A cliché of Paris, where dozens of restaurants lay at the feet of Notre-Dame in small and lively streets : Rue de la Harpe, Rue Saint-Séverin, Rue de la Huchette… This place is quite fun to look at, but beware: despite the typical French food served here, it is only for tourists and absolutely no Parisians ever eat here. Why that? There must be for sure a few good restaurants in here, but the vast majority of them are barely average. If your city guide book gives you some good addresses, don’t hesitate! But otherwise, go your way, except if you want to eat some Greek sandwiches, called Pita or Gyros.

Rue Mouffetard, located behind the Pantheon, is less than a 10-minute walk. There is a fresh fruit and veg shop, award-winning boulangerie, fishmonger, butcher, cheese shop, cafes and restaurants. You can also relax and have a coffee, ice-cream or a delicious meal on la Place de la Contrescarpe just up the road behind the Pantheon. Farmers market: Place Maubert-Mutualite every Tues, Thurs, Sat, 7 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. My favorite local restaurants, all reasonably priced and with good Parisian atmosphere. Addresses can be found on Google: --Au Pere Louis--fare from the French South-West--around the corner up rue de Vaugirard --Le Polidor--typical brasserie menu, great food, communal tables, lively--around the corner down la rue Monsieur le Prince --La Brasserie du Pont Louis-Philippe--good French fare--across the river from Notre Dame Cathedral --La Fontaine de Mars--in the 7th arrondissement--red/white checkered tablecloths, bustling and lively, delicious food --L'Ete en Pente Douce--Montmartre area, bistro food, lovely and cozy in winter, great little terrace with a wonderful view in the summer Boulangeries: --L'Epi du Prince: 44 rue Monsieur le Prince, around the corner from rue de Vaugirard --La Maison d'Isabelle--Place Maubert Mutualite --Eric Kayser: 10 rue de l'Ancienne Comedie, one street down from Odeon metro stop just a few minutes' walk away Monoprix is a food and general store 2 blocks down Boulevard Saint Michel. Food section is in the basement, pharmacy/make-up/perfume main floor, clothing and home wares up the escalator on the 2nd floor

Make sure you go to one of the countless bookstores of this student area, or at least to the famous Shakespeare and Company. You should also walk around the Jardin du Luxembourg (Park) and, very close to it, see the University La Sorbonne and visit the huge Panthéon, a former church where illustrious people such as Marie Curie, Voltaire, Rousseau are buried. Behind The Pantheon, you can have lunch on Rue Mouffetard, a narrow lively street full of small restaurants, bars and caterers.
