Sightseeing

They don't call Elmore the beauty spot of Vermont for no reason. Drive up Route 12 to the state park and hoof it for about an hour to the top of the firetower where you can enjoy panoramic views along the green mountains from Belvidere to Camels Hump and along the Worcester Range. Afterwards, go for a swim in Lake Elmore. This is an easy to moderate hike depending and I consider it 'low hanging fruit' considering the payoff.

Just a couple minutes from the Village of Morrisville is the Green River Reservoir. No motorized traffic is allowed on this 5,000 acre reservoir, you're more likely to bump into a Loon than another person out on the water. There are campsites along the shoreline if you'd prefer an overnight experience. You can learn more on Vermont State Parks. Rent Stand Up Paddle Boards from Paddle North and explore the park!

A 4-season resort tucked beside a secluded lake. Just 20 minutes from Morrisville, the trip takes you back into rural Vermont, a slightly different scene than what you may find in Stowe. Rolling hills, barns and dirt roads add to the allure. This place is famous for pumping out some of the most talented rowers, XC skiers and biathletes. Once you arrive it becomes apparent why. Didn't bring your classic or skate skis? No problem, they offer rentals at the trail head. Prepare for a great day in the woods!

One of Vermont’s most infamous covered bridges, Built-in 1844 to carry what came to be known as Covered Bridge Road over Gold Brook, “Emily’s Bridge” is a single-lane, 50-foot-long bridge. Its wooden frame is dark and weathered, and it was here, if the legend is to be believed, that a girl with a broken heart took her own life. In the summer, enjoy swimming in the swimming hole beneath the bridge.

Consejos para los viajeros

Qué meter en la maleta

There is no bad weather, only bad clothing

Always bring a fleece, anywhere you go any time of year. Waterproof footwear is a must. Vibram soled shoes are life savers. In the winter, walk like a penguin, everything is slippery.

Trail access is a privilege

The majority of lands in Vermont are privately owned, many of our trail systems rely on private land owners granting access for recreation. Please be courteous to all trail users…you never know who you’ll come across, you may be on their property. Trail access is a privilege.
