the marina activity, the apartment and deck felt private. We would highly recommend thus spot and hope to return!

    Jayne2018-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for a perfect family holiday!

    Claire2018-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place in Southwest Harbor! The pictures do not do it justice; it much exceeded our expectations. The view from the living area is magnificent, plus 2 of the 4 bedrooms have views. Be aware the 4th bedroom though does not have windows. All of the furnishings are very nice! It is a quick walk into town plus there is a bakery and restaurant just above the marina. There is also a little beach with clear clean water just below the place. It can be a little difficult to access, but well worth the climb. The only issue we encountered was on several very hot humid days without a breeze, the air conditioner could not cool the place and it became stifling hot inside. With a new air conditioner, the place would be pretty perfect!

    Danielle2018-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect for those who want space, convenience, luxury, comfort and spectacular beauty all in the same package. Because you are on the upper level, you have an optimum panorama of ever changing views - sunrise to sunset - of the harbor and beyond. You have a front-row seat of the local activity on the water and it's business. So glad this was offered .

    Don2018-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • Window Unit now in Living Room and Master Bedroom, windowsill fans in other 2 bedrooms that have windows to draw in cool night air and free standing fan in 4th windowless bedroom. Note, we realized one of the fans was sitting in the windowsill backwards after a few days and turned it around and it made a big difference so be sure and check the airflow. The place was so much more spacious than we expected which really helped us relax. Open concept and we LOVED all the windows. Our young adult kids did mention early morning dock noise a few times, but fell right back to sleep. I never heard it from the master. My husband is an early riser so he enjoyed watching all the action while we slept in. I was really worried about being hot especially at night with the lack of central A/C. Coming from coastal Texas we live with the a/c going almost year round, but thankfully we didn’t get too hot and the addition to the a/c in the master was a definite plus. We also didn’t have a problem on the higher temp/ humid days that a few locals complained about, but to us it wasn’t bad considering where we live. But I am assuming that was the reason another a/c was dropped of and we were appreciative. There were several board games in the buffet in the dining room and the table behind the couch folds out into an additional (gaming) table if needed. We really enjoyed Quiteside Cafe for ice cream (many nights) and dinner one night and found it very reasonable compared to some other places. We also like Beals Lobster Pound and they have good burgers as well. We are ready to go back to Maine and would definitely stay here again. The host, Nancy and Mike, are both great and get back with you quickly. I really appreciated them both.

Tucked away a few steps from a small beach and shared dock, Port Garden is just the place for your romantic getaway. Patio doors look out over a working harbor on the "Quietside" of Mount Desert Island. Walk or paddle to some of the best restaurants on the island! The Island Explorer bus stops right outside with car free access to Acadia National Park. 25 minutes to Bar Harbor and Caddillac Mountain. 5 Minutes to Echo Lake, numerous hiking trails, shops, live music and a playground.
Mount Desert is home to endless outdoor adventures including peerless hiking and carriage trails, beaches, and lakes. Enjoy swimming at the pristine Echo Lake, golfing at the Causeway Club (open to non-members), or lobster eating wherever! Borrow a canoe or kayak from the dock, rent bikes in town, or head to Bar Harbor for rock climbing or a whale watch. Take a ferry ride to a sunset dinner at the farm-to-table Islesford Dock Restaurant, or rent your own sailboat and explore Northeast Harbor across the sound. For those not familiar with the area, Southwest Harbor (a 3 minute drive away) is an absolute gem. Take in the sunset over cocktails at the historic Claremont Hotel's Boat House Restaurant. Enjoy some of the island's best fine dining at Red Sky, casual outdoor dining at Beal's Lobster Pound (3 minute walk), or take a break from lobster with some traditional rustic Mexican fare and margaritas at XYZ (just across the harbor). Southwest also features gift shops, galleries and cafes, as well as a bakery, an excellent wine shop, and a boutique grocery. This is the quiet side of the island; all the beauty of Acadia without the volume of tourist and cruise ship traffic you will find in Bar Harbor. On nearby Beech, Acadia, and Western Mountains, you will find old growth forests, stunning views of Echo Lake, Long Pond and Blue Hill Bay, and rarely encounter another hiker before noon. Just down the road, Ship Harbor and Wonderland offer casual strolls to some of Acadia's most precious coastline vistas. Don't forget to visit Bass Harbor Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in New England!
  • Port Garden is a perfect spot for 1-2 people--well appointed living, dining, bath and bedroom. Beautiful view from all rooms. Easy access to town and the harbor. Hope I can stay here next time I'm in SW Harbor.

  • This was the second trip to Bar Harbor for my girlfriend and I. We wanted to stay closer to the water than last time so this place, being waterfront, was perfect. The house was clean and just as described and the pictures don't do the views justice. The location and views are amazing! The house provides just enough space and everything you need to be comfortable for your stay. You do share the property with others but, aside from a little noise from people staying in the place above us which is expected, we barely even noticed anyone else. We had our privacy and really enjoyed our stay. We highly recommend staying at Jon's place!

    Michael2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Accurate description, fast communication, private parking, private decks, beds were comfortable, great spot for couples. The kayaks and plenty of life jackets were easy to access.

    Crystal2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Pics don't do it justic. Love love love. Great location, spectacular view. Place is very cozy & charming. Nice outdoor deck seating area w grill & privacy. Quiet area... at least when we were there in the spring. 2 ways to access water (via steps directly in front or dock just a few steps away). Nice heat. Very clean. Wonderful comfy king bed w down comforter & many pillows. Did I say how comfy the bed was? Thank you for the King bed! View of the water from the bed is a bonus. Nice windows to let in air & sun. Adorable kitchen w microwave, stove oven & Dishwasher! Nice new stackable washer & dryer in unit. Kayaks available for use. 2 parking spots. Fast/good internet & tv. Hot water w good water pressure. Everyone we've met has been very nice & friendly. Owners are friendly & helpful. Fix a cup of coffee in the morning or glass of wine in the evening & relax on the deck enjoying the gorgeous view. We brought our kayaks & kayaked a lot of the area. My trip review will be up in a few weeks on the bar harbor trip adviser board. We stayed for 2 weeks & were so glad we did. Overall... Fabulous & so glad we stayed. Would absolutely stay again. To be fair, I always try to offer some suggestions from a guests point of view but have very few - very very minor. A hand towel rack in the bathroom. Nice window shelving helped tho. A bowed shower curtain rod like some hotels have would give more room in the shower. Maybe some inexpensive cushions for the outdoor chairs & an umbrella for sunny days. A little table for grill, clock & luggage rack in the closet for suitcase would add to the perfectness of this place. Other than that, which are just some minor helpful things... Certainly not deal breakers, I wouldn't change a thing. It's very very charming & cozy. The landscaping is beautiful. The view & comfy bed after a long day can't be beat. The kitchen has everything u need including a lobster steaming pot. My husband fished right from the dock which was nice. I would absolutely recommend this & stay here again. I imagine in the fall, the view is even better & because your in the southwest harbor, quiet & away from the crowds of bar harbor but still close to everything. Nice restaurants and views nearby. Love it! Thanks for a GREAT vacation. Also, if you hear the crows flying over, be sure to look uo as they are probably chasing an eagle. We saw eagles flying over several times. Gorgeous!

    Kelly2018-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • The view from this unit will make you not want to leave Acadia or go hiking! This unit has a great location to Southwest Harbor within walking distance to its downtown but yet away from any hustle and bustle. I've stayed in multiple place in Acadia over the past 20 years and this is by far the best!

    Michael2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • As advertised, this is a quiet little cottage by the harbor. Couple of great restaurants are right around the corner and Acadia is close enough to run back and forth. Jon was super responsive and we would stay there again!

    Matthew2017-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little cottage next to the harbor, little porch was perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee on in the morning. The area has restaurants in walking distance, and Acadia is just a short drive away.

  • This quaint place has a gorgeous view and is in a quiet location. We loved watching the boats over coffee in the morning. Communication was always easy and quick and the check-in and check-out process was a breeze. Lovely little cottage that we would stay in again and recommend to friends.

This marina side condo is where it's at if you like summer living! Spend your day leisurely watching the lobster boats come and go in amongst a modern marina with some sensational summer yachts! This location is just a 5 minute walk to area restaurants, galleries, shops, tennis courts, etc. Only a 5 minute drive to Acadia sites, Bass Harbor Head light, Seawall, Somes Sound, Echo Lake, etc.
This location is just a five minute walk to the village of SWH. Many shops, specialty food store, restaurants, etc.
  • We stayed at the Stern unit during our visit in Acadia. It's located close to central southwest harbor, the quietside. We absolutely loved everything about the unit. You can't be closer to water than this unless you are paying 10k a week for your water front rental. The unit is all clean and cute. Very updated and nautical! The unit is fully equipped with all the kitchen stuff you can think of, include a large lobster pot and all the gadgets for lobsters and crabs. We didn't get a chance to cook lobsters because our schedule is too packed! Definitely highly recommend to anyone traveling to Acadia!

  • This was the best Airbnb I've ever stayed at and I've stayed at quite a few. Christie even moved us to a better condo after our reservations got mixed up a bit. The beautifully decorated condo is in directly on the pier in southwest Harbor. It's absolutely gorgeous, beach themed and very stylish. My 20 something year old son's and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would do so again in a heartbeat! Thank you again Christie, you made our experience completely memorable and unforgettable.! What a wonderful place to stay in quant Southwest Harbor and a great jumping-off point to explore all of Mount Desert Island, Maine. Thanks again, Fay

  • The Marina was a unique and picturesque place to stay. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfortable enough. I liked that there were two bathrooms.

    Ruth2017-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • The place itself, inside was perfect. Very spacious, clean, very well equipped and stocked. Very comfortable. Also, the location direct at the harbour with bars and restaurants in walking distance was very nice. The only downside for us was the noise (heard every step of the upstairs and next door neighbour's and trucks unload directly in front of the windows). But we got used to it and took it with humour. Otherwise, this place is just perfect!

Attached apartment on an occupied rented house, but with a private entrance. Across the street from the ocean, and a half mile from downtown Southwest Harbor. Access to ocean and waterfront area. Two night minimum stay. Located on Mount Desert Island's "quietside," with Acadia National Park a 5 minute drive away. Please know this is a very old house. There is a steep staircase, and the sleeping area is in an attic/loft. Can see ocean from bedroom and dining area.
Enter into an open living room/ dining room/ kitchen space. The bathroom with a stand-up shower is located off of the kitchen, with the kitchen sink doubling as the bathroom sink. In this main room there is a futon for if your party has more than two people. The table looks out towards the harbor. Upstairs, in an attic-loft, you will find the main sleeping area. The design is ship-like and efficient.
The town of SW Harbor has a handful of restaurants and shops to enjoy. You can also head over to Bar Harbor for a greater selection. Everywhere on the island has incredible seafood options.
  • Great location with easy access to Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park. Host is welcoming and made our 4th of July stay a memorable one.

  • Our stay at Caitlin's was great! Good location and Caitlin was a super helpful host. Would definitely recommend her as a host.

    Chris2018-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Caitlin’s. Away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to walk to shops or make a quick drive to trails. The water spot across the street was wonderfully relaxing. We’d stay with Caitlin again in a heartbeat!

    Deb2018-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Caitlin's home was the perfect place to rest after a long day in Acadia. As mentioned in the listing, it is an old house, but very clean and stocked with everything we needed (including shampoo and soap - always extremely appreciated at an airbnb!). The upstairs sleeping area comfortably fit a large dog bed and a pack and play in addition to the bed, with plenty of room to spare. The location is quiet and peaceful, but an easy walk to the main street of Southwest Harbor - perfect to walk to dinner - and an easy 25ish minute drive to bustling Bar Harbor. The skylight (you can see the stars at night!) does mean little ones will be up with the sun, but we didn't mind the 5:45am wake up call since there is so much do see and do in the park. Great stay!

    Julie2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Family of four (two adults, an 8yo, and a 5mo) had a great time here. The location is wonderful--right across from the water, walking distance to a charming main street, and in a quiet part of the island. My 8yo had a great time skipping rocks and looking for sea glass across the street. Overall this was a lovely home base for us to relax in the mornings and have a nice family meal after a long day hiking in Acadia. The apartment is cozy but not cramped--we had all the room we needed. It was lovely to see so many stars from the skylight on the second floor! It is an old building, so come prepared for older appliances, windows, etc. It took me a few hours to get used to the *slightly* un-level floor, so be aware if you have medical vertigo issues, etc. But the bottom line is that this was a charming, cozy, and comfortable place to stay and I loved it. Caitlin is a friendly and very helpful host. You won't regret meeting her and staying here!

    Aubrey2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place was in a great location being so close to Bar Harbor and Acadia. We enjoyed the waterfront access right across the street. The space is very old and very basic. Could be really nice with updates and repairs. Would not recommend to anyone over 5'9" as the bed and shower were short and small.

    Caroline2017-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Caitlin was easy to communicate with and very accomodating. The housing was perfect for our stay in Southwest Harbor! Our dog had a great time! The dock and fire pit across the street were great and a fun place to hang out!

    Margaret2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Buyer beware! We were excited to spend time in Caitlin’s rental, getting to know the Bar Harbor/Acadia area. Caitlin’s advance communications were excellent and I appreciated that she provided warnings regarding steep stairs after others provided feedback. We’re active and had come prepared to hike and climb, so a steep set of stairs wasn’t a concern. And, while others commented on the place being outdated, we appreciate the charm of old homes. *Until we got there* Upon arrival, we realized that the place was significantly more rustic than we expected and devoid of typical old-home charm. The stairs to the attic bedroom are not only steep, but the treads are very narrow and there’s no handrail. A ladder would have felt more safe. I’d be very concerned about children or older people using this space. The bedroom is an unfinished attic—uneven raw wood floors, etc. The bed is also extremely short; my boyfriend is 6’ and was unable to stretch out in it. Since air mattresses were available, we agreed to skip the depressing attic (and risk of falls) and sleep on the main floor. And, as there’s no comfortable place to sit, fireplace, tv, etc., we decided to while away the evening in a local coffee shop or tavern until we could return solely to sleep. And, this is where we encountered our most significant concern—the lock on the door doesn’t work. We could lock the door but not extricate the key—it was firmly stuck. We battled for several minutes and were concerned about breaking the key in the lock. Eventually we freed the key, but didn’t feel safe leaving our possessions on the other side of a broken lock. And, naturally, weren’t comfortable sleeping in a room we weren’t sure we could lock or escape. As we were unable to reach Caitlin, we reloaded our car and drove to a local “basic” hotel that was cheaper, far more comfortable, and felt like a castle in comparison. We were not refunded rental cost or even cleaning fees.

Spacious house for your large family or group. Dogs are welcomed. Bass Harbor is located on what's known as the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. Picturesque fishing villages, hiking trails, carriage paths, crystal clear lakes and rocky ocean vistas around every corner. All the pictures on this listing were taken within a 3 mile radius of Captain Wid's. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, this home is ideal for families and friend groups.

We have WIFI and Time Warner Cables on three T.V.'S A large capacity washer and dryer are located in a separate laundry room. Outside you will enjoy a large elevated deck with a gas grill and table with chairs.
Captain Wid's is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. It is several hundred yards from beautiful Bass Harbor which is known as a working harbor because of the many lobstering boats that call this harbor home. No cruise ships here. On foggy days you will hear the horn of the ferry to Swans Island.
  • Captain Wid's place was great with everything as described. Hosts were flexible and friendly and communication was great! Only thing I would note for potential guests is that this property is located in Bass Harbor, by Southwest Harbor, so to get to Bar Harbor and the main part of Acadia National Park it is about a 30 min drive - for us this was no problem and there is definitely plenty of park to explore on the Southwest side, too, but definitely something to note if you are not familiar with the area and are looking for a place close to Acadia's main entrance and trails. We loved this super clean and dog-friendly home - thank you for having us!!

  • Great, comfy home! Our family enjoyed it!!

    Meredith2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • My family enjoyed our stay at Wilfred's place so much we stayed an extra night! Large house that looks much nicer than the photos. We had plenty of room and enjoyed the deck in the cool evenings - plus an apple tree right of front! A short drive to a wonderful little town with restaurants and shops. A mile from some wonderful trails and a lighthouse. A 20 minute drive to Bar Harbor. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Carey2017-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Captain Wid's was perfect for our family vacation with our grown children and their friends. On a rainy day we had enough room to lounge and play board games. We had a lot of fun exploring the hikes and walks in Acadia National Park, plus it was close enough to drive over to the park loop road and Cadillac mountain. On clear nights the star-gazing was spectacular!

    Beth2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful home, sparkling clean and very comfortable for our family including our dog! Bass Harbor is beautiful and we enjoyed both Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor as well as the amazing hiking throughout Acadia. Bar Harbor is such a dog friendly town and was great for walking around and dining outside with our dog. Would absolutely recommend this home to anyone visiting the island.

    Denise2018-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time at Captain Wid's. Clean, spacious and everything we needed for a party of 8 to enjoy their stay.

    Susan2018-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very large and super clean. We all had plenty of room. Nice deck to relax on with a grill. Big kitchen if you want to do some home cooking. Located just a few miles from town with plenty of bakeries, coffee shops, restaurants, grocery store and cute little stores. A couple of very nice trails just a mile away as well as a lighthouse. A short drive to Bar Harbor. Great home! We will stay here again for sure!

A short walk from the town dock and three minute drive from the center of Southwest Harbor, this comfortable artist and musician's home has an expansive backyard and beautiful wrap-around porch for outdoor dining and relaxing in the sea air.
Soak in the salty air as you lounge on our eighty foot wrap-around porch and catch glimpses of Somes Sound through the maples. This sunny house features three bedrooms, all with comfy queen-sized beds. The large bedroom on the second floor has two beautiful southwest-facing windows and the other bedrooms face the water (one is on the first floor). The large bathroom on the second floor features a luxurious custom shower and antique claw-foot soaking tub. The first floor has a generous living room with a Steinway grand piano as the focal point, as well as a nice sound system with a turntable and records. This cook's kitchen is well-equipped with a gas stove, nice pots and pans, spices, olive oil and some baking basics so you can hit the ground running. It is designed as a hangout spot with an island that seats six for informal meals. There is no formal dining room, but the covered porch seats six for al fresco dining.
Shore Road boasts views of picturesque Manset Harbor with the backdrop of Acadia's majestic mountains. Here you can take a ferry ride to a sunset dinner at the farm-to-table Islesford Dock Restaurant, or rent your own sailboat and explore Northeast Harbor across the sound. Mount Desert is home to endless outdoor adventures including peerless hiking and carriage trails, beaches, and lakes. Enjoy swimming at the pristine Echo Lake, golfing at the Causeway Club (open to non-members), or lobster eating wherever! Bicycle and kayak rentals are available right in town, or head to Bar Harbor for rock climbing or a whale watch. For those not familiar with the area, Southwest Harbor (a 3 minute drive away) is an absolute gem, and Manset its most historic and beautiful seaside neighborhood, home of the famous Hinckley Marina and Boatyard, where some of the world's most iconic yachts spend the summer. Take in the sunset over cocktails at the historic Claremont Hotel's Boat House Restaurant. Enjoy some of the island's best fine dining at Red Sky, casual outdoor dining at Beal's Lobster Pound, or take a break from lobster with some traditional rustic Mexican fare and margaritas at XYZ (a five minute walk).
  • I cannot recommend Ryan & Keri's lovely home enough. Located on "the quiet side" of the island, I was delighted to find a beautifully decorated, comfortable and fully functional place for our week long getaway. All the things I really care about in an Airbnb were stellar: beyond clean, comfortable bed, hot shower, washer/dryer and great location. I would happily come back again and Ryan & Keri made it so easy for us. They were incredibly accommodating, responsive, warm and even left us a bottle of wine with which to kick off our week. We made liberal use of the record collection after days spent exploring as many of the hikes on the island as possible. Even in the off season there was so much to do and see. Being able to come "home" to a real home was a very special way to experience a very special place. Thanks so much guys! You made our week!

    Heather2016-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • This house is exactly as described. We had a wonderful time staying there, when we weren't out hiking! The porch was wonderful for sitting and enjoying a book or for eating meals. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is definitely a cook's kitchen. We were an extended family of six plus a dog and felt quite at home.

    Leah2018-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Keri and Ryan's place was a great place to call home for our family weekend together. The house was very clean and had every thing we needed for a relaxing time together. Thank you for being dog friendly!

    Jennifer2018-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and nice place! Antique and rustic feel, but beds were very soft and creaky, and there was no microwave. Otherwise, it is a quiet and beautiful home, great for a relaxing getaway.

    Henry2017-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • This artsy house has everything you need - dish soap, coffee filters, laundry on site, lots of towels, and plenty of hot water. It was better equipped than most air BnBs we’ve stayed at. It’s a great location -close to all the southwest harbor parts of the park and not too far from the busyness of bar harbor if you want it.

    Anne2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • This house was beautiful and amazing! We stayed for a week in July while we were having a destination wedding in Acadia. The bridal party stayed here and it was perfect! The fire pit was awesome; we also loved grilling dinner and eating on the back porch. Ryan and Keri were responsive and wonderful! We would love to stay here in the future.

    Kendall2016-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay in southwest harbor! Within 10 minute drive of great hiking trails, and 30 minutes to bar harbor. Fantastic music collection. Great porch and fire pit made for relaxing evenings.

    Trevor2016-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed this house. It was a great spot for our group - my husband and kids and I slept upstairs and my brother-in-law had his own room on the main floor. We hosted dinner with friends on the wraparound porch one night and the kitchen was nicely equipped. Also really appreciated having laundry! Some minor downsides of the house: it was a bit further drive from Acadia and Bar Harbor than we realized, the only bathroom is upstairs and there is no dining room. But we really enjoyed the charm of the home and the space we had there.

  • This is the ideal Airbnb to stay in when visiting this beautiful part of the country. It is removed from the busy part of the town, but just close enough to enjoy everything! The kitchen is so well stocked. The rooms outfitted for all family members. The bunk beds amazing. Steve and Amber were IDEAL hosts! Thank you so much.

    Lindsay2018-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great house! Very charming and very well decorated! We had 4 adult women and were all very comfy sleeping (I shared a king bed with my sister) There were 3 extra beds that we didn't use that were all accessible by a ladder, which would be perfect for kids or teenagers. Perfect location if you're looking for a quiet home in the woods yet close to town. The house was clean and had everything we needed in the kitchen and bathrooms. Will definitely come back! Thank you to Steve our very attentive host.

    Suzy2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best Airbnb I have been in! I would definitely recommend this place for bigger families/ groups in a heartbeat! It was really cozy and the beds were super comfortable (I felt like I was sleeping on clouds :). The entire cozy house could definitely fit more than 10! We had 3 regular sized adults in one of the queen bunk beds (meant for 2) and it was still comfortable. The kitchen was very inspiring for a home improvement project with cool shelving ideas yet maintaining functionality. The kitchen/pantry was very welcoming completely stocked with teas, hot chocolates, coffee, pots, and pans etc. Overall, a warm house and I felt the hospitality of Steve and Amber despite not seeing them both! :) Super easy to find, a great deal for the location on Mt Desert and the number of people it can house comfortably.

    Kimberly2018-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • The house is ideal for a smaller group. Beds are comfy and house clean. Perfect location and host really communicative. Would stay again.

    Paul2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Amber's cottage was incredible. Very private and so much space for the seven of us. Very accessible to Acadia National Park. Kitchen was well equipped, enough to cook for a lot of our meals!

    Hansel2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • My hubby remarked that they must be designers. Very clever how the space is used. Well worth the money for what you get. Super friendly hosts.

  • This place is wonderful! Incredibly charming and cozy. We made dinner at home often and breakfast every morning. Everything that you need is there! We plan to go back soon. We fell in Love with MDI and Steve and Amber's place! Don't hesitate to book. You won't regret it!

This location is less than a mile to area restaurants, galleries, shops, tennis courts, library, playground etc. You can walk downtown however there is a small stretch without a sidewalk. Only a 5 minute drive to Acadia sites, Bass Harbor Head light, Seawall, Somes Sound, Echo Lake, etc Bar Harbor is a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic
  • What a great find! The Cabin is cozy and efficient, with really great attention to detail in the design flourishes. It's a great place to just chill out in between visits to the local Acadia scenery. It's a great place!

    Matthew2017-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the cabin. We came for the first leg of our honeymoon road trip up to Canada and it was so incredibly relaxing! The space was very clean and comfortable. The architecture of the cabin is beautiful and it has a great screened-in porch. Bring bug spray! It’s a great quiet spot but still close enough to town with restaurants and shops. We hiked the flying mountain trail, which is about 10 minutes away from the cabin. Even on a very foggy day, it was beautiful! We definitely recommend it for a moderate hike close to the cabin! We would definitely stay here again.

    Leah2018-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I loved Michael's cabin. It's new, modern, charming, tastefully decorated, and smelled like wood (a particular feature that we love in a wooden house). The location is great for Southwest Harbor, but the cabin itself is not as secluded as it looks in the photo. It was quiet and private, however. Kristen was very helpful once we arrived, though we had some difficulty finding the cabin upon our arrival. I highly recommend Michael's cabin for your visit to Acadia!

    Karen2017-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great weekend. The cabin is very well done and charmingly quaint. It's in a very nice location for driving to Acadia and the surrounding areas. The bed was comfortable and the area quiet. Enjoyed our stay.

    Wesley2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's cabin is an excellent place to stay in Southwest Harbor. We loved it! It's clean, comfy, cozy, and beautiful. It's close to restaurants, shops, and hiking while still feeling like a secluded cabin in the woods. The hosts were very communicative and kind. We had a fabulous time! I highly recommend staying here. Can't wait to return.

    Lindsay2017-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I really enjoyed staying here while we explored Mt Desert Island. Great things to note: impeccably clean and new, fresh towels and crisp linens, secluded yet still very close to the quaint downtown, well decorated and cool architecture, charming and very cozy fireplace, close to hiking, ocean, great food, scenic drives, etc., great communication...Kristen was more than accommodating and ready to answer any questions or get us what we needed. Other things to be aware of: there is construction going on in the lot next door right now so we had that right out the window as well as some construction noise, we didn't get to spend time on the cute screened in porch because mosquitos still came up in through the floor. Overall, those were our only two concerns and we had a lovely, relaxing time staying here!!

    Kate2017-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable cabin and very communicative hosts! Great location in Acadia but not the best spot behind a business and next to a busy road. Would recommend but not for the price.

    PATTY2017-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, what a fabulous place. We found this cozy cabin to be well appointed with lots of unique touches. It's conveniently located but also nice and quietly away from the crowded chaos of Bar Harbor. Kristen and Richard were great hosts while also allowing our privacy. What a great find, one of our favorite Airbnbs ever!! If we return to this area we will definitely stay here again!

Ledge Lodge was owner built in 2017. This Cottage has a lot of charm, tongue and groove pine create a warm feel in this 16 x 22 cottage with all the amenities of home. Kitchen is complete with dishes and pots and fans to feed the hungriest crowd. There is a view of the ocean, and a short walk to a private beach owned by our favorite Grammy. The book shelf is stocked with comfort books as well as local trail guides. Ledge Lodge is the perfect place to relax.
Sorry, the cottage does not have an oven or cable TV. Local channels are accessable.
Ledge Lodge is located right next to a thriving Landscaping business. Guests who rise early, as does the business, are generally happiest here.
  • Our stay at the Ledge Lodge was a true Maine experience! The charming cottage accommodated four adults comfortably. The place was cozy, extremely well-kept and was filled with great books for planning your hikes around Acadia National Park. We loved the location of the Ledge Lodge because we had never explored this portion of the park before. It was a fifteen minute drive to some of the less well-known trails (which we found to be beautiful and unique) and about thirty minutes to the main entrance. Kathy was great throughout the entire booking process, and was exceptionally responsive. We only wish we could have stayed longer!

    Michelle2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is clean and roomy for 4/5 guests. The two bedrooms and full-size beds were comfortable. Kitchen and bathroom had all the necessary amenities. Living room area is comfortable but TV service is limited… But really who’s in Maine to watch TV LOL. The front porch is amazing for coffee in the morning or grilling on the provided grill in the evenings.

    April2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Very accurately described. Comfortable and quiet. Kathy’s an excellent host, easy to get in touch with. Very clean.

  • Nice and secluded. About half an hour from Acadia park and bar harbor. Very quiet and relaxing! Check in was easy, and the host always replied quickly to questions.

  • This place was a dream. Cozy. Warm. Quiet. Away from the bustle of the island and the perfect place to retreat to after the day's adventures. Would love to come again!

  • Really great cabin on the quiet side of the Island, great value, could not have asked for more especially for the price. Clean and good communication.

  • The house has a very quiet neighbor. Couple of mins walking can led to a beautiful ocean view. In the house, provided appliances had met all our requirements, and they were clean and well maintained.

  • This place has a great location! The view of the harbor out the window is very lovely. We liked being in Southwest Harbor instead of Bar Harbor. The room is clean and spacious. It was a good launching place for a really fun weekend exploring Mt Desert Island. But I would describe it as adequate rather than great. There were a number of little details that would have made our stay smoother. (For instance, Vacasa provided dish soap to wash dishes, but no cloth/sponge/brush. We ended up using paper towels.) If you actually plan on using or needing the internet, you should know that it didn't work for us the whole weekend and apparently frequently does not.

    Emily2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is right on the set of stops for the free bus rides through Acadia. The window looks right out on the harbor, which is great fun. If you are looking to be away from crowds, this is your spot. Sips in Southwest Harbor has great food and coffee!

    Julie2018-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at this studio in Southwest Harbor. Just close enough to Bar Harbor to visit the shops, etc, but quiet and secluded. Close to less commonly used parts of Acadia NP for hiking or watching the sunrise. We loved the dock across the street and enjoyed sitting outside while watching the stars come out.

Hillside Cottage is a charming, newly remodeled home just minutes from downtown and Acadia National Parks hiking trails and lakes. Great for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
Hillside Cottage is a cozy little house tucked away in the quiet town of Southwest Harbor. The home was recently remodeled inside giving the home a clean and updated feeling. Brand new appliances have been added to the kitchen making it a more modern place for you and your family to cook your favorite dishes. The master bedroom offers two large sky lights to help welcome in the new day. Tastefully decorated, this little cottage should make you feel right at home. Take advantage of sitting on the deck with the new deck furniture in the mornings and at night sit out by the fire pit in the back yard to relax after your long day.
  • The only bad thing about this trip was that it had to end. Amanda's home was perfect - beautiful, clean, well-equipped, and so comfortable. Loved the decor, having the laundry so convenient, and the incredibly comfortable bed. It was centrally located and an easy drive to Acadia and other spots on the island (and on the mainland) - but quieter and more peaceful than places in Bar Harbor. I should have stayed longer...next year, I'd love to stay for two weeks. Thank you for such a wonderful visit!

    Catherine2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • A very clean and quiet place to stay. Near Acadia National Park

    Janice2018-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • My family really enjoyed our stay at Amanda's cottage. It was nicely decorated and very neat and tidy. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and utensils when we made our meals. We picked up fresh lobster to cook at the house on a side street in the downtown area from a local fisherman. Nice little backyard with pretty flower gardens to have a fire and smores. Amanda allowed our dog to stay which we really appreciated. It's a nice location near downtown southwest harbor which is a cute little downtown. Some great places to eat like the Common Good restaurant that serves popovers and all proceeds go to help folks who need help in the community. A great little pie shop on the Main Street makes amazing pies known as island bound treats. On Friday's there is a nice little farmers market. Great town to hike, rent bikes and guided kayak tours to learn more about the island. We really enjoyed our stay.

    Maureen2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect location for a home base to access the many diverse attractions on Mt. Dessert Island. Southwest Harbor is a quieter, much less crowded part of the island to retreat back to at the end of busy day of hiking, biking, sightseeing, etc. The house was perfect for two of us adults, was well-appointed with everything we needed, and Amanda was very responsive to any questions we had. A wonderful experience and we would definitely stay here again!

    Kristine2018-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was very cute and spotless, very quiet, and within a quick drive to Southwest Harbor. The kitchen was fully equipped with a gas stove. We had a lovely stay.

  • We stayed for two weeks, and we felt entirely at home. Amanda is an excellent host. Her cottage is clean, comfortable, safe and had everything we needed. When I locked myself out, her boyfriend came to my rescue in just ten minutes. The flower garden is lovely. We would definitely return and recommend this place to friends.

  • Wow and warm. Glen & crew were warm and wonderful in their advice and reminders approaching our idyllic vacation to MDI with their private apartment as our private island harbor headquarters. Glen and his wife were away on an urgent family trip out of town. Their friend Carmine (bartender from WALKERS REST.) was Jonny on the spot and made our arrival easy and uncomplicated at 1 am after bad traffic and unloading and bedding the horse. Glen called us a few times to assure us he was available for directions or questions during the first days. When we woke up the first day we thought perhaps we took a wrong turn and were in Holland or on the Mediterranean. The sun rose out of the sea exposing the beautiful harbor just across the road, islands, fishing boats dingys and sailboats and the sweet smell of the sea. The small village of Southwest Harbor was the right place to base our visit. A vintage small Main St. of old wooden store fronts was less than a walkable mile up the road. From nicknack shops to fashion, bakery, taverns, art, hardware and restaurants galore we could have spent the entire time there. But we had brought a carriage and horse to explore the 50+ miles of Rockefeller built carriage roads and bridges and had to balance our time between driving the cartways, touring the park, eating and shopping. There was not much time for sleep because the night sky was amazing. On our PA farm we can easily see the Milky Way... but there were far more stars in the MDI sky. Don't miss a meal at Johnny D's (prop. Johnny Walker) next to the post office. The entire town as well as Trip Advisor agreed that one of the top 4 restaurants out of 35+ establishments is Walkers which is below the apartment. Don't make my mistake and think that the apartment is a 2nd floor walk up. It is like a PA Dutch bank barn. Walkers Restaurant is on the road level and you drive up behind to walk into your flat with only 2 front steps. We were surprised and did not expect or remember that the flat included refrig, tableware, coffee maker, microwave, Dish TV and a view to die for. The bed was perfect... I did not have to sleep on the floor to avoid a slouchy mattress. There is separate zoned heat for the bedroom and bathroom for marital bliss. Glen called during our stay to make himself available and to remind us he currently had a special I did not remember. Because of our booking for 5 nights we could enjoy a 6th night FREE. I have to mention we eloped to Bar Harbor on the island in 1972. The shoe store where we were married by a judge is gone. Bar Harbor today is one giant 4 story condo complex after another along the waterfront with first floor shops and restaurants. Might as well...

  • We stayed 3 nights in the pat. The apt is located on the "quiet side of the Island". A lot of the activities (Bar Harbor, more hiking, biking) are on the other side (the East Side) of the Island. So about 30 minutes are required to go to Bar Harbor. The apt was nice. Nothing outstanding, pretty expensive and not very clean (especially for the price).

  • Our experience was wonderful - the room was just what we were looking for - clean and comfy and with all the basic necessities included (coffee, small fridge, wine bottle opener :) ). We were greeted with warmth and even provided with local recommendations for ares of Acadia to explore. The location was also wonderful... quiet but so close to everything we wanted to explore. And the restaurant downstairs served delicious food (we ended up eating their twice). Highly recommended.

  • I will start with the good. Glen's wife is very nice and let us in. The inn had a.c. and the wireless worked ok. We didn't use the microwave or coffeemaker but having the fridge was nice for saving a few bucks. The location was near the water and easily accessible to town. Now the bad, this room was not in an acceptable condition for guests. There was a musty odor to the room. The mattress was old and looked (Website hidden by Airbnb) least there was a thick mattress topper. The comforter, sheets, and blankets were digusting...stained, bleached, and old. Our first trip was to Wal-Mart to buy new sheets, pillows, and a blanket. The carpet was also dirty...but the bed was not ok. The place could be ok but there are way better options out there. We definitely left the place in much better condition than we found it since we left the sheets we bought.

  • My wife and I stayed for 8 nights at the Dockside Inn. It is a lovely setting and the accommodations were comfortable and spacious. Glen (Mick), Joyce, and Scott were hospitable and helpful. The biggest surprise was the quality of the on-site restaurant. The food was excellent, generous, and reasonably priced. We had a pleasant stay at The Dockside Inn in this amazingly beautiful area of our country.

  • This location, and the room, are a real gem. It was a cozy, comforting, and inspiring place to be. The hosts were accommodating, but never intrusive. This area of Southwest Harbor is ideally located to enjoy the busy harbor outside the window, to have the peace of being just off the beaten track, to head a short drive into town for shopping, or to the numerous opportunities for hiking, biking, sea kayaking or swimming. Its a slice of heaven. Coffee/tea fixings supplies, small microwave and fridge, very clean and roomy. I can't wait to go back again.
