One of the most famous (among locals) places to have Laksa, which is a local spicy noodle dish served in a fragrant curry soup. It's a small portion, but at less than $3 per portion, go crazy having a few dishes if it pleases your tastebuds.

One of those iconic food centres frequented by locals and tourists alike. Avoid the seafood stalls if you can, as those tend to be a bit of a tourist trap, and go for the dishes such as Fried Carrot Cake, Oyster Omelette, and satay. The best part is, they're opened until pretty late on weekends, so if you're feeling peckish at 11pm, this place will still be open when you get there. Easily accessed by the Downtown Line (change train at Little India)

Drinks & Nightlife

One of the most chill yet diverse places to hang out in the evenings, Robertson quay is a short cab ride away. It's got all sorts of bars, from Japanese Sake bars to Wine and cheese bars, to the typical British style pub. Great for a bar trawl, or if you're not sure what you enjoy.

One of the newest kids on the block, this place has a STUNNING view. Located at the National Gallery, which was recently restored from being our Parliament house to a museum, its the perfect way to cap off a day of sightseeing in the civil district. The cocktails are great too, but the view alone is worth it.

Sightseeing

Undoubtedly one of the weirdest points of interest in the world, the Merlion has become a symbol of Singapore to its tourists. Many locals have used the Merlion as a euphemism for one too many drinks (imagery here), but its definitely a unique icon to this island state. Not forgetting this is one of the best views in Singapore, that money can't buy! (It's free entry, so literally money can't buy)

Parks & Nature

One of the shining jewels of Singapore's nature parks, the Botanic Gardens have recently been awarded the UNESCO world heritage site, with thanks to the many trees that have been well preserved since the 1920s. The Gardens itself is free, however the Orchid Garden within is charges a small admission fee. This is highly recommended, being one of the best Orchid gardens in the world. It's also a great place to get some fresh air in the early morning. Pop in before 8am to join various exercise groups (some for free, even)

Singapore tends to have a reputation for being man made, but being such a small city, we can't help it! One of my favourite man made places is the Gardens by the Bay, absolutely stunning and intriguing domes/conservatories, and the super trees put up a good light show every night! Head there around 4-5pm to explore the domes, then head over to the Super tree grove for a beautiful sight once the sun starts to set.

This is one of the most popular hikes in Singapore, because a portion of it has to be carried out on a suspended bridge high up in the air! Start from the Venus Drive Car Park, and just follow the trail to the Tree Top Walk. The entire trail back and forth takes about 3 hours, and is a great way to kick off a beautiful morning. Note that the tree top walk itself is only about 5 minutes long, and the bridge closes at 5pm. Best accessed by car/taxi.

The Henderson waves are a great combination of man made structure and nature. It's a really cool bridge that links the southern ridges, which is also an amazing hiking trail. Take the train from Farrer Park to Harbourfront, and take exit C. From there, walk about 600m to the Southern Ridges.
