Glasgow is only about 30 minutes away by train and so worth visiting. The city centre has wonderful Victorian architecture, great shops and masses of wonderful cafes and restaurants.
The West End has Glasgow University and a life all of its own. Byres Road is the hub, with wonderful individual shops and cafes. Also worth seeing are the Botanic Gardens at the top of Byres Road with the stunning Kibble Palace glasshouse.
