Agios Dionisios Church, dominant at the port, is dedicated to the patron Saint of Zakynthos and it is a landmark not only for the town but for the whole island. The original church was destroyed in 1893 after a big earthquake that hit the island and was rebuilt as we see it today in August 1948 thanks to the Special Fundraising Committee created in 1900 to complete the restoration. In the building of the monastery strofadon and the church of St. Dionysios in Zakynthos town has been established since 1979 the church museum which contains relics of this monastery. The museum was founded after desire of then coached Daniel Giants and the initiative of Metropolitan Panteleimon of Zakynthos.
