According to legend, once upon a time a very strong man lived on the Daugava riverside and he earned his living by carrying people across the river on his back. One night he was approached by a little boy who asked to carry him over the river. Although the weather was stormy, the man picked up the child and began carrying him across the river. With each step, the man found that the child was becaming heavier until by midstream only with the greatest of effort could he made it to shore. The boy turned out to be Christ's son so the man was named Kristaps (Latvian form of Christopher). Now you will find his statue on the right bank of the Daugava.

The buildings of Kalnciema Quarter, located at the crossing of Kalnciema and Melnsila Streets are a part of Riga’s wooden architecture heritage dating back to the 19th century and representing the epoch of the late Classicism in Europe. The resurrection of the Quarter’s wooden buildings began in 2001.
Currently, seven renovated buildings enclosing the yard with a small orchard are open to the public. All the buildings have been renovated, using traditional materials and technologies, with modern conveniences built in and adjustments to answer the needs of the contemporary lifestyle.

The park has a swimming area equipped with changing cabins. The beach has been designed so that both children and adults can swim safely. It is located right across from Zaķusala island, granting a view that will make you forget you are in the centre of the city. There is a shoal in the middle of the river which can be safely reached from the bank and volleyball pitches next to the bathing area.
Playground
The playground has everything children need to have fun - they can jump, slide, climb, or play in a sandbox. They can also make new friends among the many children who visit!
Wakepark
The wakepark is located on the right side of the island, in front of the TV centre. The park has a 230-metre long cable system for wakeboarding. At the moment, the park is equipped with two kickers (trampolines), one 3 metres high, which is perfect for learning air raley and other tricks. It also has a 19-metre long slide for beginners and a 18-metre long slide for more experienced riders.
Next to the park there is a nice cafe that on weekends hosts parties and screens open-air movies.
Equipment rental is available. Life vests, helmets and the advice of an instructor are provided free of charge.

After reaching the Salu bridge / Mūkusalas Street roundabout, turn next to the Neste service station and K-Rauta store; then turn left and you’ve arrived.
