MMMMM, this is the best bacon in the world! (And Molly is a vegetarian except for Benton's Bacon!) If you go, stock up. You will be glad you did, as will your friends and family. Benton's Country Hams is about a one hour drive from our house. And it is not even that expensive, around $8 per pound, Famous chefs, including David Chang and Vivian Howard use this bacon. I have seen a Benton's Country ham featured in a holiday spread in Martha Stewart's magazine. In Florida as we were passing by a restaurant where we could smell the unmistakable heady hickory scent of Benton's bacon... we looked up the chef online and sure enough, he uses this fabulous bacon as well. The best local restaurants, including the famous Blackberry Farm, use Benton's bacon and will say "Benton's Bacon" in their menus. (Then you know you are at a high quality restaurant!) If you make the drive to Madisonville, the owner Allan Benton might even wait on you. He is a gracious and humble Southern gentleman and will probably ask you where you are from. If you are a hot dog aficionado, buy some of Benton's hot dogs. They come in a large package (they freeze well). I don't even think they are listed on their price list...you will know to ask for them though. We make a Benton's run probably two or three times per year.
