Do as the locals and get yourself a bragðarefur, an ice cream desert with up to three toppings included (like a Dairy Queen Blizzard). Keep in mind that the smallest size is already quite big.

Reykjavik´s finest gourmet store, doesn´t look like one but when inside you can find all you need. It´s next to the Vesturbæjarlaug swimming pool so a nice walk over there might be something. If you are looking for something special like game or some odd stuff go there. Sometimes it is good to call ahead f.ex. if you are buying reindeer.

The path along the coast at Ægissíða is a popular outdoor area for locals. Walking east takes you to Nauthólsvík beach (30 min walk). In the neighbourhood along the coast there are many playgrounds.

Consejos para los viajeros

Desplazamientos

Get the Klappið app for getting around with public transport

Bus drivers take cash but don't give change so using the app is easier. There is also a route planner in the app. Many routes pass by close to the apartment, #12 and #15 on Suðurgata and #1 #3 and #6 by the University/National Museum. The #55 to Keflavik airport also stops there but check beforehand if the schedule fits your plans.
Costumbres y cultura

Locals are a bit introverted

Apart from in the service industry, people in Iceland usually won't be the ones to start a conversation but most are up for a chat or to help out if you need some assistance.
Modos de ahorrar

Iceland is pretty expensive

Children get free or reduced admission to busses, many museums and activities. Get the Reykjavik City Card Stock upon cheaper alcohol in the duty-free store. Shop at Bónus, Krónan or Nettó. We usually do our shopping at Krónan. Don't buy bottled water. Eat out at lunchtime when the dish du jour is reasonably priced. This applies to fancy restaurants and not cafes. Buy woolen sweaters second hand at the thrift shop.
