Food Scene

This is my go-to spot. Best happy hour in town! HH is 4:30pm - 6:30pm M-F and gives 50% all appetizers (my fav is the cheese plate) & glasses of house wine, and I think $1 off beer. Very cool atmosphere. Clean and urban-feeling. They also have a great Sunday brunch. It's about a half-mile away so I always just walk, otherwise be prepared to find and pay for a parking spot :P

*Note: They do not deliver - for pizza delivery please see pizzariviera.com* This pizza dough is lovingly fermented for 3 days before being wood-fired into a delicious gourmet pizza! In fact all of their menu selections are way above standard. Fresh, real food. They also have LOTS of cool beers on tap. The environment is super-clean; has a "metro" feel to it; and is so awesome that this has become one of my regular go-to places. It is also close enough to walk:)

Hands-down this Strip District restaurant is one of my favorite places to go enjoy a glass of wine and delicious food. The concept is unique in Pittsburgh: Fledgeling chefs have a 2-year residency to learn the ins & outs of running a restaurant. Lots of food choices and a very retro-trendy (think: Echo & the Bunnymen) type atmosphere. Sometimes I will come here for lunch or a mid-bike ride meal.

This place just opened and though I have not been there yet, it is only three blocks from my place and it LOOKS AWESOME! I can't wait to try it out. There is a restaurant and they also specialize in WINE AND CHEESE. Yummy!

This is also an historic bar/live jazz venue/restaurant in my neighborhood. The food is VERY GOOD, in fact may gourmet by some standards. The bar itself is beautiful, ornate, cozy, and a great selection of beer. There is live jazz almost every day of the week for a nominal cover charge. They also have many eclectic events, think fundraising variety shows featuring bellydancers, comedians, and drag queens.

Oh my gosh I have eaten so, so many fish tacos here. Not only is the food very good, but the atmosphere here is so cool. It is an artistic environment. Mad Mex is the bomb! They have opened a few other branches, but my favorite will always be this one in Shadyside. They are all unique and amazing though.

If you want fresh seafood, there are a few options in the Strip District. AVOID ROLAND'S. Instead, opt for either Penn Avenue Fish Co, or Luke Wholey's Wild Alaskan Grille. Smaller and way cooler... and oh their food is prepared and served with heart and style.

This is the best restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh. There are three floors of amazing food and beer in a pretty sweet atmosphere, very "metro." The first floor specializes in meatballs; second floor is pizza; third floor is their seasonal rooftop beer garden. LOVE.

This is the best place to get food/beer in the South Side. Many area cycling clubs base their rides out of this restaurant and cycling is the main theme inside. Typical bar food however it is top-of-the-line for bar food. LOVE.

I am so lucky this place is just a few blocks from my condo! It is amazing: dark, cozy, cool, and tucked right into a residential street. Food is Irish fare, menu is pretty good. Ambience is out of this world.

The food here is beautiful, fresh, and amazing. BYOB. Pricey but worth every penny. Looks like a dump from the outside but inside you will be charmed to no end. GREAT DATE NIGHT venue!

Drinks & Nightlife

This is an historic bar, I do believe it is The Oldest Bar in Pittsburgh. VERY GOOD beer selection, and also lots of nice, FREE live music! The owner is Zamir, he is an awesome businessman and is usually there cooking food (you must try the falafel) and serving patrons with TLC. Love this place. In walking distance.

Essentials

This is just a few blocks away so no need to drive! This is a small locally-owned market with a deli. It is small, but immaculately kept. You will find more than the essentials you came for. This place is WAY better than the gross Giant Eagle supermarket in the area -- stay away from that Giant Eagle is my advise. Stick with this cool little market :)
