It was fed from the Malmsbury - Bendigo water race, but now only gets water from Forest Creek. No longer used as a water supply it is a popular quiet recreational spot in the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park, used for fishing, swimming, boating, walking, birdwatching and picnicking.
