South Lake Tahoe, located at the south end of Lake Tahoe and just across an invisible border from the casino’s in State Line, NV, is the primary city in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The cities location is simply beautiful, with the vast blue waters of Lake Tahoe marching off to the north, while numerous tall, snow-covered peaks loom over the city to the south and west.
South Lake Tahoe, due to the wide varieties of outdoor activities nearby and the simple beauty of Lake Tahoe, draws in tourists and visitors year-round. As such, the downtown area of South Lake Tahoe can be a busy place during much of the year. However, it is during the summer – especially on weekends – when the city overflows with people and vehicles. Those searching for areas “less traveled” will want to avoid South Lake Tahoe on summer weekends!

We recommend a car or getting a rental car.
There aren't many sidewalks leading to the store, casinos, ski resort, and main shopping areas so we recommend a car/rental. The beach, near by trails, and some restaurants are within walking distance. We also suggest chains and 4x4 during the winter season. There aren't public buses to/from the area.

Enjoy the great outdoors and mini golf.
There are so many outdoor activities for everyone. We recommend taking a walk at the meadow located on Khale and HWY 50 (Rabe Meadows Trail), going to the beach with a picnic, ski/snowboard lessons at Heavenly Ski Resort, an afternoon of mini golf at Magic Carpet, a bike rentals, or water activity rentals.
