Hill Country, hole in the wall places to visit....
We love the layed back country places the Hill Country has to offer. Places with old barn and outdoor settings, occasional live music... a cool place to have a relaxing drink. Maybe step nextdoor for a shuffle around the old barn dance floor. We call them "Hole in the Wall" places. Small and yet priceless watering holes along the way.....
"Hole in the Wall" places do not always refer to watering holes. We will mention anything here that we find dear to our hearts, places we visit and places we shop. Places along the way that don't get advertised... some places that are just tiny "holes in the wall" or a "spot on the map" type places that get passed over by unaware passerby's. Places that are part of our Texas history and old way of life that you just might not ever experience again. Maybe a general store, small town mercantile, a place to grab a beer and rest along the beaten path. Or, simply get a good meal at affordable prices.... hidden places. Some of our favorites. . .
Luckenbach was made famous by Willie Nelson's song, "Luckenbach, Texas". The buildings are mostly original with the old barn wood look and feel. Some weekends at Luckenbach are hopping with entertainment anywhere from motorcycle rallies, bicycle rallies, wedding events, dances, giant Texas cookoff competitions, etc. You may find the entire tiny town completely still. They have general store, an old barn dance hall on site and a small bar to grab a beer. Many times when the town is quiet you will find a couple of locals jamming in the bar with their guitars and/or harmicas. At Luckenbach you never know what you might find there. It is a beautiful drive and a safe way to get home and off the highways. Albert Ice House offers live music, a tiny dance floor, bar and picnic tables under a massive old Texas Live Oak tree. It's a great place to stop along the way to have a cold drink, visit old friends and meet plenty of new ones. Albert, TX has a dance hall on site. FTD is always the third weekend of each month. They have multiple vendors located in barns and tents. They have everything from what some people consider trash to other peoples treasures. It's a fun place to hang out with the vendors or sit in the covered bar area listening to live music. There are lots of great food vendors.... too many to choose from.

You have to meet Pam at the Blanco Flower Shop! She is so much fun and has many cool and beautiful things to see! Her store is filled with Texas decor, jewelry, hats, clothing, shoes, wreaths, floral arrangements, crosses, handmade quilts, metal art and Mexican pottery from Laredo. Many tourists say it will take several trips to see it all. It's a one stop shop and a place you will always come back to.
