For people looking for peace and quiet and interested in meditation, I recommend Ojai, an hour or so north of the city by car. At a place called Meditation Mount, you’ll get the best view of the sunset. It’s an amazing way to end a day. It’s hard to imagine a better place to meditate. Check out the Krishnamurti Retreat Center, too. You can either do your own retreat, or you can be part of a retreat.

Relax, meditate, walk around. Enjoy the magical views of Ojai. There’s a little bookstore with spiritual books.
The most beautiful sunset view. Check for hours and availability. May be closed.
Well obviously it is part of nature but you might feel something very special about this place.

“When I first came to Ojai I really wanted to go to the Deer Lodge. It’s an old 1930s roadhouse. Inside is dark with overstuffed arm chairs, very lodge like. Weekends, there are tons of bikers there, not the gang type, more the middle aged execs from LA riding their Harleys. If you stick to appetisers or burgers you should be ok, otherwise the food is a disaster. However, it is an Ojai legend, should visit.”

“Fun hippy dippy Ojai vegetarian restaurant. Sit outside. Great little produce market + home goods. ”

“Italian, charming, decadent, with gluten free and even grain free options (spaghetti squash!). ”

“You must have a reservation at a restaurant to get on the property (because of COVID). Olivella and The Oak both have the best food in town. This is a historic resort that has been around since the 1920’s! Definitely a must if you want a fancier dinner. The property is gorgeous and occasionally you will find your host (Matt) bartending at their signature bar, the Wallace Neff Bar and Lounge. ”

“Our favorite for everything you need that is organic and good quality. It’s pricier because it’s small town distribution so enjoy this highly intentional and heavily Ojai-culture-curated shop or FYI there’s a Whole Foods in Oxnard too.”
