Gracias :)

My place is close to public transport. You’ll love the cottage because of the outdoors space and the ambiance. The cottage is ideal for couples. The Scottish tourist board rate our cottage as four star standard. You are in the heart of the country but only 40 minutes from Edinburgh and most of the Scottish borders towns. Rolling hills, lots of walking, interesting places to see historical, cultural and modern.
The cottage is warm and comfortable with views of the rolling borders countryside and direct access to the hills around. Recently renovated to a high standard this is a listed 18th century cottage next door to our house which used to an inn with a Robert Burns connection. The cottage has a garden with a decked area and barbeque and its own parking space. The living space has a log burner as well as central heating. The kitchen is fully fitted with Fridge freezer, cooker, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. The bedroom has a Superking sized bed but can be set up as two singles on request. No9 is ideally suited to sightsee in the Scottish Borders but is also very convenient for Edinburgh with very easy access.
The Scottish borders gives access to many large country houses, ruined abbeys and castles. Fishing, golf, walking and mountain biking are all available locally. There is beautiful countryside all around and yet you are only 40 minutes from Edinburgh by train or car. Edinburgh is a very vibrant city full of interest.

Experience a unique sense of history and tradition whilst exploring the surrounding countryside rich in places of scenic and historic interest. So whether you are here for a short visit or are intending a longer stay, Rose Cottage is the perfect location to explore an area of magnificent natural scenery in what is the timeless elegance of the Scottish Borders. The Bus Station is situated adjacent to the Railway Station from which you can catch transport to almost every area within the Borders and as far as Carlisle and Berwick. Horse riders can mount up and ride over many of the green paths, or why not cycle along pleasant by-roads. If you are a walker the freedom of the hills is yours, and why not take advantage of the Southern Upland Way which lies on our doorstep. The tower house is guarded by the life size mounted Border Reiver made by sculptor T.J .Clapperton. Also worth a visit is the beautiful fifteenth century mansion that is Old Gala House in whose grounds Rose Cottage was once a part. Parking - Street parking is outside the property, there are no parking restrictions, avoid busy work hours, but spaces always available between 6am - 8am, then evening 6pm onwards. There's free street parking all around the town but this street does get busy but you'll always find a spot.

Built in 2002 my home is modern yet comfortable and homely. I am offering a private bedroom with large double bed and private bathroom. If required I also have a single small bedroom available in addition which if required at the same time as the double bedroom, would be £25 inc of breakfast. The Cottage is on the outskirts of Lauder which offers a variety of shops, cafes, eateries and pubs.
The Cottage is on the outskirts of Lauder about ten minutes walk to the centre so there is little noise or light pollution. I share my home with a rescued Jack Russell who is very friendly. There are wonderful walks nearby around Thirlestane Castle (my neighbours) and the Southern Upland Way goes through Lauder. The Border towns of Melrose, Kelso and Jedburgh for example offer ruined abbeys, castles and historic sites amongst wonderful countryside.
About a quarter of a mile from Lauder town centre surrounded by farmland so it is situated ideally for a relaxing stay yet with easy access to Border towns.

My house is a traditional 2 bed cottage in the centre of Lauder. Close to the rail link to Edinburgh and on the A68, 26 miles south of Edinburgh. The spacious, comfortable bedroom has a kingsize bed. All eateries and pubs are short walking distance.
I offer my guests a comfortable relaxed place to stay. I'm happy for guests to use the kitchen to cook meals and hang out and watch TV in the sitting room if they want to.
Lauder is a small quiet town in the Scottish Borders. There are good local places to eat and small independent shops to browse in.

The Mill, formerly the sawmill for Borthwick Hall, is a charming property built in the 1800s. The conversion of the building was completed in 2003 and is now a wonderful family home. My husband, Steve, and I moved up to Scotland from London in December 2017 and absolutely love it up here. With lovely people and beautiful open spaces, it’s the perfect place for us to relax and raise our kids. We love having friends and family visit and look forward to offering our space to guests as well.
The rooms we have for guests to stay make up a private suite situated above our garage with an external stairway for private access. There is a double room with a tv, sofa and wardrobe. All bed linen is provided with extra pillows if you need them. The spacious bathroom had a large bath and separate shower along with his and her sinks. There is a sitting room with sofa, table and chairs as well as kitchen facilities including cooker, microwave and fridge. We also offer a continental breakfast of cereals and homemade bread. Our house is supplied by private spring water so feel free to fill our water bottles for your days out. We are happy to accommodate babies and toddlers and we have a travel cot if needed. Please let us know if you have older children and would like to stay as we may be able to arrange a mattress or bed for them. There are some lovely places to walk nearby and we’d be happy to point them out to you.

Muchas gracias Terry y Aimee.

Formerly the sculleries for Thirlestane Castle, this part of the South Wing has been beautifully transformed into a high-end one-bedroom apartment. Accessed from the mezzanine of the castle’s Cobbled Courtyard, guests look out over the castle gardens to the rear with double-height windows throughout. The traditional flagstone floor in the hallway is a reminder of the apartment’s past, as is the historic mangle which has been re-purposed into a beautiful hallstand. The soft greens of the gardens outside have inspired the restoration of the space and link the bedroom with the natural beauty of its surroundings. The stunning sleigh bed and wardrobe were used by the Maitland family in their private rooms. Luxurious, heavy fabric frames the three tall windows as the room is flooded with dappled light through the nearby trees. Guests can enjoy the ultimate luxury in the extremely spacious bathroom and relax in the free-standing roll-top bath. A warm and cosy feel is created in the sitting room with the red-earth toned walls and royal blue accents. As in the bedroom, a large portrait from the castle collection reflects the grandeur of the castle and brings a sense of history to the space. Guests are made to feel part of the Thirlestane family with personal photos in the hallway showing the Maitland family competing in the show-jumping and eventing competitions at several Olympic Games. Completed in early 2019, this newly-refurbished apartment offers a cosy retreat for those wishing to explore the Scottish Borders.
The apartment is just 10-minutes' walk from the pretty town of Lauder. Here you will find a number of shops including convenience stores, a butcher, bakery and fruit and veg shop. There are also several pubs, a cafe/gallery and a restaurant. The Scottish Borders is so popular because of the sheer range of activities packed into such a small and accessible region - historic houses and castles, exciting festivals, arts and crafts, delicious local produce and miles of rolling hills, beautiful valleys and the Berwickshire coastline. For those that love the outdoors there is a variety of different activities available close at hand including horse riding, exhilarating cycling routes, fishing, golf and spectacular walking – the Southern Upland Way crosses the Thirlestane Estate. There is a small community leisure centre in Lauder which has a fully equipped gym that is available on a ‘pay as you go’ basis. The Scottish Borders is also renowned for its variety of crafts and is famous for producing quality textiles such as tweed, cashmere and tartan. Take a visit to a traditional workshop and workers will be more than happy to demonstrate their skills. There are several places throughout the Borders that offer visitor experiences including Lochcarron in Selkirk. The town of Hawick is the home of cashmere and there are several mills to visit here along with the Borders Distillery. Lots of the local attractions have children’s programmes such as Paxton House, Bowhill and Edinburgh Castle and many of the local towns have special places for small people. Watch out for Pot-a-Doodle Do near Berwick, the Scottish Borders Donkey Sanctuary near St Boswells and the opportunity to monkey around swinging between the trees at Go Ape near Pebbles. During the summer, the town’s main event is the Lauder Common Riding Festival where today’s residents commemorate the times when their forbearers patrolled the boundaries of their settlements on horseback. Join in the week-long festival and watch as standard-bearers elected by the townspeople enact ancient ceremonies and experience the exhilaration of seeing hundreds of riders galloping past amid a flurry of banners.

The Little House on the Hill is a bijou part of this gorgeous stone-built house on a farm. It is the right hand wing of the house in the picture. A perfect place for chilling out, being outdoors, accessing Edinburgh, and moseying around Border towns. Cosy & modern, lovely open plan kitchen & lounge. The larger house next door is also available.
Little House on the Hill is available for 2-4 guests on a self catering basis. The cottage forms part of Hillhouse farm in the Scottish Borders which is also home to a few thousand sheep. The Sutherland family have farmed here for over 80 years across 3 generations. It's a fantastic place - sitting high on the hills overlooking Lauderdale it really does have tremendous views. The Little House on the Hill is an old shepherd's house but it's been refurbished recently so now you'll find it to be modern & cosy. It has a lovely open plan kitchen / living room, two good sized bedrooms and a small shower room. The house next door, the House on the Hill, is also available - it has virtually the same facilities as the Little House on the Hill but is much larger with an extra bathroom and separate kitchen and lounge. There are interconnecting doors between the two houses which we unlock if both properties are being rented by one party. The House on the Hill can, of course, also be rented completely separately.
Staying on a working sheep farm in the Lauderdale area is a 'best of all worlds' location: it's the perfect place for chilling out, being outdoors, accessing Edinburgh (including the Festival), and moseying around historic Border towns. There is so much to do, you just have to work out how much you want to pack in!

With its own private access and expansive views of the parkland, those staying in The Maitland can enjoy a relaxed castle stay in 5* surroundings. This luxurious apartment has been lovingly restored in the South Wing in an area of Thirlestane Castle that was once the old laundries. Classic Singer sewing machines reflect the apartment’s past whilst large, dramatic, family portraits in the main reception room offer a sense of grandeur. The master bedroom with its traditional metal bedstead and full height windows has been finished in a gentle, soft blue. The ensuite shower room in shades of charcoal gives the feeling of luxurious glamour. The second bedroom looks out on the Cobbled Courtyard and the dramatic roofline of the main castle. The warm coral accent colour reflects the rose-pink stone of castle. The generous proportions of this apartment are most evident in the main reception room where four full height windows flood the space with light and offer panoramic views of the parkland. A large gilt mirror from the castle collection reflects even more light and is flanked by the dramatic portraits of the 15th Countess of Lauderdale’s Great Grandparents. A spacious dining area and kitchen allow keen cooks to make the most of the local produce found across the Scottish Borders. The apartment is accessed from either the same level via the castle gardens or up a private staircase from the enclosed Cobbled Courtyard that guests are also able to make use of during their stay.
Experience staying in a Scottish Castle in spacious, luxurious surroundings.

This apartment was formerly the private quarters of the 14th Earl and Countess of Lauderdale and most recently the castle nurseries. It has been exquisitely restored into a three-bedroom apartment, perfect for small groups and families. Accessed by one of the castle’s grand sweeping staircases, its position on the second floor means there are fabulous views of the parkland from the large full height windows. A dramatic colour scheme has been used throughout to compliment the statement items of furniture and paintings that have been borrowed from the castle collection. The coral walls of the master bedroom highlight the vintage-style bed hanging while its luxurious ensuite is a calming shade of Wedgewood blue. Original bedheads from when the castle was used as a hospital in the First World War complete the room. The bold colours and intricate Schumacher ‘Chiang Mei Dragon’ fabric in the second bedroom offers a nod to the castle’s links with Asia. The 15th Countess’s father was J. J. Bell-Irving, a very successful Hong Kong banker and merchant, and he brought many items back with him which can be seen throughout the castle. The opulence continues in the ensuite shower room with vintage gold taps. The high ceilings throughout the apartment enable a grand four poster bed to be used in the third bedroom. The large windows frame stunning views across the castle estate. The main reception room is an open-plan space dominated by a large gilt mirror that until recently hung in the State Drawing Room of the castle. The chandelier casts a soft light over the portraits and the bespoke wallpaper panels featuring designs from an historic antique tapestry. Watch the sunset in the evening over the parkland from the large west-facing bay window. With hints of vibrant colour on the walls and historic furnishings, the Earl & Countess give you a stunning castle experience. Completed in January 2019 this is one of the newest apartments available at Thirlestane Castle which can also be taken in conjunction with our other apartments to sleep larger groups.

This one-bedroom apartment in the South Wing offers a luxury escape for guests in a genuinely historic Scottish castle. Once the Butler’s Apartment, the space has been transformed into a well-proportioned suite with sweeping views over the extensive parkland. The baronial style that is evident in the castle’s architecture has been reflected in the bedroom with the extravagant use of the Maitland family’s tartan for the statement bed and other soft furnishings. The 3rd Earl of Lauderdale adopted the blue and green tartan that belonged to his wife Elizabeth Lauder’s family, and the Lauder tartan has been used as the Maitland family tartan ever since. The grandeur continues into the bathroom where a luxurious free-standing roll-top bath takes up the centre of the room. In the open-plan living, dining and kitchen area the natural colouring gives a relaxed but sumptuous feel. Paintings, prints and items of furniture from the castle collection are used throughout. A charming, established apartment where guests can get a feel for what it is like to live in a Scottish castle.
The apartment is just 10-minutes' walk from the pretty town of Lauder. Here you will find a number of shops including convenience stores, a butcher, bakery and fruit and veg shop. There are also several pubs, a cafe/gallery and a restaurant. This charming one-bedroom apartment is set in the heart of the South Wing. It takes its name from the moor behind the castle that is resplendent in purple heather during late summer and early Autumn. Glenburnie was also the name of a horse bred by the Maitland family which went on to become European Champion in three-day eventing and which was ridden by local eventer Ian Stark. A portrait of the horse is reflected back into the sitting room by a large mirror in the hallway. The spacious bedroom has been finished with gentle greens and accents of pink and red creating a calming space. Statement pieces of furniture from the castle collection have been used including the dressing table which was formally the base for a spinet harpsichord. Once the castle’s Housekeeper’s Room, the original Victorian range in the sitting room has been sympathetically restored with soft, modern lighting to add to the relaxing ambience. This range was long forgotten about and uncovered during the renovation. The open-plan space is dominated by large portraits by George and John Scougall from the castle collection featuring two of the castle’s forbears. Finished in early 2019 this apartment is one of the most recently-refurbished in the castle and provides a luxurious, romantic base from which to explore the Scottish Borders.

The House on the Hill is the main part of this beautiful stone-built cottage on a hill farm in the Scottish Borders. This old shepherd's house is modern & cosy, has a superb kitchen, huge lounge & a stunning rural location. The house next door, the Little House on the Hill, is also available. It is the right hand wing of the building and for a larger house party, the interconnecting doors can be opened up to make it one large house.
The House on the Hill is available for up to four people on a self catering basis. The house is part of Hillhouse Farm in the Scottish Borders which is also home to a few thousand sheep. The Sutherland family have farmed here for over 50 years across 3 generations. It's a fantastic place - sitting high on the hills overlooking Lauderdale it really does have tremendous views. The House on the Hill is an old shepherd's house but it's been refurbished recently so now you'll find it to be modern & cosy. It also has a superb farmhouse-style kitchen, huge lounge, large bedrooms and two bathrooms (one of which is en suite). This is a really spacious house so you won't feel like you're living in each other's pockets, but it's also somewhere we hope you will feel immediately at home in. The house next door, the Little House on the Hill, is also available - it has virtually the same facilities as the House on the Hill but all with much cosier proportions! There are interconnecting doors between the two houses which we unlock if both properties are being rented by one party. The Little House on the Hill can, of course, also be rented completely separately.

  • Recomendamos encarecidamente Jo's House on the Hill.
