This is a good place to hike before or after a little visit to Todd, NC. It’s just a couple miles away from Todd on Railroad Grade Road. It’s a circuit hike around the island which is surrounded by the New River.

Good circuit hike. A little over 2 miles, split up in 3 segments. There’s the water, creek segment ; pasture segment up to the green Knob; and then mountain descent with a back door view of Grandfather Mountain. Close to Blowing Rock.

Cute mountain towns
Boone is the main mountain town in these High Country mountains. But here’s a list of other towns and villages, too!
Next to the New River, this quaint town is an 8 minute drive from cabin, down Big Hill Road. It used to be a logging town and had access to the railroad. Notice tin sided buildings. Todd Mercantile, Todd General Store, and Rivergirl Fishing Co. are creative little businesses to visit while you are there.
