A great ski resort. Just an hour or so from your stay here in Mountain Ranch. Hit the slopes and then retreat back out of the snow and warm up on your own private mountain for the evening.

Most family-friendly, uncrowded large ski resort in the Sierras. Bear Valley offers a total of ten lifts and 75+ trails across 1680 ski-able acres and a 1900′ vertical drop. 25% of trails are beginner difficulty, 40% are intermediate and 35% are advanced or higher. We love the kid's ski school. …

“Spicer, Utica, and Union Reservoirs All three reservoirs are stocked with rainbow trout and have grown to be among the area's most popular fishing locations. A paved launch ramp and ample parking lot make Spicer the favorite for anglers with larger boats, but both Utica and Union have unimproved dirt ramps that can facilitate launching lighter boats. There is a 5 - 10 MPH speed limit on all the lakes. The upper part of Spicer is closed to motorized boats. Spicer, Utica, and Union Reservoirs Spicer Reservoir has Eagle Lake trout and brook trout along with a Spicer Reservoir strain of Kamloops-cutbows. Hobart Creek, which feeds into Spicer, is closed to fishing until July 1 in order to protect spawning trout.”

“A great way to spend the day. During the summer it's a great place to swim or fish. Fall and Spring offer excellent and beautiful hiking trails around the lake.”

“Take this beautiful scenic drive during the fall to experience all the changing colors before winter and the bypass is closed. Lake Arnold is the western side of Calaveras, but if your heart is up for exploring and a local day trip, this is a great place to visit in the fall. ”
