The Altare della Patria is part of the architectural complex of the Vittoriano, built in perfect neoclassical style to celebrate the greatness and majesty of Rome, elected to the role of legitimate capital of Italy, representing the unity of the country and freedom of his people. When you visit you should take the elevators that take you to the Terrazze del Vittoriano, from there you can look at Rome from the above at 360 degrees.

The Vittoriano aka The Altar of the Fatherland built by the first king of Italy Victor Emmanuel II for the 1870 unification of Italy as one nation under one king, one flag over one population - which was the first time in the history of Italy her population was the be referred to as one singular people with one unifying flag and one singular entity of rulership; the monarchy. The Italian monarchy did not last very long and after Mussolini's execution in 1942 the italian people were to vote if they wanted the nation to be a republic or monarchy - and the republic won. It was also the first time Italian women got the right to vote.
