South Bank Parklands with it's Restuarants, Beach and Water Features is a great place for the family and you get the benefit of beach and swim facilitiies right in the centre of town. There aren't too many shady spots so get there early to nab a good spot where you can spend the day. Don't leave your picnic around as the Ibis will soon be your best friend. http://www.visitbrisbane.com.au/South-Bank?utm_source=redirects&utm_medium=www.visitsouthbank.com.au&utm_campaign=301_Redirects

New Farm Park is a great trip over on the ferry. Pack a picnic and a blanket and find some shade under the trees whilst lapping up the large open spaces. Grab a frisby and spend time with family or friends having some down time.

Ahhh who can resist cuddling a Koala? Good to plan to spend half a day at least here as there is a bit to get around. If you don't have a car then not to worry as buses and ferries go out fairly regularly.

Mt. Coot-tha lookout is a favourite destination for locals and visitors. We often just go up for a coffee and to take in the views. Ok well also to have chips and gravy. A ‘must see’ for all visitors to Brisbane, Mt Coot-tha’s Brisbane Lookout offers spectacular panoramic views over the CBD all the way to Moreton Bay. Walking tracks are abundant through the National Park and the Lookout itself showcases a historical timeline of this iconic destination. A bustling café and award winning restaurant ensure the precinct caters to all visitors.

Brisbane’s planetarium is located in the Botanic Gardens. You can take a guided tour of the exhibits and see an entertaining show in the Cosmic Skydome where images of the night sky are projected on the inner dome. The planetarium presents eight different shows plus additional shows specifically for children. In the observatory there is a Zeiss telescope, Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and a Meade. There are astronomical instruments, a replica of astronaut Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit and models of spacecraft. A mini-theatre can also be accessed for free.

Drinks & Nightlife

A bar on the river where I'd say the average age is around 30-40. There is a small dance floor which gets busier as the night goes on. Outside balcony area upstairs where you can smoke. Live music on Wednesday nights and happy hour on Fridays. $5.50 Cosmo's and Mojitos are decent. You can also get happy hour bubbles and beer. Happy hour runs til 6pm Friday downstairs and 7pm upstairs in the Shadow Lounge. Sunday afternoon bbq is pretty good value, you can get a meal and a drink for around $15 but it might be best to book in advance.
