Little has changed since its completion in 1795 and its visitors centre, restaurants, family pub and glorious backdrop of Tall Ships in the harbour Heading make Charlestown a favoured location of film and television producers. The port of Charlestown developed from what was in the late 18th Century the fishing village of West Polmear. There are deposits of china clay in the area and particles of mica quartz in the sea near Charlestown give it a turquoise-blue colour
