The moment you step out of the house, you’re standing in the heart of the historic city centre of Amsterdam. In this area you can find most of the city’s famous attractions and sights, such as the Dam Palace, museums, the flower market, 9 Little Streets (9 Straatjes), the red light district, nightlife and still so much more to discover. The city centre is the most historic part of Amsterdam, so you will be surrounded by the famous Amsterdam canals and the typical houses lined along them. The iconic architecture, decorative lights and bridges make the centre the most romantic part of the city.

Fortunately Amsterdam is not only known for its nightlife, but also for it’s extensive and longstanding culture. The Rembrandt house is right around the corner and the Anne Frank house is at a stone’s throw away. Have a talk with a true Amsterdammer in the Jordaan and visit it’s many local boutiques. Amsterdam is one of the most multicultural places in the world and this is also reflected in the many cuisines offered throughout the city, explore a new world through your taste buds and be open to something you have never tried before, you can really find almost anything here.

All the big central attractions are at walking distance. For other places such as Museum District, Vondelpark, Albert Cuijp Market and others can be easily reached with public transport. You can buy your ticket in the Tram, Metro or Bus and pay only buy card. If you feel comfortable cycling it is very nice to rent a bike, it can get very busy in the centre so please stay safe.

The most beautiful way to get around the city is by taking a canal cruise or to rent your personal little boat. You will see the city from the waters of the historic canals: a unique perspective on this beautiful city! This is historically how all goods and products used to be transported here.

Getting around by tram is a great alternative; public transport while still taking in the sights :) There are many connecting tramlines throughout the city and trams run so frequently that you won’t have to worry about missing your connection until close to midnight. Bring cash to buy tickets in any tram for 2,5hrs or buy a card and charge it with money to use any type of public transportation at a cheaper rate. Trams do not ride during the night but there are some night busses that will still bring you where you need to be.
